Greetings !
So I bought Samsung Infuse 4g a few months ago from Canada via ROGERS. I really loved the phone but with time its stock ROM became old. I didn't liked it as ICS and Jelly Bean came in to the market.
Hence I searched the internet specifically this website ( I am NEW here :silly: ) and found many custom ROMS, however almost all of them were regarding AT&T Infuse 4g and NOT Rogers Infuse 4g. My build number is UXKG3 .
I really like CM10 and AOKP ROMS... Please help me.
People who have ported AT&T Roms on Rogers Infuse end up having big problems. I don't want to end up like them.
Please help me.
Devs should see this. :good:
Thanks in Advance ! :highfive:
The rogers infuse is technically the same as the at&t one.
You can use any rom you want.
Just be sure to follow the necessary steps to upgrade to JB.

Follow the directions in the roms op exactly and you shouldn't need to connect to a computer at all. When you get to jelly bean you can download and flash the Rogers modem from this thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31097259
Last one on the list. Good luck. Once you get to jellybean you wont want to go back.

First of all Thanks.
Secondly I am quite noob in this. Never rooted my mobile phone. Can you explain me the MTD's and which one I will require if I want to run Scotts CM10 4.1.2 (JB) on my Rogers Infuse 4g ?
Lastly .. I have a bigger problem that this that my smartphone doesn't connects to PC. I installed Kies and everything but still it wont connect. I am pissed ... :S
Help ME
MTD is the file system used on JB roms. Your phone will be converted to it the 1st time you flash the rom.
You will 1st need to root & install cwm recovery. You can find specific instructions on how to do this on a rogers by doing a quick search.
Uninstall kies and try manually installing the drivers found in the iset thread.

In my experiences the infuse is just a pain in the arse when trying to connect to the computer for the first time. Seriously if you don't have the perfect cord, the proper USB port on your computer, and the sun isn't at the proper angle in relation tovthe orbit of Saturn it just wont freaking work. On that note, in addition to manually installing the drivers you could try a different USB port, a different cord, a different computer, or maybe a wizard.
The guide to rooting a Rogers infuse is in the sticky section of this q&a thread and the iset (infuse super everything thread) is in the sticky section of the infuse android development thread.
First time rooting I would suggest playing around with flashing gingerbread roms. They are safer for lack of a better term. I don't mean like completely kill your phone safer (the infuse is incredibly hard to permanently brick) but easier to fix mistakes. If you screw up going to jellybean you have no choice but to Odin or heimdall back to stock. With gingerbread you aren't changing file systems or partition sizes.
I can't stress this next part enough- READ. EVERYTHING. DON'T SKIM. READ. THEN READ AGAIN. The more you know the easier it is. The fact that you are on an infuse means that you have the luxury of a very friendly community at your disposal. Most of the people here will help. Especially if they get the impression you are trying to help yourself.
Good luck and let us know I'd you have any questions. The iset thread is a wonderful thing full of tons of info. It can be overwhelming though. I check in multiple times a day so if you need help just holler.

at this point cm10 and paranoid are the best. the other roms are great truely but scott's fixed for torch doesn't work on aokp which others are based from. i'm not sure if other roms have working a-gps either. the gps on cm10 at the moment is fantastic.
I will say I love paranoid. It was my favorite ics rom and was for jb also. Then I swapped phones with my wife (we both have infuses) because she was having problems. PA just doesn't want to run on her phone without tons of freezes and reboots. So I switched to slimbean. I'm not having hardly any issues now. And as far as GPS goes its the only rom to give me a lock.

On at&t rainbow screen is caused by not having proper bootloaders. It isn't anything that's going to break the phone but it is annoying. Especially if you haven't memorized the cwm layout.

this doesn't make sense to me. the rogers infuse has GB from the factory and as far as I know there are no working froyo boot loader dumps to inadvertently downgrade.
unless maybe the person reporting rainbows was on art froyo and flashed a GB kernel without the rainbow fix. when he flashed the "rogers" version it was actually a custom kernel based on rogers with a rainbow fix. the rogers customers should not have rainbow problems that I'm aware of. if they do I'm not sure what's going on.
I don't know anything about Rogers. I was pretty sure they came with gb. I was just thinking he said he used an at&t Odin. Wasn't sure if it was possible to downgrade bootloaders by mistake.

it is possible but there is no Odin package with froyo bootloaders that I know of. there were issues with flashing boot loaders from a ROM dump. I've never heard of downgrading bootloaders on an infuse. it did however cause all sorts of issues on galaxy as phones where the boot loaders could be dumped and flashed and had all sorts of revisions bases on the build date of the phone.
when I launch download mode on my infuse an error occurs like can't access /csc/RWC/system'
and the p doesn't recognize the phone. it does when its fully on.

