[Q] Lost data signal randomly, what can I do? (solved) - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I was walking around school today, listening to slacker radio. Out of no where, the music stopped. I looked at my phone, and it said there was no signal. I didn't think much of it. I figured there was some sort of outage. When I got home and put my SIM in my old phone, I found it did indeed have a data signal. So I put my SIM back into my galaxy and again, no data. I can still make calls and send mms, but I can't connect to the internet, my email, the store etc. I have tried flashing between the stock ICS rom and CM9. I don't know what else to do. I was going to try flashing a different kernel, but would that even make a difference? Can someone help me?
Also, I did check the settings to make sure data was turned on and all that jazz.

same hir a couple week ago .i have my data connection.. and evry day i always flaahing and testing a new rom. and my data betwork.is still working.. but 1 week aho i lost my data connection.. i also try to flash stock rom.. and re activate my data network but still not working

Well, I tried re-flashing the kernel, with no results. My next step is gonna be flashing a new modem unless someone else has a better idea.

Try fixing permissions. Also are you sure TMOB didn't cut your data for some reason?

I'm not on TMOB. I had to unlock my phone so I could get it on a local carrier. It worked fine for a day, then just quit.
Just tried fixing permissions; does not help.

Fixing permissions never hurts anything. It's good to at least once a week anyway. The next thing I would try is checking your APN to make sure it matches what your carriers settings are. Flashing another modem wouldn't hurt anything either but if the one you had was working fine I'd look at the APN setting first.

Stands for Access point name:
All Hail Wiki
You can find it under settings>wireless networks more>mobile networks>Access Point Names. You'll have to do a google search for your carriers correct APN settings. Just make sure they match if not hit left soft key. New APN and enter the correct info. Then left soft key again to save it. Then select it and reboot.

[Q] MIUI without data?

Hey everyone
i'm pretty new to the whole nexus s scene, as i've had this device for about a week now. I've rooted my phone successfully and i'm running MIUI's latest ROM..1.8.5 i believe. Now for the problem..
For some odd reason I'm unable to connect to my 3G network at all (yes, data is enabled in the settings, and set to 3g prefered/2g/only 3g..still nothing). Usually there'd be that green "3G" on top bar of my screen, but it doesn't show up. Now i rely on wifi to go online, which isnt a problem...but it feels like my money's being cheated if i dont use my data in occasional situations. I've tried flashing it again and again, but no results. I've flashed my phone to the Oxygen ROM, and the little 3G icon appeared, indicating that data is enabled (i forgot to actually check if it worked LOL). I haven't found anyone else experiencing this problem with MIUI, but i've found threads on them having some sort of difficulty with their data. If anyone could help me out, or direct me to a thread that has a possible solution, i would really appreciate it ~ thank you in advance.
Also, I'm on Fido.....if that helps.
I'm on the latest miui and I don't have that issue try toggling the airline mode to see if it will kick it in. If not really download the Tom and do a clean install see if that works.

hey, i've tried toggling the airline and it doesn't help. also, what do you mean by "the Tom"?
What happens when you try to connect with just 3G (what type of error do you receive)? Miui's stock 3G icon is white
Also, I think the other gentleman meant to spell ROM

He meant rom, auto correct changes the word rom, I think you need to wipe and reflash the rom.
hey, i've just tried reflashing the rom...and still no 3g ): !
also, when i enable data, and set it to 3g..there's no error. there's simply no "3g" icon on the top, and i can't connect.
Did u try manually inputting your apn? Sometimes providers don't push the settings to you
what exactly would i put in for my apn? sorry, total noob here :/
Go to menu>settings>system>mobile network setting>access point names. Do u have an entry there? You should. If not, you need to check with your network provider for the settings.
i've just tried putting in the APN settings (copied the stuff from the APN settings when 3g works on the oxygen ROM). is there anything else i havent filled in and should? cuz....it still doesnt work
Not really. Create it, fill it, save it, choose it and restart. Should work, it always did for me
How's the battery life on that rom
Seems ok to me. 3g uses alot of juice since the service is crappy in my country. Otherwise, best rom I tried
dang :/ still nothing... i've noticed something though. when im on my oxygen rom and search for networks..the option "Fido" pops up. when im on MIUI, the option "Rogers Wierless" pops up in the place of "Fido" .___." that may have something to do with it...
Same problem here on desire s.
When I try to change the apn setting I get a force close.
Cheers, Cor

