Had the g2x since launch day, loved the speed, size, etc. Never had a single reboot (actually did once or twice while charging in the first few days), screen bleed and had fairly good battery life to boot with fairly heavy usage. What more can you ask for, right?
So fast forward to today...i was in the middle of typing a text and battery died, I was at 1%. So I plug it in, turn it on and then it got really hot and non stop rebooting only while on the charger. Taking it off the charger would stop the reboots, plug it in again reboot cycle again within minutes (no sound to warn me its rebooting, no start up animation).
Eventually when it was on the charger the battery icon looked really weird, it was completely white with 2 circular arrows in it, never seen that before, anyone know what that means.
After a while the phone cooled down and has now been charging for he last hour with no rebooting. I did call Tmo and they are sending me a new battery and handset.
I am unsure what to do, keep mine since it appears to be fine now or keep the replacement items. I am not rooted completely stock with minimal apps installed.
I really, really dont feel like setting up all my prefs again and reinstalling apps. One thing is for sure i am seriuosly considering the HTC sensation now. Had the MT4G before and it was great, so my perception of HTC is high.

The same thing happened to me this morning
Battery health status OVERHEAT
took off battery cover, i powered off through menu, powered back on through button
WHITE BATTERY REFRESH LOGO followed by media scan
Working as good as ever, and actually my battery life is a little better
Get a new battery asap. Yours is bad if it's overhearing during charge.

im kind of in the same boat as the op but not as bad on the overheating. how do i get a new battery? i bought from amazon and its past the return period.
My opinion of LG is really low. First the sd card slot died on my Optimus T and then numerous problems with my returned G2x. I hate to say it, but the grass is definitely greener on the HTC side right now. I will be checking out the sensation if permaroot happens.
yup, mine did the same thing. all was good for a month or so then boom my battery just freaked out. I wrestled with it a few days then last night it went from 100% - 0% in 6hrs while powered off. It's the battery. Get a new one.
Mine doesn't reboot...it just shuts off. Won't turn back on until I yank the battery. Only issue happens like once a day. But ill point out I'm now pissed Droid x gets gb Friday and I'm still using froyo...granted.by choice because I refuse to use a leak.

Not to change subject here but permaroot doesn't do much if the bootloader is locked. Gaining root doesn't mean custom roms or mods. You'll be able to use Titanium Backup but so what.
Also, back on topic. There are lots of reports that the batteries are bad and if it is over heating I'd definatly replace it.
Tmo sent me a replacement G2x after I thought I fried mine. I fixed it eventually by flashing several CWM recoveries. The replacement had nasty screen bleed. Needless-to-say I sent the replacement packing.
I was using my phone all day yesterday like usual I let my battery die all the way before charging again and today for some reason my battery is dying quickly.
Took off the charger at 6 am and it is now 11am and I have only 50% usually I have 70% or so. I hope my battery is not crapping out on me... I guess Ill find out in the next few days maybe this is just a fluke... I hope...

It is locked and HTC said this policy applies only moving forward. Which means future phones. There is no word about existing phones yet.

I am on my third G2x. From the day I received the last one(3 weeks ago) it has been rock solid(NO reboots-no screen freezes- no dropping data connections). Two days ago I bought a router and decided to use wifi in my home. Since hooking it up and running the G2X on it I find that I have reboots-screen freezes and oh yes data connection dropped (numerous times)I guess the wifi is just not meant for this phone. 3 weeks of happy usage and bam!! wifi in the house. I have also had apps changing settings without my doing so( never happened before wifi usage<) Also now the Gps is even worse than before.Been running it without the wifi and still getting the same issues now. Oh how I wish I had just stopped after the second one and asked for refund. This could (and probably will be eventually) a super super phone. I just don't know if I have the patience to wait . I just ordered an Asus Transformer which will be here on 5/31/11, maybe playing with it will soften my stance on how I view the G2x at this moment. Anyone else had the wifi situation?
I'm rooted with cwm. I have random freezes but it appears to only be random kernels. As well as only certain versions of android. Once the gb update comes out, I'm sure alot of our problems will clear up...

