HTC Sensation overheat and crash - HTC Sensation

Hi everyone;
I live in Izmir and the weather in here is incredibly hot, while was using my phone outside in the shade it overheat and crashed. Now, it wouldn't switch on and nor it would respond to anything when I put it in charge.
Any possible reasons and how I could fix this issue?

In New York, we had a couple of days which where about a 100 degrees and i didn't have any problems. First question is are you rooted? and have you tried another battery?

Nope, the phone has never been rooted. I tried but couldn't find a spare battery. Does the phone have to be switched on to be recognized by a computer as a connected device?

I live in a extremely hot area 105/110 degrees , that has never happened to me ( thank God) but I suggest trying a new battery. As heat can ruin the battery . You can get a good long lasting battery like Anker very reasonably priced. I would try the new battery and see if that helps. Hopefully it will solve the issue. If it does not solve the issue then its another problem.but it's defiantly worth a try to see if infact it is the battery causing the problem. I wish you the best and hopefully it will be a simple fix as the battery. Best wishes

Phone does not have to be switched on to be recognised by the computer. Please connect it then tell me what the pc recognises it as (android phone or QSHUSB_DLOAD, the latter is not spelt right I know)

Mysterious Shutdown

Hello all,
I'm encountering a very unusual situation with my Captivate. I use my phone as my alarm clock, etc and I leave it charging overnight since that's, well, the most convenient time to leave it charging.
This weird trend developed over the last three nights; my phone would strangely shut down over night once it was fully charged. Now, what is even weirder is that when I wake up and notice it is off I can't even turn it back on by using the power button. I have to remove the back of the phone, remove the battery, re-insert and only then will my phone turn on. Over this time period I have not updated anything or made any changes to my phone's settings. It's just.... happened.... which is what I find to be very puzzling.
Any ideas? Thoughts?
Thanks!

But regarding your question, that is a widely known problem for older captivates out there and your better off just getting a replacement from att.

Thanks,
Although my issue is that I am with Rogers in Canada and the day Robbers takes customer service seriously I'm going out and buying a lottery ticket!
The other problem too is that the only way to turn my phone on is to PULL THE BATTERY out first, I can't just turn it back on by hitting power.
I had Rogers replace mine for the random shutdown problem.

Download the app Load Monitor that app will keep it awake without really draining any battery, set it for monitoring, every 5 minutes....my phone use to shut down every at least 20 times a day or more, now never....

Actually, Rogers is pretty good with replacements if your phone is under warranty, I had both my old HTC Dreams replaced without question due to a bad e911 update and the other due to the slide out keyboard being slightly misaligned when in the closed position.
Rogers isn't all that bad when compared to Bell and Telus, they're the better carrier of the 3 when it comes to customer service, even though people seem to hate on them a lot.
One thing I should probably clarify is that the shutdowns only happen when I am plugged in to the charger overnight. When I'm not plugged in my phone doesn't shutdown randomly, which is why I am so confused.
I do have Captivate Keep Alive installed but it does Nothing for when you're plugged in.
Ideas? Thank for everyone's help so far!

HELP: Infuse overheating, Cant return to AT&T. Need advice???

I Baught the infuse on launch day off a friend of a friend of mine that was elgible for an upgrade. I gave him the money for the phone plus $100 for himself for doing it. The phone has been really hot the last few days. Yesterday it was at or around 100 Degrees F after i started using it (very light use). Last night when charging it took over 7 hours to fully charge. I turned screen brightness all the way down, have underclocked the processor to 800MHZ, what else can i do? Today the thing died on me in 3.5 hours and i didnt even use it... The screen was on for a total of 15 minutes. It was at about 105 degrees all day... i tried to contact the person who sold it to me to see if they could meet me at the store to try to return it for another unit, to make a long story short im unable to get ahold of them at all so im out of luck. What can i do? Is it possible to return to at&t without the reciept? I doubt it. I dont think the problem is the battery however, Ive take the battery out and its nice and cool, the hot area seems to be the metalic part covering the sim card right underneath the camera area thats hot. I can try to buy another battery but i dont think the issue is the battery. Im not sure what to do at this point. Any ideas on how i can cool the phone down? Or get a replacement unit?
It sounds like you have something running in the background that is forcing your processor to run at maximum speed (and voltage) all the time.
Try a menu->settings->factory data reset and dont install anything but updates, report back if it still gets hot.
Widget locker is being reported to cause issues fyi.
Might try contacting samsung. Maybe a battery problem. But sounds more like what previous poster said Runaway proceser

look in settings about phone for battery use. post results. it may be a bad app, it may be the radio needs to be reset. the radio's can put off as much as or more heat than the processor. if it says cell radio 50% then you just need to enter airplane mode and then turn airplane mode off.
*#*#4636#*#* and go into battery stats you can check all usage there lots of cool stuff

