Can't restore forgotten wifi network - Motorola Atrix 2

Hi,
I selected "forget" on one of my home wifi networks and there's nothing I can do to restore it back.
My phone: Atrix 2 ATT running stock 2.3.6
Thanks for any help

Manually re-entering the info is the only way. Once it "forgets" it forgets.

Tried that, it did not help. I can see a new network with that name but there is no signal
From other devices I can see and use the network.

Try a factory reset. I know it is a PIA, but most of the time, that fixes a lot of these oddities.

(1) Try *#*#4636#*#* then go to Wifi API, choose enableNetwork and enter SSID manually.
(2) Change some parameter of the wifi network (since this is your home network I assume it is under your control), last option being the SSID itself, but the pain is, you may have to update all your other devices.

WOW, that might be a painful way to go... try the factory reset before you go to all that trouble. I know it will be painful if I had to make a change to my SSID or anything that major on my netowrk, I would have to change my firewalls as well (2 checkpoint firewall one servers on 2 Sun ultra 10 servers). I know that is not typical, but even anyone who has more than 3-5 devices might regret having to go to each device and changing thier settings just to get thier phone back to seeing the wifi. when and factory reset should fix it.

Thank you all guys. My senses tell me that factory reset should do the job but since the ICS update is so close, I will save the trouble and wait for it, assuming it should work as well.

Just wanted to update everyone. I went on vacation and have connected to many different networks. When I can back, my lost network popped again on my device. My guess is it was hidden inside an internal queue, and once that queue overflowed it popped again.

Perhaps you can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51180156&postcount=2
This works on my I337 NI1 Unlocked Rooted. I uses ES Explorer with Root Explorer enabled.
I went to the "system " folder in the device, scrolled down until I found "build prop" then edited using ES Explorer Note Editor.
Greatly appreciated and high credit to dajumper's work !!

If you look at the post directly above yours you'll see that this was fixed over two years ago. Also, the link you posted is either dead or incorrect as it just goes to "404: page not found". That's not even to mention that this is the forum for the Motorola Atrix 2 so your post is in the wrong forum anyway. If you're just trying to get passed your 10 post requirement then please try to do so in a more constructive way. Thanks.

wifi turns off in 10 secs

Today I turned on my phone's wireless and I noticed it turned off quickly. I thought it was odd so I turned it on again...same thing occurred. The third time I went into settings > wireless and network > wi-fi settings and enabled the wi-fi card from there. It shows it's scanning and then displays "unable to scan networks" along with turning off the wireless card. What the crap?!
I've rebooted the phone a couple of times - still nothing. I'm going to try removing the battery for 10-15 mins and try it again but I don't imagine that's going to fix anything. A quick google search has shown only a couple other people with a captivate are having this problem as well. I have to imagine there are more out there? Anyone have a clue. I'm really trying to avoid flashing back to stock.
Thanks in advance.
Did you go through the process of enabling Non-Market apps directly on the phone (editing settings.db) ?
If so, did you follow the chmod/chown commands?

How would that affect WiFi??
If the system does not have proper write access to the file, and then a program says to the settings provider "turn on wifi", but the provider is not able to save that setting, it will later turn around and say "yeah... thats not supposed to be on." Which happens to coincide with an approximately 10 second window.

Thanks for your help. However I did not edit settings.db. I've only rooted the phone. Haven't done any other manual edits to the system.
The only relevant thing I can think of that might be useful information is yesterday morning I installed wi-fi analyzer from the market on my phone. I'm 99% sure that my wi-fi was working after I installed it but then later in the day the problem started. Last night I un-installed wi-fi analyzer just to be safe.
Could this program have made some edits to Android that is causing the problem?
I found a similar problem in a google code forum from 2008. Individuals were using a G1 and had the same problem. They mentioned that it appears as if the wi-fi driver would load but then wouldn't be able to recognize the wireless card.
Hopefully some useful information to someone. Thanks again guys for taking a look.

