Micro Scratches On Camera - HTC One S

Hello everybody,
I noteiced the HTC One S seems to lens itself to easily scratching the camera lens which is made of poly carbonate material I heard - which I believe to be very attractive to micro scratches.
I bought the phone second hand but since I got it I've always used a protective case which makes the camera no longer flush with a table or surface it's resting on.
Can anyone confirm if this will have a detrimental effect to photo quality / video quality?

Probably not, the lens cover will be too close to the lens for any of the micro scratches to actually be in focus/visible.

I just looked at my couple month old phone and see zero scratches. While the lens does protrude, the metal ring actually sticks out farther, so just resting it on a flat surface won't scratch it.

Oh man! I was wondering what material was used on the camera lens. Why couldn't it had been gorilla glass's corn whatever thing they use on the screen!? The HD7 had a lot of scratches on the camera. Surprisingly enough, none of that ever showed up on pics. I can't really tell the difference but maybe it could be clearer? Idk looks good for a phone's camera.
I don't want my baby's eye scratched up.

[Q] Camera lens

I've had this phone for about 3 weeks now, and i just noticed i have couple small thin scratches in the lens of my camera. Scratches doesnt affect picture quality yet, but if it keeps scratching at the same speed soon all pictures will be blurry.
I'm wondering is it possible to replace the protective glass in front of the actual lens. Anyone done it before? How much does it cost?
same problem here too
same problem here !
wonder if there is a protection case for the lense like a sliding mechanism to close the cam for protection like at the good old nokia 6680
There are few listings on eBay for Galaxy S camera modules, but looking at some of the pictures, they don't seem be sold with the front cover.
Anyways, why don't you put a piece of clear tape over it ? I did that few days after I received my phone. Didn't notice a difference in image quality.
I'm using Realook screen protector and it comes with camera lens protection film as well (x2). Works great.
I've had a silicon rubber bump case (covering sides and back) since end of July on my SGS and don't have any scratches at all on the lens.
I bought this after the plastic 'black-nickel effect' bezel marked in my pocket on day one of owning it.
It keeps the lens about 1.5mm away from pocket surface.
I work in the buidling trades and my pockets get full of abrasive dust.
I stopped using a screen protector after a couple of weeks when I found out screen was definitately gorilla glass. So far so good.

What I done when I had my Galaxy in its silicon case was I folded the screen wipe cloth up and placed this over the lens. The case held it in and this made sure that nothing scratched it while it was in my pocket. I quickly ditched the silicon case for a leather pouch which has a soft lining.
It's kinda pity that Samsung selected a regular glass for the rear camera lens, and not the same glass as they put on the display.
Even before I got my phone I purchased an SGP Ultra Oleophobic screen protector, It also came with a 100% clear film for the camera lense and its working great!
mine dirt is inside the glass a white tiny particle

How to best protect Camera lens?

Hi guys, i was wondering how to best protect the Camera of the DHD? Since its "looking out" of the device...
I planned to just put it in the pockets of my Jeans without any protection, but i figured that the camera lens might be damaged eventually?
So what can i do to protect the lens from beeing damaged??
i found the best way to stop it getting scratch was to get a pair of pliers and pull the lens from the housing. I dont worry about the lens getting scratched any more when i put the phone in my pocket becuase the lens is in my drawer at home
it had a detrimental effect on image quality, but it was worth it

You may as well buy a safekeep , store the phone in it , lock the damn box and never care again.
That would beat your method hands down
Hehe yeah well, i used all my phones without any protection, but im kind of worried that it will brakeaway somehow...
With the HD2 i had at least the leather thingy that came with it.
The HD2 leather bag should fit your DHD too (tried it with my dad's)
I use the HD2's leather pouch to carry around the DHD. fits perfectly.
maybe get a screen protector and cut a piece to fit the lens ??
get an otterbox defender it has a protective plastic on the lens cutout
The defender is a great case but way to heavy and bulky for a normal person. A piece of a screenprotector should offer enough protection.
Or otterbox commuter+ piece of a screenprotector

Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Some screen protectors come with an extra piece for the camera lens.
The Martin Fields Overlay Plus for example.
tbh, all the same I am not sure if the piece of plastic/glass which covers the lens will ever get noticeably damaged.
Previous experience with an Xperia X1 (built by HTC, for what it's worth), without protecting the "lens", I had no problems whatsoever with damage there.

