Title says: i didnt ask specific question about tablet model.
Few tips:
If you know exactly model of device, first search forum for section with this model and then read post abput rooting.
If you cant find model/models of tablet which you wanna learn to root or wanna ask that describe you procedure then change title to:" Need help to root this xxx(<--type here tablet model) "

Ok... so anyone up for rooting a chinese tablet? Got a Colortab-MID that according to the android system app is manufactured by WonderMedia and has an ARMv7 chip. PC at first recognized as Samsung S but after downloading android apk for 4.0.3 it connects with adb. Superoneclik said it was roted but somehow I cannot get superuser on. Went into the shell with adb and cannot change to su nor can I ask to "remount" the system as rw.
Any ideas?

Well I doubt its rooted then. Can you do a "adb remount"? Without any extra tags.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Nope. Got a "remount failed: operation not permitted" error message
Installed from play store link2sd, superuser and root explorer. Of course root explorer does not mount rw so surely not rooted.
To append more information. I've already tried:
Unlock Root ver 3.0 - says failed to get shell root
DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su - basically says the same thing, it even asks if already root
Cube Root for ICS 4.0.3 - experimented for the heck of it with this script but no gain
185_root_script - Found that this is for GB apparently
SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse - this version is apparently the latest but again no gain
It seems that all find that shell root cannot be obtained or that adb remount does not happen

Ok, got the 10" tablet rooted
So. After crawling around for about 3 days with google, and in XDA and flashmyandroid forums I found something that works with my chinese tablet. Bloody thing doesn´t let me put links so I´ll tell you what and how I found the needed file.
The file I used is named "Android_Root_1.0.zip" and I found it by plugging in "root" "tablet" and "generic" in XDA forum search. There is a forum by the name "[Q] Obtaining root on generic tablet" in which post #25 has a link for the file.
Just make sure of the following:
1) That the tablet is charged, has off-market apps allowed and USB debugging selected
2) When the tablet connects you use the USB drivers supplied in the Android SDK (I used ver 20.0.1). How to use such drivers is especially important for these "generic" tablets, just follow the instructions in other posts for changing the drivers. My tablet was recognized as a Samsung Galaxy S by Win7, which of course it is not.
3) Download, extract the archive and double click on the *.bat file
**Make sure you always wait for the tablet to reboot before pressing keys as instructed**
4) Voilá, if all goes well you should have a rooted tablet.
Information of use to all crawlers:
Manufacturer: WonderMedia
Country: China
Model: ColorTab-MID (10" screen)
Processor: ARMv7 rev(0)
Android: 4.0.3
Bought in Mexico from a SuperFin sale (similar to a cyberMonday in the USA)
P.s. now I'm going to try with my wife's... same mfgr but with a 7" screen. Need to check the processor though.
Hey guys, I just bought a new model of a 7inch Genesis Tablet. The model is GT-7240. Do you think the method that is used to root another 7inch model of same brand would work for my GT-7240 without bricking risks?
Thanks in advance! I'm really looking forward to having my tablet rooted.

The process I described for rooting my 10" generic chinese tablet I followed exactly for my wife's 7" tablet and it worked. I think my wife's is a wm8950 based tablet that is arm cortex a8 while mine is a wm8850 which is arm cortex a9. Mind, the ICS is somewhat different in each one but both "rooted" correctly without much fuss.

Ok here goes what I remember of how it goes. You need to be able to access the tablet from your computer and being that it is a chinese one that means that you will need the Android SDK because it has the USB driver. First off you need to go to java (at their website) and download and install the JDK (java development kit which you can find at www dot oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html). Once that installation is finished you need to download the Android SDK (you can find it at developer.android.com/sdk/index.html) which is in zip format. Unzip and take note of the folder. Navigate to that folder and double click on the SDK manager file. When the window opens make sure that all Android 4.0.3 boxes are selected (under Android 4.0.3 section) as well as the boxes from Android SDK Tools, Android SDK Platform-tools Under tools section) and the Google USB driver (under extras). Once the software is downloaded and installed restart your pc (just to make sure that all is well).
On your tablet make sure that USB debugging is selected (under settings) and connect your tablet to the PC. Regardless of what happens you will need to change the drivers the PC uses to connect to those in what you downloaded. Go to control panel, hardware then hardware manager and look for the tablet... it either will have incorrectly assigned drivers (mine were Nexus S drivers) or it will have a ! meaning that no appropriate drivers were found. Right click on the assigned name and then click on update drivers. Follow prompts to update from disk and navigate to the USB folder you created under the Android SDK installation folder.
Once that is done then download the file I mentioned in the link above. It will come in a zip file so unzip and take note of the folder. Navigate to the folder and double click on the **.bat file. It might happen that you have a DOS error which says that it did not find ADB. You will have to add the ***\tools folder of the Android SDK installation folder to the system path in the environmental variables (if you don´t know how just follow the instructions in java.com/en/download/help/path.xml).
Be carefull to always wait for the tablet to restart and be "seen" by windows after each key press once you double clicked on the **.bat file. You can leave the Hardware Manager box open and keep on eye on the tablet appearing there.
So... were these pointers enough? LOL being a bit sarcastic. Have fun.