Rooted the phone by using the update.zip file from the "Pimp My Captivate" thread.
How could I edit the permissions for the file to see if this remedy's the problem? I already have Terminal Emulator on my phone but I'm brand new to linux commands.
open Terminal Emulator and follow along
Code:
$ su
# cd /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings/
# ls -l settings.db
You should see :
Code:
-rw-rw---- system system <snip> settings.db

Ran the code you gave and it returned what you wrote above:

I take it this means that settings.db is already set as writeable which means it's not my problem?
Yuppers... :/
Thanks for trying max.
What about the wireless config file? If this was messed up could it cause it the wireless card to act up like this? Could I simply delete this file and android would recreate it when I turned on the wireless card? Along with - where is it on the captivate?
Just a thought, my knowledge in this field is pretty low.

Update: A factory reset fixed the problem. However when I restored from a Titanium backup the wireless immediately stopped working. Obviously there is something in the software/files that are corrupt causing this problem.
Anyone have any ideas of which file to attack?

ABC: Is there anything you installed before the problem happened that you think might be causing it? I'm guessing since you said "again" that this is the 2nd time or more you'll be flashing your phone if we don't find a fix.
I had to flash it with Odin because my phone bricked two weeks ago trying to enable non-market apps. I don't want to go through that process again.
I didn't install anything except the WiFinder app. It stopped working after a coworker asked me to turn on my wifi to test an app he got for his phone that turns it into a WiFi hotspot through its 3G data connection. The test was unsuccessful anyway, but that is irrelevant.
I had the problem of wifi not being able to scan for devices after 10 sec. This problem was only on my wifi at work.
I set the IP address, IP mack, gateway address and DNS servers statically and saved the config. This got me connected to the wifi at work. You could try this.
Just changed permissions on settings.db and now wifi seems to be working flawlessly without a need for static config.

I'm curious if WiFinder altered a file that is causing the problem. Mine came just 30 minutes after installing Wifi Analyzer. Just hunch since both programs use the wireless card.

It sounds like the same problem I had but I wasn't able to connect anywhere - At either one of my offices or at home. I tried to add in manual settings in the Android menu but it still didn't help.
I'll try messing with the settings.db file if this happens again and report back. I'm crossing my fingers that I never have this problem again but you never know. Hopefully we can get a couple of known working solutions posted on here since it sounds like there are plenty of people out there having this problem.

[Q] Ready to Return My Transformer - Apps, Wifi Issues

OK so I have had my Transformer for 2 days now and so far it has been little more than a paper weight. I have not been able to download a single app from the market. I've tried everything suggested here (cancel/restart, reboot, etc) with no luck. I have not been able to even update Google Maps or install Flash Player, literally I have not been able to install anything. I've tried stock and rooted plus I cannot get any version of Prime to install (finally got the root and CWM installed). Lastly, since this is a Wifi only device it is important to wireless tether with my cellphone. Two days and I still cannot get it to work, will not even find the device. Only 2 days of ownership and I am completely frustrated with this thing. I really like and want the micro SD capabilities but if I can't resolve this ASAP it will need to go back to the store.
Anyone have any suggestions on what all I can try? Please help!
Sorry, I'm a little busy to look for the direct links.
Just look-for the vanilla NVFlash then add the Prime 1.5 (nvflash version). Dump them together into a folder then run the batch file. Simple !
I just helped two co-workers with their brand-new TFs getting rooted this way.
Maybe 5-10 minutes top.
Make sure you unzip the downloaded Prime file (it becomes 4 files). Read the NVFLASH post and have the USB driver ready.
Thanks man I'll give it a shot here shortly
Good luck.
And if you ever have a need to get back to stock (refund maybe ?), there is a stock-ROM (nvflash version), just as easy to get back.

You don’t have to root or flash with a custom rom to get the basic stuff like Wi-Fi. Everything works out of the box as advertised. If something doesn't then either you are doing something wrong or there is a fault with your device. Did you try connecting to a normal Wireless Router? Honeycomb can not see some types of adhoc networks without installing a patch (i.e created by Windows, this may be applicable to some phones too, however it worked fine with My Galaxy S).

I guess you enjoy using command lines to unroot ?!
There is a nvflash package w/stock-rom available. Just double-click download.bat then wait a few minutes.