Also, I have a file that I downloaded from my ROMs forum called jb-framework.zip. There was no explanation given as to what the file does. Could someone explain it to me please?
And finally, if someone would be kind enough to create me a mod for an extended power menu I would be grateful. Or give me information on how to do so myself. Thanks.

I've rooted an Atrix 4G, rooted/flashed custom roms on an HTC Inspire 4G, rooted/flashed many custom roms/modems/kernels on a Samsung Captivate, rooted/flashed ICS/kernel on a Samsung Galaxy Note, rooted/flashed multiple ICS roms/kernel/modems on a Samsung Infuse 4G, and as of right now, rooted/flashed two or three JB roms/two or three kernels/and one or two modems on my Nexus, and rooted/flashed firmware to a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.

Hey everyone
I have been tiring to look up how to root my Samsung SGH-I896 that is on Rogers in Canada but have haven't been able to find and think that matches my phone info. I will list my firmware and other info if some can point me in the right way that would be nice.
Model = SGH-I896
Frimware = 2.3.3
Kernel version = 2..35.7-i896uxkh2-cl296008
Build number = GINGERBREAD.UXKH2
Thanks
I have the same phone and believe me it's not as easy as it is for the us users. Rogers actually takes code off the phone so that it's harder to root or unlock. I had to factory reset and use an at&t software instead of Rogers. After that everything was easy. Use one click root or anything like it

I dont recall having any issues with rooting my phone back in the day. I recall being able to use superoneclick to get the job done on stock gingerbread.
Although if you are planning on installing a rom on your phone then root isnt required. Just flash CWM and then flash a rom. The roms come with root already installed on it.
I have tried super oneclick and it hang up at step 7 but maybe iam doing something wrong. I will try again later tonight. Thanks alot guys

I have the rogers version, I've unlocked it to use Koodo as a provider and have also installed CM10 (runs beautifully!). They are the same phone, ours just does not say at&t at the top of it (Samsung instead). I used Superoneclick with both Froyo and Gingerbread stock Rogers versions and it rooted just fine. Just need to follow the instructions.
I think for Froyo you had to do some really stupid stuff, like plug it in and take it back out 2-3 times but other than that it always worked great.
Worked so well I even made a donation to the developer.
If it hangs on you, I would suggest reading the thread to see if somebody developed a method that works. My Froyo image wouldn't root so I read the Rogers captivate thread and somebody posted telling me how to unplug and plug it back in, worked well.
I think I might have screwed up... I installed the unzipped ROM onto my external SD rather than the zipped one... what do I do now???

it would be much easier if you used a PC, but if you don't have access to one then try this:
*Edited instructions so that you won't have to use ROM Manager and have them all in one single post*
1) Root your device with this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
2) Install 3e modded recovery as shown here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y09p-J_g_Rg
-just copy recovery file to /bin using Solid Explorer or ES File Explorer (both free).. skip the ROM Manager part.
3) Install cwm by using method 1 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107881
from this point, you should be ready to flash custom roms through recovery. I would recommend jumping from versions one at a time (froyo -> GB -> ICS) just to avoid any errors.
Be aware that flashing ICS will leave you with a rainbow recovery since you won't have gingerbread bootloaders, which can only be flashed from download mode.
Hope I was able to help you! PM if you have any doubts

