I love the ICS leak SO MUCH. It's amazing. It's fast. It's smooth. And, best of all... it's nearly stock!
That's why I'm gonna stick with the leak even after the full release comes out. Because the full release is bound to have more blur, maybe the Moto flip-up icons, and probably some of those Moto widgets I'd never want.
So unless the completed ICS release has some MAJOR bug fixes (which I doubt, since I've seen zero bugs and performance is great), I see no reason to upgrade. I'm so happy with the leak.
Anyone else feel the same way? Or is there some major feature still missing from the leak that people are gonna want?

Though, I can tell your enthusiasm in regards to the "leaked" and unofficial release of 4.0.04, I think it would be foolish of you to not take the OTA once it has been released to us.
Furthermore, since the leak is unofficial release, there still begs the questions as to why some are on 1.2GHz ad others on the 'stock' 1GHz, plus the other bugs noted in the [BUGS] thread.
Now, you may not have noticed any of the issues listed in the thread, but in being on a leaked version of ICS you will receive NO support, and likely the work of our amazing devs will be working off the official ICS version with their roms once released.
Just my two bits...
I absolutely love this ics leak on my phone, have absolutely no problems whatsoever . Only reason I may switch to the official release is the potential of upgrading to jellybean... but honestly I may move to verizon and get the DROID RAZR HD sometime in September or October. So who knows if I'll even make it that far with the ATRIX 2 lol

Its funny you bring up how some caught the 1.2MHz and others got just 1MHz. Before I bricked my first I know 100% fact was clocking at 1.2MHz in fact, I posted a Screenshot of my results on benchmark. Now this replacement is at 1. Dont know if its the ROM or what but thia what I got now.

Sent From My Rooted Motorola Atrix 2 on ICS 4.0.4 Running SCV7!!!
I'll stick to the SCV7 rom until I see what the actual release looks like.
No doubt in my mind going official..... Fairly sure it will be even more stable than the leak..... Small things do need to get fine tuned might not be bugs but do affect performance..... Imho leak is awesome now.....
If I were on the ICS leak I would definitely update to the official OTA when ICS comes out. The ICS leak right now does have some peculiarities that need to be addressed. Also, I'm 90% sure that the official OTA is going to be just as blurred as the leak is. If you plan on flashing any ROMs based off of stock ICS then you should definitely be on the official OTA beforehand.

Why the Razr HD? AT&T essentially has a Razr HD... take a look at the Atrix HD. But remember that the Razr HD and the Atrix HD will both be very locked down, just like the A2... the Atrix HD doesn't even have root yet. Just FYI, a new Nexus phone is always announced around that time of year... .

The same thing happened with the DROID Bionic ICS leaks (1Ghz or 1.2Ghz - I'm at 1.2Ghz), and the general consensus is that there is some type of stress test that determines whether you get the 200Mhz bump or not.

Dude why do you think I switched? It has a carrier-unlocked pentaband radio that works with virtually any GSM or HSDPA+ network. I'm still under contract to AT&T and was tired of the A2's dev limitations due to the locked bootloader, having previously come from a Samsung phone (I still have the A2 anyways as a beater). Spend the paltry $350 if you can do it, because it's the best value smartphone currently out for the price, 4.1 Jellybean lives up to the hype in every way, direct updates from Google certainly doesn't hurt, and it has the biggest and best Android dev community hands down. After owning this phone I will never purchase another phone that isn't a carrier-unlocked Nexus, to put it simply. And that's fine because my phone is still guaranteed for at least the next 2 major updates even if I don't decide to buy the new Nexus that will inevitably drop in November. Carrier and manufacturer freedom is a fantastic combination.

Call me greedy, but I'd rather have an unlocked bootloader so we can run Cyanogenmod. That's where it's at.

