[Q] Stuck at HTC booting screen after flashing Cm9 alpha4 or aokp - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Please help. When i first received my HTC One X, i had it rooted and the boot loader unlocked. TWRP recovery is also installed. The first thing i did was flash Clean Rom 3 LE and it booted up and was working perfectly. A few days later, i attempted to flash Cm9 alpha4 and after telling TWRP to reboot, it would just sit at the HTC screen for over twenty minutes. I tried restoring my backup and re downloading the file but it still failed. At this point i had just thought that it must be an issue with the rom on my phone, so i downloaded aokp rom from rootzwiki. I did a factory reset and cleared my caches, but it would then get stuck at the HTC screen, and then proceed to the recovery as if i had never flashed the rom. Any help is really appreciated. Thank you

If nothing else work, you can run one of the RUUs. But it will wipe data, and you will need to root, unlock bootloader (?) and install recovery again.

Thanks, but I am able to plug my phone into my mac and get to the recovery via terminal. I can then flash Clean rom and it will boot up and work fine. I'm wondering if this is an issue flashing any non-Sense based roms.

I've Flashed miui and cm9 and aokp with no problems. Did you flash the ones found in our development section? The ones in the International section won't work.

Try redownloading the zips. Make sure you wipe everything a couple times.

In the TWRP recovery wipe menu select cache, factory reset, and system then install CM9. This should fix your problem.

I flashed the ones found in our development section. Is there any extra step that I have to take. I did a factory reset, cleared my cache and dalvik cache, and then flashed the rom. I then cleared my cache and dalvik cache and then rebooted.

I don't think it's casuing the problem but the 2nd cache and dalvik clearning aren't necessary.

Still not working, but thank you for the advice. If it helps any, its stuck at the first HTC screen where it tells you in red that the software is for development purposes only.

it just sits there?
that's odd.
if you connect it to your computer can you get a logcat?
type adb logcat from command prompt.

Ok. Flash a rom you know works. Get the phone running then do a fresh download of cm9 alpha 4. Before you install it do a backup in recovery in case it's borked again.

if it's LOCKED that's probably your problem. Unlock it. There's no reason to re-lock it anyway.

miui and CM7 keeps cycling the inital loading

hi all,
Ok, I'm new to this stuff.
1. used the simple root and it worked great.
2. I then flashed CM7 and it worked great except market was not on it.
3. I downloaded and flashed gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed.zip by mistake, not realizing I had to use another gapps.
4. After I flashed it, the cm7 and android setup screens kept cycling between each other.
5. I restored to clockworkmod (sp) and then deleted the gapps and tried to then flash cm7. It didn't cycle between cm7 and android setup, but the cm7 screens kept cycling and never got past that.
6. I thought perhaps it was just cm7 now, so I tried miui and it's doing the same thing. It's cycling between the gingerbread man and MIUI with the status bar and won't do anything else.
Very frustrated. what have I done and how do I fix it?
Thanks folks,
Brett
I believe that those ROMs both require ENG S-OFF. Open simple root on your computer, click Fixes, then apply the fix there. Also, did you make sure you cleared your Dalvik cache before flashing? Always do a factory reset AND clear dalvik cache when changing ROMs.

Hi. Thanks.
I use rom manager to boot to recovery. Then I install zip from sd card. I go through the process until it says reboot. It's when I reboot that I get stuck in the bootloop. It just cycles from the CM7 circular arrow to blank and then to the arrow thing again. MIUI does the same between the gingerbread guy and the status bar and back.
I then take the battery out, take out the sdcard, down volume & power, reinsert sdcard and do a restore so I can use my phone again in clockworkmod 3.0.0.6.
thanks,
brett

actually, I did that.
it's weird. I restored a few times, did the above you suggested, and still in a loop. The first time I installed CM7 it was great, then the gapps thing seems to have screwed it up.

Probably a silly question but you're doing full reinstalls, right? Not using a nandroid backup? I can't think of any reason that you should be boot looping permanently from flashing the gapps if you're going into clockwork, doing a factory reset, wiping the cache, then wiping the Dalvik cache, then flashing the ROM.

