I just finished installing all the stereo parts in my car only to find out that my Captivate won't work with the voice dialing of the stereo. I guess it's the phone's fault as my wife's Focus works just fine as did my old HTC Pure. She won't trade phones with me so I'm stuck trying to find a ROM that has this.
With Samsung stating it will be fixed (added) in 2.2.1; does that mean only the 2.2.1 ROMS will have this feature? I'm currently running Cognition 4.3.1 and it does not have it; but would like to only try new ROMS that have it. What ROMS do have the feature?
Thank you for your input.
Firefly supports voice dialing. You have to start the Voice Dialling app and then say the command.
What I'm looking for is what the Droid Incredible has. I paired it to my stereo and when I hit the call button on the stereo; it launched what appeared to be a bluetooth voice dialer application that allowed me to speak into the stereo.
I just tried firefly and it did have that app, but it crashed as soon as I tried it. It also crashed the music app, failed to mount the storage drives, crashed when trying to put it in debugging mode and pretty much was unstable since it booted. I then tried to use one click odin and it went to a blue screen half way through the process. It'll be a fun night.
Probably not what you want to hear, but my BT in the car works great on my 'stock' set up. I think it has more to do with the kernel/ modem configuration than the ROM though.
dragon has this. many people are pairing it with choice dialer.

I can't get Choice Dialer to work well at all. ONe example: "CAll Tom Jones", it says "CAll Tom Jones?", I say "Yes", it says "Try again". Argh...
ANd most of th time it just doesn't understand me at all.
I believe this is the apk you need. I know cog doesn't come with it. This is an old one so I don't know if there is a newer version available but when you pair your bluetooth and hit the voice command on your stereo or bluetooth set, make this the default app when the prompt shows up. It won't give you a voice prompt but if you wait 2 secs and then speak it should dial for you. Only problem is that your phone has to be awake but at least you can use voice commands from your bluetooth set. Just leave your phone plugged in and awake while your in the car. This is the only option I have found.
That worked.
Thank you for the apk. That works.

Boy, ain't that the truth. It really chaps me that the one thing that should be solid on a Cell now-a-days is voice dial. Can't believe that OLD OLD technology from Microsoft on Winmo SHINES so much better than Android. Maybe that's the only thing that does, but in my opinion, one of the most important things for a cell phone...at least if you anticipate wanting to use it while driving.
That was a tom jones joke ...
I'm glad the Voice Dialer apk worked. I couldn't get it to work on any Captivate ROMs. Most reoriented i9000 ROMs have a working version, but I find all of the i9000 ROMs to be severely lacking in performance compared to KB1 ROMs.
My preferred solution in either case is to use Bluetooth Launch and Voice Search. Bluetooth Launch can be found here. Run it from the app drawer, it brings up a full list of installed apps and available activities. Choose Voice Search, and then the "VoiceRecognition" activity (must have Google's Voice Search installed first of course). Then, hit your call button, and set Bluetooth Launch as the default activity when it asks. From then on, your call button will launch Voice Actions, which support not only "call <contact>" but also a ton of other commands, including controlling music, text msgs, etc. I love sending texts without touching my phone, and it works flawlessly for me so far.
I've been running the rooted GB leak since it came out. So far the battery life is great and it is very stable.
*Edit* I should clarify that I am running 4.5.606 installed as the 2 part rooted zip, I am going to also install 4.5.607 to see if it changes anything.
I have noticed a couple of bugs so far.
I am running on GSM, the signal strength indications are 2 bars lower than they were under Froyo using Fission. The actual signal strength is the same, it is just the indication that is out.
If I turn the phone off and then on again without waiting for 20 seconds the GSM radio fails to initialise on the reboot. It tells me there is no network and asks if I want to switch to Global mode.
Sometimes the camera takes partial pictures, the first third is there the remainder is black.
Sometimes I answer a call and it is silent, no audio. It only happens from a few numbers, it always happens to the same numbers. I had the same issue on a Galaxy S and it was quite common. The entire time that I was running Froyo on the D2G I only found one other number that was a nokia mobile on the same network as mine where there would be no audio every time I called him or he called me. On this build I have had the no audio issue from a landline number, this is a first!
Vz have put a block into the firmware that prevents call diversions being made using the standard codes (ie. **62 etc) It pops up a message saying "Call forward is disabled outside the verizon wireless network"
The only issue you listed that I can confirm is the signal strength indicator for GSM. However, it was working in exactly the same fashion on stock 2.2.
I have noticed quite a few bugs.
1. Sometimes when a text message gets a certain length the keyboard stops working. You have to press home and open it again.
2. Keyboad LED sometimes doesnt come on.
There are a few others but I can't remember. I don't know what the problem is but I'm thinking of flashing back to 2.2 because it's so frustrating.
You can also try 4.5.607.

