[Q] Gameloft: Transfer Games to a New Phone - Android Apps and Games

Hello XDA,
I know Gameloft's polices suck just as much as their games are generally awesome.
What I am wondering though is if I buy games now for my Vibrant, if there is ever a way to transfer those titles by any means possible to another phone later on in the future?
I have titanium backups of the games and the SD data copied and the original APK's downloaded from the gameloft store.
Can I restore those titanium backup's on future phones?
Could I install the APK's on future phones in Airplane Mode?
Has anyone gotten this to work at all?
Thanks!

I've read that you can call them and explain your situation and they'll switch the license(s) over without much hassle.
Otherwise, you might be able to get things to work now, but if you ever wanted any of the updates you'd be SOL.

I haven't had a problem with restoring Titanium backups.
When I returned my Vibrant for a replacement I called and they transfered the games to my new phone. I don't know if they would transfer to a different model.

That is all I was really wondering. Is if Titanium backup or installing the APK's in airplane mode would work on another kind of device.
I bought 4 gameloft games, but lets say if the Playstation Phone comes out and it doesn't fail horribly, then, naturally, I would want to be able to transfer them to that somehow.
I just cant justify having to buy the same games again just for a new phone, especially since my old phone would go to someone who never uses games anyway.

I think we can use app what we bought in every phone in case that phone using same email from our another phone

Just like wicak21 said. As long as you use the same Google email and the new/old phone support the game(s). You good to go.

Wow, AT&T blocks non market apps?

That is so pathetic. Just another reason to hate that company.
Anyway...my friend just got an inspire and is new to android. I'm just helping with the phone (I have a verizon android phone) and realized that AT&T finds someway to screw with consumers again. So, is there a way to get around this and install non market apps?

You can use sideload wonder machine http://forum.androidcentral.com/android-sideload-wonder-machine/
Or root the phone and load a custom ROM that has non market apps enabled
the sideload wonder machine method is sipmple the only drawback is that the apps wont receive updates like they would from the market, if I'm not mistaken.
Also if I remember correctly if the app is to big for side load wonder machine, you can use adb push. There are always work arounds.

That's why it's such a sweet feeling when you uninstall their application through TiBu........
You can also consider rooting the device. I did mine with no issues at all. It's VERY easy, just time consuming. From start to finish, took me about 35 minutes. I already had EVERYTHING I needed to do this though, including the ROM I wanted.

I am interested to know what apps are good that aren't on the marketplace. I would like to find some other cool stuff I can put on this phone. I put swype on and that was fun to side load. Would like to do some other stuff. Inform me please.

You want good go to Amazon App store, in the past few days I got a full version of Shazam and then SoundHound. Both have full unlimited use with no expiration, also if you change rom's you can redownload them from your account for as long as you have the account. They give away a full paid app everyday on there.

Already installed games

The phone comes with pre-installed games, but as far ad I have heard, they require extra downloads to be able to play these? Does that extra content get downloaded to the sdcard?
If so, could anybody upload the extra download files and link them up here as I don't have wifi and wont be able to download them. Its not really copyright, since its a free download anyway.
Please correct me if I am wrong though
Thanks
The SD card comes with all the data preinstalled on them. And yes it is wares, just because we get these games free, uploading the data on the internet allows people with other devices access to the data.

The preinstalled games on mine already had the sd content, only the extra freebies needed to be downloaded.

How long (ish) does each of the extra ones take to download?

Your mum thinks a router gives you cancer? Seriously? Does a router not use radio waves? You would have to live in a led box to escape radio waves this day and age
If you have a wired connection on your PC, you could try reverse tethering your device, this will allow you to share your PC's wired connection with your device via usb.

Yeah I know, I've tried so much to tell her that, but she sees 1 thing on the internet and fully believes it -.-
And I tried reverse tethering but could only find a solution for windows xp, not windows 7.
Has anybody managed to do it on windows 7?

I dont actually need someones games or updates, but I had a similar thread in xplay q&a I posted about these games and location of them within phone-*http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369071I have 2 Xplays & I was constantly flashing roms & different FW, so I had to re-download the extra updates upon every flash. Im just trying to save bandwidth & time and share with myself. Having to download the updates for both phones over and over sucks. Titanium backup didnt work to backup & restore one phones updates to the other phone.

[Q] aps from 1 phone to another?

