Are we supposed to check Reboot and DebugEn? Or do we just leave it as is like the 1st post says? Because in the guide about using ODIN it says to check those

Done, still having the same issue. I've never heard of PC Studio before looking it up now, so I presume it's not running, unless it's installed with the drivers or something. In any case, I'm gonna try uninstalling MSE and see if that makes a difference, but I've been screwing around with Odin and this half-bricked phone for two days now, so I don't have high hopes.

for odin 1.61(with the victory .pit) only check timereset and reboot
NOTHING else. with this rom.
make sure that you start odin first before connecting the usb(just to be sure)
and if you have issues, make sure that the usb is capable of the proper power, ie not through a hub, and disconnect non essential usb things.(mouse and keyboard are obviously essential)
if that fails try removeing the drivers fully, and reinstlal them with the phone plugged into a different port.

Well you need to know . If you were on Froyo - you were flashing a GB kernel.
Since you don't know - you need to take the route of flashing GB with Bootloaders to be safe.
Go to this thread:

Select and download:
Download SMS KJ6 (beta2d) Kernel Stock Rom with Bootloaders
Let me know when you have it and I can help you proceed.

You will pull this off no problem. I have helped many people through this.
While you are waiting for the download - go ahead and do step one in that thead:
"Get the latest version of Java 1.6 from this link."
** Just so you understand - Froyo and GB have different bootloaders. If you were on Froyo and trying to flash GB without bootloaders - that is a problem. That is why - to be safe - you are downloading KJ6 WITH BOOTLOADERS so we know you will be good to go afterwards.
Java is all good and SMS KJ6 (beta2d) Kernel Stock Rom with Bootloaders is done downloading

I didn't mean the guide - Fresh out of box - I meant the actual thread '[Q] Help me with DL for galaxy s4g battery life'. She flashed the same thing you are about to flash. Did you read that thread?
If so, let me know and we can get started.
And no - SuperOneClick is only for rooting. You are about to flash a Kernel, ROM and bootloaders to get your phone going.
OK i have read your [Q] Help me with DL for galaxy s4g battery life thread.
I have flashed ROMS before on my G1, G2, and my SGS2. I am familiar with download mode. I just made a dumb mistake.

No worries... it was a good thread to read.
I ADVISE USING A USB PORT YOU HAVE NOT PLUGGED YOUR PHONE INTO YET FOR THIS!
- Get your phone in Download Mode
How to get into download mode:
Take your microUSB cable and plug it into the computer, but not the phone (yet).
Take out the battery from the phone.
Put the battery back into the phone.
Put the back cover back onto the phone, make sure it's snug so the battery doesn't fall out.
Hold vol + and -, keep holding them.
Plug the USB cable into the phone.
You should now be in download mode and should see a picture of a yellow triangle with Andy and a shovel in the middle.
- Run the Heimdall One-Click you downloaded using the directions in that thread:
Run: 'java -jar SMS-KJ6-beta2d_Stock-Rom_with_Bootloaders-One-Click.jar'
Its idle and looks like this http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9655144/20120304_003443.jpg

That is your bootloader issue. What have you done so far?
If you ran One-Click once - and got that - your were previously on Froyo. Pull the battery, go into download mode, and flash again - this time checking 'Flash bootloaders'.
Step 4: Run "flash" once. Let the phone reboot itself. Don't touch the phone until it boots into android. If it works and you want to flash bootloaders
- Put your phone into "Download Mode" again:
- Check the "Flash Bootloaders" checkbox and Run "flash" again to get bootloaders.
- Again, let it reboot fully into android.
I ran SMS-KJ6-beta2d_Stock-Rom_with_Bootloaders-One-Click

