[i9023] All stock but no OTA yet - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there something wrong with my phone?
I'm on a completely stock i9023 with 4.0.4. Reverted back from a heavily modded one a few days back to be able to experience my first-ever OTA but it seems like I'm the last person who'll ever get it! :crying:
Any ideas folks? Or is the OTA supposed to roll out gradually over devices?
Thanks in advance!
p.s., I cleared that Google framework thing but still no luck!

OTA updates typically roll out over several days or even weeks, and that's assuming they aren't halted due to bugs or other problems.

try clearing framework a couple of times and keep rebooting when u do!

Type in *#*#2432546#*#* after cleaning! then it checks the google servers for the update!

No luck guys, sadly. :crying:
Oh well, maybe tomorrow..
Thanks for your help though. :good:

I just got mine about an hour ago. Setting Google Now. Weather and News widget is not working.

Well like what it said early it takes time to toll out the update to everyone. I got the OTA ice cream sandwhich update about 2 almost 3 weeks after it was released. Google just needs time to push it out to every phone so don't stress out about it to much.

Just wait for a little while. Or flash one of the customĀ“s ;0)

No OTA for mee too

Here is what I did...
(Note this is just if you don't get the notification saying the update is ready and you have the requirements to update)
1> Make sure your on stock 4.0.4
2> Make sure you have Nexus S variant i9023 & i9020T
3> Check for an update just in case if one is there ignore all the below steps
4> Go to App>All>Scroll down to "Google Service Framework">Clear its Data
5> Go back to System update in about phone and check for an update (It should say something crazy like "Last checked 1/01/1970
6> Download & Install
7> Enjoy!

You have toe clear data, force stop the services framework, and reboot. The force stopping it is very essential. It worked on my i9023 and it didnt without force stopping the services framework!

The force clear and check didn't work for me.
I had do wipe data, reset to factory defaults, and after reboot, voila!

Update?

Decided to check for updates and there finally appeared to be one so I started the download & it took about 10mins or less then it asked to install so I hit ok then it said it would restart the phone. I was excitedfor about 10 seconds until I noticed everything was still the same and it said no update was applied at this time... Was this an official update n if so is there a way to apply it without having to wait on the 24hr update timer?

Sorry to say but I don't know much users here who use the stock 2.1 Eclair unless they are returning their phones. As much as I know, everyone here hates how Samsung and AT&T leave their customers out in the cold for updates and any information on upcoming updates. Maybe someone else here will give you an answer hopefully.

got it thanks. its re-downloading now. i figure its updating to the old Build Number ECLAIR.UCJH7 because since i reset a few days back, getting rid of a rom I noticed it just says Build Number: ECLAIR
and my baseband version is I897UCJF6. used to be ucjh7
You must have been excited, seeing how you posted to XDA that there's an update before you knew what was what...

Date at the top of that is 11/02/2011.
On a side note, the middle section where it says, "If you have downloaded & upgraded previously with Kies Mini, an automatic update to build 11011_4 may occur." I just started Mini Kies and it updated to 11014_6 so maybe there is something to it.
For some reason, link is not showing any information. Any idea?

Someone at Samsung realized people were getting excited again, and the update isn't coming out anytime soon. Just a guess though.

Man...
Still failed install after the download over the air. so i did it through kies mini and it was .ucjh7
I wouldnt have gotten so excited if i paid attention to my notes that i had ucjh7 pre-flash and just "eclair" post factory default reset. Yet somehow still had a glimmer of hope that 2.2 would update after ucjh7, assuming one has to be installed b4 the other/in order. Sort of annoying the link was taken down about the Q/A on 2.2 being available. I just clicked the circle to vote "very dissatisfied" hah
Im still planning to trade mine in for the atrix if its in store by 3/9.. If not, I havent quite decided what other path I will take...

Is there a way to force updates?

Just wondered if there was a way in which I could force an update? I've had to revert back to stock firmware and am currently on 2.3.1. Ive tried the CHECKIN method but nothing happened. Any suggestions guys?
you can manually push the update through recovery located here:

Do look for the thread titled '2.3.3 link' though. It's rather easy to apply it manually.

