Omnia 7 unbranding/interop questions - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all !
I've had my Omnia 7 since it came out, and never got the chance to unlock it or anything. I recently changed operator (Orange Fr to Free) and like a lot of people can't receive MMS (i can send them though) and sometimes have to restart phone to regain internet access, after looking around a bit on the french forums a lot of people are unlocking their phones to be able deploy a kind of network profiler app (i think).
I'd like to be able to do this, and at the same time get ICS and anything else that would be usefull.
I've read through this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335452, but to be honest i'm not quite sure if it still works, and i would also like to know if there is anyway of backing messages and any other useful stuff before doing the first steps?
I anyone can help me, i would very much appreciate it, and also if someone knows of an easier way to solve my MMS/internet problem that would be awesome
Thanks
---------
Solved the inter op problem (managed to do it) and used .xml files for APN settings but still cant receive MMS.

Hi Rob
Great to hear you're sorted! I've finally managed to get all set up without the o2 bloat, but still able to do all the usual stuff (o2 wap, gprs, email, etc". Let me know if I can help you out with any of these - I know what a pain it was to get working and am more than happy to help.

{SOLVED} Vox to TomTom aka Bluetooth DUN

If this has been covered before and is known to work then feel free to lock or delete the topic
Apologies if this is common knowledge but I spent an entire day on this on Wednesday without any joy but have just managed to crack it and get my phone talking to my TomTom via GPRS and thus re-enable all my TomTom plus stuff.
Okay, so the key here is application unlocking the phone.
Because the Vodafone v1415 is still pretty new in the UK (and therefore I guess uncommon) all the instructions I could find refer more explicitly to the HTC S710 and it has been a bit unclear exactly how much or how little Vodafone have monkey'd about with it before selling it on.
I've managed to establish that they've done quite a lot! And it's certainly appllication locked.
I just went through the thread about removing a lot of the branding but the bit that didn't work was the registry editing as I just got Acces Denied. After a quick search I followed the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280710
And got my phone un-application locked. I suspect this is not 'unlocked' as in how most UK people find their phones to be SIM locked (not Vodafone incidentally) which is why I continually make the distinction.
After then successfully editing my registry so as to change the appearance a little I then wandered if it would have any impact on what I was trying to do the other day about the BT DUN issue (or lackof).
'Lo and behold I reinstalled the cab file (WM6_BT_DUN.cab) that I had found in a thread on these very forums, rebooted the phone and bingo, the TomTom then connected (which it did before), the phone gave DUN as a capability (which it did not before) and everything proceeded as it used to with my Nokia 6230.
You'll need to search the forum to find the thread with that file since I can't remember where it came from but it was a hot topic so I really doubt it will be at all hard to find.
I'm chuffed since that was a real show stopper and I was going to return the phone and cancel the contract but now in one afternoon I've got rid of most of the crappy branding and resolved the last issue with it
So, big thumbs up again to these forums and to offically mark the WM6_BT_DUN.cab down as working with the Vodafone version of the Vox as long as you unlock it first as above.
So, now that I've finally covered all the setup of my phone I can get down to some of the developy type things that I bought it for in the first place (well, free on contract but hey!)
Oh, probably worth noting that I did all this on an iMac too (with a little help from VMWare here and there)
The CAB is available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1351044&postcount=21
DUN
...does anyone know if the Cab files has been ammended yet to deal with the issue of once a DUN call is made...it keeps the connection open until the phone is reset?
In this case, Activesync via GPRS does not work ( get a message about "cannot connect whilst a voice call is in progress) and I;m also worried about the cost of the DUN call charges?

Can anyone help with this.
I use activesync to connect to MS Exchange at work for MS Outlook email. I was looking to install the BT DUN workaround on my Vodafone v1415 so that I could access the TomTom Traffic service with my TomTom GO520. If I install BT DUN will it break my GPRS connection used to Sync with MSExchange at work.
Can yuo tell me which directory you need to copy the CAB files to on the phone?

Issues after upgrading Wizard to BlackDiamond 3.1

Hello, all.
I just upgraded my Wizard (8125) to BlackDiamond 3.1.
So far most things are simply awesome.
But I am having a couple of pretty serious issues.
I hope you will forgive me for opening a new thread, but adding to a 48 page thread just makes no sense to me. ;-)
First, I am getting reports from the folks that I have called that I sound too loud.
I've read somewhere about how to fix this, but now I can't find it. :-( I stumbled across that issue while researching the upgrade path, but now that I need it, of course, it has disappeared on me! Can someone please point me towards a link for this?
Second, I don't seem to be able to do anything over the Internet via GPRS (EDGE). I can only access the Web if I have WiFi on. This, obviously, will not do for when I am out in the world. I am still on Cingular/AT&T if that helps. I noticed in Connections that I do not have MediaNet, but that is fine. I did not use their proxy server anyway. Can anyone help me out? I can't surf, send text messages ("The phone is not ready. Wait 15 seconds and try again.") or get emails (Send/Receive is greyed out).
Any ideas?
Other than that, this ROM is ruling! Who knew that an aging G3 Wizard could do so much!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Thanks,
Noon
Second issue resolved.

:head_shaking_disappointedly)
Been a LONG while since I did anything like this.
But I still can't find the microphone fix.
Anyone?

Phone not available after using GPRS/EDGE

Hi,
I'm not sure whether this problem was being solved/is resolved somewhere in this forum, but I wasn't able to find a solution to a problem I'm facing.
The thing is, that sometimes (not always) after I've browsed the web on my Vox, the phone seems not to be reachable on the network, i.e. if I try to call my mobile phone from another phone, I just get "The number you are calling is currently unavailable, please try again later".
This seems pretty confusing to me, since the phone shows that it is normally connected to a network and isn't reporting any kind of problems. But it really isn't able to receive a call...the only thing that works is to restart the phone.
Unfortunately, there's no way to tell if the phone is just fine and noone is trying to reach me, or it is stuck in this strange way...
Has anyone experienced simmilar behaviour/found a solution? Any help would be appreciated.
I'm running Dr. Gonzo's Rose v0.3 ROM by the way, but as far as I remember, it also was happening with other ROMs....
P.S.: I'm sorry for my poor english.
Hmm is there really noone else with these problems? Could it be a hardware problem then? Or anything specific for my Vox only?
I have this problem too - my vox sits mostly unused now

Please help!!!

I have a samsung focus s unlocked that i am using with family mobile whish is powered by t mobile. Everthing works fine and I only get edge speeds. Its my girlfriends phone and she really loves it except one problem she can send or receive Picture messages. Is there anything I can do to get it to work? I have searched everything I can find and nothing works. If someone could help me figure this out I would happy to send them $20 paypal. Thanks for any help
Is it that you have tried and were not able to send, or you did not know how to send?
If it is the latter, then this might help.

Sorry if that was not what you were searching for. Good luck.
Samsung has a network configuration app in their section of the Marketplace. Actually, I think they have two, one for second-gen phones (like your girlfriend's) and one for gen1 phones. If you use the app, it should be possible to configure your phone's MMS APN (which is often different from the data APN) using that. I know that Simple Mobile is in the list for the equivalent HTC app...
If that doesn't work, it *is* possible to change the configuration manually, but it will require some hackery. Has the phone been interop-unlocked (using WindowBreak, most likely)? I don't know what the correct provisioning info for Simple Mobile is, but I could probably pull it out of my HD7 if I had to.