Hi guys,
I bought a tablet from the guys over at Allview. The price was decent and the tablet is nice, but the douchy problem is that they did not include the android marketplace. I need it.
The device runs a eclair (android 2.1) update 1. Is there any way to install the marketplace without rooting the device ? and If not, can the device be rooted ? It has no phone capabilities (no sim, no gps, no camera) so I have 0 ideea what tool to use, especially because i really have no ideea what happends when rooting.
The little i got informationwise is that i'd probably need to root it > connect it to pc, use the andorid debugging console to "push" the app into the system folder. Tried to install whatever vendor.apks I could find but since the "host" os was uncertain, it's probably why they could not be installed. Alas, i may be wrong. Can you please help me out ?
if you need more infor google allview or Alldro
Thanks a lot !

Here ya go! just download it to your destop, transfer it to you device via usb, or download it to android device and run it from there!
thanks a huge lot !!! I will try this out. if it cannot install it means I will probably have to root the damn thing
thought as much. it won't install. I'm using ES explorer to install it (my device is not rooted yet, as I mentioned before) and no luck.
EDIT 1: Also tried copy=pasting it into the system/app folder. it says android marketplace blablabla copy failed. Is it possible that I am dealing with a NAND lock ?
could be that system is mounted read only.
Do you have root?
nope, not yet. I;m trying to root it as we speak... so far still going through the steps
EDIT: trying this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858952
so far i got to making the recovery image. for some idiotic reason however, I cannot do adb reboot recovery again ! it tells me error: protocol fault (no status)
my guess is that it doesn't like the recovery folder's name. else i don't get what's wrong ! I am going to rename the folder, and then attempt a second reboot-recovery. see if that works !
EDIT2: did not work. Could it be something else ?
ok i did it ! the problem was I had skipped rooting and forgot to add a few more params after doing the backup... whew ! that was a close call ! ffs !

Hi,
Is there such an app for the phone P2 from Allview?
Thank you in advance,
Poli
You will need to root your device to be able to push the vending apk into the system apps.
1. Root. its essential to do so.
2. Mount system partition r/w > google for adb commands on how to do that and adb in general
3. download the google apps provided above and either unzip and push vending apk to system/apps (not sure about the exact names, you'll have to see for yourself by using Root Explorer) . Restart phone > should work.

GoClever r83 rooting procedure
Hi folks,
Here is rooting procedure that worked for me. (PC OS used for this instruction is Windows 7 x64, Tablet GoClever R83).
A word of disclaim. I will not be held responsive for any bricked tablets, sad faces, or elephant tears...
You're doing this at your own risk. Because it worked for me doesn't mean it will work for you. But on the other hand, i'm pretty sure it will :victory:
Let begin,
PC:
1. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1947147 and search for GoClever 7500 Root.zip. Download it.
Let me explain a bit why GoClever 7500... archive, to avoid possible confusion and raising questions. Before rooting you should install Google USB driver from Android SDK (http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html) which can be downloaded from the net for free. Unfortunately our device doesn't get recognized with latest driver from latest ASDK, and that's the reason we're downloading drivers for another GoClever tablet which we'll use for our rooting.
2. Unpack the archive, and remember the location where you extracted. (e.g. c:\temp)
3. Install UnlockRoot Pro - http://www.unlockroot.com/download.html (free download)
Tablet:
4. Go to Settings->Developer options->Turn on Usb debugging
5. Go to Settings->Security->Turn on Unknown sources
6. Connect PC and Tablet via USB cable.
PC:
7. Go to Device Manager, and update device driver from: c:\temp\GoClever 7500 Root\Drivers
8. Start Unlockroot Pro. Click on large Root button, it will say that device is already rooted, but you confirm anyways. After a shortwhile it will ask if you want to reboot. Do reboot.
9. Please be patient, and wait for tablet to load up... and... congratulations! You're rooted!
You can check if you rooted successfully with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck&hl=en