That's your problem right there. If you make a backup of a busted ROM, its still going to be busted when you restore it.
Do the factory reset, then clear the cache again just to make sure, go to advanced and clear Dalvik, then go to the main menu and use the choose install zip from sdcard option, then choose "choose zip from sdcard", find the ROM zip file and select it, then say yes to the flash and reboot when its done. If you are flashing CM7, make sure that you flash the correct gapps package after you flash the ROM or the ROM won't be very useful.

I'll give it a shot and then get back to you.
I do believe, however, that the restore I'm doing is the backup I did right before I did the original cm7 flash. I'll try.

If you toggle wifi on after the first boot it goes into a bootloop. This is a know bug not a hunch.

Error making calls and text

I was running the ruu 1.7x with PA because I had a soft brick a few weeks ago, just last night I tried flashing King Cobra in TWRP. Upon rebooting it gave me trouble but I eventually got the phone to boot up all the way. Everything worked except and I couldn't call or text but I can receive them. I thought maybe installing the latest update would solve the problem but I'm still having the same issue. EVERYTHING got wiped no backs up no nothing, am I screwed?

I did that when I was running KC and now on the stock software, I thought it was because I was on 1.7x and flashed KC cause I didn't have this problem with PA, so I did the update ruu tool to 2.20 and the problem still persist :/
WOOOWWW.
I am the biggest herp that ever derped. I did not flash the FC.zip fix provided in the King Cobra thread instead I updated with the RUU tool and the problem still persists. So I suppose I have to wait for the amazing minds of XDA to figure out a way to root the HOX on 2.20 before I can root/unlock to flash this silly zip. Ohhhh woe is me.

Since you already unlocked the phone with HTC dev unless you changed your cid before the ruu you can unlock again with the same token and install twrp and flash a rooted rom.
You will just need to flash the boot.img from fastboot before the rom

Try going in to recovery and clearing everything (cache, dalvik, factory reset, system) and reflash. Keep in mind if you are on 2.20, you have to flash the boot.img manually.

It didn't solve the problem I still can't flash the .zip fix nor is the issue gone. Should I try flashing a different Rom and see if that takes care of it?
flash newest twrp 2.2.2.0 in fastboot. also do a "fastboot erase cache" then "fastboot flash boot boot.img" using the boot.img from CleanROM 4.5. then wipe cache, dalvik, data, system, etc. even flash external after backing up everything. then mount usb copy CleanROM 4.5 to storage. then install selecting full wipe in aroma. then install cleanmods in the created storage folder. that will be the safest method to make sure your starting clean.

EVO LTE problem on install of custom ROM

I unlocked my bootloader, installed twrp recovery, and rooted obviously. I then backed up and installed the 9-6-12 build of CM10 nightlies for Evo lte from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1851912
Before installing I did a factory reset/wiped caches,
Now it boots up and gets past the HTC logo but then it just goes to a backlit black screen indefinitely. I left it for 30 minutes in case it was just booting really slowly.
Does anyone know what could be going on? I really want to try CM10.
I will give so many thanks to anyone who helps!

[Q] Stuck on bootscreen after flashing [JB]Unoffical MIUI 2.9.14 Skyrocket[PORT]

Hello Pros! First post, semi-noob here.
I tried flashing the newest [JB][CM10Based]Unoffical MIUI 2.9.14 Skyrocket 9/14/12[PORT] today. I followed all instructions; I wiped wiped wiped, factory and Dalvik, and flashed the kernel.
But I am always stuck on the MIUI bootscreen, and can never fully load up the ROM. I've tried wiping and re-flashing several times, to no avail. I have not had any problems flashing roms before this. Any help or ideas of what causes this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!

Try reflashing. But when u get into recovery go to extras/darkside tool. And click on the super wipe(idr what's its called but there's only two options.) When that's done factory reset format data/system 3x if u want.( Couldn't hurt) then flash ROM! All should be good... if not keep this thread open. Lol and well try something else. Oh also u could try fixing permissions. After doing all the wipes and after flashing. Go to dark side tools again and do the cashe wipe! Then go back to advanced and fix permissions again.
Can you boot into recovery or not? If you can, just flash the rom. If you can't, yank the battery, replace it. Then, hold down both volume buttons, the press the power button, release all the buttons, you should be able to get into recovery.