Loll noooo.... seriously, I genuinely love the company... when I was in undergrad I even did an internship with one of their subsidiaries over seas. I'm back in grad school now, but when I finish I'm truly thinking of changing careers and applying for a job with them.
You guys wouldn't believe the amount of motorola devices I've gone through, the original Motorola Q is still my favorite device ever!
All my mobile tech gear at the moment is motorola, my phone, tablet, Bluetooth headset, stereo Bluetooth headset for working out, hands free car kit speaker is all Motorola! If they made a pc/laptop, I would buy it lol (lapdock doesn't count )
I know we all like to complain about some of their annoying policies like the locked boot loader, etc... hell I bricked my Xyboard and had to mail it to them (and the customer service was awesome) but the quality of their hardware is almost in a league of their own!
Yeah I'm a bit obsessive but I have very strong feelings about this company lol

Well, I am so happy for you that you switched (sense the sarcasm here?) but I have to call you out on one thing. You comment about the devs "limitations" and being tired of that, well, I must say you've just had the cross hairs put over your forehead with that statement. Tell me where else you can find the talent, experience, and devotion to a device and community than right here? Sure, any mildly intelligent person who can fog up a mirror can mod/theme/rom for any device with full unlocked provisions, but to discount the abilities of those who have done what they have for this phone in spite of a locked bootloader is just insulting. Maybe I'm getting defensive here, and I don't really care if I am. Even if that wasn't you're implication, might be nice to have some decency about you and respect for the devs here with the caveat of "regardless of the limitations, the devs still have made some amazing breakthroughs, but I just wanted more" or something along that line. Not by saying that 'I'm so tired of these guys not being able to do anything with the A2'. Furthermore, this thread isn't a "look how awesome I am because I have a better phone than anyone else" thread...
Oh, by the way, did you ever get your MMS working on that Nexus? For me, and my A2, we still get picture messages from girls wanting to show us their melons.

So the original s2 and international only? Hope the skyrocket international comes along beside it so someone can port it to att for us.
Was really hoping for this to be att news. But I guess I should have less faith in them.
We have a different processor and gpu in our Skyrockets than the international version. Not sure if ICS for that device would help a lot for rom development on ours, but then again we have some amazing devs here on XDA
Or not...

As long as LG isn't the one to get it.....my wife's (after I pawned it off on her) Thrill is still yet to be updated to Gingerbread.
Comparing Samsung to others like Motorola and HTC, they are all the same. At least they have been pushing updates for bug fixes and such. The Thrill has yet to get even ONE update and they have major rebooting issues along with others. I would buy another Samsung. Would prefer they were the ones to get the next Nexus phone again.

I traded my Thrill for the Skyrocket because of this. SO glad I don't have that paper weight anymore. At least we know ICS is coming, and it's about ready. LG was just playing with our emotions.
I said the same thing about only getting Nexus, but I was unimpressed with the specs of this last one and my NS4G had horrible reception issues because of a ****ty antenna.
Add to this the fact that they omit an SD card slot <--That is the biggest deal breaker by far! I like being able to take all of my files with me from phone to phone and not have to spend hours transferring files when I get a new phone.
Its basically just the carriers, if you want to get updates and have an amazing phone get the international version! I would speend 300 bucks more to pick up a of gs2 when it first came out. But I get a free phone anyway. Same thing for the gs3 the galaxy devices are pretty dang good! I mean the gs2 is still on of the best IMO. Or at least just got past after a year of it being out. So grab that extra. Money and go for it