Where can I find this? and can I flash it from 606?
http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?3406-Gingerbread-leak-D2G-Updated-to-4.5.607!
You need to follow the instructions here. I have been running 606 and it is excellent with just a couple of minor issues, but nothing show stopping. The biggest PITA for me at the moment is the inability to set up call diverts from my phone due to the Vz lock in 606, I am just about to install 607 to see if it changes anything.
4.5.607 is the soak test update; you can find it @ RootzWiki.
To install it, you must be on stock 2.4.330, no root, no bootstrap recovery.
There are no major changes in it. Call forwarding options are still available on VZW only.
wifi ad-hoc also not working properly!
BlueTooth Issues Anyone?
It seems I've lost the ability to connect to my phone over bluetooth serial port from my PC. Can anyone confirm this, or deny it? I've tried 2 PCs, with different BT dongles so far. I've had this problem on GB 606 and now 607. Man bluetooth is a pain. Might try SBF, reverting, but it does become tedious after a while.
(also, if it's just me, any suggestion on how to fix?)
I have flashed back to 2.4.330 and then installed the 4.5.607 update.zip and then rooted with the droid 3 script. No changes that I can see from 4.5.606.
Bluetooth audio works perfectly both ways. I can send a file from my PC to the phone using bluetooth. I can browse the device over bluetooth, but only after installing a 3rd party app. I am running Ubuntu so I can't comment on the windows bluetooth stack, but the linux one seems to perform normally.
SPP
I know BT Audio works. My concern is, did the BlueTooth Serial Port Profile and DUN go away? I used to be able to connect to my phone over BlueTooth and send AT commands to it. Now, no port, no connection.
I'm sure I didn't have DUN support on stock 2.4.330.
Not sure about the BT device which Windows fails to find drivers for, though.
No Call Audio.

Mine did the same thing every other day on GB. I couldn't hear anything and neither could other person on the line. Only way I had been able to fix this is by rebooting the phone. Got very annoying. Went back to Hexen Froyo for now...
So I'm off travelling the world and using my d2g for internet access. I probably should have tested it before I left ;-)
It turns out the USB tethering does not appear to work, I get a connection and an IP address via DHCP, I can ping the gateway on the phone and resolve DNS info if I use the gateway as the server, but I can not get any traffic to pass through the phone.
Wireless tethering won't even connect using the built in App.
I tried Opengarden and the latest beta of the wireless tether app, no joy yet.
Funnily enough the bluetooth networking connected straight away and works perfectly.
I am running linux on my laptop, I guess I will have to boot into windows to see where the issue lies.
I don't claim to know anything, and currently don't have the motivation to go back to Froyo, but SPP and DUN are listed for the Droid2Global on here:
(not allowed to post link to MotoDev specsheet for Droid2Global)
I had SPP on Froyo. Now I don't. Don't know if it's GB, or just me.
I have a 2013 Honda Accord which has an infotainment system that supports MAP. My phone asks if it wants to give it access, I said yes to all double checked in the settings that all are checked but it still doesn't do anything when someone texts me. It is supposed to Auto Read them and I made sure that setting is on on my car as well. This system should be the same as some Acuras as well.
Some additional info: When I choose select account it says this phone doesn't support this feature.
Same problem here with an aftermarket BT deck.
Has anyone got MAP to work with anything?
Works fine with 2012 BMW
MAP is flawless on my 2012 BMW iDrive system.

