[ROOT] [S3] VilleC Superboot R1 - HTC One S

Superboot is a boot.img that when booted, will root your device the first time you boot (installing su and the superuser APK). No need to flash any partitions, no need to mess around with ADB, no messing with the contents of your data partition, no overwriting the shipped ROM on your device, just boot the boot image using the instructions below and you're done!
APPLY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Superboot r1 - DOWNLOAD (ROMraid) - MD5: 4b6195abc8b4bedc51e21c3c2e9dc30e
The superboot image is also 'insecure', allowing you to use 'adb remount' as well as having full ADB root access to your device until such time as you reboot after running this process (it's a non permanent ADB root as it's a 'fastboot boot' and not a 'fastboot flash').
How to use Superboot - Windows, Linux and OSX
- Download the Superboot zip file above and extract to a directory
- Put your device in bootloader mode - Turn off the phone then turn on with the 'volume up' and 'volume down' buttons both pressed to enter the bootloader (as pictured below)
- WINDOWS - double click 'install-superboot-windows.bat'
- MAC - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-superboot-mac.sh' followed by './install-superboot-mac.sh'
- LINUX - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-superboot-linux.sh' followed by './install-superboot-linux.sh'
Note: If you are using a retail device, you need to unlock the bootloader first via HTCdev. Note that the OEM unlock sequence wipes your device.

hi
i tried this method and i think it bricked my phone...
phone was unlocked and the battery was round 90%
phone turned black even thought my pc recognized as " my htc " i tried to flash a rom but ruu said that battery is under 30 % ( it took me 20 min to download ) when i tried to power on capacitive buttons are blinking so i took htc charger to charge the phone, when i woke up in the morning the red led is on - i thought it is charging , after i while i connected with pc but now it doesnt recognize at all.
i did some searches but no luck until now
what i can try next ?

Followed all the steps. Gets to a point where it says waiting for device, yet nothing happens. I ran the htcdev unlocked and it worked.
I have an htc one s and use a mac with OX10

Device connect to Fastboot mode and double click to run the file "install-superboot-windows".

Hey,
Thanks for the reply. And trust me, I've tried for days to find it... but in the end, the effort was a waste. The reason I want it this badly is because it is the last piece of software required in the unrooting process of the Explorer. I was hoping you guys could help me out.

Hey,
I've read in many threads that if you run the RUU (ROM Update Utility)^ after the unrooting process, the *UNLOCKED* or the *RE-LOCKED* goes back to the *LOCKED* status... that is if you have the proper RUU. I'm yet to try it out because i've not found a proper RUU for my Explorer..
Hope it helps!
^ I'm not sure of the "Update" part of it... It could also be "Upgrade".

Ruus are provided by HTC. I don't know why xda hasn't given the ruu for your phone? If you were able to relock the bootloader, you could take an OTA over the air update. I think its similar to ruu.

Cant use 4ext recovery!!!

i followed the following guide to s-off my htc sensation xe:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
i did it successfully, so now i wanted before i flash a custom rom, install the 4ext recovery updater. installing the app itself works, but i cant use it. it says i need to use busybox first. ok, downloaded 2 different busybox apps/installers from the market and they fail to run with the message "you need to have your device rooted first".
now im like: ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME?!
i would love to install a rooted-rom on my device but first i need obviously entering a mode where i actually CAN install a custom rom, which i can only do by running 4ext recovery.... loop....
please: a quick hint what i need to do next. i wanna finish this this evening. thanks.

did you do the second part of the the guide?
STEPS:
1.get the new root tool from root-sensation-zip
2.extract the zip
3.remove the files adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll , AdbWinUsbApi.dll (if you dont have any adb/fastboot setup dont delete these and skip step 4 )
4.copy the rest of files to the folder that you have extracted from temproot-sensation-windows.zip which you have downloaded during SOFF procedure
(if you have adb/fastboot setup then to adb folder)
5.connect your device normally (from lock screen or home screen) to pc (NOTE: avoid usb hubs and usb 3.0 ports while connecting ..just connect the device directly to pc/laptop)
6.double click on root.bat file ...wait until root is success and once success message "EVERYTHING DONE..ROOT SUCCESS...ONE FINAL REBOOT NOW" pops out without any errors...you are rooted completely

Why don't you flash 4EXT recovery manually from fastboot?
Here step 2 from this guide (only step 2 don't even touch step 3)

But first make sure that you have juopunutBear at the top when you go to bootloader.. Otherwise if you got locked let me know.