It sucks that they're taking so long. But, if you want to stay w/ GSM, I think the SR is still the best game in town ICS or not. Battery life on the Nitro and Vivid aren't nearly as good. And when I played w/ them at the store, they weren't nearly as responsive as the S2 (i777 or SR). The Nitro's screen was nicer, but wasn't so much nicer that I'd give up battery life and performance (and LG doesn't do much better w/ updates either). Nexus is cool, but if you don't wanna pay $6-700, value external storage, and LTE, that's off the table, too.
Samsung should've been happy w/ the original S2 (still one of the best phones available right now). They didn't need to release so many versions. I had in mind before buying this phone that the i777 will get ICS before the SR (either thru XDA or official) since the hardware is nearly identical to the international version. But, LTE was more important to me than ICS.
We can keep waiting for that perfect phone, or be happy that we have an awesome phone right now.
nexus devices are always inferior then the latest phone of that year...For example...Nexus S was inferior then SGS and now Galaxy Nexus in inferior then SG2....
I agree with above poster...with so many devs working for our phones, I think I would always go for a better hardware then the one which will get updated quickly.
I am using Samsung Captivate now, I am already running ICS (almost stable). it was one of best smartphone hardware wise 2 yrs ago..so its still getting development really good.
Waiting for official updates is dumb. The devs is where the good stuff comes from. ICS will be on our SR's from our devs loooooooong before Samung or ATT gets it to us. Standby for the good stuff. It's coming.
Sent from low Earth orbit with my SkyRocket.
So there's no XDA release of ICS yet for Skyrocket?
Not a fully functional or stable one.
Im opening this because my ild one was closed for no reason. Never was contacted by a mod or anything. It was just closed without reason.
Ao basically im able to open up a new contract on ATT. Im just not sure what to get though. The choices i had above are what i was thinking but im open to suggestions and opinions.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I'm not sure why it got closed either. Lately it seems the mods are a little trigger happy on the lock in the general section. Seems like a perfectly legitimate topic that fits well into the rules of general...
You already know my opinion though . Wait for more info on the GSIII. The Note has been out too long (in my opinion) and therefore the hardware is a little underwhelming. It seems the GSIII or One X will fare better in terms of updates to new versions of Android too, with both being the flagship. Like you said, the GSIII is bound to have a big ole battery, and the One X plagued by the same old battery issues of HTC. Add in the fact that you can't replace the battery, and that's a big problem.
By the way, a good site to look for info on the GSIII is linked below. They add updates quite often at the bottom of the article.

SGS3 vs OneX vs Note?
Here's my take on things:
Note is immediately disqualified since it simply belongs in the previous generation. It can still run almost anything, if not all, apps on the Play Store though.
SGS3 vs OneX! Now here's where we get a hard time! Anyway, I'd go for the OneX because it's already available And since your on T-Mob then you'll be ending up with the Krait version which I actually consider superior to the 4-PLUS-1 NVIDIA chip. BUT if SGS3 comes out with a 32nm or a similar 28nm architecture then it's gonna be a no-brainer for me and go for the SGS3. 40-45nm is simply no match for <32nm chips.
Plus: The camera on the OneX kinda sucks compared to the SGS2, so I'm guessing the cam on the SGS3 will own it.

I have the AT&T note and I love it. Yeah the screen is huge but man it is beautiful. As far as speed it does everything I want it to without any slowdowns. There are OC'ed kernels for it that can really make this sucker fly if you want high benchmarks. For me, it runs perfectly the way it is.
I would love to get my hands on the SGS3 but by the time it land on AT&T store shelves it will probably be Q4 of this year or sometime next year. Remember when the SGS2 came out? That phone hit the Asian and European market well before it hit the states. And when it got here it kinda lost its luster.
Lastly the HTC One X. I'm just getting real tire of HTC. The phone is beautiful and comes with some nice hardware BUT no micro SD or removable battery is deal breaker for me. I don't know what they were thinking. Its not too difficult adding these options but they carelessly neglected it.
And please people don't start telling me that 16gb of internal memory is enough. Maybe its enough for you but it's not enough for me. I don't tell you what you want so don't tell me what I want.
Just my 2 cents.

I think it is a matter of timing. If you already have a fairly recent dual core LTE device then the One X will only be an incremental step up. Faster, yes, but not as big a difference as if you were going from a single core phone to the One X. If the S3 lives up to expectations with a new generation quad core, however, it could be a significant increase in performance (final specs yet to be released...).
Problem is we dont know when the S3 is coming out, especially not in the states. If they do announce the release date during their press event on May 22nd it will still be at least 2-3 months before it makes it to the US.
For me, my old Captivate just hard-bricked and I need a new phone ASAP, so I will be getting the One X as soon as it comes out. If I had one of the newer previously mentioned devices (including the note), I would wait and compare.

exactly why I said if I could wait I would. The Samsung Galaxy line has been the leader for the last two years, but HTC is trying to reclaim the throne as the best smart phone producer (so they have something to prove).
The S3 could blow everyone else out of the water, or it could just be in equal running with all the others coming out this year (meaning it would be a matter of taste at that point). "Could" is the key word here...
I have been thinking of buying the Tegra 3 version from overseas it says on most review sites that its compatible with ATT. Dont have LTE in my area so thats not usefull to me. Anyone thought about that option yet.

