Box is stamped UPDATED and CERTIFIED - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Today, I just received what is supposed to be a "New" Samsung Galaxy SIII. However, the box looks a bit worn, it has the word UPDATED on it in the lower right corner and the top of the box says CERTIFIED. Also, on the phone itself, in the lower right hand corner, it has a label or sticker that says UPDATED. Can someone tell me what this is all about. Did I pay Verizon for a new phone but receive a Certified Pre-Owned phone.
Thanks for your help

You don't get new replacement phones from Verizon, unless you're still in your 14 days, and go to a Verizon store.

No, you misunderstood. This is my first purchase of the Galaxy SIII. It is not a replacement. I am upgrading my old phone to the Galaxy. But, it has these labels on it. Could I have received a previously owned phone and not a new upgraded phone?

Certainly possible.

No you received a new phone with the updated radio. Baseband LG1. The phone original baseband is LF2

Your phone is "updated" with the POS software update that takes away the ability to search local apps, contacts, and files.
As for certified that should be expected because they never warranty exchange old phones for new ones.
If you did get a certified pre owned it would have come wrapped in plastic, with no battery, and a sticker over the screen that said it was pre owned.
I can at least confirm that is how I got three different phones, of two different model types from verizon in the past year.

This is a completely accurate statement, I've been through my share of Verizon Thunderbolts and can attest that you got a new phone with the updated software/radio. I got the same one last week.

I just spoke with Verizon technical support about this and they said "it was just an update to add a search bar on the home screen". Does that sound right? I don't understand all of this tech stuff, but I sure don't want to lose or even notice a loss of any kind on this new phone. My brother got his Galaxy two weeks ago and it didn't have all the UPDATED labels on it. Your comment, "takes away the ability to search local apps, contacts, and files" is concerning to me. Would you be able to explain that a little more? Thanks!

It has to do with an apple lawsuit saying that a patent if theirs was violated having search be able to search phone contents like apps contacts and whatnot

There is not much to say.
Because apple has a small penis, they are choosing to sue the heck out of Samsung and several others.
One such patent, which has not actually had any legal action yet which apple holds, is the ability to search local applications, contacts, data.
That is, lets say you have the app "mapmyrun" on your phone.
You also have "maps" and a contact for someone called "mary"
By typing "ma" only you will see results for all three until you narrow it down.
But since apple is suing the world now, samsung pushed an update a few weeks ago that disabled the ability to do what I just described above.
When you start to get say, 100s of contacts, dozens of apps, this begins to be a very useful feature to you...
Its annoying, and it really makes me reject apple which is sad because I used to love their products and nearly follow the cult of mac.
Here is an article on it:

Call LG about your G2x

If you are tired of doing exchanges and still want to keep the phone, call LG. I just talked to them. Voiced my concerns and they told me they haven't heard a single thing about this issue. I'm a little surprised that they have no record on it. They did offer to fix the phone and it would take 5-7 days. I'm considering it..

I just got off the phone with two LG customer service representatives, and neither one of them said they knew about it. In fact, the last one I talked to blamed it on the user, stating that it was solely based on "device abuse". She then went on to rant about how underage kids shouldn't be given smartphones.. I actually at one point muted my phone, went to grab a beer and when I came back she was still ranting.. Which I then swiftly hung up on her.
Its obvious with my experience from LG that they don't care too much. Good luck to whoever else calls lol.

You had a MUCH different experience with LG then I have had in the past, and I've bought multiple devices from them. Only my TV went out within the 1 year warranty, and they promptly came and fixed it back to new.

yeah right
after 1000 of you call than ill call and i bet you the phone they sy oh really we havent had complaints of that. its no differnece than verizons bullcrud line of we love you as a customer. i bet thats taped to their monitor. i told them if they loved me as a customer than they would lower their prices and actaully come out with the latest phones at same time as everyone else not 3-4 months after.
everytime i have called verizon its always we love you as a customer. just as it will always be really we never heard of that problem.
of those that called today someone had to call first. did anyone get a yeah we were notified of that today and trying to figure out whay that is. or did you all get we never heard of it.
Call and the guy didn't seem to thrilled. Anyway, he noted it and sent it out.
I couldn't post the link to LG's customer service site, due to insufficient amount of posts, but you can google LG USA and find it there. They have the same 800 number listed as well as email and live chat options.
I just sent them an email and plan on iniating a live chat with them tomorrow and archiving the chat session to document that the screen bleed problem was addressed to them and to document any response they may have.
I suppose if we have enough people saving copies of the chat session then they can't claim that nobody has brought this issue to them.
Man, LG USA Mobile's website doesn't even list the G2x on there.
You see the G2x for a brief moment as the page is loading, but once it's finished loading then the G2x disappears. I guess they don't want to market the phone on their official website.
I've attached a picture for the screenshots.

