I was pretty excited to upgrade from my xoom to this amazing tablet. Specs up the wazzoo...
But I am very disappointed. I lag is really bad. I if I am doing something like downloading and app other things basically freeze up. Using the browser is laggy while downloading. Battery life is also pretty poor compared to the xoom. I use my tablet at work.. My xoom easily lasts all day and even into the next day. The infinity however was giving me a low battery warning at the end of the day.
Yes the screen is nice and the tablet is thinner and lighter. It has a dock which is all great but doesn't mean anything if it stutters and lags giving me constant app not responding errors. I would have thought it had a hardware problem except forums everywhere are talking about poor job performance. Let me be clear it isn't poor it is aweful!

It seems, as if I were the only one with a tablet that performs well! I am happy with my Informer in respect of hardware quality and useability. I would buy it again anytime!

That's good to hear... Hopefully after some firmware updates we will all be able to say the same.
I haven't had any problems with mine. Seems to operate pretty snappy. I've installed the Chrome browser and never even used the stock browser.

You're not alone. Yes, the 700 has its quirks and minor defects, but I love it so far. Provides gerat functionality and is snappy enough. Just want the I/O to be fixed and I'll be completely happy.
@OP: Battery life for my device is pretty god, as the battery easily gets me through 1,5 days of work, so I guess you'll have to let it settle in for a bit. You might be judging it too quickly.
I had some of the same feelings the first day while I tried to use it as it downloaded and installed over 150 apps. But by the second day I was really seeing great performance. I did get a system reboot after a hang in Facebook tho.
Battery life was pretty impressive. Over 13 hours with 3 hours screen on time and still 30% left. That's without the additional dock battery. And that was on performance mode and max brightness non-super ips+ almost the whole time.
Have not got mine yet, still deciding...
But it seems the OP was experiencing the I/O issue. But how often will you be downloading/transfering any files/apps on this.
Once that is done, from what I read the experience is great.
Also, I have read to try a different browser as well. Either Chrome or Dolphin. Try those and report back.
Have had mine for a day and a half. It really stutters and is quite herkee-jerkee with some apps (Adobe Reader, for one) and on website browsing. It frequently takes a second or three for the page to become focused. Never experienced this with the iPad. Quite a let down.

Agreed. Got mine yesterday - no I/O issues to speak of. Love the build quality, the screen - everything is ultra smooth. Fantastic kit and it blows the Ipad out of the water.
Installing apps in the fresh won't happen all that often, but since it hangs also when updating apps, you'll stll encounter it frequently.
Also, Dolphin is a privacy black hole -- in the past, they were caught red-handed when stealing all possible kinds of users' info without their consent. I'd stay away from it and use Opera or Boat instead (if needed at all, because the stock browser actually is suprisingly quick about its stuff).

It's good you're pointing the finger towards these issues, I've done some pretty bad advertising of Dolphin before I read more about it. Nevertheless, I'd still add Chrome to the list.
i came from a xoom as well and i feel the opposite. yes there was lag while downloading my apps, but once it was completed, i havent had any lag issues. the ability of having a fully functioning memory card is also a step up from the xoom. the xoom had its issues as well. i will till keep my xoom around because it will probably get JB first. But i doubt i will ever use it as my main device.

I've touched upon these issues before, but to rehash: I think the current version(s) of Android is/are ill-equipped for the incredibly powerful hardware we now get onto the market. I've given the example before that Unix systems scale beautifully on low-spec hardware and that they outperform any other OS in that scenario, but that they won't show that much improvement if you up the specs to the level we're now using in both our desktops and on the go, whereas in that case the other OSes gain much performance.
It will improve (and quite possibly vastly), but FullHD is a bit too much to bite off and chew for Android at the moment.
Dutch's phone runs beautifully on ICS (as does mine) because the hardware is more in line with what the developers were expecting to have to drive.
Wait and see.
It's quite pecuilar that iOS is actually based on the BSD systems (UNIX) and how far it got from there, not always in a good way. Let's hope Android, being based on Linux, will copy the best, not the worst paths here.

I upgraded from a Xoom and absolutely love it! Really smooth, great battery life, and the screen is gorgeous.
My wife ow has the Xoom, so were both happy!

