[Q] What is the best stable rom for the Sprint Galaxy SIII? - General Questions and Answers

This weekend I had some spare time to try all the roms posted in the Sprint gsIII forums. Finding out that Im really not a fan of touchwiz, I've found that I'm really liking the Galaxy S fre3 1.6 rom that was posted by freeza. Its the closest thing I've found to compare to a CM9 rom. Only thing not a fan of so far is the Messaging Keyboard but hopefully after some more research I should find a better replacement. So to the entire GSIII community, what are your thoughts on all the current roms, good or bad?

The Blazer ROM is really good, but since you're not a fan of Touchwiz, that's probably out. That being said, I use the latest CM10 release as my daily driver. It's about as close to a stock Android ROM as you'll get, and it's blazingly fast since it's running Jelly Bean. There are just a couple very minor quirks that I don't even notice on a day to day basis.

I used blazerrom for about a week but never got a good feel for it until i install apex launcher to use with it. I didnt think there was a CM10 release for the Sprint GSIII yet..... I follow teamepic page but they havent updated anything in a couple weeks. Do you have a link to the download, I would really like to try an early release.

This is not a development thread please post non-development threads in general
Thank you
I believe the reason we aren't getting more is because you aren't making them.
So, stop complaining and get to work.

Whoa don't gotta be so harsh to the guy. If I remember that's the same reason gtgs post got locked. So he made a mistake ,big deal.
Infuse running infused v2.0.2.
To the OP - It was a legitimate question. To me, it's about development, so should be asked here, but the moderators say questions should be asked in the Q and A section.
When asked a 3 months ago, it was said the lack of ROMs was waiting for Rogers to get GB. That came and went without updates. Now the same is being said for AT&T GB, and we all know the timeline ATT runs on... the government minus 50%.
Either way, there aren't many ROMs for the infuse, so it's kinda just a wait n see thing. I'm sure the couple that have been around will stay around, but ATT's next killer phone is coming out this month or next, so Infuse is going to end up in the graveyard of cell phones past from a development perspective, IMO.
I don't think galaxy will bury the infuse. I think more people down the line will get the infuse cuzz prices will.be cheaper.

I disagree. It's like saying when the iPad 2 came out it made the iPad 1 more popular. Sure, there are some incremental sales because it's discounted, but 95% of the iPads sold within 6 months of launch have been iPad 2.
Just the nature of the beast, that's why when ATT releases proprietary releases it kills the users development ROM options :-(
The reason is because some of the more influential developers have begun looking down on "hey look I can deodex too" ROMs. I personally believe that's the problem. There should be more "hey look I can deodex too" ROMs. Without those, there is no development.
Hey, "hey look I can deodex too" propigators... read this. Pay attention here.
There needs to be more encouragement for those who want to make their own ROMs. It's a pride thing. If someone believes they did a good job, then they will continue to work and do a better job.
I whole heartedly believe that additional ROMs are required. When I get some time I will be making one. I'd like to wait until we get an official or leaked 2.3 source because I'm not a cutting edge type of guy. I'd rather work with a solid base and improve upon it.

3 Months ago this phone was but a twinkle it Rogers eye. Stop acting like a fool. As soon as the dev's (gtg) got his hands on the Rogers dump, Infused 2.0 popped up. Others are still working on their GB roms, or they are waiting for AT&T to release it. The CWM build is updated almost daily.
Seriously you have 1300 posts and if this one is any indication, none of them are worth anything.
Guys, calm down on the flaming. That being said, I don't understand the question (which btw, should be in the Q&A section). This phone is still relatively young, and we have bionix, infused, refuse, and now we even have ports for cm7 and miui. The development is about to kick off even more, and I can feel it already. Also, I don't think people who are new to development are afraid to post ROMs. I would love to post ROMs, but I need guidance on how to make them. For me, it's lack of the proper tools and guidance, not shame stopping me from development.

youre always welcome to make your own roms.
Im with btp i would love to make roms i love doing this stuff i make themes on a daily/weekly bases but i dont.lnow where to start

most important thing is we need stable roms.
used to have htc inspire and there were plenty of rom and more or less stable.
i feel infuse is not popular right now and Samsung/ATT are also to be blamed for delaying Gingerbread.
but i am counting on the devs who are working on infuse one way or the another.
This is exactly what I DON'T want to see in the development forums. This is a discussion for General, but it started out as a question, so Q&A.
BUT! It's in development. The discussion IS constructive (as long as you people keep playing nice ), so create a thread like this for discussing this in General and you can continue.