I Baught the infuse on launch day off a friend of a friend of mine that was elgible for an upgrade. I gave him the money for the phone plus $100 for himself for doing it. The phone has been really hot the last few days. Yesterday it was at or around 100 Degrees F after i started using it (very light use). Last night when charging it took over 7 hours to fully charge. I turned screen brightness all the way down, have underclocked the processor to 800MHZ, what else can i do? Today the thing died on me in 3.5 hours and i didnt even use it... The screen was on for a total of 15 minutes. It was at about 105 degrees all day... i tried to contact the person who sold it to me to see if they could meet me at the store to try to return it for another unit, to make a long story short im unable to get ahold of them at all so im out of luck. What can i do? Is it possible to return to at&t without the reciept? I doubt it. I dont think the problem is the battery however, Ive take the battery out and its nice and cool, the hot area seems to be the metalic part covering the sim card right underneath the camera area thats hot. I can try to buy another battery but i dont think the issue is the battery. Im not sure what to do at this point. Any ideas on how i can cool the phone down? Or get a replacement unit?
It sounds like you have something running in the background that is forcing your processor to run at maximum speed (and voltage) all the time.
Try a menu->settings->factory data reset and dont install anything but updates, report back if it still gets hot.
Widget locker is being reported to cause issues fyi.
Might try contacting samsung. Maybe a battery problem. But sounds more like what previous poster said Runaway proceser

look in settings about phone for battery use. post results. it may be a bad app, it may be the radio needs to be reset. the radio's can put off as much as or more heat than the processor. if it says cell radio 50% then you just need to enter airplane mode and then turn airplane mode off.

What wall charger are you using? The correct specs wall charger for the phone shouldn't give you the choice menu for mass storage,... etc. It should just charge.
I found that if I used the wrong type of wall charger(even car charger) the battery would get very warm. Using the charger that came with the phone doesnt do this.
I think the phone seems to go into a usb mode but gets way more current than expected.
I would call samsung, they will honor their warranty, regardless of who purchased the device.
I had problem with htc inspire, which I have bought on Ebay and I obviously didnt have a receipt for it.
To make a long story short I took it to att and they have replaced it for me no questions asked.
I said I have bought it from a private party.
I'm hoping that all of the responses of guys here at forum helped You, but if not remember, to try Your last resource which is att warranty department.
But I would personally go to corporate store not call them.
When You buy anything warranty usually stays with the device not the owner.
I believe, there is stubborn application running in the background, have You tried taskiller?
Good Luck!
Hi all
Sometimes, my Atrix 2 will just freeze when the screen is off, and obviously won't come back on until the battery is pulled and reinserted. (draining it at the same time). It seems to have happened the most when airplane mode was turned on.
I'm afraid all this battery pulling will make the cover loose.
Does it happen with anyone of you?
thanks
EDIT: I'm on 2.3.6 stock, non root.

I have never experienced such a problem... So it just freezes while it sleeping? I have one idea but it's kind of stupid, there is an option under display, that says lock in pocket. Try unchecking that, I've had other people tell me that their phone freezes up afterwards...
You might have to do a warranty exchange.

I've written "drain" but it's not much of a drain - from 100 to 60% in a whole night. A true drain would be with the phone going from full to empty in a couple hours and getting very hot in the process.
I think the phone locks up for some reason during sleep and the cpu never goes into low power mode. As far as I can remember, this has happened only when it was bedtime, with the phone already put in airplane mode, and never in the long standby hours of the day while I work.
I hope this has something to do with software, and not hardware.
(A warranty replacement is out of question, as I'm not from the US...)
I'll try posting in the motorola forum, too.
100-60 overnight is a bit on the high side for drain if you are not using the phone. I would do a warranty swap.

