That guide is for the vibrant and will not work with the sgs4g so make sure you know which one you want. If you have the sgs4g look in the general section for lumins heimdall guide and follow that

After following kkrraazzyy 's instructions for rooting my Galaxy S I9003 which, according to the comments, seemed to work for a lot of people, I came across a problem.
After selecting the pit file, putting my phone into download mode, connecting the usb, and noting that the COM was recognized by Odin, I clicked start.
The process was running smoothly until it reached the Reset phase. At this point the phone screen's "Downloading" image went blank and has remained blank for a while now.
Help, Please!!
Odin is not use to root..Odin is for flashing firmware..
To flash firmware, follow the guide by Misledz here(Gingerbread only)..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133787
For root, use CF-root by skin1980(For xxkph & JPKP5 only)..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201062
For other froyo version, you can search from this forum..All guide is there~..
I followed the instructions but I'm still getting this blank screen once it reaches the reset! I don't think the phone is booting properly (or at all perhaps)...
Okay so basically here is the problem:
I wanted to root my Samsung Galaxy S I9003 (Build JPKC2). Unfortunately for me, I ended up flashing it instead of rooting it. I used Odin and everything was going smoothly (little did I know I was flashing not rooting) then when it came to the reset phase, my phone screen went from the downloading mode screen to a blank one.
Can someone please help me and tell me what to do?
Also if you need anymore information, please feel free to ask; just bear in mind that I can't access anything on the phone because it doesn't turn on.
LOL !!! u put the file in the PIT location !! lol.. just download kpe and kph and flash using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133787

it is simple man..
step:
1- Flash XXKPE file, put all the file in the required box in Odin v1.83 then
1a- 3 check box are CHECK!
2- Flash XXKPH, only 1 required box needed which is PDA.
2a- 2 check box are CHECK!
root
1- Flash CF-Root kernel in Odin v1.83 under PDA.
finish
look the instruction given by member above..

There are 2 method:-
1- CF-ROOT-XXKPH-05.09.2011.tar to flash using odin v1.83 under PDA
2- CF-ROOT-XXKPH-CWM_manager-05.09.2011.zip to flash using ClockWork Recovery
u can find this on 2nd post
thank you! but where is the second post?
lol same thread just u give me before..under 1st post is 2nd post
oh! sorry about that.. thanks
so if I'm using odin i just put CF-ROOT-XXKPH-05.09.2011.tar into the pda and run it?
and that should fix my whole problem, including the boot issue?

maybe u should re-flash again from xxkpe then xxkph..make sure u do the right step..
this is my video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l6hTuWWjLE
the video looks very helpful but do i put the xxkpe file in pit, pda, bootloader, phone, AND csc? All of them with the same xxkpe file?
yes..put all the xxkpe file in the required box.. put it all together..3 check box there should CHECK. hit start button and wait until boot into the system. then turn off your phone and go to downloading mode again
then
flash xxkph file, which is only 1 file and put it in the PDA..Re-partition should UNCHECK!
hit start button and wait until reboot into phone menu.
after that, turn off ur phone again and go to downloading mode and flash CF-Root
download the XXKPE and XXKPH here:-

Hi,
I have a i9003 that ran on stock 2.2.1 ROM and I've been having serious SOD problems.
Updated to 2.3.5 ZHKPD last night using KIES. The update was successful but gave me screen blackouts during calls (screen and buttons turned all black whenever I start a call. I heard voice but was never able to turn on the screen again) in addition to SOD problems.
I have then downloaded Odin 1.83, and "I9003ZHKPD_I9003ZZHKP9_I9003XXKPM_HOME.tar" from here and tried to flash my phone again after reading a lot of guides on this forum.
I got a "Can't open the specified file" error from Odin (see attachment). Now when I turn on my phone all I see is a picture with a phone and a computer.
Was the re-partition cause of the problem?
Can someone here please let me know what I can do? To get 2.3.5 back into my phone?
Thanks in advance.
Did u flash XXKPE beefore flashing ???
If you have then try downloading the firmware from another source
I haven't - the "I9003ZHKPD_I9003ZZHKP9_I9003XXKPM_HOME.tar" file is the only one I tried to flash.
It's phone from Hong Kong and I do want to keep something from the stock firmware, such as the Chinese input.
What do you suggest I should do next?
flash it again from xxkpe with the step "re-partition"
Thanks. Did you mean I should first flash it with the "I9003XXKPE" file here?
Will I need the PIT file, and after XXKPE I'll have to flash ZHKPD right?
Well, the only question is: Can you come into download mode?
If you can, just flash KPE>KPD and everything solved.
If you can't get a jig or go to service center.
Thanks. Did you mean I should first flash it with the "I9003XXKPE" file here?

should i flash it first to DXKF1> DXKP9?

I used odin a thousand times and it never failed, you must be placing the CSC, PHONE, PDA and BOOT files in the wrong place... Or maybe you didn't use the latona file?

Don't panic.
Your phone is soft-bricked.
Just flash any stock rom(preferably XXKPE) via ODIN and you are good to go.
Get XXKPE from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1004647
Follow the guide here carefully: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133787
Very clear instructions.
Should not be any problem.
Guys, dxkp9 is a single pack, u cant use pit file.
Now u have to flash dxkf1, than flash dxkp9

Hello XDA!
I have a S3 I535 bricked on the "downloading mode", no matter what I do it always ends on the download screen, no way to access to recovery. I have tried with Odin, Heimdall and all advices in this and other forums.
The error is always the same:
Heimdall
=======
Without repartition:
ERROR: Failed to receive PIT file size!
ERROR: Failed to download PIT file!
With repartition:
ERROR: Failed to confirm end of PIT file transfer!
ERROR: PIT upload failed!
Odin
====
With and without repartition:
<ID:0/010> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/010> There is no PIT partition.
In the phone: "Odin : flash read failure"
I'm using the right SCH-I535 PIT file (16Gb)
As I understand, these programs need the PIT information to write at the right address in the memory map of phone. Right? But for some reason my cell can't provide it or change it. However there are ways to "read" the PIT file and get the "base address" for a specific partition. The question: there is a way to force Odin, Heimdall or fastboot to flash a particular image partition to its known address?
Something like this:
heimdall flash --recovery recovery.img --base 0x1234abcd
Is it possible, would it works and solve my problem?
Thanks!!
what tar.md5 are you trying to flash? I hardbricked one of these a while back and had to use the debrick.img to fix it, but if you can get to DL mode, then you shouldnt be THAT boned... yet...