If it is greyed out start over. If your phone is showing connected. And you installed the Heimdall SGS4G drivers, and it says:
'SMS-KJ6 (v0.0.2d) Stock-Rom with Bootloaders UVKJ6 is ready for your device.'
Click flash.
Let it run until your phone reboots. After it reboots you should boot into CWM. If not just wait a few seconds. Then pull your battery. Leave One-Click OPEN through this, put your phone in download mode, One-Click should recognize it and you should be able to check flash bootloaders. If so - flash again.
OK I'm in front of the weirdest thing I've ever seen in my Android life. Turns out I got my Infuse 4G and turn it back to stock AT&T Gingerbread 2.3.6 using Heimdall One-click Back-To-Stock UCLB3, and in the middle of process it seems my USB port disconnected my phone and I though I would see a brick, but thank God it was not that bad (I thought). I change the USB port and put my Infuse in download mode again, passed the tool again and everything went like heaven (again: I thought). I got my stock AT&T Gingerbread 2.3.6, but I never seen CWM anymore, I just can't because the weirdest screen I've ever seen (you'll see).
I thought my phone was unrooted, so I maded my way straight to SuperOneClick v2.3.3 and begin the simplest process. Well... it was unable to root my phone and believe me, it's not ADB problems, I know it because I can install apps through Android Commander without any problem... so that's the first weird thing I have here.
Until that moment I thought my phone was bad-flashed or something, so I tried with another tool, the mythic Odin with h8rift's [UCKD5] Odin - Stock (Root+3e) and with my device in download mode it never shown itself as COM## on Odin (required to start the process), however I clicked on PDA button, selected the .tar.md5 file and start the process that never started (logically).
So right now I have no idea what to do or where to go.
I'm apologize if I explain every little detail, the thing is that most of the time one get answers starting with "You did this?" "Have you tried that?" I all I want is to avoid that. For example, I have USB debugging, ok? Another thing someone could ask.
Please help me guys. I madded a video so you can see what happens when I try to enter CWM. Even when my phone starts, during AT&T logo screen flashes with a strange distortion. I madded this video and post it to YouTube so you can see what is hard for me to explain.
Please HELP!
I need anything that from scratch clean everything and put my phone shiny.
Best regards.
You have "rainbows" because you don't have Gingerbread bootloaders.
You need to use odin a GB leak or Heimdall a GB leak to correct the problem.
Your initial failed flash on heimdall was due to a bad connection -usb data cord or computer usb port.

from froyo with recovery, you can flash any rom. bypassing the bootloader.
a lot of people do this w/o prob until they run into recovery issue.
i'm not sure re: the exact architecture why this occurs.
the kernel gurus can tell you more.
if you use odin, and install one the gb leaks, you will have that BL, until you do a repartition with gtg's ultimate unbrick which brings you back to froyo. I think you will lose the bl's.
In good practice, I use the 1click heimdall w/ repartition - these are packaged with "official" GB leaks. imho, i believe they are better suited for a base to get to your custom GB rom.
if you're running infused 1.6, there is no needed 'cause it's froyo.
no rainbows there
edit: to each his/her own i guess. the reason why gtg's "unbrick" seems like a life saver is due to repartition with PIT files image.
the heimdall 1 click does the same thing but takes the guess work out from the inexperience user.
Ok so I've been rooted and unlocked for a while now, but stayed with the stock rom as when I tried out Synergy Nightlies it gave me some errors. So I went to try out CleanRom 2.1, people liked it and I didn't notice any flashing errors. So I flashed it through CWM 6.0.1 and it gave me the yellow exclamation mark saying I had unauthorized data on my phone. So I followed the sticky on how to unbrick my phone using the 2 boot loaders and the root66 stock image. My issue is that when running the root66 stock image through Odin it fails at _XmitData_Read, which seems to be somewhere in system.img.ext4. I've tried rebooting the computer, the phone, Odin, it just doesn't work. So when I reboot my phone after the failure I get Odin auto loading saying:
Odin Mode
Product Name: SCH-I535
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable
Then an image of a phone, 2 dots, a yellow exclamation, 2 dots and a computer are shown with the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again.
Anyone able to help me?