It's probably something to do with the CPU govener. Try rooting, install bootstrap, then flashing the deodexed version of 2.3.6 found here. Just be sure to flash as a backup by placing it in \sdcard\clockworkmod\backup\. Select restore in clockwork and it should be there.
See if that gets rid of the problem You don't mid rooting right
Yes I mind rooting! Sorry!
I was just seeking for your experience, to know if you did by chance notice this behaviour/glitch... you keep telling me to do an exchange but it's obvious it's not an option for me, as you can see from the flag under my user name. Otherwise I would have got me a new atrix already. (Because of other minor annoyances)
I once had an acer liquid that started getting nuclear-fusion-hot and discharged in 2 hours each time, without the software taking a hit. Now that was hardware related.
As to my atrix2, I am sure it's not hardware related, because it happens only sometimes and in certain circumstances. One time, I turned it off and back on 5 secs after and it was already frozen. No way, we're not talking of hardware fault here.
Thats major drain overnight! I leave my phone on overnight and generally get about 1% drain per hour.
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
WTF, either I can't speak my mind, or you don't read my posts!
It's not that I get a 40% drain every night. In fact I got it only once, last night, when I decided to leave the phone in deep coma after I found it unresponsive after just a few minutes it was turned off and in airplane mode (the time of brushing teeth and coming back to bed, FYI). In that circumstance I got the 40% drain, but otherwise i get a normal 5% drain like yours.
This thread is not on the battery drain, but on finding what causes the phone freezing while screen-off.
Thank you.
I have never heard of this happening on the A2.
When the phone freezes up, does it get hot at all? It's possible that your problem is hardware-related, but the only way to be sure of that is to make sure that it's not software-related...
It may possibly be one of the apps that you're using. If you're OK with it, then I highly recommend to begin with a hard reset. I write down all of the apps that I know I will need and then I reinstall them after the reset, then if I realize I need to use an app I don't have I install it.
Another thing to try is flashing the fxz. This will clear every single bit of data on your phone and reinstall stock 2.3.4. Then you can update to 2.3.6 and gradually regain your (necessary) apps as with the hard reset.

I think I made sufficiently clear that the draining was secondary to the freezing issue, and, in turn, that the freezing issue happened only sometimes... which, in my (surely flawed) understanding, is more often not the case than it is.
Anyways no problem man!

Not sure what fixed it. I have done a couple things since then.
1.) Rooted <- not sure how this could fix a problem like this.
2.) Froze several apps with Titanium Backup. <- This one makes the most sense.
I never use airplane mode.
The other user (dk-v1) says that his softkey lights come on while the screen stays black.
I don't remember about the lights, probably one time they turned on, but don't remember right now.
About the black screen, I'm not sure what he means, but mine stays black and with backlight off.
From reading the OP...I would suspect that it could be an app that is trying to sync while in airplane mode. I would try troubleshooting (uninstalling one by one to see if the problem goes away) apps that sync, preferably the ones you installed. But if it still persists do a factory reset and start over. Good luck man!!!
my wife actually started having this problem with her inspire recently. I tracked it down to the no led app she was using. deleted it and everything has been fine since. so your issues could most definitely be app related.

I never said it was the primary issue......u said this thread wasnt about the draining issue, but since u brought it up in your op and subsequent posts its clear it was an issue so when somebody responds to one of the issues you're having, don't be a douchebag about it by saying "thats not what this thread is about". Trying to insult me by insenuating I don't read before I respond is no way to show appreciation for my attempt at helping you. It seemed you were under the impression that a 40% discharge overnight wasnt a major drain so I shared with you my experience thinking it would put yours into perspective.
But apparently explaining my thought process and posting your own quotes for you to see how/why I'd think what I thought isnt enough to knock you off your high horse so I'm over it, carry on. If you feel the need to respond any further you can pm me, no sense cluttering the thread any further.

Ok guys let's see you work that voodoo that you do so well...
I got the idea to come here when someone of a T-Mobile support forum for Samsung Galaxy S 4G said they gave up on getting any help from those people but the guys from XDA were great and her phone has worked right since speaking with them. So here I am.
I own a Samsung Galaxy S4 G since July 2011, no real issues at all aside from a few random freeze ups from various programs. Well, a few days ago it starts turning itself off randomly. Sometimes it turns itself back on when I press the on button, sometimes I have to plug it back in, sometimes it says the battery is way less than it was right before it shut itself off. So I do what any savvy computer person does that's still a noob at anything technical- I learn how to reset the phone to its factory settings, delete all data and start fresh, figuring I had some bug in the system. This did nothing to help.
So I go online and discover all these different web forums with people complaining about the same problem. They all say the same thing, update the phone, don't update the phone, reboot, don't reboot, nothing fixes it. I even considered there being the "impossibility" of a loose battery connection and cut a thin strip of a business card to shove between the phone base to push the connection end tighter together.
The only place on any forum that anyone seemed to find an answer, albeit the answer was not discussed, mentioned coming here.
I apologize in advance if I don't immediately understand any technical details people may offer up as help, but please please please if anyone has an idea of how to fix this issue let me know.
Thanks in advance to everyone for their thoughts or suggestions :cyclops:
Sounds like it might be your battery. Have you tried switching batteries?

