I know there is a couple threads on here and a few other places but they seem to get side tracked very quick battling between specific features, and most of these threads are in one of the phones sections making the people disusing usually a little bias.
Little info on me. Currently own a samsung captivate (i9000 variant), running cm9 and devil kernel thanks to the amazing dev's here. I've loved all the roms and modification that can be done to this phone.
Now I'm looking into getting a bit newer phone (but mostly likely it will be a used phone)
I really like a phone that is supported by the community here, as they are the ones who bring the latest and greatest.
Keep in mind what is important to me is screen, camera and browsing speeds. Not in that order. And don't care about storage space or gaming.
So the phones I have been looking into are:
Galaxy Nexus - i9250 (TI OMAP 4460, Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9, PowerVR SGX540)
Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE - i9210 (international?) i727 Skyrocket (AT&T) / i727R (Rogers) (Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon,Dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion,Adreno 220)
Samsung Galaxy S2 - i9100 (international) / i777 (AT&T) (Exynos C210, Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9,Mali-400MP)
Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE HD - E120S (Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon,Dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion,Adreno 220)
Basically the between the Nexus and the GS2 but there is so many GS2 variants. I worried if I get a variant then there is less community support for it. Does the Nexus perform better due to all of the code being optimized by google? I would like the speeds of LTE but is it much of a difference? (I plan to go to a store and use an HSPDA phone vs a LTE phone) but it would have to be a GS2 variant.
Galaxy Nexus Pros:
Screen
Supported by google (but that doesn't mean to much with xda supporting the GS2 phones)
GS2 Pros:
Camera? (Supposed to be better at low light and video)
SD Card slot (tho this isn't really a big deal to me at all)
So not taking into account chipset or CPU:
Nexus vs GS2:
Nexus better screen
GS2 better camera
Nexus vs GS2 LTE:
Nexus better screen
GS2 better camera and faster internet
Nexus vs GS2 LTE HD:
Nexus - nothing better?
GS2 - better camera, better screen/equivalent, faster internet (but also higher priced and less common)
Does the CPU manufacturer and/or chipset/GPU make a big impact in performance? I seem to be reading it does but it sounds like opinion not fact when I've read it....
I've been wondering also how the GS2 LTE HD stacks up to the GS3 dual core version, as they have similar specs. Looks like the S3 just has a little bigger screen and a bit better battery life, due to slightly newer Snapdragon CPU.
The Nexus will /always/ have better support from developers than anything else. Nexus phones are incredibly popular and draw huge crowds.
That said, the S2 is also a very popular phone with arguably the second best community support behind it next to the Nexus.
My suggestion would be to go with the Nexus phone simply because you'll get it direct from Google. It's a much more fluid experience. Samsung's custom software is quite a pain, and even if you decide to run custom software on the phone, there are always going to be some aspects (like hardware keys) that don't match Google's current specifications. I'm telling you this as a current AT&T Galaxy Note user, which has the same hardware as the S2 Skyrocket.

I am about to sell my Dell Streak and three replacements seem to be coming out very shortly.
Samsung Hercules
Samsung Galaxy SII HD
Samsung Note
Right now I am confused on the release dates of each of these items and availability to T-Mobile users. I don't want to get involved in another ATT propriety phone that will have bandwidth issues. Long of it short, when are the release dates on the last two phones, and what are the bandwidths that will be available? Is pricing available on the last two also?
Samsung Galaxy S2 (Hercules) model is true Quad x Quad band
Quad band 2G (Voice/EDGE) + Quad band 3G/4G
so you can really go any where, any network and enjoy both voice and internet at high speed
that is the one coming out Oct 12 at T-mobiles USA for $230, and possibly unlocked with some luck
the Galaxy Note is due out in November sometimes, the phone is gigantic, 5.6" not sure if you want that, might as well get a tablet if it was me.
Samsung Galaxy S2 HD is only going to be release to Korea soon, no words when it will be available in the rest of the world