Thank you all so much for the responses, I have widgetlocker installed ... I will try that right now and report back. I've noticed too when I use setcpu after about an hour or so it would reset itself and I would have to go back in and reset it to whatever settings I had before

.......
What wall charger are you using? The correct specs wall charger for the phone shouldn't give you the choice menu for mass storage,... etc. It should just charge.
I found that if I used the wrong type of wall charger(even car charger) the battery would get very warm. Using the charger that came with the phone doesnt do this.
I think the phone seems to go into a usb mode but gets way more current than expected.
I would call samsung, they will honor their warranty, regardless of who purchased the device.
I had problem with htc inspire, which I have bought on Ebay and I obviously didnt have a receipt for it.
To make a long story short I took it to att and they have replaced it for me no questions asked.
I said I have bought it from a private party.
I'm hoping that all of the responses of guys here at forum helped You, but if not remember, to try Your last resource which is att warranty department.
But I would personally go to corporate store not call them.
When You buy anything warranty usually stays with the device not the owner.
I believe, there is stubborn application running in the background, have You tried taskiller?
Good Luck!

[Q] HTC Desire S Charging Problem

Hi All XDA Members I have a problem with my new phone (HTC Desire S) and was wondering if anyone could help me with what might be causing a certain charging problem, soo the problem...
The phone seems to think its being charged sometimes even when disconnected and is failing to charge the phones batteries through the standard wall charger or USB connection, therefore I am having to charge the batteries via taking the battery out of the phone and charging it in a separate dock I have purchased.
Sometimes as well after charging the batteries in the dock then placing them into the phone and turning it on the phones LED orange indicator glows and still thinks its being charged even when it has had a battery unpresent in it for several hours?
Does anyone have any possible outcomes to what this may be because of? Any help would be much appreciated?
The phone is running MIUI Android custom ROM with s-off.
Thanks,
Daniel
NOTE: I know I said "my new phone" but it is second hand and I purchased it with this problem hoping to come up with a fix.
have you tried other roms and experienced the same problem? or have u only ever had miui on it?
Hi, cheers for the quick response, and no I have tried multiple roms so far and all same problem.
Could it be anything to do with me getting cheap replaceable batteries for the phone as they are also not at the standard 1400mah but at 1450mah or should this not make a difference?
Cheers

this could certainly be the issue! so your saying it doesn't have a original htc battery? if i was you, the 1st thing id do is try a genuine 1. try to borrow 1 if u can from a friend or drop into a phone shop and ask. If it doesnt solve the issue atleast u havn't blown 30 quid on an original battery
you should try a genuine battery for sure! also their capacity is 1450mAh not 1400
check amazon uk

Just discovered guys that the batteries are actually 1500mah? Is this the problem and is their anyway to configure the phone to run with these batteries properly?
I am beginning to think whether it could be because of previous water damage if it has suffered from it before, but I would not know or be able to find out myself if it has been water damaged.
I was also thinking it could be this as maybe a possible short it happening on the main board and is causing the phone to think its constantly charging? Maybe?
Cheers Guys!

What makes you say that the battery is 1500 ? It's 1450.
HTC's own website says
Code:
[B]Power & Battery[/B]
Battery type:Rechargeable Lithium-ion battery
Capacity:1450 mAh
Hey guys (apologies I see this is a month old)
The issue Lowery91 has seems to be exactly the same as I had with my desire s. I'm breaking my heart trying to find out what's going on.
I have one of the original batteries that came with the desire S. The phone has these issues without being rooted (which I intend to do to see if I can amend it).
However for me it first started acting strange when I plugged it into a car charger.
Again sorry for rehashing this post but if anyone could shed some light on this I'd really appreciate it.

I'd suggest that you contact HTC support and get them to send you a replacement battery, explaining that yours is faulty, don't send your existing one back.
Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium
i think it is not a battery problem, i have two htc desire S and one today had the same problem, i tried to change batteries but when i put battery from other desire S i had the same problem, booth batteries working perfectly on second phone.
So i think it is phone problem. Something like voltage loss or etc. Because i thinkphone gets not enouth power to charge battery. But this is only my opinion.