Kies isn't installed on the computer and yes I am still able to get into Odin Mode.
I'm under the impression that "unauthorized software" message comes from the locked bootloader (if I'm wrong about that someone plese correct me.)
Sounds like you're functional enough to be able to Odin back to stock and go from there - that's what I'd try. See the stickied thread in the Q&A forum.
I would run the FULL VRALF stock image through ODIN to return to stock. That is always the safest way out of a sticky situation.
Thanks guys, according to another post the version of EZ-Unlock I used most likely gave a false report and never actually unlocked my phone. The problem with going back to stock, which if what I'm trying to do, is that it fails.
Could be an USB issue - an intermittent connection would be most likely to cause problems while sending the system partition since that's the biggest. I've had problems using adb from time to time if I plug into one of the front-panel ports on my PC but no trouble with one on the back.
Maybe try switching ports or try a different cable ...
Actually what usb plug are you using on your computer? You should be using one in the back of your computer by the power supply. Seen the front jacks not work correctly for large transfers. Finally, try another usb cable.

Strange.... i was able to flash syergy on thefirst try. Never used odin during the whole process....
If youre rooted you need to make sure you have a custom recovery in place like cwm or twrp. Make sure you make a nand-backup.
I used casual to flash unsecure bootloader, with that and recovery in place you should be able to flash roms without any hitches....
I could never find a comprehensive guide on using odin so i never got around to testing it

So far I've tried 3 different USB cables and both a desktop, both front and back ports and a laptop, each one fails on the write of XmitData under system.img.ext4
I had a custom recovery installed and Odin is only being used to get me back to a stock rom, otherwise I did all my flashing under CWM 6.0.1 or twrp. I think the whole fake unlocked bootloader just hard bricked the software.
EDIT: Come to think of it I remember waking up to my phone in download mode. I think Verizon tried to install the update to my phone while I was sleeping. Granted it failed at the end, but I'm wondering if that did something to brick me now.
If you can get in download mode it can be saved. I woud re download the stock firmware or the 66, but personally i would go bone stock. You may just have a bad download.

Ok, so using the newest stock rom from the dev forum worked. Can someone please give me a link to an old EZ-Unlocker so I can flash without worrying about another massive brick in my palm. I'm guessing that running the original root66 stock rom through dropbox somehow corrupted it.

I personally suggest not using the app if you already had trouble. Just root your phone using the Debug Root method in Development, download the aboot.img from Adam Outlers thread HERE to your phone, and run the commands at the very bottom in Terminal Emulater app (from the market).
That way you know for sure your bootloader is unlocked. This is what I have done and never had an issue.
Edit: Glad you got your issue resolved!
I have the samsung galaxy s 4g. It came with froyo 2.2 when I bought the phone. I used samsung kies mini to upgrade to gingerbread 2.3.6. I messed up my phone after that ( I got the phone, ! ,computer icon my screen and also my phone would say samsung galaxy s 4g and would keep restarting). But then i used odin (took me a day to fix it) and got the phone to go to gingerbread 2.3.5 and now my wifi is really weak. I had full wifi bars in my room before and now it shows 1 or 2 bars only. How can i fix the wifi? Or will I have to get 2.3.6 gingerbread again to fix it? I dont have the 2.3.6 gingerbread files so can someone please post them and tell me instructions on how to do it. I tried to update to gingerbread 2.3.6 again using samsung kies mini but when i connect it, under firmware version it says unregistered device and under firmware upgrade it says nothing. Im real nooby at this, if anyone can help me that would be great.
Firmware version: 2.3.5
Baseband version: T959VUVKI1
Kernal version: 2.6.35.7-T959VUVKI1-CL579207
Build number: GINGERBREAD.VUVKI1

