HTC One S not getting reception - HTC One S

I've just followed most of the guides for unlocking, installing recovery, rooting, superCID'ing and updating my phone. I'm currently back to 1.78 stock.
I've unlocked the phone and am using it with GiffGaff, but I get no reception and "Emergency Calls Only". If I *#*#4636#*#* to get phone info I can see the following:
Code:
Singal strength: -75dBm -18asu
Location: LAC = unknown CID = unknown
Neighboring CID [[email protected]]
Roaming: Not roaming
GSM service: Emergency Calls Only
GPRS service: Disconnected
Network type: GPRS
Message waiting: False
Call redirect: false
Call status: false
PPP sent 0/0
PPP received 0/0
Number of ppp reset since boot: 0
Pref. network type: GSM
Anyone got any ideas why I cant use the phone/txt? The One S is (so far) being a lot less co-operative than my HD2!

*bump*
No suggestions anyone? I currently have a very shiny, very fast, but very useless "phone".

have you tried to set the APN first?
my phone doesn't register to network if no APN is set, emergency call only on display.

Have you tried manually selecting network operation in mobile network settings? Search for networks a see if your phone is finding any networks at all.

Yes it can find networks. It shows a star next to the recommended network. If I choose one it will register successfully, but I still have an X for reception.
Oddly I can sometimes use the data but never call or txt. I have tried with both orange and giffgaff

I believe I've set the apn, or it was set automatically. When I go to the options there are some stock looking values for the network.

Try wiping cache and dalvik cache without having simcard on, reboot to rom and reboot again, then put the simcard back when the rom has fully booted at the second time. Twice after flashing custom rom my phone could not register to the network at all and doing that was only thing to fix it. :sly:

Motorola Dext - No Imei/APN/Signal

Hi, I don't know what the hell has happened to this phone but after looking at it I can see there is no IMEI, no APN settings and no signal.
The phone has recently been unlocked from Orange to allow the use of an O2 Sim card. Using one of those internet unlock sites. It has been working fine for the past 2 weeks since unlock.
I don't really know what information to give;
Signal: red circle bar
APN: empty, I tried to add an APN to the list but it would not save. It just goes back to an empty screen.
Network: unknown
signal strength: 0dBm 0asu
mobile netowrk type: unknown
service state: out of service
mobile network state: disconnected
IMEI: Unknown
IMEI SV: Unknown
Any help would be awesome

im having the same problems but i managed mine to detect and display my network name but still no signal
i am seeing my imei and imeisv (20)
dial this on the dialer *#*#4636#*#* and in that settings go to phone info scroll all the way down make sure radio is on
and select gsm only but thats as much as i can come up with im stuck still with signal strength 0 dbm 0 asu
ok i was doing some reading. and i found it to be possible that the phone doesnt have the apn settings for all networks in built, so putting in your current carriers apn settings manually should work, im going to try this to see if it works, i just saw the part where you said you tried this but it wouldnt save, still going to give it a shot, mine was also unlocked from orange to use on digicel jamaica networks and it worked for about 2 weeks, then BAM! red anti circle for signal or circle with slash through it or cancel icon. and nooooo signal none whatsoever. but with the *#*#4636#*#* settings i managed to get it to display my carriers name when i drag the notifications menu down. i dont know if flashing the radio will fix this but i was told this moto cliq has the latest radio already. still searching for solutions
this problem is all over with 0 solutions lol

I managed to solve the problem a couple of weeks after making the thread by simply rooting it and installing a custom ROM, I think it came with a radio flash as well but can't remember. It's my sisters phone and it seems as though she hasn't had any problems with it since then so all is good.

[Q] How do I prevent Samsung Galaxy S 4G from connecting to AT&T?

