Picked up the AT&T Galaxy SIII. Wanted to see if all the hype was fair. - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Picked up the AT&T Galaxy SIII. Wanted to see if all the hype was fair.
Compairing it to my HTC one X:
What I don't like.
1. Shiny case is slippery ( more than the oneX) and is a finger print magnet.
2. Home button is a pain (imho) and the back button is on the wrong side (imho).
3. The navigation buttons are back lit. I like the permanent ones on the oneX.
4. The screen looks fine indoors. Outside it washes out terribly.
Neutral:
1."Seat of the pants" performance seems the same.
2. Build quality, no big differences
3. Removable battery and back cover, don't care...
4. Stock UI launchers, Both have the good and bad points.
5. Battery life is about the same.
What I like:
1. Some of the Samsung apps are better, like the Exchange client and sms app
Bottom line:
1. The washed out display outdoors is the deal breaker for me.
2. If you already have the oneX, keep it.
3. It's amazing how all of the Hype surrounding a new device confuses reality and how the buyers defend their purchases even if they don't like them.
4. Haven't found the perfect phone yet, but I like the OneX so far.

Thanks for that focused, in-depth review of your personal opinion. I'm sure that it will have NO effect on my purchase decisions.

I was just about to thank you for the frank and simple, hype-less review. Ignore live4nyy!

I bought a gs3 yesterday. Had it for about 2 hours then returned it. The main thing I didn't like was touchwiz. I much prefer sence. Both stock devices performed the same. But needless to say I'll be using my one x til the next HTC flagship is released.

Unfortunately, nothing will stop people from stating their egocentric opinions on these forums.
What I don't understand is, I didn't attack the OP, I didn't say anything about how redundant, self-centered, or irrelevant the review was, I just simply pointed out that it was his opinion and it would have no effect on me. But at least now I know how easily manipulated and defensive some of you are.
To each his own. I apologize that my opinion is less important then the next person's.

not sure if just stupid or trolling

I think it just comes down to software being better on the galaxy and build quality being superior on the one x.
Software is better due to true multi-tasking and sense not slowing the phone down.
If we ever get non-sense roms the one x will be perfect and that's why i'm not switching.

To be honest, if I were looking at this from the outside I would say it was trolling. I had a point to what I was trying to say but it got lost in the hypocrisy.
Depending on what forum you're in, people are quick to bash anything that slightly resembles criticism of their current phone but when someone wants to praise said device it becomes applauded. Why should we allow an individual's opinions to be quantified into justification that one phone is better than another? I am sort of feeling that people on the Android side are becoming similar to Apple customers, where they blindly attack one another based on their allegiance to a device and/or manufacturer. My message was simple. "Your opinion has no effect on my decisions". Was it necessary for me to say that? Probably not. But was it necessary for the OP to tell anyone they should just "keep" the HOX over the SGS3? Probably not either.
The devil is in the details.
From the OP:
Bottom line:
1. The washed out display outdoors is the deal breaker for me.
2. If you already have the oneX, keep it.
3. It's amazing how all of the Hype surrounding a new device confuses reality and how the buyers defend their purchases even if they don't like them.
4. Haven't found the perfect phone yet, but I like the OneX so far.

Just got the GS3 after having the One X for the past month.
I'm quite underwhelmed.
The feel of the device is fine in the hand, however, the screen isnt nearly as good in daylight as the One X.
The camera is great in well lit situations, but worse in low light.
The clickable button is not to my liking either. Much prefer the touch buttons on the older samsungs and the one x.
The Power button is in the right place for my hand on the S3. The one X power button is just not ergonomically placed for me.
The GS3 is a fingerprint magnet. Much more so than the One X.
Much prefer the UI of the default One X over the GS3.
Will most likely pay the restocking and get the One X in the next couple of days.

Oh look, another GS3 thread. Can't have too many of these in the One X forum.

wow, Look at all of the negative comments! Wasn't meant to be so controversial.
No this is not another in depth review. There are plenty of them out there. I read most of them and decided to give the S3 a try. This is just my reaction to all of the Hype and advertising. Simple real world use of things that are important to me. Yes it is my opinion, I am not bashing the Samsung phone, just stating some of my real world experiences and how the oneX works better for me. I am not afraid to say that I made a bad $549 decision that didn't improve my smart phone experience.
I was just hoping that my experience would help other owners of the oneX from feeling they bought the wrong smartphone.
I reiterate that I haven't found the perfect smart phone yet and I will not stop trying. I will take back the S3 and keep the oneX for now.