Great hiemedall guide!
READ THE WHOLE THING: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21953587
now we just need an odin guide like that. and then a simple guide to jump between odin and hiemedall(driver switch), it can get confusing.
An EFS(Encrypted File System) backup is nice to do, but it requires root access. Something that i recommend, but is not very necessary if you dont plan on flashing your phone often.
This is how i flash my phone:
READ the operation procedure(OP) EVERY time, if you dont understand, read it again, then the comments.
FIRST I use gremlin remover by thomas.raines: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500427
I would recommend steps 1 and 2(battery and SD card reset), step 3 is the goods, its fine to skip the filesystem cleaner part, because your going to flash the gremlin remover. The gremlin remover is an odin application, so you must be usng the appropriate drivers(not hiemedall drivers). If you have already installed hiemedall drivers, just open your device manager, scroll down to your usb devices, select your phone(samsung usb device), proporties, drivers tab, and i like to select UPDATE DRIVERS(grabs driver from microsoft), but you can roll them back too. There are many other ways about it, but this is the easiest ive found.download gremlin remover, ensure phone is unplugged, start task manager - END ALL KIES APPS, then RESET phone into download mode, start gremlin remover, plug in phone to computer via usb. The odin app should recognize your phone, saying some device was plugged in. Hit start, takes about 5-10 minutes, maybe longer. If it fails: close odin, unplug your phone, remove the battery, wait a few seconds, insert battery, start into download mode(possible that you have soft-brick if odin install fails, NO WORRIES, just a different screen than download mode, essentially the same as download mode.) start odin, connect phone to computer. If odin doesn't see your phone, just repeat the process, starting with driver install.(the same process if you have trouble w/ hiemedall, but different device driver and driver installation method[i use zadig.exe and install the WinUSB drivers to the samsung usb device])
IF you want to stay stock, stop here.
I think this flashing process includes root access, but I DONT KNOW. I'm also unsure the rom/kernel and modem version of this flash.
IF you need a different modem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192436(save modem flashing till last if you continue to follow my guide)
SECOND I flash Antonx's KJ6 1.1.3 barebone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669364
This is a hiemdall app, so you need heimedall device driver. AntonX's kernel is included in the install. It supports voodoo sound and BLN(google play apps) which are both very useful.
That is probably as far as you should go, it will give you ROOT access, BLN, and voodoo sound for KJ6.
If you feel comfortable editing system files, continue.
OPTIONAL:
I personally then flash the BlastOff v2 kernel by bhundven: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828171
wifi.conf requires editing for wifi to work w/ this kernel, described in thread
I then flash lightningzap v5 by thomas.raines: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386027
This also requires editing of system files because bhundven's kernel includes cherry-picked parts of AntonX's, both of which have issues w/ lightningzap.
I get crazy battery life(36 hours+), im OCed at 1.1ghz, and defualt UV at -25mV.
Good luck!

Why do you even need odin when you have heimdall? Heimdall replaces odin.

Yea, another guide for the same thing lumin30 already documented! And it's on the wiki.

You should be specific about versions you use. You do know. You downloaded the versions and flashed them to your phone.

Not technically. Blastoff is not based on AntonX's kernel. It integrates some of the changes AntonX made to do OC/UV, BLN, and Voodoo Sound.

YMMV, Different people use their phones in different ways that we cannot anticipate. How you use your phone is different then how I use mine. And we will both get different battery life results.

oh, ive never ran an odin app w/ heimdall, maybe i should read further
EDIT: heimdall wont open gremlinremover.exe, probably because its an odin executable. This is why driver switch might be nessesary, im just noob, is there is an easy way to break down odin .exe into base files to load into hiemdall?

You cant run odin stuff from heimdall. He was saying use heimdall instead. It is much easier than odin. The gremlin remover uses a older version of android that I believe is actually a leak and not official. Until I started using heimdall I kept gremlin remover on the ready, but I prefer heimdall now because it really is much easier to use.

Dont interpret that as negative critisism but more of suggestions to make things much simpler. You are using two different programs to accomplish something heimdall will do on its own.
i guess i dont understand what the gremlin remover does exactly, its 600mb, 3x the size of "normal" roms, takes maybe a minute or two longer to flash than an other rom. i suppose i like it because i feel it starts me out on a clean slate, which i can then manipulate from there, or try.
so i guess this is why it is big:
thomas.raines said:
Oh boy, it's so big because it includes EVERY stock partition on the phone. PIT, datafs, rootfs, kernel, cachefs, etc. I wish it could be slimmed down some, but when I tested it, I didn't get the same results.
I used DLCreator and an Odin3Execution from a Cappy ROM to create the 1-Click...

so if i wanted to do that with heimdall...could you do that with heimdall? or something of the sort?