I'm all for android, never tried apple product before, but lately wanted too see what iPad would be like in real life.
After paying $500-600 for a tablet and return period ends, I don't want to be the one left hoping that maybe Jelly Bean will make it better. Except for screen, iPad's hardware is much less powerful then Infinity's but it runs smooth.
I really believe it's a software fault, 1 android system is made for all, which brings all the bugs.
When an apply is made for iPad it's tested on the same iPad it will be used on. As simple as that!

It isn't only the download and install of apps although that is worst. After using the xoom it is honestly just not as smooth. Yes some things are smooth and good. Like playing a game or swipping screens but things are definitely not right with this device. And it has hang issues from time to time just out of the blue. Course I have a lot of stuff going on. I have gmail, person mail, exchange mail, I have rss feeds, I have news apps. So I have quite few apps that will pull data from time to time.
But nothing I didn't exactly have setup the same on the xoom. Considering the xoom of a year old I'd REALLY expect this device to be at least as good.
Ive never owned a tab before of any kind, so this Infinity will be my first. I dunno how it's gonna be for me, but I hope I don't have as bad of I/O errors some seem to have.

I think tablets are becoming like PC's. You don't need the newest core i7 to run most trivial tasks on windows 7 lag free.
You don't need the prime to have a smooth internet experience, use 99.9% of the apps on the market, or in general use ICS smoothly. Do you want the IPS screen + the 1080p support? If so then buy the prime if you desire those things.
I think you are all right. To do web browsing, the Tegra 3 does not seem to perform better than the Tegra 2 (at least, this is what I can see when checking the youtube videos, I couldn't test for real as the Prime WIFI problem nether let me try it in a computer shop !), and that's a surprise as the 5th core of the Tegra 3 was told to be increasing the web browsing experience.
I will not be playing with my tablet, not displaying 1080p videos (not even 720p), if I watch videos they will be small size ones.
All I want to do is browsing the web, displaying photos, modifying Excel / Word files, and in rare case using the tab as a GPS.
But I'm a bit disapointed by ICS : even with a Tegra 3, web browsing is not as smooth as on an ipad.
I don't want to talk about IOS / Android differences, we all know them (I don't want to buy an iPad, I prefer using Android), but I need something perfectly smooth and for now ICS still isn't. I know that Android applications may not be smooth because a lot of them are developped with no Google programming rules respects (so many apps are laggy...) but I was expecting ICS to have all the basic applications such as the web browser to be so well optimised that they could be as smooth as on the ipad.
If anyone else could give me its opinion on how browsing the web does perform on the Xoom compared to the Prime, I would be happy ...

Browsing with ICS on my Xoom is better than HC. Still not totally smooth, though, to be honest which dissapoints me. I just bought a half-priced Lenovo K1 for the grandkids, and it felt just a bit smoother on HC than Xoom on ICS.
But the Xoom works great with ICS, has strong GPS and WiFi (better than Prime and K1), and half the price of the very flawed Prime. Can't imagine why anyone would buy a Prime given all its problems, and it's going to be obsoleted soon anyway.
Not trying to stir up stuff - I almost bought a Prime, and am very glad that I missed Amazon's first pre-order.

I owned a prime and switched to the xoom. I like the Xoom much better because everything works. I had issues browsing with the prime because of the terrible wifi. The hardware in the prime is bad and the connection is unreliable. Aside from the wifi issues, the browsing experience would be very comparable. The prime is not enjoy faster browsing the web. So, the fact that it suffers from wifi connection issues made the choice a no-brainer for me. I grabbed a xoom and I have no regrets. I also saved $100.

Same situation. I had tried two Prime before returing it for the Xoom. Same as you I had saved well over $100 and All of my hardware is working as it should.

I own both the Xoom and the Prime... not really comparable... the Prime is much faster / smoother and has a better screen.
Don't get me wrong the Xoom is still very nice.. but there is a reason I handed my wife the Xoom and got a Prime for myself

For now I am a bit disapointed as I live in France and there we don't have the possibility to update to ICS yet ... 3.2.1 is quite laggy and slow, I don't like it a lot. But I do really like the Xoom physical design, excellent (just a bit heavy but that's OK).
Just root it and flash stock ICS (stacre) or EOS nightly build. You won't regret it.