Might be more of a google market question, but thought I would start here.
I have 1 MT4GS with 90 or so apps, getting a second MT4GS. Most apps are market, but some from other spots. Is there a way to massively update/download the apps I have on current phone to new phone. In the past, I have just downloaded them one at a time from market.
Thanks in advance...
Possibly
Just an idea, you could make a backup of your current mt4gs and then restore it on the new one? Ive never tried it but I dont see why it wouldnt work
Your google account should keep record of your downloaded apps and redownload on the next device you sign in on... Usually...

I know with previous phones this didn't work. I would connect to my same account with the new phone, but it wouldn't show that I had apps loaded. Example, the eBay app would not show installed, I would have to load like it was a new app install. It would be great if that would do that, or it would show 90 updates to be applied. But I haven't done this in a while, maybe newand improved market will allow. I guess I will find out when I get receive the 2nd phone.
Thanks..
Well if your rooted and your next phone is rooted then you can use titanium backup to backup all your apps. If you CWM installed on both then you can make a nandroid backup and either restore it on the new one or use appextractor to restore the apps. But if your not then your best bet is let Google restore the apps that it does and manually resinstall the ones that it doesn't.
all of your payed for apps will certainly appear in the market under my apps and you can just go thru clicking on them one after another after another. the ones that were free though, i dont know any quick/easy way. i'm sure theres an app that will track all your downloaded apps regardless of if they were free or not.
The market website actually keeps a log of every app you downloaded. You can then send them right to your phone from there.

This is what I'm seeing, it show my paid for apps, but not the freebees. FYI - first phone is not rooted, second one is..
I also logged into google and google market on the pc hoping to see 'my apps', but no luck there..
So looks like a download at a time..
Thanks all for your inputs...

Make your phone not a phone?

So i had a dream that inspired this, and also some future thinking
What can you do to the skyrocket to essentially not make it a phone, besides the obvious. Say i buy a new phone and never get rid of the skyrocket(i wouldnt dare leave the skyrocket ) What could you put on it to say JUST make it an media player? No other apps, no home screen. You just turn it on and it will only play music to a customized UI like a microsoft zune(i had when it first came out). Or maybe you just wanted a camera. etc.. Yes, you can delete files that you dont need put it in airplane mode bla blah blah. Thats not what i am looking for.
I don't know if anyone would see use for it besides me, but i wanted to see. I know this could be possible and maybe you can call me crazy.

There's actually no need to give it up as a phone, even if you remove the SIM card. I have two main devices that I alternate between, my Skyrocket and my HTC Vivid. I have GrooveIP installed on both. This app allows you to use a device to make calls over wifi or your cell data network so you do not need a SIM inserted to make calls as long as you have wifi available. This way I can simply put the SIM in whichever device I decide to carry on any given day, and leave the other behind at home to send and receive calls over wifi when I am there. And this way both devices are fully functional with all of their capabilities at all times.
There's no need to cripple either device when you have this option (GrooveIP) available for only a few bucks from the Play Store. Actually my use of GrooveIP goes way deeper than that, as you can easily see by the list of devices in my sig.
With this one app, and possibly one more (TextPlus), you can keep as many phones fully functional that you may so desire.

I realize i can still make use of the functions wifi and other apps to use when i dont have a plan for the skyrocket. That is not what im asking. Im talking about stripping the phone of all phone capabilities. Im saying strictly make it a Media player not like the galaxy players because they have apps i dont want apps.....just a media player. Or one function.
I guess this is a useless question im asking, what do they say dream big or go home?

If you can figure out a way to register a media player as the default launcher, that would probably be enough, no?
The phone has an OS so do music players. So finding a way to install an OS from a music player on it shouldn't be impossible. It's like stripping a windows machine and then installing linux no? So getting some OS off of an MP3 player and looking at what it needs as far as file structure would be a good place to start. I have two phones and since I've gotten the Rocket my SGS4G has basically become my MP3 player. I get about 12 hours out of it with airplane mode just playing tunes. If I could replace the OS with something dedicated to music and get more time I would make that trade off. Especially if you could still flash back to an Android OS.

Okay so are we talking about porting a OS/ROM from a music player? I wonder who the best Dev to talk to about this is? Im no expert in this subject or else i would have done something by now . If we got more people interested im sure a dev would support it right?
There's actually a ROM project out there for almost this exact concept! I read the OP once here on xda. Let me search for it and see if I can find it. And the idea was exactly this: to take an old phone and flash this ROM to basically turn it into a Zune, so that its main purpose became an mp3 player. Let me look for it...