No need to use modified adb.exe from unknown sources. Regular adb from Android SDK can recognize your ADB driver if you append line with text
0x2270
to %USERPROFILE%/.android/adb_usb.ini file
0x2270 is vendor id of ‘Android ADB Interface’ USB Device.
So here's how I did it:
Basically, with an Cortex A8 processor, the Maxell C8 tablet seems to be a slightly upgraded Allwinner A10, which is a bit cheaper than the Maxell tablet but then again Maxell really did package theirs nicely in terms of casing. But it's no secret - when you plug in the Maxell C8 with Windows 7 it shows clearly that it's a MID tablet. So essentially, my theory is that this method should work on all similar tablets such as Allwinner A13,A10 etc (although many of those come with preinstalled google play, as China, like me, doesn't give a **** about copyright). For reference, my tablet is running Android 4.0.4
Step 1. Root your tablet.
This took me a few times to figure out but this program called "Android Root Unlock" finally did it for me. You can get it from Source Forge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/androidroot/
Enable USB debugging (settings > developer options > Usb debugging). Then just connect your tablet to your PC via USB, wait until Windows recognizes the device. It should read "MID" in the device manager screen. The unpack the zip file you downloaded above on your Windows machine and run "ICS_Root_Unlocker.bat" it while the tablet is still plugged into USB. A black terminal window will open, just follow the instructions from there. Your tablet will restart - that means it probably worked, don't close the program yet but follow what it says to the end until the terminal window closes. Now you can unplug your device.
Step 2. Install modded Google Play
Now you can go ahead and follow the instructions on xda-developers.com:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650116
That's it! Google play now works like a charm and I can download stuff directly from Google Play without problems
Here's my full blog post: http://truthtech0.blogspot.com/2013/03/android-maxell-maxtab-c8-tablet-market.html
Thanks for your efforts, I'll give it a try. I was going to try Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry, but as you've confirmed it works, I'll use Android Root Unlock.
I think it's running Jelly Bean, it's my dads tablet. I'll see him tomorrow.

Hi, thank you for your guide.
Unfortunately i'm unable to complete it because when i connect the maxtab c8 to a windows 7 system it doesn't find the MID driver so the root bat doesn't find the device.
Do you have any hint in how to complete the procedure?
Thank you.

Thanks for the hint; I was able to execute the bat file but i still have some problems.
The procedure looks like complete but if I open Root Explorer and try to do some changes in \system\app it just tell me that it's in read only mode.
Tried root check pro and it's all red...
superuser installed
sbin/su: permission denied
system/bin/su: no file
system/xbin/su: Setuid attribute present and root user ownership present. Root access is correctly configured for this file! Executing this file can grant root access!
system/xbin/sudo : no exsist
su binary not found or not operating correctly
Tried to run the su file in system/xbin/su as a script on the tablet and via adb without any changes. Checked a bit online but i'm a bit stucked since my other android device (lg p500) was much easier to root.
If you have any idea i't will be very helpful. Thank you.
Ok solved.
To easy root the maxtab c8 (android 4.1) i used the RK29 tab tolkit v1.3: easy and fast.
Now i have problem installing the play store...
I followed the guide but since i don't have any Vending.apk or phonesky.apk in system/app i just copied it without a backup, rebooted but nothing happened.
Need more testing.
Ok play store installed and working.
I didn't use the apk linked in the first post, i had to use this one instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934441
The method is the same (copy in system/app, set the permission as rw-r--r-- and then reboot) just use the apk i linked.
Hope this help someone.:victory:

While searching for a method to root the JB build for the yarvik tablet of my family (usual methods have not been successful), i stumbled upon the following Windows based method that now i want to share and should work with a lot more devices:
On your PC:
1. Install USB/ADB drivers from your manufacturer's website
2. Install & connect via http://www.moborobo.com Management Tools, loads own device specific ADB-drivers
3. Download & install this Chinese piece of software from http://www.shuame.com/
In case you don't understand what you do:
- On Website press blue download-button with arrow pointing downwards
- During Installation uncheck every checkbox except the one that grays out the next-button upon unchecking
the download has been a bit slow for me (10kb/sec), if it fails or the take it offline: drop a comment, perhaps i can share the setup file somehow
4. On your device: turn on USB-debugging
On your PC:
5. Run Moborobo Software, then plug your device to USB-Port, wait until Moborobo has recognized it (in my case i had to click some dialogues...)
6. Run freshly installed software from Shuame.com (titled Ë¢»ú¾«Áé in my start menu)
7. When shuame-Logo appears on your device's screen, head on the windows-software towards the 4th icon in the top row; on the appearing screen click on the 4th icon in the 2nd icon-row (the android with some chinese signs + ROOT as title)
on your device:
8. download SuperUser (or superSU) from Market or install via other sources (if not already done)
9. replace asian root / su files (recognized as older versions) with newer ones by SuperUser or superSU
10. delete 2 chinese shuame-APKs from /system/apps directory or uninstall via Titanium Backup
11. => you're done.
if more than 10 People complain they can't find the right button's to click
then i'm willing to post a few screenshots...
else: have fun!
oh, and if this worked for you: drop a comment and let the others know!
thank you

I have a laptop but no charger so my laptop is dead. I'm not a noon when it comes to rooting as I've mentioned I've done it before. Just need help finding a root for this tablet. I appreciate any help I get and thank you. If you need more info feel free to ask. I've also looked at the topic about the 4GB but its not that helpful is why I created my own topic.