My confession:

Man, this is definitely the hardest thing I've ever decided to post to XDA...
Long story not-so-short: I won a GC to Best Buy for 500$ from a local gaming establishment...(read: illegal slot-machine parlor type place).
I had no idea what to get, as I already have a jillion Android devices/tables/phones/accessories and so on...
On a whim, I decided to just get an iPad 2, (just the 16GB, WIFI-only version, just to kinda see what all the hype was all about, and also due to the fact that I had played a couple of games on the store demos and was pretty impressed.)
Mind you, (and if you have ever read any of my anti-Apple rants on XDA) this was my FIRST time owning anything from the company, and I hadn't really touched an I-anything since the mid-eighties, when I used an original Mac in my high school computer lab for writing assignments..
Now, having no recent experience whatsoever with "today's" iOS, upon first use of thie thing I was greatly impressed just with the slickness of the interface overall, and the fact that the first couple of FPS's I legally bought from the app store looked and ran flawlessly (oh yeah, that Temple Run thing is also like video-crack).
I was pretty floored already, but when I decided to jailbreak it and install the basics like Cydia, installous, and Dreamboard, that's kinda when "**** got real".
I realized that many of the arguments I used online when dismissing iOS as a "real" option for someone who is into device hackery as much as I am suddenly dissolved...
No app drawer, or widgets?
No longer the case, solved by a Dreamboard theme...
No live wallpapers, or custom keyboards?
Same story.
ONLY able to use a proprietary Market for apps, music, books, movies, etc?
Solved by Installous and Cydia.
Bonus?
I can theme this thing to look and feel just like a Honeycomb tablet:
For instance, here's my current setup on this thing, and I'm really just scratching the surface of learning what can be done with it:

}
Here's a page that shows a couple of more themes I can 'one-click' add:
And here's a freaking app-drawer on an iOS device, something I didn't know was possible:
Basically, I'm just "coming out" and admitting that I'm actually quite smitten with this iPad, which is something I NEVER thought I would say:
(I still couldn't EVER use an iPhone as a daily because there are still a ****ton of limitations compared to Android, so that would never happen, but I gotta say, that for a tablet, even compared to my other Android tablets, right now this is my favorite....)
Please, don't hate me, fellas...(but have fun with the obvious flames that are to be expected....I just had to give props where props were due.)
Anyone else out there with a similar experience?

I have an itouch and I've used a number of iPads they are nice I'm considering getting one but I'm waiting a bit more just to see if the rumors about the iPad 3 are true. I've already got apps in iTunes that will work that I bought so not a big deal. To each their own a lot of people hate Apple I do on certain things but they do actually make some good products.
Nothing wrong with a device that makes you happy, regardless of the make/os.
Ill admit to having one for a week, but my reaction was different. After having a galaxy tab 10.1 I couldn't adjust and even with jail breaking I hated it.
Hope it continues to keep you satisfied. What most diehards on both sides often forget is there's room for both makes in the world.
The best device will always be whatever makes you happy.
Congrats on your purchase.
Mazook...i would have never thought it possible! Well it is a great device so have fun and enjoy. People bicker alot about apple/android and which is better but i feel both are great. So why not just enjoy all the great mobile tech we have available and appreciate it for what it all is......AWESOME!! Thanks for sharing man.

lol get to making an asop android 4.0 and we got us a real tablet
I don't get why people get on here to brag about their ipads and iPhones. Really now.
Now that right there is a damn sexy setup for an iPad. Jailbreaking was definitely a must for me on my last 2 iOS devices. People can hate on Apple all they want (like I do ) but they do make high quality products.