LG is sending you an Advanced Replacement? or the LG rep just sent out your complaint and "that's it"...?
Well, I just returned my G2x for a full refund. They tried to make me pay a $10 dollar restocking fee, but I told them "no." Anyways, I'll pick it up again in a few months, once all the bad batches are out of circulation.
Got a sweet deal on a used Nexus One. Looks brand new and hasn't even been rooted. I asked the guy if he had rooted it and he thought I was asking about plants or something, heh.
I didn't have time to look at the O2x pages, but did anyone else browse over there and find the same problems? If you did, we should also let them know the deal
There have been over a thousand views on this thread, and only a few have indicated the LCD bleeding and other issues. I think the reason LG is acting unaware is because it is only a handful of folks that are affected. Most people got a good device. Yet it sounds like there is recourse for those who are having issues. good luck folks. I bought mine in store intentionally, tested there and was on my way. I still can't give up my Vibrant, lol. I love that phone. I know once I start throwing ROMs on this Gx2 I will love it too. I love you!

I'd say simply Calling it, and leaving a few Reward if Found Texts!
So, I do deliveries, and my phone is always in my car as the GPS is a MUST. Well, tonight, the unfortunate happened. GOt in my car, about to head home from my shift, when my stereo popped up and said failed to connect with bluetooth device. "Uh oh, i must've left my phone at work, wonder why i brought it out of my car..." Turned around, a block down the road, no such luck pairing while in the parking lot next to the small office building. "maybe it just doesn't reach this far" went inside and searched everywhere. No luck. had another employee call it form his cell. "Welcome to verizon wireless..." he hung up and tried again, same message. Third time it went to voicemail. So, i called verizon, they suspended my line, and added the ESN to the stolen list.
Well, now I am without a phone in a critical position where one is needed. Maybe I can get by for a few days without, but will slow me down alot, and my preformance based pay will be docked massively. Question is, what phone should I be looking at? I still have my upgrade eligibility, but instead of $100 credit which I earned on a more expensive plan, I only have $30. So, verizon has screwed me over. Also to find out, i have not been paying insurance all this time, when I never requested for it to be removed.
What phones should I be looking at? any new changes to verizons policies/pricing that I should watch out for?

Maybe you can install Lookout Security remotely. The free version will show you where the phone is on a pc and you can do contact backup as well as make the phone scream. I have never tried to install Lookout myself remotely so I don't know what if any responses it may ask on the phone, but I do have this app.

[Q] MayMyRun-- Gone from Gear Manager

It appears that Samsung is removing apps from Gear manager that were actually useful to be replaced by gadget apps that really don't do much.
Called Support to ask what happened to MapMyRun, one of the original fitness apps available. The answer- probably pulled by the developer they say!
Why- I ask? They don't really know, just speculation. I asked how I would replace it if I had to do a reset since right now it still functions and is in my list of apps, the answer is you can't.. Bottom line the answer is that I am SOL. By the way this is for the US market and if it is still around in other markets please post something.
I think it is time to return the Gear 2 and cut my loses. We can't even keep the apps we have much less get any good new ones even with $1.25 mill up for grabs! Ashamed because I really like some of the features but am beginning to believe that what we have now is about as good as it is going to get with Android Wear out and the Apple and Microsoft wearables in the near future. Don't even mention the rumors about the Gear 3 to go along with the Note 4!
I got a Gear Manager update today to 2.1.14071502 but MapMyRun still doesn't show. I got it earlier and hope they pulled it to finally add heart rate monitor support for the Gear 2.

If it was pulled by the developers, then Samsung should now, not just guessing.
I bet it is their app store screwing things up.
I have seen it for my own apps too, suddenly many users an't see the app anymore.

Android 6 ETA?

Has anyone heard or read anything about when we might get Android 6 on the S6? I read somewhere that Samsung has an Android 6 beta testing program going on in South Korea, but there was no mention of when beta testing would end. And then it has to go through Verizon before we get it, right? If we don't have an unlocked bootloader by the time the Android 6 OTA rolls out I think I'll just bite the bullet and update even if it means losing root.
The latest leak said 1st quarter 2016, but there's no proof the leak was legit. If it was, however, that give us until the end of March. Even then, I can't remember if that was just on Samsung's end or if it included Verizon's end.
2016 Q1 is just for Samsung's part of this.
I have a contact that I've asked that would absolutely know. I sent them a text asking for a date. They said "very soon". I will try to make time to call them today and get a more exact date.
I have read that S6 gets MM as soon as this month. But since Verizon seems to be slow at updates, i wouldnt hold my breath for anything soon.
Uh oh, now the buzz is that the first S6 marshmallow wont appear until February. And who knows when a Verizon version shows up.
And now... February / March. I may change to a 6P before S6 gets MM...
Thanks for the replies...I still remember waiting and waiting (and waiting) to get lollipop on my S4.