Hi, sometime the problem is in the market. not the device itself. I got similar experience with my HTC device. I've installed many ROMs but the market always screwed. So what I did was, just reset your device, when it asks the Google account, type in your email like this: [email protected] instead of just blablabla or [email protected]

I guess your phone is offering up an adhoc connection, which Android doesn't support out of the box. It should work fine with phones that offer up a true infrastructure hotspot. Personally, I think adhoc networks should die a horrible death, but I appreciate their necessity if that's all your phone can do.
Search for adhoc and you should find a solution to this issue. You can also try PDAnet (tablet) too.
Regards,
Dave

Ad hoc issue appears to be most relevant.
Market download issues =software issues not hardware. If you do not have any other wifi option then go to McDonald's or Starbucks and try it on their wifi.

Don't know if this helps, But I just discovered that the Transformer doesn't seem to like hidden SSID.
Mine connects fine if the SSID is shown, but once I hide the SSID it said out of range.
My EVO 3D, iPod, TV all work with it hidden.
Does someone know if you can setup the TF to connect with hidden SSID?
Thanks
Thanks for the advice all. I don't have a custom ROM on it yet, just rooted. I can't get the zips to work. Says cannot open (bad). Will try re-downloading for a 5th time and see how goes it. I did figure out the wifi issue on my phone - it was ad hoc as stated and it recognizes my phone now but still won't download apps (says it's downloading but never does). Tried cancelling and restarting several times as well as factory resetting the device. Does the same thing when I connect to my home network as well.

My Wifi network is hidden and I had no issue connecting my TF.
What type of router and what settings does it have?
I am using a NetGear WNDR3700 (802.11-g,n). The TF connects to the 2.4 GHz section over 802.11n.
Is it wise to be playing with recovery images and custom ROMS, if you can't get basic market functionality working?
Clearly before changing your TF from stock, get the market working, this is almost certainly a probem with your Wifi router...
The only problem I am aware of with the Transformers Wifi, is sometimes it does not getting a DHCP address when coming back from sleep (use Static IP), the TW release has this fixed, but the WW does not for some reason, i'm guessing they know 3.2 is incoming soon.
Follow these steps to get the market working:
I don't exactly know what the problem is, but I've had it on a couple of phones before. I do NOT have a googlemail account, so that wasn't the problem.
I deleted all cache/data from the following programs: Market, MarketUpdater, Downloads, Download manager, googleapps (anything that seems relevant)
now first go on a computer, open your gmail via gmail.com, send a mail, edit some contacts, just make sure you do something! Now reboot your eee pad, accept the market policies and see if it works....
If this doesn't fix it, then I have no options left
Update: I ultimately returned my TF (I had already suspected that I didn't receive a new device due to other issues and packaging). I received the new TF yesterday (A+ to Amazon.com). The new TF was 1000x better. Loaded right up, connected, market apps loaded easily, quickly and on the first try. All in all I am pleased. And the root and ROM installs worked flawlessly. Actually enjoying my TF now. Thanks all for the advice and help!

[Q] Lost data signal randomly, what can I do? (solved)

I was walking around school today, listening to slacker radio. Out of no where, the music stopped. I looked at my phone, and it said there was no signal. I didn't think much of it. I figured there was some sort of outage. When I got home and put my SIM in my old phone, I found it did indeed have a data signal. So I put my SIM back into my galaxy and again, no data. I can still make calls and send mms, but I can't connect to the internet, my email, the store etc. I have tried flashing between the stock ICS rom and CM9. I don't know what else to do. I was going to try flashing a different kernel, but would that even make a difference? Can someone help me?
Also, I did check the settings to make sure data was turned on and all that jazz.

Fixing permissions never hurts anything. It's good to at least once a week anyway. The next thing I would try is checking your APN to make sure it matches what your carriers settings are. Flashing another modem wouldn't hurt anything either but if the one you had was working fine I'd look at the APN setting first.

All Hail Wiki
You can find it under settings>wireless networks more>mobile networks>Access Point Names. You'll have to do a google search for your carriers correct APN settings. Just make sure they match if not hit left soft key. New APN and enter the correct info. Then left soft key again to save it. Then select it and reboot.

I had tethering working on Sprint via this mod:
add a new entry to the "global" table called "tether_dun_required" with a value of 0 in the /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db file.
Just updated to 4.4.2; re-rooted (via WugFresh toolkit) tried tethering and its not working anymore. Not sure if its related to the 4.4.2 or not.
Anyone have a fix?