.
iPads are OK, as long as you can never ever ever EVER touch iTunes. That's the deal breaker for me. I can't stand that POS. My wife has an unmodded iPad, and every time I have to update her machine, iTunes pisses me off. Heck, it even pisses her off because her bible software (Olive Tree) seems to lose settings after a major OS rev. I've had to fight with the stupid thing to get her purchases from OT back onto her device. The device itself isn't bad, although it's pretty limited for me, but iTunes is the debil, Momma!
Well since we are confessing... it was actually me who chopped down the cherry tree. George Washington is innocent! Whew! I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders!

lol...because that's the only thing my brain knows how to use: I can manipulate through home screens, sling thru apps no prob with an Android setup: it's all I've ever known: seriously, until I put that simple little Xoom theme on it, I was moving thru screens on it like a retarded baboon might: (no offense to any retarded baboons out there).
Also, to Phatman: not trying to come on XDA to "glorify" this thing: I was just pleasantly surprised by something from a company that, in the past, I always (rightfully!) bashed because of their business model and completely proprietary products: I'm just showing that I found what a difference a jailbroken device can make: I'm not selling or advocating the purchase of one: Hell, I thought I'd be the LAST person on Earth to ever own one: the ONLY idevice I've ever purchased before was a Bluetooth keyboard from Apple that I bought from Walmart, at like 2AM to test out on a Nook Color when CM first got it working: they had no other Bluetooth keyboards from other manufacturers available, and it took me like 20 minutes of just staring at the package to make up my mind a "go thru with the purchase", with all the "ethical issues" the entire buying process was creating for me....
Trust me, bro: this was far more "confession-time" than "finding new religion-time".
Edit: Robzilla: thanks for the tip about iTunes: haven't used it: now I'll know not to use it in the future.

iOS is NO DOUBT a fantastic product and device. but 2 things do bother me, and both of them are really more about business
1. i shouldnt have to jailbreak/root a device to customize it... (keyboards, themes, launchers, etc)
2. i REFUSE to buy products from a business who conducts themselves in such a sleazy manner. just like i cant stand the fanboy who justifies apples ethics because "they are superior". sounds a lot like a certain Pro-Aryan leader of the past...
other than that, im glad you are happy with it! remember, i hate APPLE, not you.

The iPad is a great product but Apple sucks as a company that's all
The iPad destroys Android tablets. The transformer prime is less usable than the iPad from early last year. I prefer Android on the phone over iOS, but Google and the manufacturers don't get what made the iPad successful, stability, convenience, and the apple store warranty process when something goes wrong, not specs and features. People go to a laptop/desktop when they want specs and features. If your customer has to pay shipping for defects or read 50 page filled forum with complaints, then you are doing it wrong.

If Samsung would only improve their update policies. People buying an iPad know apple will give them the cool new features for at least 2 years after the sale. Android buyers are becoming paralyzed because they don't know which device will be supported. Anybody with professional sales experience will tell you eliminating obstacles to buying is key, I wish Samsung would realize this.

The phones being released now are awesome out the of the box. SGII running 2.3 is good. Ice Cream update is only going to make the majority angry. Why do people think that updates that change the look of the device equates to good? It doesn't. On XDA we are an extreme minority. I wish more people would realize this. GPS works, phone works, text work, apps are awesome with many choices to pick from so what is wrong with it? Oh... it isn't running the latest android OS and that means the device isn't supported, right? Wrong. We just got another update for random fixes on a already stable device.
Here is my reasoning in regards to Apple projects or Android. If I have to go to the extreme to modify it to my liking then your not getting my money. I will not support locking down my devices. I would enjoy a free Ipad. I'd probably love it. But I'm not going to give Apple any money. I'm not going to give Motorola any love with a locked boot loader either. Or Assassin Creed for the PC, they aren't getting any support from me. The choice between Barnes and Nobles and Amazon Tablet for me is simple, Amazon because they didn't lock the boot loader.

Tired of the complaints.

It's a new phone. It will have issues. Get over it. I've never seen so many people complain about something. It is literally the best phone you can get right now. If it doesn't work for you get an iPhone. I love this phone even with the issues it has. They will be fixed. Sorry just my two cents.

It still amazes me that people complain about a new device having issues. This is HTC's new flagship device which has been created from the ground up. It's the first generation of said flagship line and is bound to have issues. Guess no one here had a 2g iPhone. Sure it was amazing, but I also had its short comings.