I have Samsung Galaxy S 4G with T-Mobile in San Francisco.
Whenever I go to an area without T-Mobile signal, the phone connects to AT&T. I called T-Mobile and they said that's because T-Mobile has roaming agreement with AT&T so my phone would connect.
The problem is, when my phone connects to AT&T, I can't make any calls. It says the phone's not registered. T-mobile says that's because I'm in an area that has T-Mobile coverage.
You'd think that the phone would be smart enough to figure out that only emergency calls can be made (which is what BlackBerry does and shows SOS sign). The real problem for me is that, I have WiFi calling enabled with cellular preference, and when I'm in the basement of my office building where there is no T-Mobile signal (but there is WiFi signal), my phone thinks it has cellular signal so it doesn't activate WiFi calling, yet no phone calls are coming in b/c it's not registered to AT&T's cellular network.
Is there a way for me to force my phone to only connect to T-Mobile? I know there isn't on the regular settings menu, but perhaps experts could tell me how to do so using those star-sharp keys listed here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842134)?
Thank you!
Set wifi preferred instead of cellular.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work for me because I move around a lot, and Android WiFi calling feature doesn't have handover.
There's got to be a way to prevent this phone from connecting to AT&T at a low level somehow, no?
How do I do that? Have checked the manual but can't find location where explains how to select wi-fi preferred instead of cellular. Your kind advise will be appreciated
Open WiFi Calling and select settings. You'll see Preference. Select Cellular Preferred.
I think in setting then wireless and network, then mobile networks then network operators click the default settings.... select manual and wait for the carrier to pop up.
Will this solve your problem?

yep manual is exactly what OP should do.
if the settings for network operators are set to manual then u select the network u want and it sticks unless u manually select a different network provider. u are in select automatically mode so the phone can switch all on its own. this should solve your problem as other people have already mentioned
I have tried this many times and works as long you don't turn the phone off. After I forced the phone to manually select T-Mobile I checked many times the default setting and it remained in manual until the phone was turned off. When I switched it back on it was again in automatic mode and switching to ATT when signal is low.
Is there a way to prevent this? If not, well , first thing when phone is on in the morning is to check default setting.
5/24 I finally gave up and sold the phone. Samsung says they have not received any claims regarding this issue eventhough you see it frequently in the forums. I returned back to my HTC HD2 and will wait for the G2.

Bad SIM card.
no, tried 3 different sim cards, all the same response, 2 different mytouch 4G's with the same problem, only says limited service
I had a very odd issue similar to this after trying some different roms and then using CWM to restore my RG rom...
In short, I was only able to get service via wifi calling and while in my 'home' area. As soon as i left my home, I would loose all service while others maintained service just fine. If i didn't know any better, it would seem that my phone was locked to a specific tower.
It took a factory reset on the rom before I could get any service back while outside of my home market.
that almost sounds like the same issue, I can get wifi with no problem, just will not let me get service any other way, when I try to select tmobile from network selection it says your sim card will not let you get service
shot in the dark, but... did you check your apn settings???
how do I check apn settings?

I would grab a fresh rom, factory reset the device, flash the rom and reflash the radio. At this point, if you don't do so regularly, MD5 check what you download to ensure its as it should be.
If we go with the 'locked to a tower' assumption, when this happened to me, it appeared 'locked' to the tower it first connected to upon reboot. If you are not in that area now, it prob wouldn't connect.
Also, i have had nothing but problems when I attempted to apply the APN settings listed in forum posts. Just default them, see if it helps..
Settings> Wireless & Network> Mobile Networks> APN Settings > menu button, reset to default. But i think this only affects mms, internet and not the connection to the mobile network itself.
**edit**
I also received an error when attempting to manually connect or search to a mobile network.
factory reset, from cwm?
Yes. Once completed, i went ahead and reflashed the rom while still in CWM.
any other ideas if this doesnt work?
lol, brick it and call tmobile.. "its stuck in a bootloop"
another thought is to call tmobile and ask them essentially if they can reset your device in the towers. I worked for them (voicestream) like 12 years ago, the lingo has most likely changed but there maybe something in the system that is causing the problem..
I was able to see the problem go away once i factory reset, so I didn't bother. Just don't mention anything that could be noted as 'warranty voided'..
Typically, when I call, i give them just enough information to get them to do exactly what I want. They shouldn't care that you run a custom rom and they don't need to know.. just the fact that you cannot connect to the network should be information enough.