New to Captivate ROM suggestions

Good morning folks, as the title says, new to Captivate. Any ROM's that folks would recommend. Currently running 2.2.
I"m going to set this up for my son for Christmas and want it to rock. Using Simple Mobile. Are there any known issues with carriers other than AT&T? Thanks for any input. I appreciate it. Time to root this new toy
get ready for bashing...this is Dev section.,...read the rules before posting...
I would recommend all the roms in dev section, as they all are really good.
Next time ask questions in Q and A section.
read the new user guide and watch the video, then hang your head in shame.
DO NOT POST IN DEVELOPMENT UNLESS YOU ARE DEVELOPING!
People don't like when you ask which ROM is best, this is a general nono in the world of XDA. The best thing to do is just do a lot of reading and make the decision for yourself. This way you will have learned a lot of interesting things, and the devs will be happy as well. Hopefully not too many people completely tear you apart for this thread... If you read enough you will find what you are looking for. Good luck.
honestly though, ive just been using the latest leaked stock roms, rooting, removing bloat, and adding modified kernel and running ext4. been beyond happy
Anything from The Collective is excellent, but thats just my opinion.
Cyanogenmod is probably the most popular, a good choice as well
In before lock...
This is akin to going to a sports forum and asking "which team is the best?". It tends to just start a flamewar.
Granted, I think there are things that do differentiate some ROMs over others, and give them advantages... some people might argue it comes down to preference/priorities though. My priorities were:
- HSUPA (eliminating all I897 "stock" ROMs)
- Simple/stock-ish theme (eliminating a ton of other ROMs)
- Stability/reliability
For that reason, I've been running Apex for a while. Before that I was a fan of DesignGears' Captivate ROMs but he's moved on to other devices.
While there are people running early alpha/beta releases of Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" (ICS) ROMs as daily drivers, the ROMs still are a bit too quirky for my tastes so I'll wait a bit longer.
Well this is the Dev section as others have mentioned...but I know how confusing it is to get lost in this vast sea of roms...so I will tell you what I felt the best ROM...well apex 11.1 is the best in my point of view
I go bake a batch of Christmas cookies and y'all have a field day in Development - moved to general and closed.

[Q] Looking for a GB Rom... at last

Well, after many months of enjoying Cognition 4.4.4 (the most stable version of that rom on my Captivate i879, build 1007), I've concluded that I need to look at upgrading to GingerBread. My phone is getting so it's kind of sluggish, especially with some of the new App updates from the market.
So my question is, which of the GB Roms is relatively easy to load and most efficient for an aging Captivate? I really need smooth and fastish... but most important to me is BATTERY LIFE. I'm used to getting 24 to 30 hours on my baby with moderate use, even with its somewhat aged battery... and I've gotten spoiled.
Mmph. I should also mention that this phone has yet to meet a 1-Click version of anything that doesn't end up soft-bricking it, so that's a factor.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
same rules apply for gingerbread that applied to froyo.
"best rom" is an opinion. best for you is a decision.
what you consider good is not what others will consider good.different roms have different options, you may like different things.
battery life is dependant on what you do, what apps you install, and KERNEL.
roms do come with a kernel. but it can also be changed.
in my opinion in FROYO the best was firefly 3.0 rom with onix kernel.
you want my opinion with gingerbread??? my rom. the one i made. though i may be HIGHLY BIASED.

Yes... and I apologize profusely for posting what is obviously a question in the wrong section of the forum. I'm usually more on it than that.
I don't mind getting opinions on this, though. The folks who are really about the rom they're into usually say why... and this being XDA, they often do so in detail. Those are the kinds of opinions that make it easier to make informed decisions, and I always appreciate them greatly. And yes, I will give your rom a look, bias or no.
Moderator... if you could please close this thread, I'll set about putting it in the right place, if there is one.
moderators will usually close these threads without being asked as soon as they see them, not because its in the wrong section but explicitly because of the reason i stated above.
xda does not want opinion based threads claiming one rom is better than others. because as i stated, one person will like one thing and others another.
or if you want to know whats popular just look at the "thread views" count of the [ROM] s in the development thread
I personally am on Serendipity for my captivate. I find that it is very stable for everything I need to do. Just an fyi there are also no more updates for this rom so on that note it will stay stable and you wont have to worry about updates for it.

Saurom is a really smooth rom with good battery life I found.
SAUROM is good.Have a try.
GB ROMS are like cars, some are built for speed and performance others look good and some give you great mileage...and some have a nice mix of all three, the choice is up to you to test drive a few before you buy and then if you are not satisfied you can just trade it in for another model.
I have found something I like in every ROM/KERNEL (GB KERNEL development is exceptionally good) I have tried but its really a personal preference just as in the car you choose to drive.

Newest skyrocket ROM?

