Update? - Captivate General

Decided to check for updates and there finally appeared to be one so I started the download & it took about 10mins or less then it asked to install so I hit ok then it said it would restart the phone. I was excitedfor about 10 seconds until I noticed everything was still the same and it said no update was applied at this time... Was this an official update n if so is there a way to apply it without having to wait on the 24hr update timer?

Sorry to say but I don't know much users here who use the stock 2.1 Eclair unless they are returning their phones. As much as I know, everyone here hates how Samsung and AT&T leave their customers out in the cold for updates and any information on upcoming updates. Maybe someone else here will give you an answer hopefully.

Go to your Settings/applications/all and clear cache for I believe is the dm app....them reboot and you should be able to check again.
Sorry I can't tell you exactly but I'm not running stock.

got it thanks. its re-downloading now. i figure its updating to the old Build Number ECLAIR.UCJH7 because since i reset a few days back, getting rid of a rom I noticed it just says Build Number: ECLAIR
and my baseband version is I897UCJF6. used to be ucjh7

You must have been excited, seeing how you posted to XDA that there's an update before you knew what was what...

Date at the top of that is 11/02/2011.
On a side note, the middle section where it says, "If you have downloaded & upgraded previously with Kies Mini, an automatic update to build 11011_4 may occur." I just started Mini Kies and it updated to 11014_6 so maybe there is something to it.

For some reason, link is not showing any information. Any idea?

Someone at Samsung realized people were getting excited again, and the update isn't coming out anytime soon. Just a guess though.

That date format is actually February 11, 2011. The page is now blank, but the date has changed to 16/2/2011. Something is going on....

Man...

Still failed install after the download over the air. so i did it through kies mini and it was .ucjh7
I wouldnt have gotten so excited if i paid attention to my notes that i had ucjh7 pre-flash and just "eclair" post factory default reset. Yet somehow still had a glimmer of hope that 2.2 would update after ucjh7, assuming one has to be installed b4 the other/in order. Sort of annoying the link was taken down about the Q/A on 2.2 being available. I just clicked the circle to vote "very dissatisfied" hah
Im still planning to trade mine in for the atrix if its in store by 3/9.. If not, I havent quite decided what other path I will take...

[Q] Update in 8,000 hours

To see if there was an AT&T update earlier then I was allowed I set the year to 2011 on accident now my phone says I can not update with the current time and date for another 8,000 hours. Is there any way to fix this besides setting my phone above December 2011 when I want to check for an update?

Yes. Download Kies Mini and use it to check for downloads. There is no mandatory wait time if you use it.

1. If you have a custom ROM, you'll never see an available update AFAIK.
2. If you want to install the official 2.2, you'll have to flash back to stock anyway.
If you just want to find out if 2.2 has been released, just check the forum.

you can reset the phone - clear all data - but that is extreme.
I believe you can also go into "manage applications" and clear data just for the software update application.
Manage Applications then Filter and Show All then clear cache for Device Management and/or Download Manager then reboot.

Is there a way to force updates?

Just wondered if there was a way in which I could force an update? I've had to revert back to stock firmware and am currently on 2.3.1. Ive tried the CHECKIN method but nothing happened. Any suggestions guys?
you can manually push the update through recovery located here:

Nope..
Do look for the thread titled '2.3.3 link' though. It's rather easy to apply it manually.

I have done that method before but I think it screwed up my mms hence I would rather receive it OTA just incase. Are they still pushing out the 2.3.2 update for us that are yet to receive 2.3.3?

Probably not. They would probably send you the version that goes from whatever you're on to 2.3.3 since the Android 2.3.3 URL thread has like three different versions.
The alternative is to flash a custom ROM such as CM7, Axura, GingerS, MoDaCo which features 2.3.3 (unsure about GingerS)
I still don't get the 2.3.3 OTA either. Since I had some problem when I was using N1 and tried to update it manually, I decide to wait for OTA in my NS. I am curious why it can take so long time to push out an OTA?
Two reasons: network strain and damage control in the event of Problems.
I'm waiting for the OTA to come through to my other halves new NS which we got yesterday to update from 2.3.1 to either 2.3.2 or better still 2.3.3 but, guess it ain't happening any time soon :-(

Force update in post #2 that I linked. This is the same file you would get from the OTA. All the OTA does is bring a dialog box saying its available for you and it goes to that link. The link was achieved using aLogCat. It's directly from *.google.com

Picked up my NS on saturday (so it should be running 2.3.1 right?) Anyway when I go into settings-about phone-system update it says i have latest version. I am fairly confident this is not so. So how do I force update to my NS?

