When could our 9020A get the same ICS update? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is Google working on it or they never ever had planned to do it for 9020A?
btw since the update for 9020T is out, I assume what google need to do is simply replacing radio in the ROM according to 9020A specification.
Is it all that hard?

I think they need to fix the battery bugs first.

This. They've put the brakes on the i9020t update already; one suspects they aren't about to start rolling out an update to the i9020a until they're confident it works right.

Could you please educate me what's the battery bug?

I flashed the ICS 4.0.3 for 9020T (with radio replaced by KF1), what I observed is the battery lasts longer that it did back in 2.3.6 ages.

They only stopped the rollout in a few counties. The US rollout on the i0920t continues.

I hope my 9020a gets it soon. I do have the 9020t's with the right radio in the mean time.
I bought this phone because I looked forward to getting quick updates. I had the captivate on att and went mad waiting for updates. Now there is talk other devices from sony may get it soon. So help me if they get an official ICS before I get mine....

If it were an official GB update devs would have came all over this section and it would be a sticky, white mess. And then a bunch of little kids would come in a month and say "HOLY POOPCRAP BROZ I JUS GOT N UPDAYT!!!!!11!"

Well this post has little life so far, perhaps no dev have seen it yet? Don't know, I guess I am exited because because of the leaks for 2.3.5 that are out there already
Check your baseband version. If it is like ucke3, then you probably downloaded the uckh1 update that was released ota kinda recently.
Stupid ATT i thought they promised to give an OTA update of gingerbread last month itself but like always you cant trust their words.
Update - I have some software update that is going on right now, wonder what is this all about file is 14542kb which is doubt will be GB

That's UCKH1
anyone now if you loose root ?
Yep, thats the pre-lim update that came a week or so ago (for me anyway) I installed it and actually my InFuse felt a bit speedier but it didn't break my root or anything either. So I'd say go for it (at your own risk of course) mileage may vary.
It's the UCKH1 baseband update and possibly bootloader update aswell.
I tried playing by the rules and using this updated version for about 3 days. Battery life was horrible. I had to switch to my N86 halfway through the day so it could charge V_V I would recommend getting infused. It's so much better than stock. So. Much. Better.

I didn't lose root from the last AT&T push for UCKH1 when I was running the stock ROM.

Screwed up software update

Hey guys, I was trying to run software update and got impatient when it got stuck at 24% and canceled the update. When I went to start it again, I get "Software is up to date. You can check again in 24 hrs 23 min."
The timer it gives isn't actually decrementing at all, it has said 24hrs 23 min for the last hour.
I'm guessing I can flash to it via Odin, I'm just on my linux partition for a bit for work, so I can't do that at the moment. Anyone know of a quick fix?
Also, is there a link to the official GB ROM?
Thanks so much!

Official GB for this phone is not out. There are a few ROMs though based on leaks you can try out. Check out the development forum.
Oh one of my coworkers thought it was part of the big rollout going on over the next few days... What was my phone trying to update to? haha

I'm running Infused 1.6, it probably just got confused as to which phone it was
I was using Infused 2.2 but the lack of SSL/activesync support and poor battery life scared me off.
I'm happy with Infused 1.6 but if someone has a recommendation for a decent GB ROM with working SSL, I'd be interested.
So let me get this right....
You are trying to do an OTA update while running a custom ROM?
If this is the case, it is also the reason an Update attempt failed. You cannot run an OTA update from a custom ROM.
Hope this helps.

Did any i9020a get the ICS OTA update?

Anyone?
Many i9020t and i9023 get the OTA
But I haven't seen any i9020a get that.

Thanks.
I just found that the ROM was for T-MOBILE(TMO)
Hold on
Because of minor difference between two models, i9020a will need to go through some changes for it to function properly. I heard that if you manually update i9020a with i9020t ROM, you will either get an error or it will kill your reception

Settle down. It's been one day since Google announced that ICS is rolling out. They said it will be happening over the next month.
Patience.
Just flash the Neapolitan rom and be happy besides with that rom you don't loose cwm and still have root.

Why the i9020a is the last one.(except ns4g)
Maybe because it was the last one to come out...or maybe it is a way to keep from overloading the server. Only other thing I can think is that maybe they are working on a new radio for the att version

Probably a mixture of all these. I have an i9020a and I'm running the neopolitan ROM for now. It's great. I was on stock 2.3.6 with cwm recovery. Just wiped all and flashed it. It kept the bootloader and the radio.