Sorry about the copy and paste but this seemed to be the one exception to the case, I would take a little time to look threw some of the rom settings. If this doesn't work send the phone back, it seems to me that's the last thing you want to do but if this doesn't work then you may have no choice but to and why waste more time.
i doubt this issue has anything to do with the apn settings as those only affect T-Mobile data, MMS and SMS. Even if they were completely wrong, the phone would still make a connection to the network for voice services.
When I got my mt4g with new simcard, I have to call tmo to reigster it.
Or perhaps the phone is simcard locked.

That's true, I had to do the same, I had a Blackberry prior to the MT4G and had to call and give them my IMEI and other info in order for them to activate my service, I got mine out right not through T-Mobile. I had to agree to the terms over the phone with CSR before I could do anything other than make calls.
Still I would think if he got the phone through T-Mobile and had the SIM sent with it as security goes you would still have to call in to verify you got the phone and call in the IMEI to be activated for that account.

See, this is the difference. You were able to connect to tmobiles network. OP is unable to get that far. There is no service, and even manually attempting to select a network resulted in an error.

The phone could be imei blockd. T-Mobile will do that if its lost or stolen. Or if the person who got it said he never got the package and they sent a new one. I kno this cuz my brother ripped of T-Mobile by sayin he didn't get a replacement and they blocked the one he said he didn't get. Try unlocking it and using a att sim

Really need your help quickly. Orange Message Centre Number?

Basically, earlier today for some reason my Nexus S was refusing to send a text to a particular person, it just kept saying message not sent. In a stupid attempt to fix it, I googled for assistance and ended up changing the SMSC number or whatever it is and now I can't send a text to anyone.
I've been searching around and got a converter site where I convert the SMSC number. I was told you enter your phone carrier's SMSC (which is Orange for me) so I found that out to be: +447973100973 and there was an alternative +447973100974, neither work though.
So, I put that in and converted and got this: AT+CMGW=24
079144973701904711000A9210299232900000AA0CC8F71D14969741F977FD07. Googling told me that it's the first sixteen numbers in the second line you enter in the SMSC bit on your phone, so I did that, pressed update and still none of my messages are sending.
Have I got the carrier's SMSC number wrong? There's also a 'Receiver' box on that converting website but that already had the numbers 0192292309 in it. Tried everything I can but I'm at a loose end now and very frustrated. PLEASE can anyone shed some light and help me fix my phone? Thank you.
Anyone please? I really need to sort this.
Seems like you had the right idea but you put in too many digits. The highlighted part has 18 digits, not the 16 you're supposed to have. Not sure if that was just an error or not. Anyway, assuming those carrier SMSCs are correct, you should be entering either 0791449737019037 or 0791449737019047 in the SMSC field.
That was an error on my part asharptm but thanks.
Does anyone think setting it back to factory settings will help? What will that do exactly, wipe out my Apps, Messages, Contacts and basically put the phone to what it was when I got it?
Also, heard putting your sim in someone else's phone, entering the SMSC in their phone and then back into your own might help?
Tried that there daleski and still not sending unfortunately. Thanks for your help though.

Cellular Network State: Disconnected

I am having a bit of a dilemma.
My OnePlus One started to act up this morning. I am unable to get anything above UMTS as the Cellular Network Type on my phone. I have checked the APN settings and they are correct. I am also getting my IMEI so that is not an issue.
I have dialed *#*#4636#*#* and tried to change the network type to LTE/GSM auto (PRL), but there is still nothing. In the Service State, I have listed is Voice: In Service/Data: Out of Service, and Cellular Network State is just Disconnected.
This issue happens on every ROM I try.
Any help/advice would be appreciated as I am stuck using my Nexus 4 for the time being!

I guess cellular network state just describes if you are connected to data services or not.
>drop down >signal bar >more settings >turn cellular network off and back on. Reboot. This is what worked or me.