Its not bad, its just a standard LCD screen.
When compared to an IPS screen on a transformer, xyboard, iPad, or nook tablet you can really see the difference and I'll admit, I get somewhat jealous of those screens.

why don't you just try the xoom in a shop? Battery is really fine, should be really hard to drain it in less than a day...
about the display: the contrast is a little low, everything else is okay. If you don't place it right next to a device with a better screen, you won't notice it, at least I don't.

Haven't tried a Prime but the Xoom has really surprised me in a positive way, especially since ICS custom roms became available. It really is a great device - a tad on the heavy side but unless you're walking around with it all the time you'll hardly notice. Long lasting battery and screen is good in full daylight and in complete darkness.
Så bare tag en Xoom
im gonna give Prime another try, if I can get a replacement within a few days.
only thing im concerned about going for Xoom is the screen now.

Im happy. The Prime is of course a better tablet if everything worked from the start, but when Im spending what is like 900 us dollars on a tablet (Danish taxes included = highest in the world) it has to REALLY awesome and flawless..
The xoom i got for like 300 us dollars (2nd hand), almost as new, really surpriced me. With ICS, and overclocked to 1.2-14 on stock voltage, its really nice!
I can live with the screen quality. But my next tablet will have an OLED screen, so I'm guessing I will look into Samsung later this year.
My advice is. Go for the Xoom if you can find it cheap, and money for value is an issue. Go for the Prime if you dont care about money and is willing to RMA it alot if youre not lucky.

1) How is ICS official release shaping up for you, any nagging issues or lost functionality?
2) I've found a used Xoom (wifi, ics) at the same price (~$330) as a new Transformer TF101. There are dozens of comparisons, I know, but I can't get over the fact that the local B&M's seem to have more than a few open box asus returns due to issues. That being said should I consider getting the xoom at this point?
3) Have any of you experienced any long-term reliability issues? I've searched and searched, and it seems somewhat few and far-between. Big things I am after is stand-alone GPS performance, and screen with minimal light-bleed.
4) Forget xoom completely, and wait? But for what?

So, one of the big perks with the Motorola Xoom is it's easily unlocked bootloader. This gives you the obvious advantage of NOT having to run the stock software. If just running stock is more what you're into, I would look at other options in the field, personally.
Current ICS based roms, however, have fleshed out very nicely for our device. There doesn't appear to be any lost functionality or issues and I've been quite happy since I started flashing them. Speed seems as good, if not better and my fantastic battery life just keeps getting better.

Can't say I'm crazy about the Transformer, but that's just me. The only real selling point it has over the Xoom, as far as I can see, is the ability to attach the keyboard. Personally, if that's something I really needed, I would have looked into an Apple Air (or a beefy netbook).

Long term, no. I was a day-one 3g model adopter and some of those fresh off the assembly line models had some questionable build issues. Mine, for example, would made this odd creaking noise if you applied any pressure to the left side of the screen and the seam between the speakers/camera and the component cover was a little squishy if I were to press it the right way.
So I took mine back to Verizon and my replacement was flawless That is, until I dropped it in the fountain the atrium at work while trying to avoid hitting some kids running around, and the thing stopped working. Thankfully, Verizon sorta had my back and we hopped on a call with Motorola and the Verizon CSR more or less strong armed Motorola into giving me a free replacement.
4) Forget xoom completely, and wait? But for what?

I can't say what to wait for, but you are looking at picking up a device that has been discontinued. It has, in my experience, great performance and I don't personally plan to replace mine for at LEAST another year or more. If you're OK with that, you'll be getting a lot of tablet for the $300 mark, even if it's not the top of the line model.
My guess is the Xoom will still be a solid option for another 12-18 months for those who don't need to have the super-duper top of the line everything. Sure, there will be a few games that will work better on new hardware, but the core of what you would use a tablet for would likely not benefit from newer models in that time frame.