Did you do anything special? Or does it just work after connecting it to Bluetooth. I fear this is a Honda issue but that doesn't make much sense since it does support some Android phones that probably had MAP before and the iPhone.
I received a similar prompt asking about the car accessing my calls and another about messages. Accepted both and it just works.
MAP was added to CM 10.2 awhile ago, and it worked the same on my LG Optimus G (basically a Nexus 4).

Doesn't seem to work on my e90 my10 Idrive. It used to work with sense ROM but not with cm 10.2 on my HTC one x

Anyone have any luck getting this to work? I get an envelope icon on my iMid screen, but an error message stating "the connected phone does not support this feature" when it attempt to read out the message. I have a 2014 Accord EX-L.
I'm in the same boat as OP. I've got a 2013 Honda Civic Si and a Nexus 5, and they don't work well together.
From my research on this, I believe this to be a flaw within the Hangouts app, and not a communication problem between the phone and the head unit. After playing around with it for a while (deleting the pairing profiles, repairing the two devices, clearing the system in my car, etc.), I noticed a few things that lead me to this conclusion. After a few connection attempts, the car only successfully read me one message. Afterwards, the text message functionality on my i-MID was selectable, but clicking the enter button wouldn't do anything. Checking my phone, Hangouts was also frozen. The phone was telling me (via ringtone and notification popups) that I was receiving texts, but I couldn't read them until I disabled BT and force closed Hangouts.
Is this a common problem that we are all experiencing? Can any of you confirm or deny these ideas? Also, which messaging app is everyone using (I don't want recommendations, I want to know if this is Hangouts' fault or not)?
Got a 2014 accord same problem. My fix was stopping hangout.. Works fine now I have a nexus 4 running 4.4.4

So did you end up having to use a different SMS app, then? If so, which one worked for you?
I used the stock Sms app that came with the phone. My problem was I saw the text come thru on my accord , but was unable to hear or see the message.... Same problem with my old texts also. I do not use hangout so disabling was not a problem

Ah, well, that's a bit different that the problem I've currently found myself in. For me, the text messaging functionality is permanently disabled in my i-mid display. I'll give getting rid of hangouts a try, though!

I can confirm that my car's Nav system is able to notify me and then read SMS messages from my hangounts app on my N5 without any issues (Toyota). I can also send SMS messags from the car (thru' N5). Works fine, everytime. So, I don't think it is a hangouts issue.

I'm struggling with my Toyota... I have the Non jbl system with Nav. The message access option should have been there every single time (unlike what you described). I'd suggest deleting the pairing from the phone and the car, and to try again. If the problem persists, try to pair it to another car (Toyota or not) and see if it works with that. If it does, that means it is an issue with your car's system. If it doesn't (and the other car can pair to other phone's with message access properly), it may be an issue with your phone.

Kinda glad to hear that it is working ok with another car - but at the same time, I'm not sure how helpful the dealership will be (assuming the problem d1oesn't get resolved by re-pairing) - automotive firmware is basically written in stone - very hard to get them to fix it. They usually keep blaming the phone. Good luck.