That's bad news :/ well that means you are gonna need to find a Pc to root it and then you can move on with the rest.
If you do get access to a Pc, consider using Odin which would allow you to jump to a GB + rooted + cwm + gb bootloaders all in one flash.. that would save you some time and get rid of rainbows if you move on to ICS

ok... i will try it... thanks for your time and tryin ur best!! i was reading and i think this phone has NAND lock... im not sure but i think ill have to use unrevoked to root it. :s
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
I never had heard of that before but I did a quick search and it seems our phone is not nand locked. If it was, we wouldn't be able to obtain root by using superoneclick, which is what you would be using to root yours

well thanks anyway for all ur help bro!! take care

My wife's Infuse is currently on stock. She's interested in trying a custom ROM, but my research indicates that there are a lot of tethering problems with current ICS and JB roms for the Infuse. The ability to tether (mobile AP) is vital for us. We pay for the tethering plan on her phone and that is our home internet connection as neither cable nor DSL is available where we live.
Can someone recommend a good "daily driver" Infuse ROM that is stable, lean, with working tethering? ICS would be awesome, but GB would suffice.
The best way to know is to test them. Cm10 latest build has tethering fully working as of latest build.
GB should be the most stable, but JB has been great for me, plus it is amazingly fast.
Look in the OPs for what is working and what is not, and for screenshots, and that should give you a clearer idea.

I don't tether so I'm not sure which is best for that but might I suggest bigjoe2675's ISET sticky. You'll find great info and links to nearly every Infuse ROM here on XDA I believe. Like andros11 stated research and testing will get you the results you are looking for.

If it was my phone, I'd be all for the "download and test until I find one that works right" method. I have a Captivate and I flash new ROMs pretty often. But my wife doesn't want to go through that process. She's had Zeus and CatyRom previously, but had issues with them and just wanted to go back with stock and "quit messing with it."
I have looked through the threads and typically see something like this:
What Works?
Almost everything that works on ICS!
What Doesnt Work?
Same things that dont work on ICS..
Click to collapse
That doesn't really tell me much. Trying to research what does and doesn't work in ICS lead me to discover that tethering was one of those things that "doesn't work."
I believe it was written like that since CM10 was really meant for an experienced crowd who should know what worked and what didn't in ICS, but I definitely get you. Scott might want to make that part clearer soon.
Look in Entropy's CM9 for a complete list of what is working and what is not at ICS level.
If none of the issues would mind her daily phone use, then I would say to give CM10 a try and hope she doesn't come back to you later for help

Make sure to read Bigjoe2675’s ISET page. Going from stock to GB to ICS to JB and maybe back can be a real learning experience. Lots of opportunities to soft brick your phone. I have a lot of experience in doing that.

Emancipation. Everything works and is as close to perfection as you can get. I was on uniporn forever but never tried to tether so I don't know if it works. But it was super stable and my DD for a while. Now I'm on cm10 and loving it.

A lot of things work now I have tried looking for what does and doesnt. I would recommend cm10 whether its paranoid jb or unofficial cm10 jb. CNA seems fine also. I say those ROMs cause they are always updated . And if our moving from stock why not go all they way to jellybean its equal if not better then ICS. Just keep in mind if u goto jellybean u need to flash a ics rom first. Like entropys cm9 . I always flash it twice the first time. Then reboot and flash jelly.. just a habbit for me .Good luck on finding your rom

I have soft bricked my Captivate more imes than I can remember! I'm a pro at that now and can do it and recover without batting a lash! But soft bricking her phone makes me nervous. I'm trying to do the research but the minor differences leave me a little unsure. I think I would like to put her on CM10.
She is on GB (2.3.6) right now (not rooted and no cwm). I need to flash a kernel from post 2 or 3 of his thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
Then I can flash Entropy's CM9 from this thread, right?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601844
How does "firmware" differ from a "rom"?
After that just flash CM10 from this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776129
Following all directions closely, making backups of apps, data, efs, etc. That pretty much cover it?
Are bootloaders anything to be concerned with? On the Captivate, you have to have GB bootloaders before you can flash JB. Since she's already on GB, I don't guess that is an issue. I just want to make sure there aren't any caveats like that I might be overlooking.
That would be the right path. Just make to follow each Roms flash instructions and you should be fine.
Not having GB bootloaders on either ICS or JB would leave you with a hard to read rainbow recovery.
If you updated to GB using Kies though, you should already have them.
Sent from my sweet & buttery Infuse
I didn't use Kies. After trying some custom roms before, I used the Heimdall one click to get her back to stock 2.3.6.
Is there a way to see which boot loaders I have?
What company u have for service?