The update should come sometime this month. Since thats when google said thats when i9020a will get the ota update. It also depends on where you are.

who needs the ota now when there is so many good roms out there? I think the only advantage to the ota coming out is possibly a new radio that might be better.

It may be this month but Google never said it would be this month. They have never stated when/if the i9020a version is getting ICS. There's a difference between a French website posting false information and Google actually making an announcement. JBQ (from Google) has recently said 4.0.4 is not even finished yet. So I highly doubt 4.0.5 will be released this month before 4.0.4 is finished.

Ice cream sandwich update!!!

Hey guys,
I need to update to manually update my nexus S to 4.0.3 with the available update (128MB) file. My main concern is that i dont know which version i have (means whether it's I9020T or I9020A etc.) I bought the unlocked GSM version from Best Buy US on the very day of release during my visit last year and the box had T-mobile SIM in it as well. Currently I'm not in US and my Nexus is running stock 2.3.6 unrooted with baseband: I9020XXKF1 and build no: GRK39F. Now please can someone tell me, can i go on with the update through the process mentioned here:
http://www.androidcentral.com/how-manually-update-your-gsm-nexus-s-ice-cream-sandwich
And will it give me that "recovery backlight" or "no service" or any like bug, experienced by many of the users????
The version should be on the back of the battery. Or on the box it came in (on a tag with bar codes if I remember correct).
Then just find the proper OTA for you here on xda and follow the procedure you posted.
Oh and I don't know about others but I never had a major problem. Just a couple of times the android OS kept the phone awake for a long time.

Yeah there was a Tmobile sim in the box and I9023 is for the SLCD models, right? And i'm sure that i have an SAMOLED version. So should i go on with the update??? I am tired of waiting for the updates but i'm reluctant because of those recovery and no radio after the update bugs.

The code is not on the battery. It is on the phone, UNDER the battery. I.e. remove the battery, and check the samsung sticker.

Thanks mat, got it. It's GT-I9020T, so i think it's safe to update it manually... Will try it tonight.
BTW there arent any issue or problems after manually updating it, right???

I updated Manually after I revived the OTA update but wouldn't install (my guess is due to Google throwing on the brakes) and have had no issue. If you Download the OTA zip from XDA you will have to re-root as the offical update will lock the phone again.

Interesting I came here on the same mission, to find out if it was safe to update mine.
I removed the battery and it borrowed my Dads glasses to read the label, it definitely says modelno: I9020A
I didn't actually buy mine, it was acquired by purchasing at work for a developer project, but its unlocked, didn't come with a SIM and I've used it with my t-mobile SIM back at home in the US, but I'm currently using it with great results, including USB tethering with a pre-pay O2[UK] SIM.
So which version/model does this make my phone?

[Q] ICS Over The Air Update

Hello, I am using Nexus S 2.3.6, from Malaysia.
A few of my Malaysian friends already receive Over The Air update of ICS from Google. However, although I do check for "Settings -> System updates" all the times, I always saw "Your system is currently up to date".
Is there any additional settings I need to do, in order to receive official update from Google? I prefer not to do it manually myself by downloading the ROM.
I believe that Google stop rolling out the ota.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I keep wondering when the ICS OTA update will be released. I'm using an i9020a on at&t and I'm still stuck on the 2.3.4 update. When I got to check for an update it says that the system is up to date, even though most people have 2.3.6 on their NS's.
It's probably quicker and less painful to just download and update to the latest ROM yourself, especially if you're starting to check for system updates on a daily or less-than-daily basis.

I've tried that, and I'm still stuck on 2.3.4. Can't even get 2.3.6, let alone ICS.
Might as well flash one of the many AOSP or CM9 ROMs posted out here to be honest. How fast is AT&T in approving ROM updates?
I'm pretty sure that's part of what's holding it up despite the Canadian 9020As out there...
I've flashed Kalimochoaz's CM9 alphas a few days ago and it works like a charm.

I don't know that it is at&t holding up the update, I think it's still on Google right now. I have considered flashing an ICS ROM on it, I just haven't had the time or motivation just yet.