Thanks, appreciate the help. My issue is different however - the phone seems to start the tethering and I can connect to it through my tablet - but no data seems to flow... can't even run a speedtest on the tablet or load any webpage...
On the T-Mo side, I was afraid that we would lose the tethering with the latest 4.2.2 OTA - and initially, it looked that way. Speedtest would work on download side but "communications issues" on the upload side & unable to finish and show results .... Arrrrrgghhhh.
With two Nexus 5 on hand, it was easy to compare pre- and post- edits, hotspot & speed data, etc. along with comparing the entries in the above mentioned settings.db fields. First, save a coopy of the *.db just in case it is needed - then, added the tether_dun_required and value to 0 as a new entry/line, saved & exit. Reboot device for good measures, and sure enough, it connected by got re-directed to T-Mo's home page ... APN was set to IPv6
Change it to IPv4 and exit, restarted WiFi hotspot and it is good - fast speed and websites loading quickly, etc.
This may, or may not, help out those on Sprint's network - but, worth looking into ...

Thanks. The APN settings options are not there on a Sprint phone; drove me crazy trying to duplicate the the posts of the T-Mobile trailblazers until I saw a screenshot and figured that out.

Use PDA-Net and Foxfi to tether to your computer or sprint.

Yes; see my post here .
4.4.2 here, Sprint tethering still works for me after update.... Just tested it
Stock rooted, no custom ROM, no custom kernel just plain old stock with root and the settings.db edit

Hmm, wonder what happened with my config then. I'm in the same boat - stock rooted only. maybe i will try removing the new line in settings.db are re-adding... Right now I can launch hotspot and connect to it from tablet/laptop but no data flows thru the pipe....
I lost my tether after the 4.4.2 update as well. I have a Sprint Nexus 5. My laptop and tablet were able to connect to the hotspot, but no data was coming across.
I looked at the settings.db file and could still see the "tether_dun_required" entry was definitely there. So I decided to replace the settings.db file with a copy I had from before the 4.4.2 update. Rebooted the phone, and magically, tether started working again.
I was curious though to see if I put the post-4.4.2 update settings.db file back, then would I lose my tether? So, once again, I replaced the settings.db file with the post-4.4.2 version, rebooted the phone, and magically, tether still was working! WTF!
The only thing interesting that I noticed during all of this is that every time I replaced the settings.db file on the phone, the corresponding settings.db-journal file would disappear. I don't know much about SQLite, but I wonder if the journal file had some transaction state with the "tether_dun_required" hack removed or not committed.
Anyway, hope this helps.

Help with new wifi networks

I have recently updated my android HTC phone, and since then, each time I try to logon to a new wifi network I can't, and it tells me: "can't save new wi-fi networks, maximum number of saved wi-fi networks reached" ...
Can anyone tell me how to handle this?

Remove saved networks and try again.
Thanks for your response, but I need those saved networks and I prefer not to remove them (obviously they are over 200 saved networks)

I think 200 is the maximum limit
Go to /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf file there u can see your saved list with password(phone needs to be rooted I think) and remove any duplicate or unneeded ones or just make a copy of the file and delete some or all from the list and add Wi-Fi networks as u go and if u don't know the password just look up the copied file
U can copy this file with adb pull too(without root I think?)
Or try this app it has a option to backup and restore Wi-Fi list https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roamingsoft.manager
Thanks a lot for your help... but I was wondering if there is anyway where I could keep those saved networks on the phone just it used to be before the security update (they are was more than 200, and it was fine with the phone)... or even a way to uninstal the latest update, if this will get it back the way it was

No, there is a limit, remove some networks. There's no way you're using over 200 networks that you "need". No one needs that many networks, I'm sure you can spare removing a few. Just remove some of them instead of trying to bypass the limitation, you would more than likely just cause issues trying to modify the limit.

You know, I would have believed you and followed the advice hadn't it been working very well with me before I do the security update... Yes.. I had way more than 200 wifi networks, and they were all stored at the same time on the system, until the latest update... So, thank you for the suggestion, but no.. you are not correct... there is a way.... and that's what I'm trying to figure out...
Same problem, with more detailed description, here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/help/save-wi-fi-networks-t3547638