Use the one click root tool present in the soff guide (link in my signature)
To root the phone
(check root using root check basic application.. And if root fails (which I highly doubt it) run the one clock root again)
Edit: did you try to enter 4EXT via app? Nooo you need to go to bootloader and then select recovery from there.. And then you will enter recovery and from there you can flash custom rom
Also there is a way to say thanks in xda

sorry. your one click root tool only works on windows and im using ubuntu.
i have tried everything and afaik there just is no way to get the htc sensation xe with 1.27.0000 hboot s-off to root without either having to install windows (no option for me) .....
i found a file which would give me permanent root, but it only works for android 2.3.6......
and without root i dont need to install a custom rom. i better then stay with the original sense, i like, and wait till maybe the community finds a new method.

Dude you are completely getting it wrong here.. For custom recovery to work and to flash custom rom.. There is no requirement of root at all (heck root is a property of rom...)
When you said flash done.. I assumed it is success.. So you can easily boot to recovery and can flash a custom rom from there...
Also the bat file I had is pretty simple.. You can open it and can manually enter each command.. I could give you a Linux one.. But right now I'm on mobile
But Mark my words.. For flashing/using recovery and custom rom
. There is no f****ing requirement of root
Edit: oi you are saying your hboot Is 1.27.0000
Then you are having locked bootloader Then no way the flash of recovery via fastboot works....
Please confirm me this too.. Whether you got any error when you flashed the recovery.img (like remote not allowed)

Ok. You are right. I could boot into recovery mode and flash a custom ROM from there. But why I want root? To change the clock of the CPU or to use adblock for example to only name two...
Edit: flashing recovery image gave no errors at all

[ROOT] Superboot - Nexus 7 WiFi / 3G root solution

Introducing.... Superboot!
Superboot r4 - DOWNLOAD - MD5: f53825a2df09277f899b6738b3a059d5
How to use Superboot - Windows, Linux and OSX
- Download the Superboot zip file above and extract to a directory
- Put your device in bootloader mode - Turn off the phone then turn on with the 'volume up' and 'volume down' buttons both pressed to enter the bootloader (as pictured below)
- WINDOWS - double click 'superboot-windows.bat'
- MAC - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x superboot-mac.sh' followed by './superboot-mac.sh'
- LINUX - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x superboot-linux.sh' followed by './superboot-linux.sh'
Note: If you are using a retail device, you may need to unlock the bootloader first, using './fastboot-windows oem unlock' (or the appropriate version for your machine, included in this zip). Note that the OEM unlock sequence wipes your device, so consider doing an 'adb backup' beforehand if required!
Enjoy!

I was having trouble with the other two methods once inside CWM (something to do with the Windows driver), but this worked flawlessly. I can live without CWM for now.

I've got a question I hope won't bother you to answer, Paul.
My goal with my Nexus 7 when it arrives is to be able to load up Titanium Backup Pro and restore some of my Games (App+Data). I' d like to know if I understand the process right to get to that point and still be able to receive OTA updates.
The first thing I should do when I turn on my device is boot into the bootloader and oem fastboot unlock.
Next, I should follow your instructions to chmod and install the superboot package.
When my device reboots after this, should I be able to update to 4.1.1 and retain root so I can install TBpro?

Bootloader unlock problem!

