[Q] Verizon Xoom Native Bluetooth Transfer Crippled? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to transer an APK from my Nexus One to my new Xoom today, and was met with the error: 'The phone cannot handle this type of content' from the Nexus One's stock bluetooth transfer app.
I know this error is in regards to the Xoom as I regularly transer APKs from my Nexus One to other Android phones with success.
It seems that the stock bluetooth on the Xoom is crippled by extension. I renamed the APK to TXT and it went through fine.
My guess: This is Verizon's heavy hand in action. Can anyone confirm this occurs for them too? Does this occur on the wifi only version?

I tried to copy apk from windows 7 to Xoom over BT and i also got an error. Every other file type i tried sent just fine.

Where is this option to send apks via the stock Bluetooth app. My Nexus One is CM7 btw.
I've always used the Bluetooth File Transfer app from the market.
Update/ I wasn't getting a Bluetooth share option using Astro. I tried Root Explorer and I got the option but it won't send. Like you mentionee
I can confirm using wifi Xoom and Nexus One that I can't send apks via Bluetooth stock app.
However, with the Bluetooth File Transfer app, you can send apks between your N1 and Xoom.

[Q] Nexus S and Market Website Installation

Have any Nexus S owners had any luck getting installations from the new Android Market Website to work ?
I can install to my ZTE Blade (rooted with custom ROM) without problem but whenever I try installing to my Nexus S (rooted with stock 2.3.2) I get the message "This app will be downloaded to your device shortly." but nothing happens on the phone.
I've tried signing in and out of GTalk without any success so I'm wondering how other users have got on.
I've not tried it yet TBH, sorry.
Works fine for me anyway. Download starts a few minutes after adding it. sync on? Checked market settings?
Mine works fine as well, it's almost instantaneous for me to install stuff via the market website.

GMail sync is off as I don't use the Gmail client but it's the same on the ZTE Blade that works.
As for the settings, which market settings should I be looking at ?
On the Phone App the only option is Notification which is set to "Notify Me" (the same as on the ZTE Blade), while on the Market Website the Nexus S is there and set to "Shown in Menus". Is there something else I need to set ?

hey, I'm sorry to bump this thread but I'm having issues as well. it looks like it's trying to transfer the file via bluetooth right and the default folder is in the sdcard (folder)
I'm testing it now but I'm just creating a folder for Bluetooth in /storage/sdcard0/Bluetooth now and it seemed to work, trying on my other nexus now.
EDIT:
nope... i got one file to send but i don't know why the others won't...

Well I'm trying to transfer from my galaxy nexus to my nexus 10. Think I figured it it. I turned my Bluetooth off on my phone and then beamed it again and it works fine now. Try it out and see what happens.

Don't let the bluetooth be engaged!!
When ever nfc activates to share something, the bluetooth is activated as well. Most of the times when tha bluetooth turns on, it starts searching the paired devices to conect with. And in that case the bluetooth gets engaged and does not allow the nfc beam to complete..
You could either wait a little for the bluetooth to stop trying to connect with paired device.. Or just hit forget the paired device and then beam.
It should work as intended..

[Q] Bluetooth Address Book Download Issue

Hoping someone out there can help me
I have the Verizon G3 and have installed several custom ROM's. I really would like to have CM10 as my DD but I am running into an issue with most of the CM10 variants. I have a car stereo with Bluetooth support, I have no issues pairing the phone, that works OK. But shortly after I pair my phone I receive a dialog that asks for permission to download my address book to my stereo (this is an extremely handy feature since I can then use the car's voice activation feature to place a call e.g. "Call So-and-So on Cell". When I give the phone permission, it seems the download never completes. Normally, the stereo will display a message that says "Download Complete" but in this case I never see that message. Also, when I try to use my voice activation the stereo keeps telling me "Phone book still downloading", This happens on any CM-based ROM that I try, it is very consistent so I am assuming there is something in the base CM code. If I install any ROM based on stock I have never seen this issue, the phonebook download completes in a few seconds. I have also tried pairing an iPhone and a Blackberry and everything is fine.
I am wondering if anyone else has seen this issue and if anyone knows a way this can be fixed? This is my "acid test" for an acceptable rom for me so I am hoping I can get this addressed so I can move away from stock.
Thanks in advance!

