If it were an official GB update devs would have came all over this section and it would be a sticky, white mess. And then a bunch of little kids would come in a month and say "HOLY POOPCRAP BROZ I JUS GOT N UPDAYT!!!!!11!"

Well this post has little life so far, perhaps no dev have seen it yet? Don't know, I guess I am exited because because of the leaks for 2.3.5 that are out there already

Check your baseband version. If it is like ucke3, then you probably downloaded the uckh1 update that was released ota kinda recently.

Stupid ATT i thought they promised to give an OTA update of gingerbread last month itself but like always you cant trust their words.
Update - I have some software update that is going on right now, wonder what is this all about file is 14542kb which is doubt will be GB

That's UCKH1

anyone now if you loose root ?

Yep, thats the pre-lim update that came a week or so ago (for me anyway) I installed it and actually my InFuse felt a bit speedier but it didn't break my root or anything either. So I'd say go for it (at your own risk of course) mileage may vary.

It's the UCKH1 baseband update and possibly bootloader update aswell.

I tried playing by the rules and using this updated version for about 3 days. Battery life was horrible. I had to switch to my N86 halfway through the day so it could charge V_V I would recommend getting infused. It's so much better than stock. So. Much. Better.

I didn't lose root from the last AT&T push for UCKH1 when I was running the stock ROM.

Froyo Released?

I know the last thing we need is another FROYO thread. But my question is, isnt the 2.1 Update1 the latest thing out for our phones? If so why did my phone say that their was an update. My phone downloaded it but then it said that the update wasn't saved. I think it wasn't saved due to me being rooted. So if I'm correct their is an update out there and what should I do to remove my root.

For hopefully the LAST time in 2010.
The txt message announcing an update is for JH7. If your phone is rooted, you will get the message from time to time.
Yea, it won't let me update to it. I guess I shouldn't update then lol. will the baseband version give away that i'm rooted to a samsung rep?

Thunderbolt Update Available

I am rooted, so I am wondering if it is OK to apply this update or if it is going to break something on my phone?

You wouldn't...most custom ROM's don't want Verizon OTA updates. This is basically a re-release of the updated radios (402w_1 and 605.7) so if you've already updated your radios that's basically what you'd be getting from VZW. The question is did they actually do anything to the radios or did they just hold them while they got their LTE/eHRPD issues sorted out (I tend to lean on the latter.)
If you wanna keep root, I wouldn't recommend updating. Let the devs release it.

I would just hold off and wait until the devs get ahold of it. It might not be any different from the leaked update we have already.

The leak (if we're talking about jcase's leak) included the ROM where the OTA update doesn't (at least it doesn't appear to at 35 MB.) It does appear to be larger than just the leaked radios themselves (25.37 MB) but they updated a few other things so that probably accounts for the additional 10 MB.
We really aren't going to know anything until the devs tackle the update.zip.
I was recommended by jcase that you either can't or should not apply this update if rooted. Don't quote me though. I can't remember exactly what he said.

Thats completely true.
Do you need root to access the cache folder? Where is it exactly. Can't find it while connected to my computer by USB, or by ES File Explorer.
Could this also incorporate removal of free wifi hotspots? Isn't that ending soon? When I bought my Thunderbolt the rep told me it'd be removed via a software update in May.

Pretty sure that's only for new customers. Existing customers were grandfathered into the free wifi. I might be wrong though. I remember the rep told me something about it too when I got my TB in the mid of April.

Your rep was wrong. Once they figure out how much to charge, the free hotspot will be no more.
Saw on android police a couple of phones that were rooted attempted the update and it didn't go so well. One phone said update failed, another screwed their phone up. I'll wait.
When your rooted, your not supposed to update with OTA's. Wait for the devs to upload it...
OTA's are for squares.

Iif you're running a custom ROM, you'll most likely NOT get an update. The developer will incorporate the changes into the next ROM update.
lol i cant wait im downloading it now and will add root / busybox to it my self
this shouldn't remove the free hotspot verizon will not have to push a update to remove it they can turn it off on the back end just how the turn it on and off if you call them and add the tethering plan

No... wait for the Facebook update like last time lol. If it is anything else, it could be 2.2 update 1 (throwing out numbers) that has the Unknown Sources option for 2.2. ATT announced after Amazon App Store came out that they were going to fix that for all phones.
Or... it could just be a needed update for Kies

Hmm. I believe you. I usually fire up mini first thing in the morning and this is the first time it updated (to this version).
Is there another source for the mini Kies other than having it look for updates when first loaded?
I believe this update came out two days ago and its just android 2.2 still, not 2.3. I tested it right before updating to the leaked gingerbread.
Hmmmm... Still nothing updating on my laptop. Still on 11001_4. I also would be interested in a direct download link.

Opened Kies and it updated itself to x51_4. When i plugged my phone in, it said, "firmware version: unsupported device" I'm running the stock Froyo release.
does the new version of kies work with Infuse 4G?

Screwed up software update

Hey guys, I was trying to run software update and got impatient when it got stuck at 24% and canceled the update. When I went to start it again, I get "Software is up to date. You can check again in 24 hrs 23 min."
The timer it gives isn't actually decrementing at all, it has said 24hrs 23 min for the last hour.
I'm guessing I can flash to it via Odin, I'm just on my linux partition for a bit for work, so I can't do that at the moment. Anyone know of a quick fix?
Also, is there a link to the official GB ROM?
Thanks so much!

Official GB for this phone is not out. There are a few ROMs though based on leaks you can try out. Check out the development forum.
Oh one of my coworkers thought it was part of the big rollout going on over the next few days... What was my phone trying to update to? haha

I'm running Infused 1.6, it probably just got confused as to which phone it was
I was using Infused 2.2 but the lack of SSL/activesync support and poor battery life scared me off.
I'm happy with Infused 1.6 but if someone has a recommendation for a decent GB ROM with working SSL, I'd be interested.
So let me get this right....
You are trying to do an OTA update while running a custom ROM?
If this is the case, it is also the reason an Update attempt failed. You cannot run an OTA update from a custom ROM.
Hope this helps.

How do you get official OS upgrades on Rogers. new to SkyRocket.

I just got the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket last week. And now that ICS is starting to roll out how will Rogers release it to the phones. Is it OTA (over the air)?
I'm coming from an X10 and it had something called PC companion (a program installed on your PC) that came with it which would notify you of a OS upgrade.
Its not an official OTA release. It's been leaked add is available on the forums. Since you're with Rogers you'll have to use Clockwork Mod to install it. Are you familiar with that?

In the past it's been via the Kies software - not sure if they're moving to OTA or not. They'll announce it, lol as the poster above said... lucky to see it by Christmas
no, rogers will not have OTA, as you can see there is no OTA option to update and all future updates will be done through kies
i know because i called for this exact purpose and both samsung and rogers told me the same thing
Okay so I have to plug my phone and check KiesAir everyday or will I get some kind of notification telling me an update is readY?

LOL - Christmas is an exaggeration but Rogers/Samsung are notoriously slow. On my Captivate I had Froyo about 2 months before official Rogers (and at that time I believe GB was already out) and I had GB for at least 4, if not 6 months before Rogers. A couple months after official Rogers GB I already had ICS running on it.
Consider how long ICS has been out... We're JUST getting a leak, and an AT&T one at that.