Hey guys i have a problem with the bootloader of my chacha. I just bought this phone because my legendary hd2 broke. I've tried serveral times to unlock my bootloader of my chacha via the htcdev method but without any luck. Everytime I try the ruu it gives me the 170 error code which indicated my phone isn't connected to my computer.
I tried changing usb ports without luck and installing htc sync, but the device doesn't get recognized by eather the ruu or htc sync. So does anybody know a solution so I can root my phone?
BUMPY
Bump!
Try skipping RUU Update step, maybe you don't need a hboot update. It worked for me and others as well.

I am not saying to skip unlocking process, just the step about RUU Update and then continue unlocking.
Just hit 'proceed to step 1' and folow instructions.

You cannot do anything until you unlock the bootloader or s-off your device.
Apparently the problem is within HTC USB drivers.
If you have successfully installed HTC Sync and/or HTC USB drivers on your workstation, then enable USB debugging option on your phone and try to connect the USB cable to USB ports on your motherboard (at the back of computer case).
If this is not working, then probably the best option is to use somebody's else computer with Windows XP 32bit to unlock your device.
Or try a hardware reset on your PC. This will let your PC recognize the phone as a new device. Or try to fix drivers when you plug it in. This can be done from the config screen (Not sure what's the official name for in english windows... Only worked with dutch versions...

This is a brief tut on windows:
Download adlx' small fastboot tools: link
Download adlx' recovery (best one is 5.0.2.8) - couldn't find link, search it in a development section.
Download superuser zip: link - it is in the attachments - su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip.
Extract fastboot and recovery. Put recovery.img in the folder where your fastboot tools are. Navigate the command prompt to the fastboot folder. Connect your phone in fastboot mode and type this command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
This will install recovery.
Copy su zip on your sd card.
Then just flash superuser zip through recovery and you will have a rooted phone.
I rooted my ChaCha
Hi Guys
I rooted my ChaCha by using unlock from HTC and installing CWM and superuser. I installed Link2SD too. What I assume now it is giving me a all the space I have on sd card for installing the apps???
Nope... if you search the forum, there are plenty of guides that explain how to set up link2sd

[Q] HTC One Mini UK - Soft Bricked / no USB mount.

