it would be much easier if you used a PC, but if you don't have access to one then try this:
*Edited instructions so that you won't have to use ROM Manager and have them all in one single post*
1) Root your device with this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
2) Install 3e modded recovery as shown here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y09p-J_g_Rg
-just copy recovery file to /bin using Solid Explorer or ES File Explorer (both free).. skip the ROM Manager part.
3) Install cwm by using method 1 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107881
from this point, you should be ready to flash custom roms through recovery. I would recommend jumping from versions one at a time (froyo -> GB -> ICS) just to avoid any errors.
Be aware that flashing ICS will leave you with a rainbow recovery since you won't have gingerbread bootloaders, which can only be flashed from download mode.
Hope I was able to help you! PM if you have any doubts
I advise to look at the Super ISET page by our own bigjoe as opposed to using ROM Manager. This is due to the fact that ROM manager bricks infuses a lot.
Just for safety's sake? :$

I don't like ROM Manager at all, but since he does not have access to a PC I figured that would be his only option..
Edit: moved the instructions to post #2 to avoid any confusion.

uumm.. ok i undertood everything, but im stuck tryin to paste the recovery to the bin file cuz it says error when i used the solid explorer but when i tried with root explorer n it says that i cant do it cuz my phone aint rooted... thats where i get confused cuz thats the hole purpose!! :/ what should i do now??
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Did you already do step 1? There's where you root your phone. Without root you don't have write access to /bin which explains the error when you try to paste.
Edit: be sure to follow the instructions on my 1st post (post #2 of this thread). I edited those to guide you through complete process to acquire root & cwm without using Rom Manager

I agree

ok wait... ur 1st post says that i have to root my cel with what?? cuz it only haves the youtube video of intalling the recovery file n thats where im stuck... i did step by step about 5 times and it keeps giving me the same results... btw thanks for helping with all of this...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
To root you must use an app called gingerbreak. I gave you the link for the app's thread; just download the latest version listed there, install on your phone and run it and should have root !
Sent from my sweet and buttery Infuse
well the link doesnt show dnt knw why.... btw my phone aint gingerbread, does it matter??

That's weird.. well here it is again:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
It says it shoud also work for Froyo
Sent from my sweet and buttery Infuse
sorry about that... seems that when reading from the xda app it doesnt show... but when in the web view it does... let me try the gingerbreak...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
seems im screwed!! gingerbreak didnt work... it stays rooting running exploit for ever!! i left it there for about 20 mins and nothing just lime z4root... ive tried z4 a cew times n never worked... i tried gingerbreak with a galaxy s 4g i had and it didnt work either... ive seen youtube videos of people rooting these same phones n it takes about a minute or 2.. i dnt knw why it doent work 4 me... this is frustrating!! :/
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
That's bad news :/ well that means you are gonna need to find a Pc to root it and then you can move on with the rest.
If you do get access to a Pc, consider using Odin which would allow you to jump to a GB + rooted + cwm + gb bootloaders all in one flash.. that would save you some time and get rid of rainbows if you move on to ICS
Sent from my sweet and buttery Infuse
ok... i will try it... thanks for your time and tryin ur best!! i was reading and i think this phone has NAND lock... im not sure but i think ill have to use unrevoked to root it. :s
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
I never had heard of that before but I did a quick search and it seems our phone is not nand locked. If it was, we wouldn't be able to obtain root by using superoneclick, which is what you would be using to root yours

I was searching online for an extended power menu mod and I thought I had found one. I downloaded it and flashed it through CWM. But now, whenever I hold my power button in order to bring up the power menu, it soft reboots immediately with no prompts. If someone could help me, that would be greatly appreciated as I know the greatness of the xda community. Thanks in advance.

Try Reflashing the ROM
But remember to always create a backup.
do what u been advised by post above mine.
btw did u flash the right Mods for ur rom?
I will try reflashing the ROM. And the mod wasn't ROM specific. It said it would work on any JB ROM.
Sent from my Full Android on Crespo using xda app-developers app
So I reflashed the ROM and my power menu is now working properly. Thank you. But before I flashed the ROM and now, still, I'm having a problem with my xda app uninstalling itself multiple times.
Also, I have a file that I downloaded from my ROMs forum called jb-framework.zip. There was no explanation given as to what the file does. Could someone explain it to me please?
And finally, if someone would be kind enough to create me a mod for an extended power menu I would be grateful. Or give me information on how to do so myself. Thanks.