No... wait for the Facebook update like last time lol. If it is anything else, it could be 2.2 update 1 (throwing out numbers) that has the Unknown Sources option for 2.2. ATT announced after Amazon App Store came out that they were going to fix that for all phones.
Or... it could just be a needed update for Kies

Hmm. I believe you. I usually fire up mini first thing in the morning and this is the first time it updated (to this version).
Is there another source for the mini Kies other than having it look for updates when first loaded?
I believe this update came out two days ago and its just android 2.2 still, not 2.3. I tested it right before updating to the leaked gingerbread.
Hmmmm... Still nothing updating on my laptop. Still on 11001_4. I also would be interested in a direct download link.

does the new version of kies work with Infuse 4G?

T-Mobile Update

I have a T-Mobile Update Service notification in my notifications bar. Did we just get Gingerbread? Or is this an update to my ROM (GingerClone)?
Anyone got info on it? Is it safe to update OTA while on a custom ROM?
--
Sent from Sidekick
I don't think it would be safe to update while on a custom rom. Since it's an update it would need the original rom to update from. But I'm very curious as to what it is. If it's got fixes and optimization then maybe we could build new or better pre-existing custom roms using the new tweaks.
We need someone to be a guinea pig, lol. I don't have enough experience to odin and recover from anything severe, should anything happen.
I'm odining back to stock to try to update now, and yes, you can't update with a custom rom. you must be completely stock to update. so i'll test it and post instructions.
EDIT: http://support.t-mobile.com/message/6140#6140
According to this, this update is just a bugfix, not gingerbread.
An Over the Air software update for the Sidekick 4G will be pushed to customers beginning the night of July 21.. This software update will be delivered in staggered waves, with several thousand customers receiving it each night over the next several days.
The OTA updates the software version to version T839UVKG2. This is not an operating system upgrade to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). This maintenance release includes various bug fixes and enhancements based on customer feedback.
Accept and install the update as it includes many important fixes that will improve your experience with this device.

It downloads to /cache, but I'll get the update.zip posted when I get the ota request again, as I haven't gotten it again after odining yet.

my phone never recieved the update notification?
it's a staggered rollout, so you'll get it sometime within the next few days. It won't work unless you're stock without root.
How is a /cache update applied?
(I know we will be given instructions when it's posted... I am just curious.)
That's just where the update downloads from T-mobile. It will be a regular update.zip when it is posted.
I think my phone has already downloaded the update file. Its asking to install. I don't want to install or odin. How do I stop the notification from showing up on the status bar?

Verify your build number
Setting -> About Phone -> Software Information and look at build number. Let us know what that is.
Also (not saying your dumb or didn't know to do this, but you didn't specify if you have tried or not) try a force check.
Settings -> Software Update -> Check new
My build number is 1.13.605.7
I have called verizon 4 times, and htc ones and everyone just keeps tellimg me thats is coming and just to wait. Come on....21 days
I have also tried all the tricks, battery pull, setting phone on 1x and even dailing that *#*#2..... number thing. The only thing is refuse to do is a factory reset only because i have read in other forums that people called htc and they had them do a factory reset only do have no result.

To be 100% honest, I never had issues with the stock radios at all (3G only area.) So with no reboots, I wanted to stick with what worked, despite the 'fix' that rolled out, then the fix for the fix (this OTA.)
I'll give it a shot.

Where can this be found? I'm doing a few searches, but would like to keep root and up to the current ota so I stop getting these firmware updates.
They try to install on their own, and lock the phone, have to clear cache to get my phone back working.
