[Q] Camera lens - Galaxy S I9000 Accessories

I've had this phone for about 3 weeks now, and i just noticed i have couple small thin scratches in the lens of my camera. Scratches doesnt affect picture quality yet, but if it keeps scratching at the same speed soon all pictures will be blurry.
I'm wondering is it possible to replace the protective glass in front of the actual lens. Anyone done it before? How much does it cost?

same problem here too

same problem here !
wonder if there is a protection case for the lense like a sliding mechanism to close the cam for protection like at the good old nokia 6680

There are few listings on eBay for Galaxy S camera modules, but looking at some of the pictures, they don't seem be sold with the front cover.
Anyways, why don't you put a piece of clear tape over it ? I did that few days after I received my phone. Didn't notice a difference in image quality.

I'm using Realook screen protector and it comes with camera lens protection film as well (x2). Works great.

I've had a silicon rubber bump case (covering sides and back) since end of July on my SGS and don't have any scratches at all on the lens.
I bought this after the plastic 'black-nickel effect' bezel marked in my pocket on day one of owning it.
It keeps the lens about 1.5mm away from pocket surface.
I work in the buidling trades and my pockets get full of abrasive dust.
I stopped using a screen protector after a couple of weeks when I found out screen was definitately gorilla glass. So far so good.

What I done when I had my Galaxy in its silicon case was I folded the screen wipe cloth up and placed this over the lens. The case held it in and this made sure that nothing scratched it while it was in my pocket. I quickly ditched the silicon case for a leather pouch which has a soft lining.

It's kinda pity that Samsung selected a regular glass for the rear camera lens, and not the same glass as they put on the display.

Even before I got my phone I purchased an SGP Ultra Oleophobic screen protector, It also came with a 100% clear film for the camera lense and its working great!

mine dirt is inside the glass a white tiny particle

How to best protect Camera lens?

Hi guys, i was wondering how to best protect the Camera of the DHD? Since its "looking out" of the device...
I planned to just put it in the pockets of my Jeans without any protection, but i figured that the camera lens might be damaged eventually?
So what can i do to protect the lens from beeing damaged??
i found the best way to stop it getting scratch was to get a pair of pliers and pull the lens from the housing. I dont worry about the lens getting scratched any more when i put the phone in my pocket becuase the lens is in my drawer at home
it had a detrimental effect on image quality, but it was worth it

You may as well buy a safekeep , store the phone in it , lock the damn box and never care again.
That would beat your method hands down
Hehe yeah well, i used all my phones without any protection, but im kind of worried that it will brakeaway somehow...
With the HD2 i had at least the leather thingy that came with it.
The HD2 leather bag should fit your DHD too (tried it with my dad's)
I use the HD2's leather pouch to carry around the DHD. fits perfectly.
maybe get a screen protector and cut a piece to fit the lens ??
get an otterbox defender it has a protective plastic on the lens cutout
The defender is a great case but way to heavy and bulky for a normal person. A piece of a screenprotector should offer enough protection.
Or otterbox commuter+ piece of a screenprotector

Some screen protectors come with an extra piece for the camera lens.
The Martin Fields Overlay Plus for example.
tbh, all the same I am not sure if the piece of plastic/glass which covers the lens will ever get noticeably damaged.
Previous experience with an Xperia X1 (built by HTC, for what it's worth), without protecting the "lens", I had no problems whatsoever with damage there.

I think something like that could affect the photos.. would'nt even try it
I purchased the Martin Fields protector and it came with a front cover as well as a camera cover. It doesn't seem to have any detrimental effect to the image quality and I feel more comfortable with it on. Only downside is that it's a pretty expensive screen protector D=

Camera Lens Cover?

Quick question, I got my phone today but what are you guys doing about the camera lens? It comes out so far that many of the cases don't seem to protect it.
Does it need protecting or no?
The HTC Case (striped one) I felt was more of a stylish accessory as opposed to serving any function in protecting the phone. The camera still juts out of the back.
The lens seems to be recessed slightly, I don't think I would worry about it too much.
I'm sure you could find a way to stick a very thin amount of plastic on the metal ring just around the lens to help. Not sure how that would be done though
The Martin Fields screen protectors come with a lens protector.
i have the martin fields and it is fine. do not buy the nillkin, which also claims to include a lens protector. there is a selection of lens protectors with the nillkin, but the screen protector itself does not fit well. it's cut too small.
I plan on ordering a Martin Field's protector set next week. From what I've read, they're quite good.

Many of the cases don't protect? Most of the ones I saw did, most thin TPU cases cover it just fine, mine creates a substantial lip.

Micro Scratches On Camera

Hello everybody,
I noteiced the HTC One S seems to lens itself to easily scratching the camera lens which is made of poly carbonate material I heard - which I believe to be very attractive to micro scratches.
I bought the phone second hand but since I got it I've always used a protective case which makes the camera no longer flush with a table or surface it's resting on.
Can anyone confirm if this will have a detrimental effect to photo quality / video quality?
Probably not, the lens cover will be too close to the lens for any of the micro scratches to actually be in focus/visible.
I just looked at my couple month old phone and see zero scratches. While the lens does protrude, the metal ring actually sticks out farther, so just resting it on a flat surface won't scratch it.
Oh man! I was wondering what material was used on the camera lens. Why couldn't it had been gorilla glass's corn whatever thing they use on the screen!? The HD7 had a lot of scratches on the camera. Surprisingly enough, none of that ever showed up on pics. I can't really tell the difference but maybe it could be clearer? Idk looks good for a phone's camera.
I don't want my baby's eye scratched up.