yeah mine did that too new battery helped... my my touch also had a problem with the battery staying in place; so try the business card trick and leave your phone on a flat surface with no movement and for a day without charging... Good ideas so far...
One more thing, I've noticed the few times today its lasted for awhile and then I go to show someone something on youtube, it will play part of the video like 30 secs or so and then 'blip' we're back to automatic shut down again. Does this spark any different ideas?

Ok so I mentioned before about the 30 secs of video and then dead right? Based on the theories so far, which I'm also leaning towards and praying is correct, I ordered a new battery, won't be here for 3-5 days, but I decided to test an idea...
I thought perhaps if its the battery, if I plugged in the charger, things that kept shutting me down should 'in theory' continue to work.
So I plugged it in and tried to watch the same video 'Cat man do' again and see if it died in the same place it had done 3 or 4 times before or if it would work on through. And guess what, it played through the whole video, no random shut downs.
So I believe this might go a long way to proving your theories on the battery are correct, also the battery itself seems to be slightly swollen through the middle, which could cause a host of different issues, not the least of which would be slightly changing its size and therefore its connection to the power cup link.
Still happy to hear any other ideas, but as soon as I get and test the new battery I will repost on here and let you guys know if that did the trick.
Thanks again so much!

Hadn't thought of that. Sure hope not though, been using this 32 gig sdcard since a week after I bought it and haven't experienced any issues with it during that whole year. Do you suspect anything on the sd card or just the card itself, just in case this battery issue isn't the culprit.

First back up your sdcard. Copy all of its contents to your computer.
I do this every now and then, because if my phone eats my sdcard, I keep all my pics and music.
Second, reboot to recovery: Advanced -> Partition sdcard
It should then ask about ext partition size and swap partition size. I usually set ext partition to 2048 and swap to 0. We don't use swap. ext is the sd-ext partition, but iirc, recoveries with voodoo lagfix will use that to backup partitions it is converting. It has to be 2048 or it will fail. Unless you will never use older voodoo lagfix (which none of my roms/kernels do) you can use any size you wish.
Repartitioning sdcard can take a while, so be patient.

I am 110% sure its your battery. Same exact thing happened to me battery was swollen and it kept randomly shutting off whenever I used internet based apps. I ordered a new factory Galaxy s 4g battery from amazon for about $8 popped it in and it stopped shutting off and battery life was actually way better. I suspect the swollen battery is caused by stuffing the business cards in the battery compartment.

I had the very same issue 2 months ago, and it was the battery. I think the telltale sign of what is happening is that when your phone reboots, it has gone from almost a full charge to just a few percent. The issue as I understand it is that basically, when higher processing loads are being placed on the battery by the phone, at some point, it cannot provide the level of requested power, at which point, your phone believes the battery has died, and shuts down.
I swapped the SGS4G stock battery (1650 mAh) for the Anker 1800 mAh battery, and had great success and no issues. Best part is, you can buy 2 of them (which includes a wall charger as well) for $20 bucks on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Batteri...2126170&sr=8-2-spell&keywords=anker+1800+s4+g (Free 2 Day shipping if you have Prime) Things are almost disposable at that price, but the Ankers have worked great, and not had the reboot issue since.

So I believe this might go a long way to proving your theories on the battery are correct, also the battery itself seems to be slightly swollen through the middle, which could cause a host of different issues, not the least of which would be slightly changing its size and therefore its connection to the power cup link.

