Stable Jelly Bean on the cheap - General Questions and Answers

After hearing about the Nexus S getting JB I've been wondering if any other older phones will be getting official JB or prospects are looking good for a stable thrid-party port. I can't afford a SGSII or even a Galaxy Nexus right now...

Samsung captivate has job port pretty stable I believe. Just look around there's a lot of good phones out with great devs
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

Youre right I should look around, gonna go through the JB port announcements on the main XDA site. The Captivate will certainly be an option to consider along the Nexus S.
EDIT:Seems Motorola Defy has a rather advanced port.

you can get the moto defy also, has a pretty decent CM10 and it can be got for cheap also

HTC Desire HD seems to have a advanced JB port.

The HD2 has a fairly good port, with everything but YouTube working. I don't think HWA is working either but I haven't really checked much, I'm still using CM9 until something better is released.

Captivate is very inexpensive and the Remic port of JB is working great

Edit: Nevermind, wrong forum. Too many open tabs. I know, very noob...

HTC Dinc2 has two promising threads of JB CM10 (N7 & Aeroevan's). Just flashed the latter last night and it's pretty good so far. There are some bugs, but they have a lot of active development on them.

Get the Captivate only if you don't need or care about gps. I had one, and gps never worked properly. But it was a decent phone otherwise.

My captivate had great gps but I did see a lot of crappy GPS cappys

Google takes care of Nexus devices itself and that's what makes these devices great. No wonder Nexus S received JB update.

The vibrant has good ports.

Sure...my nexus s runs JB like a dream!
And would be my first choice if i was looking for a cheap phone wich provides the full aosp experience.

lol don't get phones with unofficial ports. Get ones that have a port made using official drivers.

Jelly Bean looks great

The galaxy s family has a good ICS and JB ports.

Samsung vibrant almost instantly gets roms ported from the Nexus S, loved having that phone for that purpose. I still have it but retired it upon upgrading to hercules

i think the development of JB for DHD is quite good in progress...

HTC has not confirmed nor denied the Inspire will be getting ICS. I'd bet not, and if we do it will take a LONG time, or one of the devs here will port it.
In the mean time, if you head over to the Android Development and Hacking section, and check out the Android Themes sub-forum there are a lot of different launchers and themes with ICS flavoring.

I agree with him on the themes portion. There are MANY themes that are ICS, and many of them work well, and look VERY smooth.
Concerning ICS and the HTC Inspire. Looking at the specifications of the Galaxy Nexus, the Inspire has the internal components that can handle ICS. The processor for the Inspire is faster than the Galaxy, and so on. The only difference between the two is that the Inspire has dedicated soft keys on the home screen, whereas the Galaxy Nexus will have the home screen buttons as part of ICS itself.
Also, after talking to HTC, they're currently looking into how they can roll out ICS updates for as many phones as possible. I also read somewhere that most of, if not all, 2.3 phones WILL receive the update. Until then, continue looking at the forums and wait until a recognized developer ports to Inspire. Hope this helps!

Not sure where you got your information from but this isn't even close to be correct.
But, I'm sure we will see ICS on the Inspire fairly soon after Google releases the source. Whether its from the CM team or a different dev.

I wish all we had to worry abut was when HTC was gonna release it but we have to wait for ATT as it will be them that finally releases an official release for our phones. It may not happen and we will have to use a port from the DHD which only has to wait for the HTC

I see a lot of good ported ROMs for Galaxy S i9000 using the AOSP 4.0.3. Even tried them and they are very good and very few bugs.

So what's the problem bringing ICS to the Infuse? I have a Captivate, which I didn't think was really much different from the Infuse, and I have several ICS choices currently. My wife has the Infuse and she's getting jealous that I can have ICS and she can't!
The Captivate is a much more popular device. Even though it is much older is has a larger development community. Even Samsung bothered to keep that device up to date for a while. I know somebody who got the Captivate on 2.1. Since then she got OTA updates for 2.2 and then for 2.3. Unfortunately for us Infuse owners, we are like the red-headed step brother to the SG2 so we get no love

[Q] When is 4.1 jelly bean being released?