I knew the Hercules would be a non-issue phone, but I wanna make sure I am getting the best phone for me.
Will the Note be available on T-Mobile bands? The size doesn't bother me, it is similar to a Dell Streak's dimensions and I believe even lighter in weight.
I m also a bit confused on the processor difference between the SII versions and apparently the Hercules has an oddball processor? Is this of real consequence or more nit picking?
it's the latter, people are just nit picking, and being biased by some synthetic bench scores
as for the Note, they have not yet released enough Tech Spec details to indicate the network type
I'm considering getting a note as well, it has its merits for its size, and screen resolution.
makes good for work, without carrying a heavy or large tablet/laptop with you
I think you should go for galaxy S II, its quite cool..
Best decision for you - sony ericsson
Let me make it more complicated for you!!
Samsung has recently announced new generation of Exynos 4212. It uses 32nm fab process and they claim that 50% increase in 3D graphics performance. Has to be more power efficient. No real time tests done yet obviously, but I think we can trust Samsung on hardware internals. They gave 2 stunning SoCs in GS and GS2. Not sure which phone(s) will have this internals.
Add to this they introduced 20nm fab for DDR3 RAM.
Over that add new camera modules. 1/2.3-inch 16 MP CMOS sensor with backside illumination. 1/2.3 should be same like normal point-n-shoot cams. This they claim can shoot 60fps video at 8MP.
No idea which phones will have those. Sure GS3 will have the cam module and DDR. Not too sure about SoC as they are in-line to pump out Q-Core with Mali-T604 GPU.
Choose your poison.
I know there was a similar thread to this topic, but the thread was 9 days old and to me that's a big difference imo. So anyway, I'm stuck choosing either the samsung s2 or the htc amaze (both phones are the tmobile branded fyi) and i really like the build quality of the amaze and i heard the camera is better the s2 but i like the processor on the s2 even though the amaze has the same thing but the speed is almost similar and both of these phone way faster than my current phone (iphone 3g lol) and the screen of the s2 looks great but the amaze screen has more pixels. So right now i some advice on which phone is better, and please have some reason with your post, i dont want just a simple answer
samgung GSII is one of the best phones ever made. compare the specs list, look at some user reviews. i don't know the exact specs, so i can't say for why without a possible very large margin of error, but i do know the GSII is a better device.
These questions are always tricky, as much as you would hate to hear it, it comes down to personal preference..
Looking spec wise the processor of the Amaze is slightly faster (1.5ghz dual core vs 1.2ghz dual core) - The memory of the S2 can be exanded whereas I don't think the Amaze can be - Camera/Video quality is the same - Both have NFC support (Which is the next era of technology in my opinion) and the Amaze is being shipped with Gingerbread 2.3.4 I believe..
Sooo If you are looking spec wise and want the latest and greatest I would have to suggest the Amaze, I would prefer the S2 myself because all though it isn't quite as fast 1) I wouldn't notice the .3 ghz difference and 2) I prefer the squarer shape of the S2 as well as it being quite a lot lighter (Amaze=170grams vs S2 = 110grams).. But again that is my personal preference.. Heck I'm saving up to get a Nokia N9 over the S2, that's saying a few things about me.
Hope this has been of use,
MVP
im leaning towards the s2 and i was talking about the tmobile branded s2 not the international but thanks anyway
Why do you want the Nokia N9? Looked at the specs, doesnt look way better than the SGSII, am i missing the point?
Here are my thoughts:
-The Galaxy S II has a faster processor, running at 1.2ghz (Dual-Core). Overclockable (and stable) at 1.6ghz using a custom kernel here.
-The Galaxy S II has an AMAZING camera. VERY high quality and life-like. It's great!
-The Galaxy S II has the SAMOLD+ screen, which looks absolutely amazing. Simply put, extremely nice. When displaying the same picture on the Galaxy S II and the iPhone 4, the Galaxy S II just BLOWS the IP4(S) out of the water - not to mention it helps improve battery life.
-You should be safe if you drop the Galaxy S II: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elKxgsrJFhw
I looked at the specs of both galaxy S II and iphone 4s. Seems to me that iphone is much better. I have a captivate myself and plan to upgrade soon as well. If you have time, wait for something better to come along soon near thanksgiving or xmas break.
Does someone have a link to the list of diffrences betweent the SGS2 and the Skyrocket? I'd like to know if it's more than just the processors and LTE capability.
SR has Snapdragon 3 1.5GHZ vs OG SGS2 Exynos 1.2GHZ
SR has 4.5" screen vs OG SGS2 4.3"
SR speed on HSPA+ has much faster data than OG SGS2
I believe battery is larger in SR but like to support LTE draw
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Now I've heard people complain about the fact that they would put an older chip aka crap dragon in the SR. Is the SGS2's Exynos that much faster by comparison because of the various efficencies in the built into the ship despite it being a 1.2GHZ? I was wondering if overclocking an SGS2 would bring it on par with the SR in terms of speed. I looked at a review of the SR @ phone arena, but the "chopiness" was negligible on the SR.
I had the sgs2 and swapped for the sgs2s and the difference in my opinion in smoothness is null and void. They are both smooth. The sgs2 screen is slightly better but the skyrocket has LTE and a larger display which for me is a plus. It really d
epends on he user honestly.
The 727 does not have an fm radio Chip
Kind of a tough decision for me. The 7.7 has battery life, screen quality/resolution, has better tablet app support (1024x600 on the 7.0 makes some apps appear in non-tablet mode), and better build/feel...while the 7.0 fits in my pocket, is cheaper, and doesn't seem to have as many issues (the 7.7 seems to have screen/color issues and overall sluggishness).
Advice? I'd be using it as my primary device (and making phone calls off of it), and I'm looking mostly at the screen size (so phones like the GS3 or Note don't appeal to me).
how about google nexus 7 tablet ,will coming soon.