Tegra 3 sucks. Its already been shown that the s4 beats it. Plus the s4 requires less power. And dont give me the stupid quad core automatically is better than dual core argument either. And this isnt even rated to why this was started. Thats not an option for me. Im nlt going to go shell out 700 for a phone that sucks compared to one i can get for $200

I didn't say it didn't exist, it just virtually doesn't exist. I know your excitement is getting the better of you, but outside of the baseless rumors you hear every other day; nothing about the phone is known other than it's going to be here one day. It makes sense to make a comparison once the specs are officially ripped and posted for inspection.
According to this article I found we are one of the FEW moto phones to get JB.
How dependable is it? Heck if I know. I'd just like ICS at this point...

Well, I would consider it more a "gettin' ready for the glory hole" plan, so as to be of some contributor-level support on what everyone is waiting so anxiously for (ICS/JB for the ATRIX 2); and beyond that, this has become an enormous interest for me, as I am sure is the same for many others, and just want to get at the heart of it with full fervor... but, nonetheless, I know where our limitations are, what our capabilities are possible of, and know that we (the A2 community) can seriously tear this phone a new one when all put our heads together! In the meantime, I shall be immersing myself in getting "me smarts on" as some kid in college said to me, who probably now works for the city's sanitation department!
That article is just speculation. With the atrix hd coming out i highly doubt we will get jb officially. Once we have official ics the devs will be able to work up something for us.

It's confirmed that sgs 2 isn't getting jelly bean update. Hence I doubt Atrix getting it. And reading the source its just their guess and not confirmation from motor. Let's get the official ics first and then hope for jb.
motorola has history of upgrading phone to only one update like they did with defy ....came with 2.1 ....they release 2.2 ...though its totally capable of running 2.3 they never released 2.3 instead they released defy plus with 2.3.3 so its same with atrix 2 ...now they released atrix hd with ics ...... only razr ,razr maxx nd atrix hd from motorola will get jellybean ...

The OG ATRIX came with froyo, got the GB update and is scheduled to get ICS. I wouldn't say that this phone WON'T get JB but by the time it does I will be long gone and into another phone.
The ONLY way I buy another MOTO phone is if they make the next Nexus.
Moto makes some excellent phones and I would recommend them to anyone who simply wants a phone and doesn't like modding things. But since we are all on this great site, that rules us out and unfortunately Moto thinks we are the minority and they do not care about us.

I agree. My wife started out with a backflip and now she has the original atrix and they are stable for her because she don't care about modding. Myself on the other hand bought the a2 because of motorolas products being stable and I thought we would have the bootloader unlocked by now. This will be my last motorola phone for sure because of the bootloader issue. The a2 is a good phone but Im just getting bored to easy with it.

True, and the reasons for JB denial on SGS2
dual core(min quad required??)
low resolution(min hd 1280x720)
I guess a2 has similar config, and also likely to miss the JB upgrade

Not all OG atrix ....some r still in plans of evaluation and planing.....nd i think some has even been rejected for ics......anyways OG ATRIX WAS A FLAGSHIP OF its time i read Engadget article how AT&T introduce new phone to market posted here by Dev Jim ....... The reason they r updating it to ICS IS due to its flagship status .....while Atrix 2 is not a hit or flagship device........nd now since they release ATRIX HD Like defy plus......the chances has became slim ....anyways ur right with moto for excellent phone.......its the only reason i got this phone after using defy for a year....
This will be my last Android let alone Moto!