It's extra annoying that the carriers still pre-load all that crapware. Their old justification that we're subsidizing your phone purchase so we're putting that junk on your phone doesn't hold water anymore since they are going to monthly payment plans. All of the apps (and I mean ALL) should be able to be completely uninstalled, not just disabled/hidden/frozen/etc.
February or March plus (hopefully not but very likely) another 3 or so months for Verizon to load it up with bloatware.

Yep. I think carriers should now just keep all their crapware apps on the Play store. Some people do like some of the "value-add" crap that carriers install but many I think would like not having to deal with hiding/removing/freezing the crapware. All they have to do is just put the apps in the play store and if people want them, they can install them there. Maybe Google can jump in and help the situation somehow. I don't know.

I couldn't agree more. I wouldn't mind if they "lock" the bootloader until you fully pay your device. The updates should be the same way Apple pushes their updates; regardless of carrier.
Google has the power to impose this just like Apple did; to control the user-experience all throughout. IT'S TIME!

I don't so much have a problem with it being pre-installed, but that it can't be fully uninstalled. Sure, preload VZ Navigator, IMBD, NFL, etc but make all those completely removable just like any other app I download from the Play Store. The fact that all you can do is disable them is complete BS.
I've been complaining loudly to Verizon because their last 2 firmware updates have completely killed what little battery life my S6 used to have. When "Android OS" and "Android System" continually show up at the top of the battery usage list using 25% or more of my battery life I know there is a problem. I finally talked to someone willing to discuss the issue who "unofficially" agreed there is an issue and that they are working on it and it would probably be fixed in the 6.0 release "coming soon." Wasn't good enough for me so I bit the bullet and got a Nexus 5x (and am very glad I did!).

Question S22 Ultra Samsung lock help

Hi, I purchased a Samsung S22U on Facebook a month ago and the phone got locked by Samsung this morning, saying it was "lost in transit or a trade-in device was never received". Samsung doesn't seem to care and won't even look at all the pictures and messenger conversation I have.
I haven't flashed ROMs or rooted a phone in a decade, but I used to be very familiar with it. Will flashing a custom ROM bypass Samsung's lock on the device, or do you know another method to get around this? This has become a very expensive paperweight. Running multiple IMEI checkers, it doesn't seem to be blacklisted.

So exactly how long you bought it until now? As I know, Samsung allows only 15 days from the day when the previous owner received his phone for trade-in program. After 15 days, they will lock it immediately. Here you said a month ago.

I picked up the phone from the guy on June 24th, but didn't activate it until yesterday or the day before. Thought I wanted an Iphone for macro photos, but bought a digital camera instead.

ok, so it's weird because it exactly 1 month from the day you bought it. How much you paid for it?

Yeah, not sure if that's because I waited forever to activate or what. I paid $800, but he had it listed for $900.
You need to contact the person you bought it from. Samsung can't do anything to help you since you didn't buy it from them.

The seller doesn't care, it's meant to be a scam. He's just ignoring my messages. I think I found a way to fix it, but it's going to cost me a little. Seems to be reliable though

Good luck with that. It sounds like you're about to fall for another scam.

Nah, it's a legit business. Hundreds of reviews, thousands of followers, dozens of videos dating eight years back. Can't believe I found it, but it's legit. Talked to the guy on the phone. The real question is: Will the fix last during updates.

So... Phone works great for the most part. Two things can't be done: System updates and using smart switch for data transfer. Otherwise, it is fully functional

If you're still interested, let me know. As said above, you can't do system updates and the smart switch won't work, but otherwise it's fully functional. They are working on the update part, but it's not possible yet

Hi. Can you tell me the person or the business info from were you able to get it working again, as i am in the same situation. Thank you.
Yeah, sorry. I stopped logging into this forum. I also just bought a new phone since I couldn't risk a random nighttime update causing me to lose stuff. Here is the guy... Tell him I sent you. It won't get you any discount or anything, but maybe he will remember me too eventually haha https://www.facebook.com/MNMobileGuy