Because it probably won't have 3G, let alone GSM phone service...I've owned too many Wi-Fi tablets to know I won't use them unless they're my primary device.
P6800 is a beautiful device. Can be used as primary phone (if you can make past the funny remarks), an be used as any tablet. You must install a custom ROM from here on XDA, the tablet will fly. Samsung is a bunch of greedy idiots that interest only on money, not on support. But that's why we have the friends on XDA that work hard to give us a better and optimized firmware.
Galaxy Tab 2 is with a very slow CPU, games will stutter, P6800 has the same GPU as S III, that performs on par with Tegra 3 Geforce ULP.
So yes, the better choice would be the P6800. But you need to be just a little more patient, until ICS will be fully compatible, than your tablet will really fly.

Um, two things - I'm talking about the Galaxy Tab 7+, not the 2, which has the same CPU/GPU as in the 7.7 (but clocked a little slower). And the Exynos in either is dual-core, not the much faster quad-core in the GS3.

The GPU is the same: Mali400. A quad-core GPU. On par with Geforce ULP with 12-core (Tegra3).
But the 7.7" has a SUPER AMOLED screen. Very good in sunlight, consumes less (if you read a lot with black background). Bigger resolution than Plus.
Hello guys,
Well i need some advice from real people. There are two models in my country: international One X and One XL. You know what the differences are. So maybe someone tested both with same kernel and os version. Which processor is better? Tegra 3 or Snapdragon clocked Krait S4?
In your opinion which one to buy and why? Or just go for One S?
P.S. There are like 1 million reviews and benchmarks and like every single one is different.
Thank you for your opinion!

S4 for the battery.

S4 because its the future.
S4 for the LTE.
S4 for the battery life.
S4 for the win
Sent from my One X
I really do not need LTE. The main thing is speed! And about battery? It is really big difference? Or just go for Galaxy S3...? I just love HTC design, and galaxy is just near ugly, but speed is more important, just hate lag so much.
28nm ftw

S4 processor is better. The tegra 3 was rushed so they could be the first to get a quad core. It's crappy architecture. The s4 is better for everything but gaming but only by a little and it kills battery on the tegra
Sent from my One X using xda premium
Speed difference is negligible. S4 wins in a lot of benchmarks, and Tegra wins in a couple. And you would likely not see much difference in real world use. Same performance, but better battery life on the S4.
Also, at launch the Tegra version had graphical glitches, and a number of other bugs that were attributed to the Tegra chipset. Not sure if these were ever sorted out, as I don't keep up with that version. But many were doubting it would be fixed anytime soon, as NVIDIA is notorious for taking forever to address such issues.
And you might think you don't need LTE. But its not just about speed. I get fantastic data reception at my house now under LTE, where under HSPA+ it was dismal (1 bar, with frequent connection drops). At some point, you may find your self in a location(s) that has poor HSPA reception, and LTE will save the day.
Every Tegra device I've put my hands on has always seemed far too slow and glitchy for the supposedly excellent hardware and software behind it. Except the Zune HD, but everyone ignored the Tegra 1 for some reason. S4's got better battery, chances are they are basically identical in real world use. The only downside to the S4 is the lack of official support for the Tegra games, but I'm sure we'll be able to play them in time.
To be honest, we might be able to do them now if Chainfire3d works for us.
I'd buy a Qualcomm based device over a Tegra based one any day of the week for all of the reasons already mentioned.
The S4 may be "only" dual core, but it's the better chip.
sweet, another thread for this
you should of done something original, like ask one x vs. galaxy s3

there are s4 with quad core. a chinese phone maker jiayu, is making the jiayu s1 with s4 pro. that is 4 cores with gpu andreno 320! and with 2 gb ram with 32 gb memory with sd card slot and 2500 mah battery or 3000 mah battery!, with a 3.0 megapixel cam in front and 13 megapixel in the bag, and is thin!. only for 260 or more dollars!. incredible no? (gorila glass maybe, like the other older models!) and the value is near the nexus 4, but this one is better, with more battery, (the jiayu g4 with an older procesor with quadcore wins the nexus 4, this will win the samsum galaxy note 2 or more) jiayu is good with good performance battery and resistant products. and very beautiful too

and the definition isnt hd is full hd 440+ ppi !