Hey gents, I have soft bricked my HTC One Mini while rooting it according to [HOW-TO][SUPER-GUIDE] Keeping Your One Mini Up To Date!!
let's start at the beginning
1. I unlocked the bootloader with HTCdev successfully, everything was looking good.
2. I tried to obtain S-OFF status, following the guides given in the thread
- None of the methods worked, but the wording of the guide says that S-OFF is not absolutely essential. I got various methods which suggested that obtaining S-OFF shouldn't actually be step 2 in this guide. At the time of trying to S-OFF, I did not have an unsecure kernel
3. I installed a stock, rooted, Odexed ROM called JMZ-M4 v.1.22.401.1 and the corresponding JMZ M4 kernel via TWRP recovery standard flashing methods.
- Tried to S-OFF again, got a "success" message but nothing happened, multiple times.
4. After playing around with this temporary test ROM, I decided to go ahead and install InsertCoin. The description of insert coin says the requirements are:
Code:
#include
/*
* Unlocked Phone @ HTCDEV or S-OFF
* Custom Recovery
* Common Sense, Brains and logic
*/
Seeing as I unlocked my bootloader @ HTCdev, I thought I wouldn't need the S-OFF, and continued.
- The ROM hung before bootloop (no animated part, just HTC logo) so I reset it (hold down power) and booted into bootloader and then recovery, wiped everything, went to flash it all again (I'm a veteran of the HTC Hero so know a bit about dalvik errors and assumed it was just a wipe problem) and there were no files.
-This made sense since I'd just wiped it, but now I don't have any USB access to my phone.
5. I can access adb in recovery and fastboot in fastboot USB, but other than that I have no sort of communication with my phone. In recovery, I can't browse any files. According to CWM, the /sdcard folder is unmountable, and in TWRP there is no adb connection whatsoever.
6. Using ADB Sideload, I managed to flash the PacMan ROM, but when booted up, neither the phone nor the computer detect any connection (no adb, no mass storage - MTP or MSC).
- adb Sideload refuses to load any Sense ROMs - I get a no status error, and I assume it's because the files are too big and cause a timeout.
7. Things could be worse, so I decide to move on and install GApps but still don't have a Play Store app.
8. I found a "fix" for the USB connection problem but it doesn't work:
Code:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot oem eraseconfig
9. Another USB fix was to revert to stock recovery > clear storage > factory reset > CWM recovery > flash ROM
Obviously, this doesn't work either.
10. Cannot get anywhere setting up S-OFF anymore, adb shell will not let me cd into /data/local/tmp, however it still lets me push files to that directory (curious?)
Just so I can recap:
S-ON HTC One Mini, no USB connection, and only runs stock Android ROMs, otherwise results in a brick.
Cannot achieve S-OFF with any method, each method results in an error or says "success" but doesn't actually work.
TWRP does not allow adb in any way, but allows me to browse files on the phone (could install from zip if I could put one there)
Code:
C:\Android>adb devices
List of devices attached
CWM allows adb and adb sideload, but does not allow me to browse files on the phone (so no installing from zip on sdcard). adb pushing large files results in a recovery crash (so can't push ROMs that I could install through TWRP)
Code:
C:\Android>adb devices
List of devices attached
HT41MWA01962 recovery
Booting into PacMan lets me use the phone, but does not have Play Store nor any connection with the computer through USB. Every other feature seems to work.
Phone BOOTLOADER info:
Code:
M4_UL PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.21.0000
RADIO-1.23.40E.00.26
OpenDSP-v19.2.0268.0927
OS-2.12.61.3
eMMC-boot 1024MB
Dec 3 2013,23:49:27.0
And serial number:
Code:
HT41MWA01962
At this point, I really don't care about roots, upgrades, firmware or anything. I just want to be able to use my phone like before I did any of this stupid stuff. I have a working knowledge of adb and fastboot so didn't anticipate any of these faults (I assumed 5 years of modding an HTC Hero would prepare me for this, but I was wrong).
Would it be too much to ask for someone more knowledgeable than myself to give me a hand?
Thanks, there's a $10 donation in it for anyone who can get my phone back to stock again or (even better) set up S-OFF and allow me to root properly as you learned folk do.
yeah sideload flashes instantly, I'm not keen on it!
try this ADB PUSH Rom & Gapps (not Insertcoin) to /data/local/ then install from that location in recovery.this should give you a working phone in the meantime
**edit** sorry just re-read your post, you cant push large files!
Go to your bootloader and relock your phone by using fastboot OEM relock. Then unlock again. Now flash stock recovery. You can Now use rumrunner or revone to get s-off. After that flash the firmware from InsertCoin. Flash the InsertCoin rom and You are on your wat.

Is there any way to find out which stock recovery I want? there are 3 versions, 2 with x.401.x and 1 with x.206.x, which should I use?
Also, I know that I won't be able to use either rumrunner or revone until I get USB support back, which isn't happening
You must use the 401. You can use revone After flashing the stock recovery.

sorry if I misunderstand, but how do I use adb with the stock recovery? I don't have any USB access at all when I'm running an OS, and only have adb in CWM recovery.
EDIT: I got reasonably far using the method outlined on this XDA page, under the heading "ROM update without SDcard" and using Philz recovery. This only seems to work in Philz Recovery, other recoveries cannot mount /data for some reason?
EDIT 2: GOT THE BADGER! I fixed my own problem, it only took 26 hours... I'll write a guide to help anyone with a similar problem but for now, I'm going to bed.
You first must flash stock recovery trough fastboot......Then You will be able to use adb-sideload trough twrp.

2. Flash stock recovery
3. Get s-off trough rumrunner or revone
4. Unlock bootloader
5. Flash twrp
6. Flash firmware InsertCoin trough fastboot
7. Flash via twrp via adb-sideload InsertCoin rom.
You should be ok now!

The S-OFF part doesn't work because I don't (didn't) have USB when the device was powered up, nor could I mount /data/local/tmp or any other folder. Managed a fix with a modded CWM recovery and a sneaky sdcard emulator trick. Thanks for all your help anyway!