I concur. It's ok to have threads like "Multitasking is a joke on this device", "Who else is returning their handsets?", "Disappointed w HTC QC" etc. but it's not ok to have a thread confronting the complainers. It's true that if you spend money on something and it has issues you're entitle to complain but srsly saying **** like "Im gonna return my HOX and buy an s3" is just plainly redundant. This phone is a complete new direction in manufacturing technology for HTC and the only thing I can chastise them for is the fact that they seem to rush it out, but I can totally understand that it has software/hardware issues. Instead of threatening to return and to buy from Samsung, why dont people just either do it and move on w their lives, or be patient and wait for a solution? Look at the screen flickering issue being incrementally solved as an example. Moreover, the S3 hasnt come out yet so stop it the comparing bs already. Werent the S and S2 plagued w issues upon launch as well?
Mini rant: Samsung hasnt changed their handset manufacturing or design since like forever (really I have a 2008 Samsung f480 or something and it looks reminiscent of the Galaxy line) so it's expected that their handset making process is more refined. It's not fair to compare an old-fashioned design w something as innovative looking as the HOX.
So, you are COMPLAINING about complainers? How is your topic any different from the rest? At least the topics where people complain about issues, helping raise an awareness of the problem, with a hope that the developers will fix them, while topics like this have absolutely no purpose whatsoever.

The great news is that the SGS3 will be in people's hands in less than two weeks. If the launch goes like the i9100, and GN, the comparisons to "perfect" that we've been seeing will suddenly look pretty feeble. As they say, "he who laughs last, laughs best."

There's little constructive conversation in the complaint threads. No one's trying to put their heads together to clarify and resolve a problem. They are ***** fests. The multitasking thread is a great example. 2/3 of the posts are just "OMFG, this is inexcusable" pile ons. And anyone that dares say it isn't bothering them is squashed like a roach.

I agree. People can complain for 65 pages about a new phone, but if someone creates a thread about being tired about all the *****ing, it gets closed immediately. The reply by the Mod was condescending and rude, yet he allows other threads to continue. No surprise though, it's the XDA way.

So, what are you proposing about that particular? We should all just shut up, go with the flow enjoy the broken phone? Seriously, one thing is complain about something minor, like theme colors, another is something that makes the phone virtually unusable. The more people complain about such things, the more the manufactures get aware of that, the more chances they gonna do something about. Maybe perhaps we should get another topic where people can vote if they like it or not the multitasking is working?
Topics like this on other hand, has no practical or any other usage. That's my point.

Actually, topics like this help to even out the discussion and see both sides of the story. A casual user would get the impression that the phone was garbage and no one likes it if all they read are complaints. It needs to be known that not everyone is complaining about the phone. The last thing anyone wants is a media blackout.

This is nothing like the first iphone. Android has been around a long time, Android 4.0 is like 7 months old. It's the same camera module from the year old SGS2.
What is so revolutionary? I like mine a lot, it's a slick phone, but it's not that groundbreaking.

Both Samsung and HTC have designed their products to meet the needs of millions of people. Along the way there were bound to be compromises. If any of those compromises don't meet your needs, don't buy the phone. XDA probably represents at most 5% of the phone buying public. For 25% of the 5% to think they can band together and try to make multi-billion dollar companies bend to their wishes is pretty naive. So by all means, have at it but don't ridicule the people that see the futility in some of the complaining.
Some of the features of the navigation system in my car drive me crazy and other members of its forum agree. It would be laughable for a small group of us to flame the manufacturer expecting them to revise the system because we don't like it. But yet, here on XDA, that's a pretty much daily occurrence. I don't like the way the automatic soap dispenser works on my dishwasher. Maybe I should gather up a group of fellow disgruntled owners and spam the manufacturer's Facebook page demanding they change it. If you want to send a message to a manufacturer stop buying their products. That'll get their attention a lot quicker than #neveragain campaigns. The GPS on the SGS (i9000) was in fact with no debate FUBAR. Owners launched the largest social campaign I've ever seen trying to get Samsung to fix it. Samsung never responded. They and Apple now share 90% of mobile device profits. Oh well, so much for that.
I don't know what you guys do for a living but decisions at large companies aren't emotional; they're statistically and financially driven. In cases like Asus and HTC unlocking their bootloaders it wasn't the rallying of the 25% of the 5% that made them rethink their policies. They were probably on the fence to begin with and the positive PR and low financial impact is what got them to change position. A device can easily meet the manufacturers financial objectives even if the entire XDA universe boycotted it. We're described as "enthusiasts" and make up a small but vocal part of the phone buying universe.
HTC's now on record saying multitasking is working as designed. Everyone here is still in their remorse period. You have two choices: 1) return the phone, 2) keep it and hope that since this is now on HTC's radar maybe there may be some future improvement. Option 3, which a lot of people seem to be taking, keeping the phone and *****ing among themselves isn't going to change how multitasking works.
Things like petitions and posting on social sites are fine. They are ways of communicating with the manufacturers and letting them know how some of their customers feel about their decisions. But as with everything, there's a time to call it a day and move on. This isn't a civil rights fight; we're talking about features on a phone. And of our "issues" probably 10% would even be noticed by the phone buying public in general.