Wow, still stuck on the boot screen even after the darkside cache wipe. I flashed CWMR Touch v6.0.1.3 by sk8erwitskil which is the newest CWM recovery as far as I believe, and the recommended recovery for this ROM. I EVEN flashed TWRP 2.2 just for the heck of it and flashed MIUI with that and still the same result; stuck on bootscreen. So I'm pretty sure it's not the recovery.
I did a darkside superwipe, and a darkside cache wipe, along with factory reset & format data/system 3x. The rom installs in recovery just fine. It's just once i reboot, i get the MIUI splash loading screen indefinitely. I'm not sure what could be causing this since I do all the important wipes (plus the darkside wipes now) each time. I think I have BAD LUCK!
You'll have to use odin, and reroot your phone.
Have you checked the MD5 of the ROM? If it's a bad DL it could flash just enough of it to loop you.

Ya I agree try downloading it again. Check the md5 and flash that ROM again. If it doesn't work your gonna have to Odin!
There were a lot of complaints of boot loops when flashing, so I pulled the DL link. I actually stopped using miui and moved back to CM or AOKP, depending on which one is most stable at the moment. Every once in a while I give miui a try, but I never stick with it. If you want miui, I suggest you follow Lithium's thread. His version is the officially supported miui rom.
I can confirm heres what i did to fix i had the boot loop.. all i did was run DARKSIDE Superwipe x2 Times. Then i installed MIUI Rom. Then i Factory Reset. Try booting wait a little bit. If still not going threw remove battery and boot to recovery and factory reset one more time then reboot. So once again.
1. DARKSIDE SUPERWIPE x2++ 2. Install MIUI Rom. 3. Factory Reset. 4. Boot. 5. (If still looping) Remove battery Then recovery. and Factory Reset and boot again. Your welcome
Can we move this to q and a?

[Completed] Can't boot into my Custom ROM

Hi! I just installed a new Custom ROM for my phone. After 5 minutes I wanted to create a backup. So I started ROM Manager. I entered the name, and hit OK. The phone booted into a crashed recovery mode. So I took the battery out and rebooted the phone. It didn't boot into my Custom ROM. It booted into recovery. So I am stuck inside the recovery mode and can't boot normally.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy Mini (GT-S5570)
Recovery: CWM Recovery
Custom ROM: CyanogenMod
Hello,
If you can boot into the recovery, do a factory reset and flash back the custom rom. And then reboot the device, once you rebooted the device will boot into system. And then you're done!
Good luck!

Hi, i would like help you with this problem as I myself have experienced it. The things that you should have done are:
1. Always make the backup early on before installing the Custom ROM.
2. When installing a Custom ROM, make sure you have not replaced core system apps
3. Make sure your there are complete symlinks in your ROM otherwise it be hard bricked. Ouch.
4. Before installing a Custom ROM, make sure they are from experts, like CyanogenMOD, and sure your device is supported for updates.
5.[Most Important] The only things to wipe when installing a ROM are : 1. Cache 2. Dalvik Cache 3. User Data, never ever ever ever WIPE your system folder with root access on it. This will always ensure that you will reboot into recovery, and it will be annoying to root your device w/o ADB USB Debugging on.
6. Make sure that there are no system apps missing on your Custom ROM, check for the legibility of the Custom apps installed. Are they pirated perhaps?
7.[Very Important]Always watch a video tutorial for it's errors, and search how to Unbrick your device first before proceeding with an installation.
So that if any problem arises, you will be sure to restore it to it's Stock experience.
8.[Absolutely Important]Make sure that your software counterparts on the PC are compatible and functioning well first before you proceed.
Now tell, me which of the following did you not do?
And if this really helped you a lot, please like. For the sake of those who did their research.

Hello,
If you can boot into the recovery, do a factory reset and flash back the custom rom. And then reboot the device, once you rebooted the device will boot into system. And then you're done!
Good luck!

Try fastboot?
Hi,
No one seems to have suggested using a program called fastboot. It involves just installing some essential software on a PC, then running the program "Fastboot" along with the desired options.
I strongly suggest trying this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277112
I am always flashing ROMs and then trying to tweak them and end up messing up the bootloaders, or somehow breaking the system. And then i try using CWM or TWRP and still there remain issues. However, fastboot has always done the job for me.
Hope this helps.
Someone help me with my problem please ??
Use Fastboot!!!