I have done that method before but I think it screwed up my mms hence I would rather receive it OTA just incase. Are they still pushing out the 2.3.2 update for us that are yet to receive 2.3.3?

Probably not. They would probably send you the version that goes from whatever you're on to 2.3.3 since the Android 2.3.3 URL thread has like three different versions.
The alternative is to flash a custom ROM such as CM7, Axura, GingerS, MoDaCo which features 2.3.3 (unsure about GingerS)
I still don't get the 2.3.3 OTA either. Since I had some problem when I was using N1 and tried to update it manually, I decide to wait for OTA in my NS. I am curious why it can take so long time to push out an OTA?
Two reasons: network strain and damage control in the event of Problems.
I'm waiting for the OTA to come through to my other halves new NS which we got yesterday to update from 2.3.1 to either 2.3.2 or better still 2.3.3 but, guess it ain't happening any time soon :-(

Force update in post #2 that I linked. This is the same file you would get from the OTA. All the OTA does is bring a dialog box saying its available for you and it goes to that link. The link was achieved using aLogCat. It's directly from *.google.com

Picked up my NS on saturday (so it should be running 2.3.1 right?) Anyway when I go into settings-about phone-system update it says i have latest version. I am fairly confident this is not so. So how do I force update to my NS?

Search for the thread titled '2.3.3 link' and do it manually or wait until you get it pushed down to you. There it's no way to force it OTA (over-the-air)

I got mine weeks ago... If you are rooted you won't get it. Just download the official rom and radio from here.
I am not rooted!! As stock as they come
Verify your build number
Setting -> About Phone -> Software Information and look at build number. Let us know what that is.
Also (not saying your dumb or didn't know to do this, but you didn't specify if you have tried or not) try a force check.
Settings -> Software Update -> Check new
My build number is 1.13.605.7
I have called verizon 4 times, and htc ones and everyone just keeps tellimg me thats is coming and just to wait. Come on....21 days
I have also tried all the tricks, battery pull, setting phone on 1x and even dailing that *#*#2..... number thing. The only thing is refuse to do is a factory reset only because i have read in other forums that people called htc and they had them do a factory reset only do have no result.

To be 100% honest, I never had issues with the stock radios at all (3G only area.) So with no reboots, I wanted to stick with what worked, despite the 'fix' that rolled out, then the fix for the fix (this OTA.)
I'll give it a shot.

Where can this be found? I'm doing a few searches, but would like to keep root and up to the current ota so I stop getting these firmware updates.
They try to install on their own, and lock the phone, have to clear cache to get my phone back working.

When could our 9020A get the same ICS update?

Is Google working on it or they never ever had planned to do it for 9020A?
btw since the update for 9020T is out, I assume what google need to do is simply replacing radio in the ROM according to 9020A specification.
Is it all that hard?
I think they need to fix the battery bugs first.

This. They've put the brakes on the i9020t update already; one suspects they aren't about to start rolling out an update to the i9020a until they're confident it works right.

I flashed the ICS 4.0.3 for 9020T (with radio replaced by KF1), what I observed is the battery lasts longer that it did back in 2.3.6 ages.

They only stopped the rollout in a few counties. The US rollout on the i0920t continues.
I hope my 9020a gets it soon. I do have the 9020t's with the right radio in the mean time.
I bought this phone because I looked forward to getting quick updates. I had the captivate on att and went mad waiting for updates. Now there is talk other devices from sony may get it soon. So help me if they get an official ICS before I get mine....

Probably not, they don't like to fix actual problems. They prefer to make minor tweaks and such to their bloat instead. You didn't want your device to actually work as advertised did you?

You guys can .... SAFELY... check your device to see if you're vulnerable to the hack on this site.
http://www.androiddoes.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-ussd-hack-test/
Read up on the page.. it says something about if Your Dialer screen coming up and your IMEI is being displayed on it then you have the Vulnerability.. if nothing happens.. or if your dialer comes up with nothing being displayed then you're probably safe.
