Polished Battery Cover or other mods - G2 and Desire Z Accessories

Hey guys, just wanted to share my polished battery cover, it was starting to flake so I thought I may as well just polish it up.
I think I've seen this before but I couldn't find a thread, what else have you guys done to your phones??

Thanks!
I only used 400 grit sand paper and water, then once all the film/lacquer type stuff was removed I then used 2500 grit and water to smooth it off and it started to get shiny. I did this in straight lines, I also removed the HTC lettering.
I did use some metal polish afterwards which made it even shinier.
Hope that helps!
Edit - Here is another photo, taken with the Desire Z itself

I have a really scratched up one. Would you be interested in doing this for me for a small labor fee?

Depends really, where do you live? I'm in the UK.
It is something you could do yourself though, buy a pack of various grade sandpaper - 400 grit to 2500 grit. Then I think you could make up some kinda metal polish with some household stuff lol..

wooow looks great . i must try this

**** yeah, im so doing this :3

Looks really great, of course I can't find anywhere that sells 2500 grade..

There really isn't much to it. Start with 400-600 grit sand paper and go in straight lines from the bottom to the top end of the cover, you can add water if you think it is too rough or hard to do this. Once all the protective/clear layer is removed, move up to a higher grit - I used 2500 grit but you can use 1000 and then 2500 to get more of a shine.
Once you are happy with how it looks, dry it and then use some metal polish to make it super shiny :good: I did remove the HTC lettering of the back before I started.

I'd have to agree but I usually just get rid of it with a piece of tape when I have no choice but to put it down on a dusty surface or just put it in its holster. I'd take removable dust over permanent scratches/dents

[Q] Motorola Xoom Backplate

Hey all, I was just wondering is it possible to buy a coloured backplate for my Xoom? I find the standard one quite boring and would like to change it!
Thanks in advance.
You can buy skins not sure about backplates, but their easy enough to paint
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
What sort of preperations would i need to make to the back plate to paint?
Sand, wetsand, prime sand some more then paint and primer, have a google for exact prep been. A while since i sprayed metal lol good luck

Ill just add, do take your time if you do paint it, or itll turn out horrible and post a pic when your done

I don't know if it's a good idea to be using chemicals on the Digitizer. Best to use a screen protector or learn to live with it I'd say.
I use a liquid screen protector. Doesn't really fill in scratches well but it gives you peace of mind.
Don't use a polish on the phone, you'll just scratch it more.

That was always my thought on scratch removal tricks or products for smartphone screens. I've never tried it (usually use a screen protector), but it seems like something that would do as much harm as good.

Dot Case

So I saw the dot case in store on the display model, which we have all probably seen, However which the security device on the back side of the display models I was unable to notice this (see pictures) and I did not notice it in any of the reviews.
I really like the concept of the minimal 8bit lock screen which the dot case and further more the option to answer and make calls without opening is a great plus.
That said it's a shame I won't be using the case now that I have it. The lid does not close flush on the back when open which means the right hand must simple hold the phone and case preventing the right thumb from being able to be used to type / navigate on the screen. And if you were to not hold the lid flush against the back your left and can not maintain a firm grip on the phone because the lid is a tpu material which renders it a bit slippery.
This disappoints me because I really like the features it add.
* note to mods our accessories link is not working this is the reason this thread is in general and not /accessories

I noticed that too. I'm hoping mine just breaks in to a point where it was like my note flip case
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using xda app-developers app
you dont think it will soften up over time?
This has been mentioned in the Dot View review thread, Others have said it is nearly impossible to type with the cover folded back unless you are really pushing on it.
The case itself does not appear to provide much, if any protection to the back and sides. The Dot View look is cool but with the lack of protection and the flip cover not laying flat, I passed.

Same here after playing with it in store. More of a "cheap gimmick" case imo. Looks cool at night to show off to Ur friends but for any protection, day to day use, and the dot dirt it leaves on screen. Obviously not much thought went into this case outside of the "gimmicks."
Maybe if a soft see through cloth was on the inside of the lid so no dot dirt goes on device, lid actually was flexible to bend back and stay there, feel secure when closed, and had more protection then a cheap $5 knock off case, it would be well worth the $30 maybe $40 tops. Watch a cheap Chinese knock off becomes available on eBay in a few months with all these improvements and half the price, lol!

Lol, not much thought went into this case???? Ok. I think a lot of thought went into this case, and I think they did a excellent job on it! The case, is meant to use while on the go. Like driving, and at work. Hence the reason for the features it carries. It's not meant to text with it. Lol. Just saying. Everyone has their opinions though.

Not flaming, serious question.... Are you saying that you remove your case when texting or otherwise using your phone?
Imo a if your a case type of person wouldn't u want a case to leave on at all times?
I even like the display when the lid is on, in fact once we have write on the /system I fully intend on making it an optional lock screen when no security it being used.

but i know that when i had xtremeguard back protector (a transparent sticker) everytime i removed it, a part of the beats and htc logo was also removed.
So, maybe if you will put duck tape on it, remove it and repeat the process it will eventually come out.
I know it will probably not going to work, but this is the best solution i could think of right now

Sand it with light grit sandpaper. You are going to have to sand the whole thing to make it look good, but if you take your time you should get a nice brushed but shiny look.

Of course. It's going to make the entire back look like a price of brushed aluminum a lot brighter than it is depending on what color you got. But it's gonna look totally different.