I do believe that I have tried this mod before, but when flashing, it gave me an error. I'm currently backing up my phone, and as soon as it finishes I will flash this. I'm not sure if my phone is the NS4G or if it's just an NS. Model number is i9020a or something like that. Can't check at the moment. Lol.

What I understand from that is that I have the wrong model and build number, correct? Meaning this is solely for the NS4G which I don't have. Lol.

I'm not necessarily new, per say. I've rooted an Atrix 4G, rooted/flashed custom roms on an HTC Inspire 4G, rooted/flashed many custom roms/modems/kernels on a Samsung Captivate, rooted/flashed ICS/kernel on a Samsung Galaxy Note, rooted/flashed multiple ICS roms/kernel/modems on a Samsung Infuse 4G, and as of right now, rooted/flashed two or three JB roms/two or three kernels/and one or two modems on my Nexus, and rooted/flashed firmware to a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.

Thanks a lot, I didn't like the CM9 boot ani too much lol this was such a nice change!
But beware for anyone who gets really paranoid like me: It will take a while to boot up the 1st time. I was absolutely convinced I was in bootloop before 4 minutes was up lol. So what I'm saying is, it works and you should let it run for 3> minutes before you come running here to say you're bricked. Saving some people some embarrassment
Thanks again, I love the glowing x lol

1: The system copies bootanimtion.zips from the /data/local folder into /system/media
2: And some people don't like to touch system folders so this is a safe alternative for them
3: This is also the standard way to instruct someone to replace there boot animation
Also how is replacing then having to change permissions simpler then just pasting and letting the system handle replacing and changing permissions?

Ask jim or alteredlikeness before you do this!!!
Seriously ask first!
If I understand correctly jims script and or alreredlikness's mod to said script leaves the mbm intact. You might be able to use their stuff for ics fxz back even though your only still on gb and never been on ics. The script way is simple IF they tell you it would work. Ask them personally first though. Good luck.

someone please tell what this 44mb ota update that became available this morning entails.
any way for someone with twrp recovery to install this ota since twrp interupts the update? through kies? or, any way to install the factory recovery back after having installed the twrp recovery?
If it's only 44MB, it's sure as hell not JB, so I wouldn't worry about that.
You can always get the stock recovery back by using ODIN to restore back to stock if you really want to see what the update is.
If you search, I'm sure you'd find out what is. I know its been posted already. All I can remember for sure is the new baseband.

i just found one stock recovery tar and will flash it using odin ( it is from an old post, july of this year ) and at the download link for the stock recovery tar md5 file it said it was not tested - so not certain if it is safe to not brick. stock recovery tar md5 for skyrocket is hard to find. that is what sucks, once you load a custom recovery, hope it is possible to get back to stock recovery.
thank you.

You could get it from sammobile.com too I believe. Just make sure you get the one for the SR.

it ensures you have all the att apps and seems to be a new radio ( which is the part i would like to try, maybe it will use less battery power and/or get better coverage connectivity to lte cell towers )
Don't want any updates
I don't want the update. Anyone know if there's a way to avoid the nag screens from the carrier? Or if they will eventually just go away on their own?

root the device, they'll go away.
But I'm not aware of getting rid of the prompts on stock. Maybe accept it and do not let it complete the update download?

It is rooted...so from what I've been reading it won't actually be updated. But I don't want to be faced with nag screens from now till I buy a different phone either.

How?
I let it download, and then because I'm rooted it failed as expected, which is fine because I don't want the update anyway. I just rebooted and it seems to have stopped the nagging.
Anyone know how to turn off device management? Or to where the pkg was copied so that I can rename it?
Thanks

I have Titanium Pro and froze DM. Thanks sent.
Wish I had known to do that before I let it download.
Any idea where the update was saved to, and what it is named? I'd like to get rid of it.
I can't remember where it saves to. Maybe you can find it with root explorer.

I have not seen what it updated. Been running factory since July.

Greetings !
So I bought Samsung Infuse 4g a few months ago from Canada via ROGERS. I really loved the phone but with time its stock ROM became old. I didn't liked it as ICS and Jelly Bean came in to the market.
Hence I searched the internet specifically this website ( I am NEW here :silly: ) and found many custom ROMS, however almost all of them were regarding AT&T Infuse 4g and NOT Rogers Infuse 4g. My build number is UXKG3 .
I really like CM10 and AOKP ROMS... Please help me.
People who have ported AT&T Roms on Rogers Infuse end up having big problems. I don't want to end up like them.
Please help me.
Devs should see this. :good:
Thanks in Advance ! :highfive:
The rogers infuse is technically the same as the at&t one.
You can use any rom you want.
Just be sure to follow the necessary steps to upgrade to JB.