Like I said above, the biggest think to remember is that you would be buying a device that has been discontinued. So in very short order, it will be extremely hard to find chargers, docks, cases, etc as most places will have liquidated their inventory. My tip would be to make sure you buy anything you even think you may want for this thing when you buy it.
The only thing that I don't like in the Xoom is the screen which has some ghosting effect with some colors.
Compared to my Galaxy S2 screen it has a lot less quality, but at least it doesn't hurt eyes of you use it for a long time (amoled screens seem more tiring to me).
Materials are very good, it is very solid and ICS is amazing.
If you have ever seen a tablet with Honeycomb... forget about that! Ice Cream Sandwich is a lot faster, smother and stable.
Asus Transformer has a better screen (as far as I know, I have never seen it) but worse materials.
And not only it has not official ICS. It doesn't even have a decent ICS custom ROM.
If you are lucky to get Xoom for a good price it's awesome, ICS feels so smooth
One thing about the Transformer 1 is that the screen is better except for a huge amount of light bleeding. I returned mine for that reason and got the Xoom. Very happy with it.
Consider the Samsung Galaxy or the Transformer Prime. I got the Prime and its good, quad core, thin and a very good screen with no light bleed. Best buy here has them in stock.

I currently have Prime and thinking about selling to get either this or Asus Infinity. Haven't made up my my mind yet. The biggest turn off for me with A700 is the lack of any upgrade (except screen) over A510.

Agree. Absolutely amazing. Finally back at Android again after having some really bad experiences with the prime. Bought an iPad 3. Was impressed by the screen but missed the Android OS. Feel like I'm back home Impressive screen, nice performance. My only gripes:
Screen sensitivity : even at the highest sensitivity setting it fails sometimes to register some taps .... Guess i need to get accustomed to this and tap a little harder. Then again...
Rendering of web pages: in general web pages look awesome, but on pages with a lot of text and/or graphics you see the dynamic rendering of the fonts/graphics to a higher resolution. Sometimes you need to wait before things are readable.
But all in all, a great tablet.
I'm glad to hear you guys are enjoying it. The one concern I had was screen brightness...any issues there to report? I don't really plan to use it outside.

The auto-brightness doesn't seem to work terribly well. Seems to put the screen "dimmer" than I personally care for.
I reset it to a static "30%" brightness or so, and it's fine for me now.
I did go out in direct sunlight (beautiful day out), to test screen readability. Cranked up to 75% and was good to go.

I am thrilled with the screen of my acer. I have always hated Acer products, and I have lots of tablets. But this tab is freaking great. Real solid build. Cant say enough about the screen. Just overall, the best Tab I have ever had...

Good to hear. I have a 16GB Gtab 10.1 right now and my biggest gripe is the screen resolution and storage. It sounds like this is a bargain at $450.

I had fears of lag too from the YouTube video that was out pre release. While I was syncing the first 12 hours there was some noticeable delay. Especially with app drawer. But 36 hrs in I can say its as snappy as I would expect it to be, especially for 450 and a 10 to 11 hour battery life. Can't beat the performance for the price

With a good light situation (outside for example) the cam is fine.
Inside pictures seem to be a little grainy.
I'm noticing a lot of lag using ezPDF Reader Pro. I almost considered returning it to Acer until I saw the 25% restocking fee. I've been using an iPad 1 for the last few weeks to view Army regs in PDF format, and the iPad was much quicker at page-turns, etc.
One of the YouTube reviews talked about a possible update from Acer to optimize performance. Pure speculation, I'm sure, but that would be nice. I also heard that the Andriod OS isn't optimized for quad-core processors yet.

If the reviewer got the test unit from Acer, perhaps that was said to avoid upsetting Acer and future test units? Seems the Tegra 3 gpu was not intended for such high res displays, based on benchmarks compared to the A5X. Not seeing how this can be fixed by software, unless the actual data is downsampled to lower the load on the GPU (defeats the purpose of the high res, but would people really notice?).
I am seriously considering the upgrade from the Prime to the Infinity. Its going to cost me $125-150, but already have the dock so that will make things less painful.
Is the screen, slightly faster processor, and overall experience worth the jump?

