[Q] Weird sound? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all! Just got my tf300 and I like it very much although I noticed a strange sound sometimes.
When starting an app a "whining" sound comes from "the left lower corner" but when I get back to the homescreen It goes away.
I thought maybe it's from the "harddrive" or something.
Could smebody check this on their tf300's and report back (You really have to listen quite close)
Thanks!

My tf300tg has very similar issue, strange sound(like electric), I thought it's made by internal storage. Sound comes after some time after it's fully charged. If I go to homescreen it goes away

This topic is quite old but I also realized that its the flash memory and it also goes away when getting back to homescreen

yea i got the same thing on my tf300t but i am quite sure it comes from the dock, if you press the bottom against your ear (where you connect the power cable) you can hear the buzzing. Im guessing it caused by capacitors? If anyone got a fix i would love to hear it as it tend to annoy me a bit

My left speaker does not work as well. Considering replacing but I have no light bleed, do not know if it is worth risk.

I have this problem also. My right speaker no long works but the headphone and HDMI works fine.
I think the only thing to do is an RMA at this point??

I'm in the same boat. I got my rma from Asus, but I have no confidence in their ability to support this product. I have to send it to them next week, and I'm sure my feelings about this tablet will turn sour during the wait period to get it back. Since I have no other hardware issues, I'm dreading that my tablet will return to me with a new problem(s). :-(

I think it's software related not hardware. I lost my left speaker too but it's back! I have been flashing Roms all day and clearing user data and all. I never tested the speakers until tonight and both are at default levels (sounds equal on both side). I also flashed the netformer experimental kernel. So I have prime 1.3_us with netformer kernel. Not sure what fixed it but I will monitor it.

This boat is crouded.
I too have the problem with speaker imbalance. When playing music I can watch the speaker output gauge thingy and it does not match what is coming out of the speakers. The right side is definitely louder. Or the left is less loud. I don't know which statement would be correct since I don't know the correct sound output. Apparently this is a common problem. I sent my tf101 for repair after one day of ownership. Mailed yesterday. I will let you know if they fixed the problem. You would think there would be some sort of quality control on this. I guess a lot of units would not pass inspection. Anyone else send theirs in and get it back yet?

2 problems- Common or not?

Not really serious problems but problems nonetheless.
1. Sometimes (randomly), when the volume is up, I may do something like say, open a tab in the browser which will cause that ping sound. After that though, the you can hear the speaker still muffling. Is it supposed to happen?
2. When the tablet itself is on charge, does anyone find the upper half of the tablet getting warm? Not burning but warm. Only on the upper far left and bottom half is the tablet the same (temperatures). I was only browsing but the tablet was laid down on the sofa. Is this common?
Thanks

I've not had the issue with the browser but I have had the heat. It is not uncomfortable but is noticible
Rather than make a new thread, I'll ask here,
What can be done about EA games that upon starting state "can't connect to internet" or something along those lines? I have tried the apks of FIFA 12 and hot pursuit from my phone and even copied the game data for FIFA but the problem still persists. Any help?

Anyone occasionaly unable to open quick settings menu by tapping clock?

Hey there,
Just curious if anyone else sees this problem? And if there's a known reason or fix? Pretty much like the topic name says.... sometimes tapping the clock just does nothing, no matter how deliberately I tap or hold it. I know it isn't hardware because when I rotate into the other other orientation, that portion of the screen that was just the clock now responds fine to touch. A reboot will fix. Thoughts?
EDIT: Should have mentioned - bone stock, unrooted, locked etc. Havent gotten up to any tinkering with this thing, too many bad hardware reports to invalidate warranty lol. Though my hardware seems good so far...
Thanks...

I prefer the ASUS quick setting to stock Android notification, but I don't think I have any problem with them. Have you try cold booting your tablet? Shut down and press power+volume down?
I know you said it's not hardware, yet that sounds like a digitizer problem.
I get this from time to time - I even got it once last night, after flashing CleanRom 2.3... which was a little disappointing.
I've found that if I get a notification of some kind - say, an email being received - it clears this bug and I can then tap on the clock to bring up the quick settings menu and it will work fine from then on. It's only after a reboot that the bug reappears, but then not every time.

Yes. I get the issue since I believe JB update. One work around that worked for me is open setting from setting icon, which I have on one of home menu. Some how after that it works again. So I agree it is definitely not related to hardware.
Hi,
Yes, this happens randomly with my tablet too. Likewise, only since JB.
As noted above a notification does seem to make the issue go away. I have tried all sorts to find the cause but always come up blank. Rebooting also removes the problem.