Check this: It was a small pin inside that had come out. It connects the USB to the motherboard and is visible just below the battery. I fixed it in 10 mins with a bit of R&D. Now that you know, it will take you less than 10 seconds.
Having opened up the phone quite a few times now, hopefully i can give a couple of pointers towards this...
There is a small connector with flex cable that connects the USB port to the main board of the phone. To get to this easily, remove the batter, SIM and memory card. Also remove the 4 torx screws at the bottom of the phone and gently slide out the plastic clip that holds the battery in place. You will see this connector at the right side of the phone if its facing down. Just push it up with a small screwdriver and push it in on the connector again. Reassemble.
Hopefully this is the cause of the problem in the first case! Please do this with care..
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for bricked phones/broken usb ports, etc. Please do this systematically and all should be fine.

[Q] Phone shuts down?

My sensation has a very bad habit and I would like to ask you guys if you know why it is happening..
My phone shuts down about once a day and then when it is turned back on the battery has dropped about 20 - 35 %.
I have taken few screen shoots of the battery level and they are attached with this thread.
Im not using any other ROMs or anything like that. I have taken about Juice Defender which I used for about 2 weeks.
I know three others Sensation users and they have never experienced something like this.
I have asked the sales people and the technical people and they have no idea and say that this is prob some app that I have put on but I havent put anything on it that can mess this up.
Any solutions ?????
wow, I've never seen any android phone do that, have you tried restoring to factory settings and then trying it out?
It could also be something HTC needs to fix on your particular phone, so I might contact them about it.
First I wanted to ask if someone knows the answer to this but if I dont get any answers I will do that and see what will happen.
Try uninstall juice defender. I had it last time for 3 days. Nothing it do unless harm my mobile data 3G connection connect & disconnect & battery life goes crazy up & down!!
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
juice defender is not for gingerbread devices
yeah i agree i think your best bet would be to uninstall any apps that have to do with the battery and see what that does.
if that doesnt work restore it
I have uninstalled everything and i did that before all the images that I attached above. I have over 10 pic like the once above.
Thanks for the advice I will wait a little bit longer before restoring it.
Does it a shut down or a restart?
if it shuts down, so that you must press the power button to turn it on again, it's the same problem i had, and maybe still having...
This problem became stronger and stronger (did shut down 4-5 times a day at the end, but always with "low" battery, <65%)
I've returned my device to HTC and they sent it back with no failures found
after 3 days the problem appeared again. Then i bought a new battery (a original one), since then phone didn't shut down except one time, but that could have been the new kernel i flashed . So I'm very confidently that this was the failure.
My phone shuts of and does not restart. So I guess it might be the same fault as you had.
Yes I would take it back and demand for a new one or you can contact HTC and they will charge oh about $250. But first contact tmo customer service first and see if they will replace it with a new one that way you won't have to pay $250 to htc . Your sensation shouldn't be rebooting on its own oh by the way make sure you demand a replacement they may try to get get out of it good luck

I had the same problem, I recalibrated the battery 3 times one after another (is it english? lol). The problem has improved but continued.
So I tried that [MOD] Battery jumping and accurate reading Fix 2.3.x.
Since I had the problem that 2 or 3 times in 2 weeks.
If I buy a new battery does it will fix it?
(Sorry for my bad english!)
I have the same problem too. I tried everything. I tried factory reset , flashing new roms, talking with htc but i cant fix this. It still randomly turns off. I think only new battery can solve this. One guy said that he buys new battery and 1 month passed still have no problem. So i ordered anker battery. I hope new battery solve this...
I have a theory here.
Difference kernel will give difference control and usage of current and voltage signal. Therefore if you are using wrong kernel for a long time, maybe it will damage the hw especially small small ic which very sensitive and cause it to malfuction which cause shutdown or restart and in the end burn etc.
Just my 2 cent and please ignore me if im wrong.

Ok now your talking what kernel are you useing I'm useing a faux kernel v2.6.35.14-bricked -v1.2-gpuoc [email protected]#6 and lve had know problem's fast smooth you should check it out you can't go wrong with a faux kernel

Phone turns off after charger pull

hi, i have an inspire 4G bought off ebay. the phone was used for a month and was kept inside the box for about 6 months. now, i started using it again and after 3 weeks, the phone is now switching off immediately after removing it from the charger.
i took it to HTC store, and they say it is a mother board issue. which i doubt as the phone is workin well when connected to the charger. a battery change also did not help.
any suggestions? please help
Sounds like a bad battery. Battery may be reporting charged but may not be putting out the required voltage.

well, the HTC guy reportedly used a different battery. i live in India. anything can happen here. ANYTHING. he said it is a motherboard issue and it would cost $200 to fix it since the phone is not having any warranty.
but my question is, could it actually be a motherboard issue? i don't have issues using the phone hooked on to the charger.
You can pick up a new 3rd party battery very cheap from the net. I would try that first. Yes it could be the motherboard as anything is possible in India.