I've found my Infinity to be much more stable. My Prime was incredibly unstable and had very bad screen corruption and flickering on the later firmware, downgrading the firmware fixed that issue on the Prime though. The screen on the Infinity is very nice, but you probably won't notice the increased resolution except with text where it makes a very (to me) noticeable difference. The latest firmware update has seems to make multi-tasking smoother and given it a general sensation of being faster. I have a Nexus 7 and Jelly Bean makes everything very liquid smooth feeling so I have every expectation of Jelly Bean giving that same feel to the Infinity. The less tapered edge on the Infinity is actually very nice. It's more comfortable to hold and the micro sd card is completely inside the frame.
All said and done I think the Infinity is everything the Prime should have been. If you can upgrade for <$150 difference then go for it.

All of my current applications work well. I have an issue of upgrading from a OTA but others do not so its my specific issue. I have been able to upgrade utilizing the file Asus posts on their service site for each update. As to my Ipad vs. TF700T the screens are for all practical purposes identical. Speed of all functions other than web browsing are identical (I have several applications that are the same function but for IOS or Android). Web browsing is not a tie my Ipad3 is more fluid than the TF700T. I expect that will even out with the release of Jelly Bean for the TF700T. I am waiting until that upgrade to see but if equal after Jelly Beans release then most likely my Ipad3 will be sent to Ebay to get some extra cash for the next Asus tablet release in 2013!

Thanks for the feedback. My prime has been rock solid, other than the app stutter / bluetooth issues that most have experienced. I normally upgrade every 18-24 months. Trying to justify the 7 month upgrade here. Thanks.

Glad to here the positive experience when compared to the ipad.
I too upgraded for EUR 105,- and it's worth every cent!
The screen is to much better and sharper. Reading forums in portrait mode is no problem now. On the prime it often got to crappy to read and I had to zoom in.
Furthermore it feels faster and it's definitely more stable.Finally no more Wifi issues and SD card won't eject anymore.
Also HDMI port is better designed.

I upgraded and received my Infinity yesterday. Overall, it is a much nicer tablet. I really think this is what the prime should have been when it launched. I have much better wifi and GPS reception, and the screen is much nicer to look at. Another thing that most people aren't mentioning is that the SD card actually fits in the tablet now!
That being said, I'm still having problems (even after the .26 update) running ShadowGun. The game works fine it I've just rebooted the tablet, but after several applications have been launched, I can't get past the first shot or two before the game freezes. You can still hear the game playing in the background, but the screen bounces back and forth between 2 frames. Maybe someone has a fix?
Anyway, yes, I am happy coming from the Prime.

I never owned a Prime (cancelled pre-order) so can't compare the two but from all the negative reports from the users, I can definitely say that the 700 is the most worthy successor to the 101. This is my gaming tablet and with just a few exceptions will be loaded with nothing but Tegra 3 games and full HD apps. The speed and resolution of the 700 is just right for 1080p movies, it plays the streamed .mkv files like it was coming from the sdcard! So smooth and lag free.
No way the Prime's 1280x800 can match the 700's display, no contest there but of course there will be an additional power drain to contend with so power regulation is a must.

I exchanged and updated my 201 for 700 this week. Other than having an issue doing and OTA update (which is a serial number issue again with ASUS! I was able to update manually with no problem) I am very happy I did so. In the last 48 hours I have not had any issues, which I always did with prime. I use mine for work and play although I do not really play intense games on the device. WIFI is tons better and GPS is rock solid. I did compare my screen with my daughters ipad 3 and even she was impressed with the quality. She is an apple fanatic but even she sees where being locked down in the apple OS world has its limitations as compared to android. Glad she learned something in college!

I finally pulled the trigger and sold my Prime for the Infinity on Craigslist today. Went to Best Buy hoping to find tf700 with no luck. Fortunately for me the employee I was speaking to was very friendly and found one available at one of the other bb locations 23 miles away! Though a display model I still wanted it. I purchased it ahead of time and drove 23 miles to pick it up. When I got there. They took it off the display and showed me the scratch marks on the back plate and the slab of adhesive they used to keep the tablet connected that they couldn't peel away. Then I noticed that the label says tf201!!!! Mother [email protected]#ker!! The employee that said that they had one available mistakenly thought that that was the tf700 because it was so similar!!! The employee explained it to me and apologized. I said I drove for 45 mins to get here and was assured that you guys had the tf700!!! I was very upset. The guy was scared and looked around... finally he found one in the store!!! It was reserved for someone else that paid online. I ended up with a new tf700 and not a display model!!! Lol Apparently the person that ordered online had cancelled his order after checking the system and I was very fortunate to come out of BB with a brand new tf700!! So far loving the new toy.