We should consult Oracle (from matrix) bootloader UNLOCKING

Hi folks, contract up in January, I'm after a phone with good hardware and long battery life that I can flash to 4.1 vanilla.
Any news on roms in the works for HD and HD MAXX?
I noted there was a 4.1 leak, can anyone confirm if this is vanilla android?
Its vanilla Motorola blur. There is dev support for the HD. there is no recovery for the HD yet. The phone has been out for two weeks. Roms will come
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda premium
There is a recovery now. Check the Dev forum. But I'm personally waiting for some stock jellybean ROMs before i unlock my bootloader. To be quite honest though this could be the perfect AOSP device for anyone who prefers all of what the SGS3 has to offer but hates its build quality. But because its development is so close to the Nexus 4's release i fear we won't get much interest in this device because this baby would fly with JB.

And about the ROMs, yes, they will come... Give it some time.

This. Also besides the usual Verizon bloat this phone is pretty darn vanilla. When roms do start flowing I'll be happy with a jb debloated Rom.

theres that one rom Vitreous on rootzwiki so it is starting up without a custom recovery, and I'm sure one will come. But I think they're should be a subforum to separate the gsm and vzw versions to avoid confusion
Check hascodes tweets. He could release safestrap 3 now if people wanted... ROM flashing isn't working right yet apparently but you can still back up apparently.

Can someone confirm for me how many different types of the HD are around. 925 and 926 in the US, is the International version (I'm in Australia) with an unlocked boot loader the same as your developer edition or is it another version?
I'm trying to decide between a razr HD or a nexus, but don't want to get stuck on old software again.

I'm coming from a Galaxy S2 and all its ROMS are slightly broken sue to Samsung not supply documentation or support for some chips. (I get 1-2 RIL crashes a day still)
What is the moto hardware like? Is there good support and can we expect something like a CM10-11 stable? I'm just trying to decide between a Nexus 4 with up to date software or a Razr HD with the bigger battery.

I made the call to purchase an HD Maxx via Swappa to replace my GNex. Post Jellybean Gnex battery life has dropped to ~6hrs, so battery life became #1 priority for me. However, since I bought the phone at retail price and not through any subsidized plan, I did not sign a new contract. This preserves my unlimited data, and allows me to jump to another carrier if I wish . . . I believe my contract end date is sometime in December.
With the Gnex, Verizon screwed up in such an epic fashion that I was ready to jump ship as soon as the Nexus 4 launched. But its battery being only 2100mah, nonremovable, and wildly varying numbers for battery life as well as its paltry internal storage really put me off.
Still might sell off the Gnex and HD Maxx in a few months . . . a 32GB/64GB Nexus 4 would really help that decision.
It seems to me like development for the Thunderbolt has almost completely died out. I am strongly considering moving on to something else with an ARM processor and a good battery. If we were given a stable Jelly Bean ROM, then I would have stuck with it longer. The only thing even close is a meshed together 4.0.1 that is still broken in some ways. Is there anything better in your opinion than Jelly Bean with more features and options? What else would you like to say? Thanks!
Due to the fact that I am a Verizon customer w/a tenuous grip on unlimited data and bored w/the non-ICS/Jelly Bean-havin' Bolt, just bought a Samsung Nexus on eBay. Move on, dude, move on.
I have been eyeing the MOTOROLA DROID RAZER MAXX HD. The extra battery life would be wonderful. I will never buy another damn thing from HTC. I don't want to be put on the back burner for Jelly Bean 4.2 or Key Lime Pie. Do you think it will be Déjà vu all over again? Extra long delays or never showing up at all. I think I might be better off choosing a MOTOROLA device now that Google owns them.

Remember locked boot loader unless you get the developer one.
I still love my droidx.. oh they have a workaround for the boot loader but you loose a core (duel core goes to single core)
Sent from my ThunderBolt using Tapatalk 2
Doesn't matter which manufacturer, any device will be extremely lucky to upgrade more than once, if at all. They want you to keep buying the newest thing.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app
But the phone manufacturer that updates the most-often, customers will recognize that. Well some customers, anyway.
Not to hijack but what about the Droid X boot loader? You mean X2 since you said the workaround takes a core? And I guess it doesn't apply to the OG Droid X?