I have the rct6378w2 RCA 7' 8GB tablet (4.2.2 JB). (Black Friday 2013 Walmart for $49)
I was able to root it by first installing the pdanet drivers (for adb access). And then using the kingo app, which you can get from http://www.kingoapp.com/.
Its free but closed source. I found it via this youtube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MiZtZCqu4k
Worked even with the 1.0.2 update installed (which I have no clue what it did (17MB).

I cannot get pdanet to get the drivers. I cant find any drivers anywhere. Pdanet says to click ok after connecting, and it just says no android device found..I think there's an error box too.. I don't know how to fix it. I also have the tablet from the black friday event. Exact same one. Also, I have USB debugging on...
UPDATE: I found out the problem! The support files weren't in the root file I had the .exe in. I just moved the .exe to the same folder with the support files, and now I'm rooted and ready! Thanks!

how are you turning on usb debugging? I also have this tablet(purchased on black Friday from Walmart like everyone else) and mine doesn't seem to have that option anywhere. in fact, compared to the previous two android products I have, this device seems to lack ALOT of available functions. though I am capable of navigating a recovery menu at boot. but that doesn't do me any good for using pdanet. that seems to be my biggest road block. pdanet wont install because the onl;y way I can allow my device to connect to my pc with adp is using the adp updater in the recovery boot menu.

It is a hidden option that needs to be enabled. Follow this guide: www ninjaromeo com / enable-usb-debugging-developer-options-jelly-bean/
I just enabled this option on my Walmart BF 7" RCA RCT6378W2 tablet.
Sorry I had to mangle the link because XDA wont let me link external sources yet.
Glad I could help a few. Now, someone get on a functional recovery ;p
I have poked around a little at the stock recovery, backing it up, etc.. But am not brave enough to try and get CWM working on it.
I was able to use th Xposed framework for a few mod's no problem. Battery mod, reboot menu, hide navbar, etc.. But Xposed can only do so much.
Edit: I heard on reddit this tool also works for rooting. I have not tested it (already rooted with the other method).

Getting Debugging to work.
I was not drunk when I made this post...I have the RCT6378W2 if you go to about tablet in your settings and repeatedly tap the build number...the deveolper options will appear...I fell out of my seat when i discovered this.
On a side note...if you repeatedly tap the android version...a cute picture of the android jellybean will appear. Try it.

1: Install drivers. Seeing as RCA does not provide drivers, we had to find some that work. That's where PDANET comes in. Their drivers support a very wide range of Android devices. We are not installing it to tether. We just want the drivers it provides. So download PDANET, install, let it detect your device, install the drivers, and then afterwords you can uninstall it.
2: Enable Developer Options. Settings>About tablet> Tap Build Number a bunch of times till it's enabled.
3: Enable USB Debugging. Options>Developer Options>Click On (up top)>Then checkmark USB Debugging
That should clear up some of the confusion in this thread. How you root after step 3 is up to you. Personally, I did it with Kango. Which was straight forward. Connect device, hit a button, Say yes to a couple questions, reboot, presto done.

Thanks, that sorted things out.
To make clear, and aid in any other inquiries, I managed to find an ADP connection mode, among other android update features. with the device off, hold volume up while turning the device on. it should boot to an image of an android with an open chest panel and the words, "no command". if you push volume up again it will provide you with options and instructions on how to execute. you can manual update the device with an SDK through USB ADP mode this way. I'm not sure if that makes anything simpler or generates a work around but I hope it helps with future development for this device.
Well got root now we need a recovery...
For some reason when trying to make sure I can send adb commands to my tablet, I am showing no devices connected. I check in device manager and it shows up as Android ADB interface for the tablet. These drivers were installed with the latest version of PDANet. Thoughts or how were you all able to get the drivers fully loaded and working? I have developer options already enabled and USB debugging mode is checked.
Info: RCA RCT6378W2 Tablet
Android 4.2.2
Kernal 3.0.36+
PDANet+ 4.12
Windows 7 64 Bit (I also tried it on my windows 7 32 bit computer)

You need to create "adb_usb.ini" in "Users>Username>.android".
Inside "adb_usb.ini" insert "0x2207" and save.

I had this problem too. make sure you're using the most recent version of pdanet. for whatever reason the older version just hang there and dont work right.
Installed the latest pdanet. It wont install the driver. I checked the device manager and it still shows the device without the driver. not sure what else to try..