I exchanged my C1 Prime at Best Buy which GPS was dead when I bought it and ended up with a C7 Infinity. Wifi/BT/GPS were great, however vibration, haptic feedback was dead out of the box. Attempted trying to toggle the settings but still nothing on power up/down, etc. It also couldn't find the OTA when I tried to update and I had to install .26 from my microsd which I take it is this issue here.
Took it back yesterday. Pretty bummed since my major issue with 201 was wifi/BT problems using my headset and music/netflix but it seemed good on the 700. Overall it seemed better than the Prime but that's not saying much .. Asus still has some pretty bad QC in my opinion
I've had my Infinity for a week now since I got my prime refunded. To echo a previous comment in this thread, this is what the prime should have been and what I expected it to be. Everything just works and the screen is absolutely beautiful. My prime never got a GPS lock, and running Bluetooth to my Thunderbolt for Tablet Talk would make my internet slow so an unusable crawl on the Prime. Here on the infinity I can stream music while browsing the web or XDA and texting. Used it successfully a few times for navigation while tethered; got a GPS lock nearly as fast as my phone locks. Plus it fits more snugly in my 201 dock than my Prime did. My only gripe is that the battery has not been quite as epic as my Prime, but it has been more than sufficient for daily use.

I'm sure you're already aware, but if not...that if you purchased your Prime tablet from Best Buy you can actually exchange it for an Infinity by way of One year manufacturer warranty.

How is internet browsing faster? Thats my problem with the prime sluggish.

This is what I was expecting when I bought Prime. GPS and Wi-Fi work great. Screen crisp and clear. Camera takes really good pics. Had 2 primes, both had terrible picture quality. Gone into settings a few times and did update check, won't show one. No biggie, I'll d-load and push. Rooted fine.
Only complaint is, battery doesn't last as long as primes did.
Overall, very pleased. Especially since I had best buy damage warranty and they gave me Infinity free.
This is what the prime should have been! WFI,GPS, works. Had it for 24hrs, so far so good
I never really had problems with my prime (except bad GPS and pixels), but I exchanged it anyways for an infinity. I have to say the infinity is really what the prime should have been, the screen resolution is amazing, it's fast, GPS works and I even notice better wifi connections. I had to root the prime and tweak the hell out of it to get it to perform anywhere near what the infinity does right out of the box. Oh and its the first asus tablet I've had the does not have dead pixels.
I think the tf700's tegra3 even if it's clocked at 1.6ghz is struggling with its FHD's resolution. The lag is so much noticeable when browsing and scrolling the screen. Do you think there is still a solution to this lagginess on the next update ? The tf300 is still having some performance issue even after the JB update so im kinda skeptical if it will make the device faster. I think Asus shouldn't have released this tablet with FHD until the tegra4 comes out, on paper the tegra is an awesome SOC with its quad core + 1 and 12 core GPU but numbers doesnt translate to a faster device. What do you guys think?
Think that its simply a software problem. All the hiccups you see happen across all android tabs running ICS. Once JB gets here AND is optimized, we will be fine. I stress the whole optimization part because it always takes time and more updates after something as big as JB to get all the kinks out.

So i did some further research why the nexus 7 is slightly faster than our tf700 then i came across this review about i/o nand flash . Although the nexus 7 is slightly faster than our infinity its is still rather slow. That comes to my conclusion that the i/o issues plaguing the asus tablets cannot be improved due to a slower components.