IMAK Glass screen protector

I just received my IMAK glass screen protector. Purchased this on AliExpress. Here are some photos of it and how I installed it. I used the 3 stickers to make a hinge after it's positioned correctly. That way I just have to remove the backing and then stick it. I'll just seperate my review into pros and cons.
Pros:
-The screen protector fits nicely. I chose this one because it has the little speaker cut out on top.
-It feels good because it is glass.
-It protects the screen well because it is glass.
Cons:
-It is glass so it has some thickness to it.
-Holds fingerprints more than screen itself
-It has a little orange peel so it's not crystal clear. You can see in the picture of the reflection of the light that it looks a little muddy instead of mirror like.
Overall, it's good for the price, but not perfect. Personally I'm back and forth between glass and film screen protectors. I'll give this a try for a few weeks and then make a final decision.

Those guiding stickers are ingenious, never seen them before and the idea is just so simple and clever!!
Perfect, I know what I have to do when my phone and Nillkin protector arrive.
Thanks for sharing.
That is a lot nicer than the Riffue Tempered Glass screen protector I bought on Amazon. This one is thin and has a good height but is several mm too narrow, it doesn't even cover the LCD display let alone the entire screen/glass.
the one i order covers like half of the screen lmao wtf
just ordered one like yours.
I had one similar too this, but the dust collected over front camera under the glass.
It has some glue on it, does this IMAK one used static?
Here is a link to the one i bought.
I tried many different ones but for me this is the best.
The coating is very good against fingerprints. It fits perfect on the screen.
The sides of the screen are a little bit curved down which is good for the dust.

I agree, this is the best screenprotector i have ever bought. It fits perfect and the coating feels the same as on the original screen :good::good:
Just wanted to echo everyone else about how great the Imak full coverage screen protector is. I went through four different screen protectors so far (unknown brand thin plastic one, MOFI tempered glass, another MOFI tempered glass, and finally the IMAK full coverage)
The thin plastic one came bundled with the phone and would scratch if you so much as raised your voice at it. Placed it on just as a temporary protector while waiting for the others to come from Aliexpress. It just barely covered the display and left about 1.5mm of space on the edges. The phone was accidentally smacked out of my hand once and landed on a sandy floor face down, which I later discovered upon removal of the screen protector had caused a small chip on the screen near the edge, so the protector might have absorbed some of the impact.
The first MOFI tempered glass I got was a "full coverage" one, but it arrived with notches cut out on the bottom where the proximity sensor and front camera are. The worst thing about this one was that it only had adhesive on the edges, so there was a really distracting and noticeable rainbow effect (newton rings) in the middle of the screen.
The second MOFI tempered glass was also full coverage, and this time it didn't have notches at the bottom, just a hole cutout where the proximity sensor is located. The adhesive type was the same as the previous one, edge only, resulting in the newton ring effect. It also mysteriously cracked for no reason.
The one I have on currently is the IMAK full coverage screen protector. Indisputably the best out of all of them, the protector fits exactly over the entire front glass, and instead of cutout holes at the bottom, the chin at the bottom is fully glass, blackened except for where the proximity sensor and front camera are. Full adhesive all throughout means there is no rainbow effect, and the LED notification light is even tinted slightly so that it blends in with the chin, and is invisible until it turns on! The only flaw about this screen protector (yes, there is one) is that the area underneath the front camera is too thin to apply adhesive, so as a result there's a tiny gap between the glass and phone that can let in dust after a while. The dust does not seem to affect the front camera, and I never take selfies anyway, but I have yet to figure out a good way to get the dust out of there.
I have never had a screen protector fit this perfectly, even for phones other than the Mi Mix 2. Most other screen protectors have cutouts for the proximity sensor/front camera/both, but this one blends in so well that it feels like it's not even there.
Does anyone know if this protector has a dot matrix on the screen (tiny dots that reflect)? I purchased a Misha 3D protector from Amazon which looks identical to this, and it's great except for the grid of dots across the screen.

When I tried it there were no dots, just very reflective and had a weird smudge pattern going on which ruined it.
The flossmall one posted elsewhere is so much better.
Lol those kind of screen protectors damn sucks, they are not full glue, so that make lot of reflections. The nillkin (regular tempered glass, full glue, no black borders), is perfect and cover all the display... So why buy this imak piece of ****?

After putting the screen protector on, I take a toothpick and put some glue from a Pritt-stick in the little gap underneath the camera. Not much, just enough to close the gap. When it has dried you can color it with a black whiteboard marker if you want. When you remove the screen protector you can easily rub it off. Works great for me :good:
Thanks!
Anyone tried these?

Question Has anyone found a phone case that sits flush with Whitestone Dome's camera lens protector?

I just installed Whitestone Dome's camera lens protector and my clear phone case from Amazon isn't sitting flush around the camera edges because of the protector. Has anyone found a good phone case that works well together with the protector and actually sits flush? Thanks.
Here is the camera lens protector:
[2+2 Pack] [Dome Premium Film] Galaxy S22 Ultra Flexible EPU Film Screen Protector by Whitestone, 2Pack Camera Protectors with 2Pack Film Screen Protectors - 4Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09PTJ46CT/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_KJS3PKSVQPNTY812RC38?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Now I just need a phone case to go with it because mine no longer fits.
I would recommend uninstalling the lens protector. The lens is already protected by the outer glass of the camera module. Adding another piece of glass won't give you more protection and can cause image quality problems (lens flare, ghost images, loss of sharpness).

These camera lens protectors do not cover the actual lens, they go around the edges of the camera lens, so there is no distorting of image quality. Check the link I posted. They simply protect the edges and also raises the bezel so when you place the phone face down on a surface, the camera does not make contact with the surface.

I'm using the Spigen clear TPU case with the Whitestone camera protector. It wasn't a 100% fit but the case is supple enough to mold around it just fine.