Borked Data/14 toggle <solved. delete plz>

SOLVED!!!
did I check access point names entries, and make sure sure that the correct carrier one was present. Did I also make make sure that the data packets under mobile networks was checked? When u first install toggle, sometimes the data toggle is on but data is off
Don't know how to check access points etc. Packet Data is indeed on. the *#2263*# returns "Unable to process request".

settings > mobile networks > access point names
make sure u have the right one entered. eg. ltemobile.apn would be rogers, etc
I have siriusapplications.disabled.ltemobile.apn
well look at that. I edited the APN to just read ltemobile.apn, and voila... My data is back.
Any idea what would have caused the APN to edit? Virus? Yes, I download apps from the net. Mostly for trial, if they're good I buy them... sometimes.
EDIT
It was power control plus that edited the APN. Downloaded it from Mobilism, tried the widget, and uninstalled. Wound up going woth the GO Switch widget instead..
Just a heads up. Also, thx icenight! If you're ever around Barrie, I'll buy you a beer~
ur welcome. don't speak idly now, I live in Brampton but do come up to Barrie every once in awhile
I was so close to flashing a new ROM to see if that would fix it, a beer is more than worth the headache you saved me!

Can't restore forgotten wifi network

Hi,
I selected "forget" on one of my home wifi networks and there's nothing I can do to restore it back.
My phone: Atrix 2 ATT running stock 2.3.6
Thanks for any help
Manually re-entering the info is the only way. Once it "forgets" it forgets.

Tried that, it did not help. I can see a new network with that name but there is no signal
From other devices I can see and use the network.

Try a factory reset. I know it is a PIA, but most of the time, that fixes a lot of these oddities.
(1) Try *#*#4636#*#* then go to Wifi API, choose enableNetwork and enter SSID manually.
(2) Change some parameter of the wifi network (since this is your home network I assume it is under your control), last option being the SSID itself, but the pain is, you may have to update all your other devices.

WOW, that might be a painful way to go... try the factory reset before you go to all that trouble. I know it will be painful if I had to make a change to my SSID or anything that major on my netowrk, I would have to change my firewalls as well (2 checkpoint firewall one servers on 2 Sun ultra 10 servers). I know that is not typical, but even anyone who has more than 3-5 devices might regret having to go to each device and changing thier settings just to get thier phone back to seeing the wifi. when and factory reset should fix it.

Thank you all guys. My senses tell me that factory reset should do the job but since the ICS update is so close, I will save the trouble and wait for it, assuming it should work as well.
Just wanted to update everyone. I went on vacation and have connected to many different networks. When I can back, my lost network popped again on my device. My guess is it was hidden inside an internal queue, and once that queue overflowed it popped again.
Perhaps you can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51180156&postcount=2
This works on my I337 NI1 Unlocked Rooted. I uses ES Explorer with Root Explorer enabled.
I went to the "system " folder in the device, scrolled down until I found "build prop" then edited using ES Explorer Note Editor.
Greatly appreciated and high credit to dajumper's work !!