And for the record, ANYtime your battery ends up swollen and distorted, you can guarantee that it's on its way out. At work a few years ago, had an issue where we were supposed to support PDAs and their battery life went down to seconds rather than the days they were supposed to last. Turns out their cells were swollen, sometimes enough to actually distort the back of their case. Replace the battery pack and get back to normal life. Without exploding batteries.
Random news story from 4 years ago with swollen battery pictures:

Great- thanks for the advice. Glad to hear from a few others as well that this should take care of the problem.

My God. I remember my g1. A new battery did not help its situation. I would charge, within 20 minutes, dead.

I recently flashed CMRex with Kejar's 4.1.1 gapps and was going about setting up my device. I got everything set up how I like with all the apps I wanted downloaded and running how I wanted them. I then ran the v6 supercharger mod that I had used on my past two roms with no problem whatsoever. After finishing the set up of the script, I rebooted my device and all was well. I went to browse on craigslist's mobile app, then I saw something I wanted to google, so I opened my browser. My browser took an ungodly amount of time to load my homepage(google), and wouldn't respond hardly. I couldn't get the touchscreen to respond. My hardware buttons did respond and I got haptic feedback from them, but no response on the screen. Eventually, after numerously pressing the home button, I got a message saying the browser wasn't responding, selected ok to close it, then back to the non-responsiveness of the touch screen and hardware buttons. And then another eventually later, after another multitude of home button presses, I got to my homescreen but everything was laggy. The most lag I have ever encountered with my device since I obtained it, not to mention that my device was beginning to heat up. So, I decided I would power off the device, remove the battery, let it cool down, and then replace the battery before powering it back up. Well, lo and behold, I did just that, went to power back up my device, and there was no sign of life at all. Tried to get into the bootloader, no response. Tried a normal boot, no response. Tried to plug it into the charger to see if it would charge, no response. Well, my girlfriend told me to leave the battery out for a while and leave it alone for a while before trying it again. So, I played some MW3 for about 45 minutes to an hour, repeated all the above, and still no sign of life. Can anyone help me out? (I don't know if this is supposed to go into the Q&A or here, so I just post here.) I'm so distraught at the possibility of losing my phone, that I'm finding it hard to cope at the moment. Should be thinking of ways to gain some money in order to purchase a new device or is there still hope?
what a long message.do you have any point form here?
i hope you solve the problem .
Do you have access to a separate charger? You can try charging your battery there and see if that works. Did you try connecting it to the computer? Maybe that will show some sign of life. Also, how old is your phone and did you over clock?

I did not overclock, I do believe that my clock speeds were at the kernel default, either 100/1k, or 200/1k. Not sure which, but definitely one of those. The only other charger I would have access to would be my mother's HTC charger, but I will try that and connecting it to the computer as well. Well, I'm not exactly sure on the age of the phone because I purchased it off of craigslist, but it's in great condition. Only had a small scuff on the top left corner, but I know that has nothing to do with the age of the hardware. ): Could it possibly be that my battery decided to die for some reason? I've been having horribly battery life lately. Granted, I had horribly battery life when I got the phone, but it's gotten worse and worse since then.
My Nexus S wouldn't start but gave a flash on the screen when the battery was first inserted. Just got it back from repair and it was a motherboard problem. Was looking at a Huawei G300 as a cheap replacement if the repair wasn't covered by warranty (which it was). Good luck!
Thing about it is, I bought the phone off craigslist so I have no idea if its covered by the warranty still. Should I try calling samsung and find out?

Sorry for my late reply! You could try, but u guess you can get a battery from Ebay and check if that solved the problem. Or if you have a friend who has one...

I'm the only person I know that has this phone. And I guess the battery will have to wait till I get a job, but if im waiting that long, I'm just going to get a new phone all together.

Testing the battery can be done differently, do you have a multimeter? Maybe your neighbours have one, it's a common thing. You can measure whether it has any power left. If you measure low voltage (below let's say 3400 mV), then it could be battery related.

Many reports on dead Nexus S with 4.1.1. Mine included after flashing CM10. Sent for repair 10 days ago and still waiting...
If you've got no warranty, perhaps time to buy a new phone? Bought myself a new Galaxy Nexus.
I would like to get a new galaxy nexus, but I have no money to do so. I'm currently trying to get a job and i m going to save up for a new phone. Im either going to get an s3, a galaxy nexus. Either one of those two or the new nexus if it comes out.