Guess I am the only one with this issue? I just tried installing CM10 M1 but it still has the same issue. I will try some other JB-based variants to see if I can find something that likes my stereo :fingers-crossed:
Same thing happens with my Ford Sync system. This last time I turned on the auto download or auto update (forget what it's called) and somehow my address book is completely downloaded.

Thanks! I recently downloaded Incubus23jc's JellyWiz R3 running 4.1.1 (which I believe is a port from either T-Mobile or AT&T leak) and the address download works just fine. So the issue isn't directly JB-related. Guess I will try to submit a defect on the CM site.

[Q] Killed by Android due to low resources Bluetooth

I have attached screenshot of a error message which pops up whenever bluetooth operation of particular kind is initiated. I don't recall if this issue being present while on GB (earlier 2 versions) but is now present after upgrading to ICS OTA. This was also present before root while being on OTA ICS & now is present post root as well.
When I pair with my Moto S9 or any BT headset this error does not pop up but whenever I try to transfer files or photo (even a single pic or file) via BT to/fro my Dell Win 7 laptop it does. While one pic transfers thru successfully, the single file transfer fails. Also conversely I have successfully established BT tethering when required while having this issue. There are no multi apps & processes running in background for Android to have a reason to display this error.
Also on the laptop "the driver for Bluetooth Peripheral Device is not installed" error is omnipresent for MB865 despite auto troubleshooting as well as removing device and reinstalling (this is a common issue as seen on the web for Win 7 OS) but with no definitive answers.
Any help inputs guys, is appreciated.
Bump
Is there no body who faces this issue?? Please any help is appreciated.
Have you tried clearing Bluetooth Share data and rebooting to see if the problem is still persistent?

Did you get this resolved or responded to? I have similar issues and notifications but mine is linked to use of bluetooth headsets and the reading out of messages content through the bluetooth

@ Apex - As simple as this sounds "clearing Bluetooth Share data" what is meant by this and how do I do this? Reboot, generally? yes I have.
@ Axis - Thanks but I am not keen to do a factory reset cause I got a lot of stuff which would then need to be redownloaded and reinstalled from play (I have yet to get around to the stage of Nandroid backups)
@rowver - Responses as you can see which were present before you posted & yet to be resolved (however I will see once again tomorrow if this issue yet persists & don't miss the "on the computer the driver for Bluetooth Peripheral Device is not installed" error is omnipresent for MB865 despite auto troubleshooting as well as removing device and reinstalling (this is a common issue as seen on the web for Win 7 OS) but with no definitive answers.) I use Moto S9 & some freebie bluetooth headset with no issues. Watch this space.

Just for future reference, mybackup pro or mybackup root from the market will back up all apps, photos, and music. Just a thought if it comes down to it.

Wifi-Direct with another phones

Hello. Recently I was trying to use Wi-Fi direct to transmit data to my Lg g2. I manually paired the devices from Settings menu then I selected a file-share-wifidirect and.... nothing! It showed me an empty screen with a Search For Devices button and in a few seconds responded with a message popup "Data transmission via Wi-Direct must be performed with another huawei device at the moment". WTF? Why? Is Wi-fi direct something huawei specific? I do not think so. The odd thing is that LG also allows to pair devices but does not give you a possibility to send data via Wi-Fi Direct forcing you to use SmartShare Beam which is LG-only technology. Why manufacturers are so stupid, they state their product has some technolohy but it's actually unusable! I do not wan't 2 huawei devices and I do not want 2 LG devices! On the other hand my old samsung s3 hanles it in a proper way, I was able to send files from it to both aforementioned devices using Wi-Fi Direct.
I know I can install SuperBeam to deal with my problem but it's inconvenient to install it on every device you want to transmit data to. So I just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem. Also my ROM is a bit old, something like b121(I have MT7-L10 version) so I wonder maybe they have already fixed it in some newer ROM especially the lates ones with Lolipop. If so I will try to install that rom. Thank you.