The thing "I" (or "me" if you will) notice is..............
Using a paid app store utility (rooted) I have forced all the Tegras cores "on" to max clock.
I'm thinking the GPU is now working harder to render because the CPU is really pumping.
Of course this just eats battery time, yet I don't care because I'm plugged in 99% of the time.
Lately the browsers I've been battling with in the past seem to have been not shutting me out.
Also when scrolling the screen I haven't seen any stuttering...been pretty happy about this.
Being constantly tethered to the AC brick is a bumout however.
Yeah, the random read/write on these SSD drives is terrible along with the write/read in benchmarks. The ram I don't think really matters as much, but Asus dropped the ball on the SSD. SSD problems can be hidden with an OS that manages the ram really well though (as long as you always have more ram avaialble than being used).
The wireless radio really does seem to be a huge power hog and have mediocre reception. I lose bars in places my ipad gets full reception.
Samsung really benefits from being a premier LCD, Solid-State-Chip, and now CPU manufacturer. The Exnyos is also an impressive CPU in terms of power/battery life (versus Tegra). Samsung is the only one with commercially avaialble 30 nm Ram chips (which are cheap and overclock better than any gaming ram on the market) and their 830 SSD drives are the very best out there.
I think the problem with Tegra is that battery life is rather overwhelming and I feel that they rushed to market in order to be the first quad-core CPU. The architecture seems to have problems with battery life. The Tegra 3 was amazing when the original Transformer PRime was released but with recent CPU's like the Qualcomm S4 Dragon beating it in battery life and Exnyos Quad-core doing the same, it has a tough job.
However, raw tablet power is a means not an end. I almost always use power-saving while not docked (and will underclock once jellybean comes out and there is a good rom for it). The main problem right now is really the awful I/O. Asus can make most of the problem disappear by utilizing the ram better to create the illusion of smoothness.

I keep seeing all of the specs compared, etc, but at the end of the day, I think that the TF700 runs pretty well. Most of the time during normal use, the device is not being stressed to the point where these "flaws" are apparent. Is it going to slow down while installing 10 apps - sure - but who cares? How often do you have 10 apps installing?
The games I've used run great and look *awesome*. Text is super clear - contrast is simply amazing, etc.
Now, QC is certainly an issue for Asus - I can't deny that one! I just hope I'm still so happy with the device 6 months or a year from now... But for now, I'd take a TF700 over a Samsung Note any day, even knowing of the "issues" with the TF700. The Note is simply not a a good fit for what I want, regardless of how well it's build inside (or out).

Lots of people complain about IO and other problems, things are slow to respond, etc.
It all comes down to knowing your device. Yes if its reading or writing it will be slow to do other things. If your doing mainly one thing at a time, or using optimized apps, its awesome!
Yes, stock browser sucks. use dolphin or boat. 90% of your problems solved right there. Kill / delete / remove stock bloat that kills your ram and CPU, there goes another chunk of the problem. Know your tablet, streamline what you can, dont wait for Asus to fix the problem, be proactive in making sure everything is running smooth.
So the i/o problem is simply because of the slow nand chip then why are some people saying that we just dont have a properly compiled firmware. So this is basically a dead end for our tablet as this is a hardware issue and cant be fixed by just slapping a JB . That explain why the tf300 is still slow after the update.
Running off of a class 10 microsd, using bsplayer, I can play back a ~10GB 1080p MKV without issue...
I think nobody really knows if hardware or software. Many are hoping it to be software so can be fixed. Certainly not ics or jb issue as other tabs with ics is as stable as ipad.
If true though one statement gives a little hope (hence i am still checking this forum) is someone claimed with custom rom zeus he got rl benchmark down to 20's, which is what galaxy note 10 runs and never seen anr message. So maybe really software.

My Infinity is lag free. I even downloaded 10 apps at once, as as a previous poster suggested it caused lag. I had ZERO lag! I am issue free here guys. So I am a verklempt, when I see some say they have problems with their units.

I'm the one, on the Zeus v3 my RL benchmark was 22 overall and on the new Zeus v4 I got RL benchmarch down to 19 overall. Random writes is still slow but SQL lite is fantastic. So I do think software is the key to getting the tablet performance you were hoping for. We have just begun to scratch the surface with this beast.

Jetrosky also showed his result being 20 in balance mode. Asus should simply use Zeus as their next firmware or hire Zeus. But yes with thus I believe it's not hardware but software. Asus needs better programmer.
