hey, I'm sorry to bump this thread but I'm having issues as well. it looks like it's trying to transfer the file via bluetooth right and the default folder is in the sdcard (folder)
I'm testing it now but I'm just creating a folder for Bluetooth in /storage/sdcard0/Bluetooth now and it seemed to work, trying on my other nexus now.
EDIT:
nope... i got one file to send but i don't know why the others won't...

Well I'm trying to transfer from my galaxy nexus to my nexus 10. Think I figured it it. I turned my Bluetooth off on my phone and then beamed it again and it works fine now. Try it out and see what happens.

Don't let the bluetooth be engaged!!
When ever nfc activates to share something, the bluetooth is activated as well. Most of the times when tha bluetooth turns on, it starts searching the paired devices to conect with. And in that case the bluetooth gets engaged and does not allow the nfc beam to complete..
You could either wait a little for the bluetooth to stop trying to connect with paired device.. Or just hit forget the paired device and then beam.
It should work as intended..

Can anyone tell me which bluetooth apk controls pairing and phonebook downloads, and if there is any way to edit it
Thanks
nope
you cannot change the bluetooth file. once its made its made. you would have to make your own and to know all the codes you would need to be a developer. and why would you even want to change bluetooth files?

I'd really like to know how to read bluetoothpbap.apk if anyone can help
I seem to be having the same problems as you have and am curious if you have had luck resolving them. My Bluetooth won't download the phonebook and frequently disconnects after trying (paired to my car).
I have tried re-pairing and updated my ROM to Phoenix 4.1 when it came out. I didn't have this issue with the stock ROM but it started happening in Phoenix 3.5 and continues in 4.1. This is my only problem with Phoenix and I'd really like to have it fixed.

Do you have root explorer, if you do, go to /system/app/bluetoothpbap.apk and rename to bluetoothpbap.apk.bak. reboot your phone and pair again with your car. It worked for me. Let me know if it works for you

I tried your fix and gave it a day or two to make sure it kept working every time. It does! Thanks!
I am not sure what that module does, but I'm not missing anything noticeable. Thanks Again!

I tried to transer an APK from my Nexus One to my new Xoom today, and was met with the error: 'The phone cannot handle this type of content' from the Nexus One's stock bluetooth transfer app.
I know this error is in regards to the Xoom as I regularly transer APKs from my Nexus One to other Android phones with success.
It seems that the stock bluetooth on the Xoom is crippled by extension. I renamed the APK to TXT and it went through fine.
My guess: This is Verizon's heavy hand in action. Can anyone confirm this occurs for them too? Does this occur on the wifi only version?
I tried to copy apk from windows 7 to Xoom over BT and i also got an error. Every other file type i tried sent just fine.

Where is this option to send apks via the stock Bluetooth app. My Nexus One is CM7 btw.
I've always used the Bluetooth File Transfer app from the market.
Update/ I wasn't getting a Bluetooth share option using Astro. I tried Root Explorer and I got the option but it won't send. Like you mentionee
I can confirm using wifi Xoom and Nexus One that I can't send apks via Bluetooth stock app.
However, with the Bluetooth File Transfer app, you can send apks between your N1 and Xoom.
I can not get bluetooth to work at all on any of the ICS roms that I've tried. Is there a problem in the kernels of these, or is it ICS itself that is being problematic? Particularly, I want to get sixaxis and bluetooth file transfers working. Bluetooth audio is irrelevant to me.
Any and all information on the subject would be appreciated.
Currently on Pyroice 1.1.2 with the slight UV kernel and the Adreno patch.
Pyroice is a sense based rom. This issue was talked about a while ago, Sense isn't compatable with 6Axis.

when transfering files i always get a force close as soon as i try to send but if you dont press the "OK" button it will still send.

Um... No it isn't. I'm using the other version that isn't sense. I also can't get it working on the CM9 alpha, and if I use CM7 with the OC kernel, it also doesn't work. I can't do file transfers over bluetooth either. Bluetooth just turns itself off after trying for a few seconds to turn itself on.
pyro ice desensed is still based on sense. hence "desensed". turn your bluetooth on in settings. select who you want to pair with. i use es file explorer to transfer by long pressing whatever file you are trying to send. a force close window will pop up DO NOT SELECT OK. on other device you need to accept the file, wait until it completely downloads then you can press ok

I can't get my bluetooth setting to stay in the 'ON' position. It will turn itself off right after I turn it on. Also, if that works for sending files, is there a way to make it work for receiving files? I would much rather push files to my phone from my PC via bluetooth while I'm at work than try to track down a micro-usb cable.
I'm not trying to sound argumentative here, I'm just looking for help.
Do we know what part of sense is screwing up sixaxis?

No, we don't know what part of sense screws up sixaxis, but it's all sense on every handset, not just ours. I'm looking into it but on another project at the moment.
Sixaxis works fine on cm7 for this phone, so maybe you have a hardware issue.
I also have no problems with file send/receive over bluetooth on sense...
Edit - sorry this is about ICS, forgot that when I was responding about cm7, I haven't done anything with ICS yet.

Thanks for the info!
Yeah, BT works on CM7, but I'd prefer to work on something newer. On ICS, bluetooth has been very intermittent as to whether it will turn on or not, and if it does, I can't get it to do anything even remotely useful.
I have attached screenshot of a error message which pops up whenever bluetooth operation of particular kind is initiated. I don't recall if this issue being present while on GB (earlier 2 versions) but is now present after upgrading to ICS OTA. This was also present before root while being on OTA ICS & now is present post root as well.
When I pair with my Moto S9 or any BT headset this error does not pop up but whenever I try to transfer files or photo (even a single pic or file) via BT to/fro my Dell Win 7 laptop it does. While one pic transfers thru successfully, the single file transfer fails. Also conversely I have successfully established BT tethering when required while having this issue. There are no multi apps & processes running in background for Android to have a reason to display this error.
Also on the laptop "the driver for Bluetooth Peripheral Device is not installed" error is omnipresent for MB865 despite auto troubleshooting as well as removing device and reinstalling (this is a common issue as seen on the web for Win 7 OS) but with no definitive answers.
Any help inputs guys, is appreciated.
Bump
Is there no body who faces this issue?? Please any help is appreciated.
Have you tried clearing Bluetooth Share data and rebooting to see if the problem is still persistent?

Did you get this resolved or responded to? I have similar issues and notifications but mine is linked to use of bluetooth headsets and the reading out of messages content through the bluetooth

@ Apex - As simple as this sounds "clearing Bluetooth Share data" what is meant by this and how do I do this? Reboot, generally? yes I have.
@ Axis - Thanks but I am not keen to do a factory reset cause I got a lot of stuff which would then need to be redownloaded and reinstalled from play (I have yet to get around to the stage of Nandroid backups)
@rowver - Responses as you can see which were present before you posted & yet to be resolved (however I will see once again tomorrow if this issue yet persists & don't miss the "on the computer the driver for Bluetooth Peripheral Device is not installed" error is omnipresent for MB865 despite auto troubleshooting as well as removing device and reinstalling (this is a common issue as seen on the web for Win 7 OS) but with no definitive answers.) I use Moto S9 & some freebie bluetooth headset with no issues. Watch this space.

A custom ROM won't help.
Unpair the devices.
Now try the whole process again. you will get a popup on the phone that asks if you want to allow the car to access your phone book.
Select the box that says don't ask again, and click yet.
Now every time you connect it will get the phone book.