I had this issue with JB. It was annoying as hell. Went back to ICS because of this and the "black flickering lines" problem. I already posted about this, but maybe it was on TF and not here... It's a bug in JB...

I suffer from this as well.
Yeah, notifications seem to fix it. Glad I'm not the only one... I guess. Really is annoying as hell to not have quick access to brightness settings and stuff. Funny, I didn't know the cold boot required the volume button trick, I thought just a normal shut down / restart did that. Thanks for the tip, I'll do it regularly lol.

Sorry all, but I don't have this issue on my rooted, locked .18 JB. It works very well indeed.
I also have this problem. The only way I can fixitisjust a shutdownand restart. Can be annoying.
Same here... Started after the JB update... One quick fix for me is to plug in my ear-buds and the QSP pops up.. If you don't want to carry around your ear-buds, if you have a pair that you don't use anymore or a damaged pair, you can cut the tip off and carry it around in your case/cover..

Incredibly annoying touchscreen problem

Right, could anyone tell me the problem here? My touchscreen has become crap recently. It's really frustrating now, so much so that i find myself punching the screen! (not too hard though, lol).Usually i'm docked, but even then i use the touchscreen and sometimes it doesn't respond to any input. At other times, it recognises some random input not by me. Like whilst i'm in the browser, i can scroll down properly at times because it starts zooming in or something. It didn't happen a lot initially. but i'm noticing it a lot recently. I asked ASUS and they just told me to factory reset but backup my data. When i asked how, they sent me the entire manual. Could it be a hardware problem? If so, would it be better to get it replaced from where it was bought or to just send it to ASUS?
THANKS for any responses.

I have the same problem. I haven't found any fix yet, the only work around I've found is to turn off the screen. After I turn it on again the problem is gone. I'll try and use a touchscreen tester app when the screen goes crazy again. The random touches seems to be concentrated on the upper right corner of the screen. I doubt that it's hardware problem though.
Yeah, that worked for me sometimes but other times it didn't. Trying a factory reset now.

A factory reset seems to have fixed it for me. Tablet also seems smoother. Chrome is still a bit crap though. I backed up my apps using ASUS app backup.
EDIT: rebooted my tablet afterwards whilst docked and somehow my old wallpaper came back. However, the tablets gone back to performing wose now...

Off topic, but does anyone know how to get my email to check it's inbox automatically without me having to open the app each time? I mean the Asus stock email app. Last I checked, i always have to start the app after which it checks the inbox. I'd rather it be done in the background so i get live updates. Thanks for any help

I has similar issues with my first TF300. I exchanged it for a new one and had no problems. I would probably just exchange the one you've got. My second TF300 had sound issues, and I held on to it past the exchange period and had to send it in to ASUS for repair. They had it for over a month. Should have just exchanged that one also.

Above question and it seems that the touchscreen problem is back. Really don't understand. It can't be a hardware issue if it goes after a factory reset surely?

I flashed CM10, and the issues seems to be gone.
I don't want to be flashing ROM's yet. I think the problem only occur when i'm docked which is strange although i may be mistaken

Touch Screen - Digitizer Problem

Out of nowhere today, I started having problems with my screen. When I press the left middle of the screen, it shows me pressing 2 inches above that. My keyboard in that area, is non responsive, and when I'm in apps and trying to navigate, it gets all haywire on me.
Is their a way to get it calibrated? To stop the intermittent failure of my screen in certain areas.?

Is this happening with power connected or without?
Saw a neat clip once of the screen's different feedback between connected and not. When was connected to power, user showed how his touch input resulted in erroneous touch all over the place.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app
At first I thought it was during connection. But now it happens intermittently with other without power. When I called Asus. They said it's the "Digitizer" I'm under warranty, but If theirs a fix we can do on our own, I'm all for it.

Unfortunately, it probably is hardware-not software related. Get a RMA and send it in....
If you want to narrow it down some more, you could enable"show touches" in Developer Options.
But I doubt that it would help...

That's exactly what I did, to know that when I touch one spot on the screen, it showed the actual touch, two inches above where I was actually pressing. What's maddening is, it doesn't happen all the time. Just different times throughout the day.

Hopefully forum will let me post this link (still a new born here).
This is the video I saw, though I now see it is for the prime, but anyways take a look at the symptoms he had, and try and find that app he loaded, maybe can help you narrow problem down...

It does sound like a hardware issue with the digitizer. Sending it in might be the only way to know for sure and to fix it. It is under warranty, so you won't be charged anything. Try doing a full factory reset first before sending it, though. There could be small chance that it fixes it that way.