I assume you told them that it works with the Avalon - and they stuck with "it is your phone"... UGH! Funny how it works fine with one car, and not with another (even though both cars are made by same manufacturer). Yes, it must be using a different BT stack/hardware/software, but why not use the same one across the board? sheeeeeeeesh
Hi everyone.
First off, let me say I did search for my issue, but really could not find anything that was relevant to all of my issues. And, if this is in the wrong place, please let me know!
Now- I installed a bluetooth radio in my truck 2 weeks ago. I was running a rooted SCH-i535 on 4.2. Did not have anything other than root access, due to me dropping my phone and getting it replaced.(Only problem was cracked screen, worked flawlessly). Now, I was able to connect my radio and phone with bluetooth, and worked fine. I had a pin code on my phone, and was still able to hold down my phone button on my radio, and give voice commands no problem. Now, I get my replacement phone this past weekend from geek squad. I go in, give them my old phone, and tell them im going to browse the store, ill be back for the other phone. I come back to get it, and its up and running. I get in my truck, get the phone and radio to sync, set my phone down, and try to make a call....I can not use voice commands. I hold the button on the radio, and it tells me service is not available. Tried just using a swipe unlock. same thing. Now, I forgot to mention, geek squad went ahead and performed the OTA 4.3 update while setting up my phone. I can use the phone and it will use the bluetooth for the calls if I select it from a phone book, and I can receive calls too. Its just that the voice control will not work...its almost if s-voice is not seeing that I am making a command or anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated, because I loved having a truly hands free set up in my truck. Thank you for any help!
Have the same problem. I'm on rooted unlocked vzw 4.3 but I had this problem on 4.1.2 as well. Bluetooth calls connect but media not coming through (it's connected in BT settings). Occasionally the media will come through as well. I tried clearing cache just for BT through TiBu and emediately restarting phone which mostly worked on 4.1.2 but not on 4.3. I also tried a full factory reset and a clean re-install of the rom (I always clean install). Problem persists. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Since I got my phone on release day and I haven't been able to use it to make calls in my 2012 mazdaspeed3. My other phones have worked fine so I thought I needed a software update on my radio. Well everything is up to date and that didn't fix it.
The problem is when I make or receive a phone call the Bluetooth will connect and disconnect every 5-10 seconds. This makes it impossible to talk on the phone.
So I have tried stock roms, sense based roms, and all the CM based roms and they all did the same thing. Yesterday I was trying to figure it out so I sat in my car in the garage and the phone was in a constant connect disconnect loop. During this time I was disabling apps and services hoping to stop it when all of a sudden I turned off WiFi and it stopped. I then called my wife and had a 10 min conversation with no problems. So I now run a tasker profile that when Bluetooth connects it turns off WiFi so I can make calls. The problem is I have a nexus 7 dash mounted and I use the WiFi hotspot to run apps.
So after all that, does this sound like a hardware issue or a software issue? Should I return my phone for an exchange? Thanks for the help

So far, no. It took me like 20 minutes to get the phone to pair but once that was done it hasn't disconnected at all. I have music constantly streaming through Bluetooth to the car and I've taken a couple calls with no issue.

Have you tried clearing data and cache in settings?
the Red Viper ROM
I am having the same issue.
It is connecting and disconnecting repeatedly, and it is SUPER annoying because it essentially renders my pebble watch useless.
For a while i was using the Automatic Link (car link) and was getting 'bluetooth share has stopped' errors, but found that when I stopped using the Automatic app it helped a little bit (stopped giving me the 'share has stopped' error), but it still connects and disconnects repeatedly.
The weirdest thing about this is that when I first got this phone I wasn't having this problem, everything was working fine for the first month or so, but it seems to keep getting worse.
I have tried wiping cache, dalvik, fixing permissions, etc. and have not had any luck, but I don't want to do a complete wipe of all my data and lose my text messages, etc. unless ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, since there are images and things in there that I continually refer to for work, and I have not found that titanium backup restores them very reliably.
Has anybody had any luck with this issue? Could it be a defective device? It seems to me like it should be a software problem because it is not something I was having problems with from the start...
I am very frustrated with this, even more so because I love this phone so much. I have never had a phone that I liked as much as this one, usually the first thing I do is install an AOSP rom, but I even like Sense 6 in some ways. With Nova Launcher's 'OK Google' hotword support this phone is a dream come true... if only the bluetooth worked.

you need to let HTC backup app take care of backing up your texts etc...what if you dropped the phone in the toilet tonight or got pushed into a pool?
this app is free...will backup your stuff daily or on demand and will restore email accounts/texts/desktop/apps/blinkfeed settings etc.
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407589902
install that, backup to the cloud (uses Google drive) and then continue troubleshooting without fear of losing stuff.