Hello, im moving over from my Xperia X10a over to a Skyrocket. It should come in the mail tomorrow or friday. I'm looking to get up to speed on what is the latest official and latest stable ROMs?
Im guessing the latest (international version not ATT) is ICS, right?
and probably the latest stable build out there is Jellybean?
I'm also looking for suggestions, I've always gone with latest official International versions, but if there is a stable jellybean rom with everything that works, im game. I'm looking at CM9 Stable right now, what prog do you guys use to flash? can someone point me in the right direction?
im trying to fast-track so I know what's what when the phone gets here.
Asking for suggestions as to which ROM you should use is a great way to get your post locked. Might want to edit your OP. Also, this should be in Q&A, not General.
There are several new ROMs that have come out in the last couple of weeks. I suggest you look at thread titles in the dev section, as almost everyone dates their latest release. Virtually everyone here uses CWM Touch or TWRP to flash. A few hate their phones and therefore use non-touch CWM.
Read the stickys I can tell you clearly have done no research at all which is a direct violation of rule one of xda's rules

I guess im not on the same track, I'll edit my post but im not sure what to take out...or what I said wrong?
I'm just looking for a simple "hey man everything has a particular issue right now besides ICS" I mean, I don't even know if there IS an unbranded U.S. ICS rom right now. I guess that's part of what im asking.

"I'm also looking for suggestions." One of prbassplayer's rules is no "best" threads. Saying, "I'm also looking for suggestions," is a pretty solid invitation for people to come in here and say use X or use Y or whatever and basically promote a specific dev's work, which is something that is typically frowned upon.
There are numerous ICS and JB ROMs out there for the Skyrocket. I'll again recommend you have a look through the Skyrocket dev forum, because the only way for you to decide on a ROM is to read up on what each one offers and decide which works best for you as a starter.
JB is not stable in any SR ROM that I'm aware of, by the way.

gotcha! thanks. now I see how I could have worded it differently. now that I know there are no stable JB roms out yet, I know where to look. I appreciate it.
This thread is very close to a "whats best" thread and will be locking. Also posting int he correct forum will also help like this should have been in Q&A.

If you are not worried about using ginger bread, then I would vote for Endymion. This thing is more stable and rock solid than most stock roms on any device. As a matter of fact, I'm still on 3.4 (latest is 3.5) and I swear I won't flash my d.s with anything else.

Absolutely fine mate. The OP should know better as he has been a member of the forum for long than me. However, out of 118 post he has started 24 new threads - none of which seem to have a single benefit to the community as a whole.
Just a quick list of some of the recent 'Best ROM' threads;-
[Q] Best Non Sense ROM
Best ROM for HD gaming
Stable ICS/JB ROMs?
Desire s fully working roms
JB ROM with HTC Sense?
[Q] What Rom is Smooth For Desire S.
Andromadus vs. Jellytime vs. PACman vs. Pure CM10
Best jelly bean radio ?
Best ICS ROM ?
Which is the most stable Jelly Bean Rom any idea?
And that is ONLY the ones marked with November - and if anyone ever frequents the top-level General or Q&A forums then they will know that "Which is the best ROM" threads are locked with 100% efficiency by the moderators as being against the rules of XDA.
The OP's question has been answered regularly by the good people hanging around here on multiple occasions and it is getting beyond a joke that people just can't be bothered to read or search. They take absolutely zero part in contributing to XDA as a whole and never attempt to help anybody else, but then feel they have the right to just come on and post whatever questions they want answered then and there because they are too lazy or impatient to actually look for themselves and they consistently post in the wrong part of the forum - General for a question?
I know I can sometimes be a grumpy sod, but I really do feel that our Moderators should start taking a slightly more pro-active stance with regards to the forums the are in charge of - maybe if people started finding their pointless/redundant threads deleted or locked they would actually start to follow the Rules of XDA and help themselves. The amount of times I find myself pointing out;-

is simply incredible.
I would never call you a grumpy old sod, and to be honest I'm not exactly the most knowledgeable person on here.however I do get your point even I'm beginning to think twice about putting in my tuppence worth in these threads, they pop up daily yet if most people just scrolled down half a dozen threads they would find an identical question.
Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing. ~Wernher Von Braun
15 seconds typing into the search engine or hours of your time plus mins or more of others to reply of course I'm exaggerating but time is the one thing you can't buy save every ones and use the search engine. I'm using viper saga 1.0 great rom seems very stable for ics
It's also very fast compared to my old one which mind you wasn't slow either. Very easy install process for apps and addons there included in the rom and you choose what to install first run. But other than that your best bet is to get some of the older more promanant ROMs, as there will be allot more known about certain problems.
Hope this helps