I think something like that could affect the photos.. would'nt even try it
I purchased the Martin Fields protector and it came with a front cover as well as a camera cover. It doesn't seem to have any detrimental effect to the image quality and I feel more comfortable with it on. Only downside is that it's a pretty expensive screen protector D=

How are your camera lens holding up?

Caseless. So far so good. But I'm still paranoid about laying the phone face up. Haven't put the lens to the test and don't really want to be the first to find out how resistant it is to scratches.
Also, is the lens flush with the silver ring or does the ring give a tiny bit of clearance when laying the phone down? It's really hard to tell.
I always set my phone down face up with no case. I wouldn't want to hurt that beautiful screen! My camera lens sits inside the silver ring a tiny bit so i don't worry about it. Also just so you know, the camera doesn't sit flush to flat surfaces. The only thing really touching the surface it the outer ring.
so far so good, but got the Otterbox commuter to protect this beast. problem is I removed the case after the first day because it totally detracts from the form factor. I guess I'm gonna try and find a super slim case that also protects the camera lens like the Otterbox.

[Q] One S camera lens durability?

I searched and found a couple possible answers, but if there's already a thread on this, I apologize. Typical noob behavior.
Is the lens of the One S camera the same glass as the main display? I only wonder because I worry about the lens getting scratched up, and since this phone has such an amazing camera, it's a little more so. I'm going to be getting a screen protector for the main display, likely the Ghost Armor, but I don't want to put one over the lens of the camera, it will undoubtedly ruin picture quality.

I suggest that you get a TPU protective cover for the whole phone, in spite of a screen protector. With a good cover the camera lens doesn't touch the surface of the table, nor does the screen. I mean, the cover is about half a millimeter "taller" than the phone, so when you put the phone upside down (i.e. with the screen facing the table) the screen actually doesn't touch the table's surface.
Besides, I wouldn't use a screen protector because the antifingerprint treatment of the screen is so useful!
Sorry, I should have specified, I did get a TPU cover, I ordered 2 of the Diztronic covers (because every time I find a case I like, they stop making it, so I bought two lol). I kind of want to get one of the Incipio covers, too, just to see if I like it better.

Camera lens protector - Accessory guys, are you reading?

So its very obvious that the camera lens snags on everything and will end up scratched or broken.
I just put an Illumishield protector on the screen and I actually like it, as opposed to other screen protectors. I noticed no noticeable difference in image quality from the front cam when the protector is installed. Would some similar material work on the rear cam lens to keep it from getting all scratched up?
Can someone who knows a guy, who knows a guy, pass the message along to make a nickel sized circle of good quality PET film to stick to that huge camera lens?

As the LG G2's camera lens is sapphire, I wouldn't be surprised if the N5's camera glass is also sapphire, meaning the last thing you need to worry about is scratching or breaking it.

I hope you're right about sapphire, but until this is confirmed, I am gonna assume its cheap glass to go along with the cheap plastic.
I know some people say that the build quality is good, I personally think its a bit subpar, even compared to the N4.
I also realize that to cram these specs into a 400 dollar phone they have to cut corners somewhere.
The camera is underwhelming to begin with, so I am not counting on anything durable as far as the lens goes.
See my thread regarding the camera lens material. Well the camera lens cover. I don't think it's sapphire due to the shear size of it. The G2s is much smaller. Sapphire costs a lot.
Personally I'm going to buy a case so the lens cover is not sticking out miles to be scratched. Poor design choice for sure!!
Let us know what case you end up buying.
Slightly off topic, but for anyone concerned about this be aware that a camera lens protector needs to be severely scratched for it to affect your image quality. A thin scratch even through the center of the lens will not show up in photos.

I agree about the scratch resistance (if indeed the N5 lens glass cover is sapphire), but sapphire can break as easily as glass or even easier.
According to Corning (makers of gorilla glass) "Gorilla Glass requires about three times more force to break than sapphire after both materials have received similar wear and tear".