You knew this question was going to come. Now that 4.1 has been announced, when are we getting ours?
This will take a longer time for sure, as HTC is still busy to release ICS
Jellybean dev kits are supposed to be released mid july. At least that's what this source says: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/06/27/google-announces-android-41-jelly-bean/
But it may be a while before we get a working ROM.
Given the time it took the CM team to release CM9 RC1, I'd say 6 months!
what about this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736699
Brace yourself for a long wait
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
While ICS is quite nice, it is hard not to want the latest, greatest thing on our devices Still, at least the Nexus 7 is available to fulfil the JB goodness until it's available. That may end up replacing my Nook Color which hasn't been used in a month since it's ac adapter gave up the ghost.
HTC says they "don't yet have an announcement" for Jelly Bean on existing devices.
... I can't post a link because <10 posts, but there is an article on pocket-lint.com
That will only lead to an anemic SDK ROM. sure it will show us the cool new features, but I wouldn't expect much. I wonder how long it takes to hit AOSP

Actually most of the changes are internal. I think project butter is a big internal change. Although the One S is already very smooth, squeezing more performance out of the S4 is a welcomed thing

Google doesn't care
I remember reading recently that Google knows about fragmentation but isn't worried about it. Now that I'm tempted to buy a media device to have the latest and greatest software, I can see how fragmentation can actually work for Google because now more and more people will look to buy nexus devices.
the main reason i got a HTC phone is because unlike Samsung's strange choice in hardware it dosnt take 5 months to port a fast stable release from the MOD team unlike HTC
lets hope this takes off !
the one X got already a port

You guys are lucky you might get jelly bean. Apple can't bother to try to get HTC devices banned because they're not actually a threat. Even if they were, HTC would be lazy and simply remove any infringing software. Us over at the sensation forum have a nearly working jelly bean rom but we won't have front facing camera working without official HTC kernel. Is it the same for you guys?

Virtually everything is working perfectly. Camera F+B, video, (Netflix on some builds),etc. The only problems are random reboots / freezing when screen is off but those have drastically reduced recently. There are even mounting of both internal and external SD on R4ins build although torch locks up when screen is off on his build. Our community took jb and ran with it. Daily driver for sure, at least for people who know what there doing and aren't scared of a hiccup or two along the way.
Best of luck getting yours functioning properly

There is no official JB for the Skyrocket yet, but you can get Vincom's Rom AKA VinRom if you go under developement its there. Not official but its the best ROM out there yet...Fast and very good.
Well take a look at how long it took us to get ICS. I believe we had a official release back in june and the unofficial leak back in December. So if we do get a leak I don't think we'll see one till mid 2013. Also keep in mind that the S3 is out so S2's are now obsolete.

R4INS' AOKP Jellybean Sept-5 build (with InstigatorX kernel, of course) is definitely the most stable and feature-packed variety of Jellybean available on the Skyrocket right now. I'd be surprised to ever see an official leaked for this device because the S3 replaced the relevance of the entire S2 line.
There are conflicting reports. This one from SamMobile seems to both confirm and leave it in doubt.
Ok, the insiders of SamMobile reported to us that all high-end Galaxy devices will get the Jelly Bean update.
In other words, the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy S III.
When we asked Samsung Benelux about this they told us that they couldn’t tell us anything about the updates.

I disagree. As long as we have good, dedicated developers, the SR is not obsolete. There is little an S3 can do that a SR cannot. Our SR's even have an advantage in some areas over the S3, not the least of which is a long, strong history of quality development. Some users prefer the shape and physical build-quality of the SR over the S3, too.
Obsolete? Skyrockets, especially rooted and modded ones, are way beyond most if the smartphone market.

I have a sprint palm pixi (ha ha i know, it was my first smart phone, and to be honest i think webos was the best os of all time, made sence to use)
I have an iphone 3gs that my brother gave me when i switched to at&t, and she kicked it hard untill the screen died ( little ba$$tard lasted 4 yrs)
Then i got the A2, now on my third one (have one to ship back, camera shat the bed, nothin but dark, p button randomly decides to put in a p when i text and the hard buttons are on the right (landscape), recieved the new one yesterday, but it came with ics so now im a bit sad)
I have 2 iphone 4 that i got for doing computer work, one at&t, one verizon... i just recently modified my sim card to work in both my a2 and the iphone so i can use the iphone at work ( keep my precious a2 out of the saw dust ( and tethering works on the iphone and i use it a lot at work)
When at&t finnally gives me an upgrade, ill be getting either the sgiii or the nexus 4 and selling back one of the iphones so i can keep my a2 ( if the bootloader was unlocked i swear it would be an almost perfect phone, i really love it)

When I had the ppc6700 I do believe sense was actually from a project called touch flow brings back some good old times.....