Follow the directions in the roms op exactly and you shouldn't need to connect to a computer at all. When you get to jelly bean you can download and flash the Rogers modem from this thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31097259
Last one on the list. Good luck. Once you get to jellybean you wont want to go back.

First of all Thanks.
Secondly I am quite noob in this. Never rooted my mobile phone. Can you explain me the MTD's and which one I will require if I want to run Scotts CM10 4.1.2 (JB) on my Rogers Infuse 4g ?
Lastly .. I have a bigger problem that this that my smartphone doesn't connects to PC. I installed Kies and everything but still it wont connect. I am pissed ... :S
Help ME
MTD is the file system used on JB roms. Your phone will be converted to it the 1st time you flash the rom.
You will 1st need to root & install cwm recovery. You can find specific instructions on how to do this on a rogers by doing a quick search.
Uninstall kies and try manually installing the drivers found in the iset thread.

In my experiences the infuse is just a pain in the arse when trying to connect to the computer for the first time. Seriously if you don't have the perfect cord, the proper USB port on your computer, and the sun isn't at the proper angle in relation tovthe orbit of Saturn it just wont freaking work. On that note, in addition to manually installing the drivers you could try a different USB port, a different cord, a different computer, or maybe a wizard.
The guide to rooting a Rogers infuse is in the sticky section of this q&a thread and the iset (infuse super everything thread) is in the sticky section of the infuse android development thread.
First time rooting I would suggest playing around with flashing gingerbread roms. They are safer for lack of a better term. I don't mean like completely kill your phone safer (the infuse is incredibly hard to permanently brick) but easier to fix mistakes. If you screw up going to jellybean you have no choice but to Odin or heimdall back to stock. With gingerbread you aren't changing file systems or partition sizes.
I can't stress this next part enough- READ. EVERYTHING. DON'T SKIM. READ. THEN READ AGAIN. The more you know the easier it is. The fact that you are on an infuse means that you have the luxury of a very friendly community at your disposal. Most of the people here will help. Especially if they get the impression you are trying to help yourself.
Good luck and let us know I'd you have any questions. The iset thread is a wonderful thing full of tons of info. It can be overwhelming though. I check in multiple times a day so if you need help just holler.

at this point cm10 and paranoid are the best. the other roms are great truely but scott's fixed for torch doesn't work on aokp which others are based from. i'm not sure if other roms have working a-gps either. the gps on cm10 at the moment is fantastic.
I will say I love paranoid. It was my favorite ics rom and was for jb also. Then I swapped phones with my wife (we both have infuses) because she was having problems. PA just doesn't want to run on her phone without tons of freezes and reboots. So I switched to slimbean. I'm not having hardly any issues now. And as far as GPS goes its the only rom to give me a lock.

On at&t rainbow screen is caused by not having proper bootloaders. It isn't anything that's going to break the phone but it is annoying. Especially if you haven't memorized the cwm layout.

this doesn't make sense to me. the rogers infuse has GB from the factory and as far as I know there are no working froyo boot loader dumps to inadvertently downgrade.
unless maybe the person reporting rainbows was on art froyo and flashed a GB kernel without the rainbow fix. when he flashed the "rogers" version it was actually a custom kernel based on rogers with a rainbow fix. the rogers customers should not have rainbow problems that I'm aware of. if they do I'm not sure what's going on.
I don't know anything about Rogers. I was pretty sure they came with gb. I was just thinking he said he used an at&t Odin. Wasn't sure if it was possible to downgrade bootloaders by mistake.

it is possible but there is no Odin package with froyo bootloaders that I know of. there were issues with flashing boot loaders from a ROM dump. I've never heard of downgrading bootloaders on an infuse. it did however cause all sorts of issues on galaxy as phones where the boot loaders could be dumped and flashed and had all sorts of revisions bases on the build date of the phone.
when I launch download mode on my infuse an error occurs like can't access /csc/RWC/system'
and the p doesn't recognize the phone. it does when its fully on.
help meee

That image isn't of download download mode. That's the stock recovery. To get to download mode power off the phone. Hold down both volume buttons. Then plug in the USB that is already connected to the computer. You should get a picture of a triangle.