The only way i know is to flash an ICS rom and see if your recovery is all "rainbow-y" ...honestly I'm not sure except for that way.
My guess would be: if you're not sure if you do and you did not get GB 2.3.6 through Kies you probably do not.
Not having GB bootloaders will not adversely affect your phone operation just boot animations and recovery. It will look like static or rainbow colors. Some peope live with it and are able to navigate through recovery without GB bootloaders as a bad bootloader flash is one of the few ways to bork this phone...not always but it does get a little hairy trying to save it. The bootloader flash itself is not difficult as long as you read up and follow the instructions precisely.

For telling what boot loader or on. I see cwm black looking for gingerbread. Blue for ICS and nicer blue for jelly

Ok, here's my plan:
1) Backup. Titanium Backup, Contacts, EFS (backup script CWM-EFS_BACKUP.zip), etc.
2) Flash Stock GB (UCLB3 Heimdall - Stock_SGH_I997_UCLB3_Repartition-One-Click.jar).
3) Flash a second time to get GB boot loaders.
4) Flash Entropy512's DD Kernel (SGH_I997 Entropy Test Kernel-One-Click.jar)
5) Flash "Clean Wipe" script (CWM-Clean_Wipe_before_ROM_Flash.zip)
6) Flash Unofficial CM9 (cm-9-20120728-UNOFFICIAL-infuse4g.zip) - twice, wiping cache, dalvik, and formatting System before each flash.
7) If staying on CM9, flash gapps (gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip).
8) Flash Unofficial CM10 (cm-10-20120823-UNOFFICIAL-infuse4g.zip) and Inverted GAPPS (inverted GAPPS justinbean8-24.zip)
These are just the main steps. I have a folder for each step with everything downloaded and all of the instructions and links copied from forum posts. Also have some other things downloaded like Samsung drivers, an ICS Heimdall One-Click that was linked to a couple times, an EFS backup script, etc.
The ParanoidAndroid ROM looks really cool, but I think I'll wait until it's sync'd with the 8/23 update of CM10 so I know tethering will work. I may just leave her on CM9 until then, I don't know.
EDIT: I just realized... she's not rooted, so I'll have to do that first thing so I can install TiBu and do a backup of all her apps and data...
Plan looks just fine.
Any snags, you should be able to get help here.
Have read it is ok to re-install apps with Titanium, not a good idea to restore data. Let the ap do that when you run it.
Edit: Be sure you have the latest version of Java before running Heimdall. Get it here: http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
Looks good

To root, can I install Entropy512's DD Kernel from step 4 first, then flash the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip file I just downloaded? Or should I use a different Kernel?
So this morning i rooted my 5.0 player. Still has factory rom/kernal and runs on gingerbread 2.5 or whatever the stock firmware and os is. Anyyywaaayy. Its rooted. I have all in one tools and memory cleaner to optimize performance. I am usin an ics theme but i feel like im missing something. What kind of things can i do to enjoy the rootness on my mini tablet? Or could some of you guys help a noob build confidence about flashing. Idk i saw a mobile version of odin. Not sure what to think. I would love a jellybean os or something better than gingerbread.. It sucks. Lol what can i do now?

Well my friend, we do have our own forum, and recently we got jellybean on our devices thanks to medorval. But here is what you should do, first, get the newest version of Odin on your computer. I use 1.85 i believe, then go download and flash entropy's kernel, which is overclocked for speed and, well, tech stuff. If you need more clear steps, contact me or go to our forum. Just type in galaxy player in the search your device and it should pop up for the 4.0 and 5.0. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you can't find them, I can help.
That is only the start of what you can do.
DO NOT USE MOBILE ODIN. DO NOT. IT BRICKS OUR DEVICE.

Very helpful thank you! Im so strung out on information overloaf that some links might be even more helpful lol => with your pep talk im craving jellybean more and more. Thank god you steered me way from mobile odin!

Right now I recommend you do some reading on our forum and get to know the device. Sorry bout this but I will continue posting links tomorrow. I promise!

Lol no problems i certainly wouldnt want you strung out on account of me lol thankbyou for your help. Ill probably flash jellybean on.here in a few moments ill get started.
Good looken out friend and look luck with your academics!

Haha thanks. And just a heads up so there is no frustration, you have to be on an ICS rom to update to jellybean. For some reason, you get errors while trying to do it on gingerbread. And flash jellybean through CWM.