If you look at the post directly above yours you'll see that this was fixed over two years ago. Also, the link you posted is either dead or incorrect as it just goes to "404: page not found". That's not even to mention that this is the forum for the Motorola Atrix 2 so your post is in the wrong forum anyway. If you're just trying to get passed your 10 post requirement then please try to do so in a more constructive way. Thanks.

no mobile data with new roms

Hi, I flashed cyanogenmod 7.2 the other night and everything went great, no problems. Today I wanted to try a couple different roms, I tried Buglees Beast and Codename Android 3.2, both flashed fine but I have no mobile data on either of them. If I restore back to Cyanogenmod everything works fine. Does anyone have any ideas why this may be? Thanks
Just reflashed bugless beast and still same thing, no mobile data. Then flashed cm 9.0 everythin great. I would still like to try the other roms if I can get them to work.
When u flash another ROM and u will have no data connection, go to; settings/more/mobile networks/access point name/ and check if there is access point name of the network u on, if not y need to make APN for ur network.
you have to input your specific carrier settings, check it by going to the carrier website, there should be a section where they list all the necessary settings for the internet to work. you can input it by going to settings->under wireless and networks, choose more->mobile networks->Access point names->menu button, and click on more. after inputting, make sure you enable it. hope this helps. if still doesn't work, try a new radio.

Thanks, that was the problem. There was already one in there, but it wasn't the right one,. Got the info from their website and it works great. Thanks again.

And one more hotspot bypass, tested on Nougat, no MSL needed

Ok, quick and dirty yet once again.
This method is not so quick but it works and will keep through OTA updates. I don't know who originally came up with this but this is where i found it so my credit goes to @Sczar for his post

OK, here we go. First go here and root your phone( you can unroot when you're done):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-s7-edge/how-to/sm-g935p-spr-root-nougat-7-0-data-t3568780
@godpowerrr is always around to help.
Once rooted open up a root file explorer and navigate to /efs/imei/ and open the file "mps_code.dat " with a text editor.
Change the SPR to spr (lowercase) and save the file. Once that file is changed simply use odin to flash the stock firmware, preferably with home_csc to avoid losing your apps and settings.
Once you're booted back up you should be able to use the ##3282# dialer code and select view, then APN Settings. At that point you should be able to simply tap on the APN and add the dun to default, mms line. don't forget to click save after you edit each APN you add it to. At this point you have some different features but you lost your wifi calling and gained video calling. You're free to keep it this way if you like. if you want wifi calling and the normal setup continue on with the next few steps.
Once you double check the changes took, simply re-root and change the file contents back to uppercase. After you save the file re-flash stock firmware with home_csc. This will restore wifi calling and anything else that was missing. At this point you're now on stock non-rooted with your tethering APNs. If you wish to remain stock with tethering stop here, you're all set.
From here you can either do your OTA or root, either way this will keep through the root or OTA.
Special thanks to @Sczar ,
I would try this but i have hotspot on my Sprint plan :/. But I trust your words because you've helped me a lot and taught me things i didnt even know. I'm sure it will help others.

It sounds like you're asking how to check without sprintzone if your data is showing up on the hotspot data of your plan or just normal data use. if that's what you're asking i assume you could check that online in your account details or call sprint and ask. I've never had the hotspot on my plan so i'm not really familiar with how it all works. If that is what you were asking i'd be interested in knowing as well.

Ehh sort of. I guess what im asking is does your fix cancel out using mobile data which ends up charging if exceeded. And if it does, how do you verify or how are you verifying atm? Simply asking because ive tried some hotspot bypass' before and it was using my mobile data. Unsure hows this works, thx

My best guess would be that it doesn't affect the hotspot plans data usage based solely on the dun method being used to bypass Tmo hotspot limit. I would like to see a verified answer from someone that actually has a hotspot plan. [emoji6]

Let's say you're already rooted and plan to stay that way, do you think it possible to change this file (SPR to spr)>reboot>change APNs>change file back? Or is the flashing to a stock Rom needed after the change?

I think it may be possible with another carrier but I think our packages that we disable keep this from seeing the change after a reboot. I haven't gotten any response about another carrier so I have no idea how it works for them. The flashing seems to be what triggers the system to see the change. If you use the home_csc when you flash you don't have to re-disable packages, re-install apps, or set your phone back up. Honestly I don't have the time to check package by package, with a reboot after each one, but I would encourage anyone with the time and patience to give it a try. Worst case Ontario you'll have to re-flash stock anyway. The original method doesn't usually take more than 10 minutes and lasts through updates.
