Dropped my phone today and the screen got destroyed :/. Anyways, I filed a claim with Asurion. I just rooted my device and installed CWM Recovery so I could back my phone up. Once I activate my new phone, can I restore the nandroid from my old phone and should everything work properly? Also, is there a way to tell if it is a refurb or brand new? Thanks guys!
Also, can I just transfer my sim card from my old phone to the new one and will it be activated? Or should I reactivate it with the sim card that Asurion sends?
From reports I've heard the nandroid will work. Also, just use the sim card you currently have and just keep the new one they send if.

Yes you can restore your nandroid, as long as its the same ROM. Yes you can use the same SIM. If it's a refurb, generally it won't be in the original Samsung box, and it will have a 'Remanufactured by Asurion' sticker in the battery compartment. It will most likely be a refurb though... If you really wanted a new one you could call down and complain. I got a brand new Droid 2 Global when it first came out because I filed an insurance claim on my broken Droid 1, and kept calling down complaining to get a new phone.

Hello. I'll apologize in advance for being technologically challenged. I bought an AT &T Tilt (HTC 8925) on Ebay almost a year ago and it worked fine for months. About a month or so ago, I started to get the message "no service" when I knew I was in an area of very good AT&T service. Within a day, I started to get the message "no sim" so I tried the sim in my husband's phone and it wouldn't work there either. So, I assumed the whole incident was due to a dying sim. I got a new sim and the phone worked great for about a couple of months. Then, last week, I started gettng the "no service" message again. This time, I sent the phone to HTC repair since they said they'd diagnose for free. They called me to tell me that the problem is I had a non-HTC supported ROM which ruined my main board and they could fix it for nearly $400. They say even though the phone is under warranty, the non-suppported ROM voids my warranty. They said the ROM was for a TYTNII and not 8925 and so it was just incompatible. Are they taking advantage of me becasue I don't know any better? I bought the phone specifically because it was unlocked and have never had a problem buying an unlocked phone online before. Do you think the person who unlocked the phone to sell it to me could have used the wrong ROM and it slowly damaged my phone or is that just nonsense? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
have you tried to reflash it?
Get the phone back
Hi
I think that the HTC policy is unfair in practice but in theory they are right. There could be issues to do with charging and temperature which could, in theory, affect a conneciton to the mainboard. If HTC are willing to send you the phone back in the same condition as you sent it to them without charging you I would take this option and flash the "correct" ROM to the device to see if this makes any difference to the problem. The correct ROM would be an update from AT&T for the Tilt. The other thing is to get a second opinion from an independent phone engineer if you can find one. It may not actually need a new mainboard but a new SIM card holder. It would be difficult to say that the incorrect ROM would affect a SIM card holder, so HTC wouldn't diagnose the problem in that way.
Hope that helps.

Andrew,
When you mentioned charging and overheating, I did have to replace my battery as well, it just wouldn't hold a charge anymore. I wonder if you're on to something. I did ask them to send the phone back to me so I should have it in a few days. The other reply I got to my question suggested "reflashing". I really don't know much at all about all of this. Is there a link to how to flash it? I did update the ROM based on a suggestion from HTC using the link on thier website. Before I mailed the phone to them, they thought I might have a radio problem so they suggested the ROM update. I did the update for the tytnII. My phone doesn't have any AT&T software on it, it looks just like the TYNT II photo on the HTC website. Based on that, what would you suggest I "flash" and do you happen to have a link to step by step instructions?
from that it sounds like htc told you to flash a kaiser rom the a TILT phone
Here's the deal guys,
I just got a month old Samsung Galaxy s 4G (HD7 wasnt doing it), i used the phone before i bought it because it was my friends, and it was fully functional and reading the sim (that originally came with it).
So i buy the phone and when i pop my year old HD2 sim card in it, it does not recognize the sim card.
Is this a case where i need a new sim card because the galaxy s is a 4g phone??
because i know for a fact the phone works.
thanks

get onto tmo chat and tell them your SIM stopped working. Older SIMs only allow so many activations till they die. The new ones are good to go though

Hi, I purchased a handset on contract from Three UK and have so far rooted, unlocked and booted a new ROM on to it. I understand this is reversible but after having some issues with my SD CARD SLOT,
I need to send in my handset for repair but they say that if a handset has been rooted it can not be returned because of the fact that it voids warranty!
I said what If I reverse changes and they said they will be able to tell that if the handset has been rooted in the past? Is this true? Can They? Is There away around this? Please reply soon - this is urgent, thanks.
i heard that if u unlock bootloader using xtc clip is a perm unlocked... correct me if i'm wrong.
If you had s-off then they can tell as chances are they only sell the s-on version. Only thing is if you have already contacted them about it then that fact they found it rooted means its on your account notes so you have no chance new unfortunately. The only way would be a chargeable repair. Insurance wouldn't cover it because its a manufacturing fault in most cases but I'd check that if you have it.

Question, phone reported lost from amazon never recieved it,after a week phone was replaced, now the other phone was found can this phone be used again by one of my family members,it has a sim card inside the phone.I told her I was sending it back and that it probably was put on a black list. But I am curious with all the new technologies out there is it possible, can I give it to her and she could bring it to her carrier and use it.
Yours or her carrier should be able to id if it is valid and a clean phone, that has not been black listed. Maybe call them...
I called verizion and they said they can't do anything because I did not buy the phone there,I will amazon tomorrow
but I bet they say call a carrier so I dropping it off at fedx.thanks
Hey All,
I have an 8GB 8X and have ordered a 16GB because I need more space. Anyone know of a way I can backup my original and restore to the new? Is that even possible? TIA.
UPDATE: I was hoping I could restore from my old phone by signing into the store but that was not the case. Maybe I did something wrong... Anyway, I installed almost everything manually. The new phone is one from Bell Canada. It has the same radio as ATT so I can still take advantage of the LTE but now I can't get to the ATT branded apps. Any ideas?

The carrier branding is determined by the 1st SIM card inserted into the phone upon a factory reset. You might want to try putting an AT&T SIM card and reseting your phone. I do not know if this will work an factory branded devices, but for "unbranded" devices, that's how it works.

Unfortunately not. I did get my text message history back from the backup feature in settings but I had to set everythign back up as new. It's actually unbranded but it came from Bell Canada. The only branding it has is that in the about us it has their contact details like phone and website. The other downside is that I got the portico update on my ATT phone last week but I'm still waiting for this one. If I'm correct, it has to come through from Bell? Cheers.
