[Q] ICS on htc wildfire s error 7 issue - General Questions and Answers

Hi all ,
I am trying to update my htc wildfire s to ICS. using cm-9.0.0-RC1-CRYPTOMILK-ALPHA5-marvelc
i am getting following error.
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "marvelc" || getprop ("ro.buildproduct") == "marvelc"
E:Error in /sdcard/cm-9.0.0-RC1-CRYPTOMILK-ALPHA5-marvelc.zip (status 7)
installation aborted
Please guys help me ont this.. i m very much interested to see ICS on my phone.

Use the version for "marvel" and not "marvelc".

Thanks for your info Theonew ....
I ll try ...

I'm having this same problem, and my Wildfire S is a marvelc phone. I tried the file for just marvel, and it installed but got stuck on a black screen while booting up. The marvelc file just aborts stating "status 7".

Do you mean wiping everything? I've done that, many times. If an installation fails, I always go back to recovery and do four wipes: factory restore, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, and wipe battery stats. Nothing changes. Is there something I'm missing?

Try wiping the dalvik cache then rebooting (you could even remove the battery and try again if that doesn't work). If the issue persists, try reporting it in the ROM's thread.

I can't post in the development section yet, so I'll just keep trying. I've done all of that. I found a thread that details how to s-off, so I'm gonna try that and see if it makes a difference.
Edit: I've now S-OFFed my phone, but still no go with CM9. Here's what's weird: Although I have a marvelc phone, I tried the marvel build just for the heck of it. The marvel build "installs" but doesn't boot (get's stuck on black screen), while the marvelc build fails installation and gives me the same error that the OP posted. I had this same problem with Paranoid as well.
I can't tell you how many times I've wiped, formatted, partitioned, re-formatted, re-partitioned, pulled the battery out, etc. I get the same error every time. Is there something else I'm missing, perhaps?

I found the answer to this in this thread here, on page 5. Setting up CM9 as I type this

Yes yes yes yes.I am so glad guys.I finally did it after 2 days of searching threads and seeing videos.!!!!
I was so pissed that i could not install the 4.0.4 update over 4.0.3 to my nexus s 4g.
I have tried everything .Unlocked fastbood, rooted! Everything!Install CW recovery mode not even from that!
Finally i found what i have been doing wrong. The last hour i was trying to instal CyanogenMod 9 following the instructions from a youtube vid.
I followed the steps exactly only this time the video mentioned about wipping dalvin cache !!!!!The previous times i tried to install the update i was not
wipping dalvin chache only the user cache and the system.I have done it exactly as the video mentioned
then tried to instal CM9 and i got this message:
assert failed:getprop("ro.product.device")=="crespo4g" ||get prop("ro.build.product")=="crespo4g"
E:Error in /sdcard/update-cm-9.0.0-RC0-crespo4g-UNOFFICIAL-signed.03302012-0601.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted
I said WTF?????I said oh f*** it i am not trying any more and i saw the update.zip(4.0.4) that i had stored in my phone and i said i could give it one last try!!!!
And it worked.
Hope i helped a litte.

[Q] Stuck at HTC booting screen after flashing Cm9 alpha4 or aokp

Please help. When i first received my HTC One X, i had it rooted and the boot loader unlocked. TWRP recovery is also installed. The first thing i did was flash Clean Rom 3 LE and it booted up and was working perfectly. A few days later, i attempted to flash Cm9 alpha4 and after telling TWRP to reboot, it would just sit at the HTC screen for over twenty minutes. I tried restoring my backup and re downloading the file but it still failed. At this point i had just thought that it must be an issue with the rom on my phone, so i downloaded aokp rom from rootzwiki. I did a factory reset and cleared my caches, but it would then get stuck at the HTC screen, and then proceed to the recovery as if i had never flashed the rom. Any help is really appreciated. Thank you
If nothing else work, you can run one of the RUUs. But it will wipe data, and you will need to root, unlock bootloader (?) and install recovery again.
Thanks, but I am able to plug my phone into my mac and get to the recovery via terminal. I can then flash Clean rom and it will boot up and work fine. I'm wondering if this is an issue flashing any non-Sense based roms.
I've Flashed miui and cm9 and aokp with no problems. Did you flash the ones found in our development section? The ones in the International section won't work.
Try redownloading the zips. Make sure you wipe everything a couple times.
In the TWRP recovery wipe menu select cache, factory reset, and system then install CM9. This should fix your problem.
I flashed the ones found in our development section. Is there any extra step that I have to take. I did a factory reset, cleared my cache and dalvik cache, and then flashed the rom. I then cleared my cache and dalvik cache and then rebooted.

I don't think it's casuing the problem but the 2nd cache and dalvik clearning aren't necessary.

Still not working, but thank you for the advice. If it helps any, its stuck at the first HTC screen where it tells you in red that the software is for development purposes only.

that's odd.
if you connect it to your computer can you get a logcat?

When i enter the command, this is what i get:
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
Ive never taken a logcat before, so Im sure i must have done something wrong

Ok. Flash a rom you know works. Get the phone running then do a fresh download of cm9 alpha 4. Before you install it do a backup in recovery in case it's borked again.

if it's LOCKED that's probably your problem. Unlock it. There's no reason to re-lock it anyway.

EVO LTE problem on install of custom ROM

I unlocked my bootloader, installed twrp recovery, and rooted obviously. I then backed up and installed the 9-6-12 build of CM10 nightlies for Evo lte from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1851912
Before installing I did a factory reset/wiped caches,
Now it boots up and gets past the HTC logo but then it just goes to a backlit black screen indefinitely. I left it for 30 minutes in case it was just booting really slowly.
Does anyone know what could be going on? I really want to try CM10.
I will give so many thanks to anyone who helps!

Try another clean install. You could also try wiping the dalvik cache after flashing (before rebooting).

You could try flashing with a different recovery (if available for your device).

I don't know why it would be a recovery problem but I guess I could try it if all else fails. You both get some thanks for help =)

In CWM are you wiping data/factory, cache, delvik cache before flashing? And fixing permissions after flash.