I just got Nabi2 for my grandson and am testing it out before I wrap it and give it to him, lol. I found this info. Guess we'll have to wait for a little bit.
Post-Launch Nabi 2 Tablet FAQs
Q: Where is Google Play? How do I install it?
A. Google's Support Site: The Android operating system is open source, which means that any device manufacturer is free to use Android on its devices. However, Google Play is an application that is only made available to devices that pass Google’s compatibility requirements. In addition, manufacturers must obtain a license from Google in order to install the Google Play Store app on their devices.
If you don’t have the Google Play Store app, and your device is not listed here, that means your device is not supported for use with Google Play at this time.
There is currently no Google Play Store apk that can be sideloaded successfully onto the nabi 2 Tablet without experiencing Forced Closure when used. Fan-a-Tech Eric is working hard on a solution that will allow users to do this. When available it will be posted here on the blog.

My 2 year old loves her Nabi2, also had a Nabi1 before she was 2. Suprised on how fast they learn to navigate the screens.
She is pretty advanced for her age, but they are setup pretty easy, so I am sure your kid would be fine if they are at least an average kid. Some kids that are slower learners may have some issues at 2.
Partial solution here...

I have an iPad 3 and my daughter likes playing with that. Of course, I'm hesitant to let her really get into it considering A: It's $500, B: It's MY tablet, meaning I have my own apps and stuff that I don't want her messing with, and C: Because she just LOVES touching that home key, it's hard to keep her in 1 app.
Still, the tablet does look intriguing. I think that tablet computers can be good learning tools. Hell my old kindergarten has a whole slew of iPads that they let the students use, although they have more plastic surrounding them than Joan Rivers' face so that they don't break when dropped or beaten up. And quite frankly, given how begrudgingly I picked up the iPad, the last thing I need is to bring yet ANOTHER one of them in the house. 2 iPads are enough (my wife has my old 2 and I have the new generation model.) I like to think we balance it out with 2 Samsung Android phones.
I actually just put two of these on layaway at Walmart this Saturday. One for my 8yo stepson who's been hounding me for a tablet for about a month, and the other for my 2yo. My little guy steals my Nexus 7 all the time to play Sonic CD and even posts pictures of himself on my google+ account. You'd be amazed at how fast a child can pick up the UI on an android device, it's so intuitive. I think any child lucky enough to have parents willing to blow $200 on a "toy" for a preschooler will have a field day with the Nabi. Now I'm just hoping that we have the play store fully functional before Christmas. I've purchased almost every high end game from gta3 thru horn, and was and am planning on linking my google acct, and installing them onto the boys tablets after they open them. I really wish I could get my hands on one now so I could pull a log-cat and see what's going on when you try to install an app.

You can install an app just fine, but from what I have been reading the problem is the play store and google services framework do not have root access. You can only install them on the data partition and not the system partition. We need to be able to root the Nabi to be able to get the Play Store to work. I am assuming no parent is willing to accidentally brick their child's tablet trying to do this. Does anyone even know what drivers we would use for ADB?

Been awhile since I messed with mine(Well hers), but I think the drivers I installed for rooting my Nexus7 also saw the Nabi2 as an ADB device. Also had a few ideas but my 2-1/2 year old would FREAK if I bricked her Nabi2. I still have a Nabi1(Already rooted) being I got the VIP Gold and was sent an email that I can keep my Nabi1 even with them sending me the Nabi2, too bad Nabi1 is not closer and I would have something to "TEST" with.
So I found a driver that I could use to for ADB and I used the universal root from Bin4ry but it was a no go. Has anyone else tried anything different to try to root their Nabi 2? Would be nice to know what has not worked so far.
Something a little off subject does anyone know how to change the default keyboard. Going in and out of Daddy mode switches the keyboard back to the Android keyboard after switching it to Swiftkey.
rooted and market fully working.

No such luck
Been trying the script all afternoon with a brand new Nabi 2.
Script runs, but no SU/root access.
I've done it after wipes
I've done it after entering Mom mode
I'm running the latest Nabi Update.
I also noticed after running the script that several of the apps are wiped:
Skype, Their browser, iheartradio all disappear. They're reinstalled after a complete reset.