The problem here is none of such compromises are publicly available for users to weight their decision with, none of the reviews have mention such crucial flaws, they have some cons about colors in photos or phone being too wide, but nothing that would greatly affect user's experience with phone's usage. Customers will have to experience it themselves, which means they will have to buy it first. (for example LG Nitro HD has defective hardware compass and the only way to know about it to experience it yourself, because nobody is talking about)
In this particular case with multitasking, the only people who's not getting affected by it are the same people who shouldn't buy such phone in the first place, since they just wasting money on something they don't use to it's full potentials.
Also, the same logic as "don't like it, don't buy it" can be applied to the OP complaining about the complainers - don't like it, don't read it, move along. But, it's just does not work in our imperfect world...

On this, you and I totally agree. Part of what makes XDA fun (for me) is the difference of opinion. It's interesting to see what's important to people and how everyone uses their device differently. The battles always start when smart, knowledgeble, strong-willed people all try to get each other to agree. And I've never seen that happen here or anywhere else.
Imagine I'm making a thread like "Who else is not returning their HOX and dont give a **** about the Samsung Plasticky s3". Pretty sure it will be closed so quick my chair still doesnt get warm yet.

Actually, topics like this help to even out the discussion and see both sides of the story. A casual user would get the impression that the phone was garbage and no one likes it if all they read are complaints. It needs to be known that not everyone is complaining about the phone. The last thing anyone wants is a media blackout.

No i think what is being said is that these threads dont help other users, they just are meant as a knee-jerk reaction to complaints threads. If you want to do what you are suggesting in your post, then you should start a thread along the lines of "I love this phone and here's why", not "tired of the complaints." That's just a complaint about complaining, plain and simple.
I also started a thread speaking of my problems with the one X and I got a bunch of people whining about my whining which I don't understand. And the point of the thread was not intended to go that route. Anyways I guess alot has changed here in XDA.

Does this bother any other one s owners?

http://mobile.theverge.com/2012/7/16/3162319/android-jelly-bean-htc-hd2-hack
Granted the hd2 has been around for a long time and has an established base, the one s is a flagship device with great specs and seems like the developer base just isn't there. Why is that?
I actually think that's pretty damn awesome that they're able to do that. We need those devs on here
I don't disagree that its great there is continued development for the hd2, but the one s is in every way a much more capable device yet lacks a jb port that can even boot at this point. Chalk it up to the newness of the hardware and lack of experienced developers? Or is there not a lot of interest in this device?

It bothers me a lot. I keep saying that the community for this phone sucks but everyone just flames the hell out of me when I say that.
I mean this phone is full of flaws to begin with. Then it doesn't have the community to develop some quality roms for it. And all the tech sites are just blogging about the One X and neglecting the One S. So it doesn't attract any new people at all. Yet the One S is just as flagship as the One X. I believe that the S4 is still the best chip on the market right now.

The One S got overshadowed by the One X and then the Gal S 3. So simply put -- NO, there's not a lot of interest in the device. It's a shame because it truly is a great device, and is fast as hell. Unfortunately that's just how things so sometimes in the world of Android devices.
That being said, our dev community is by no means tiny. It's just smaller than the more popular devices like the HD2, and all the Nexus line. There's a lot of factors that play into the size of the dev community, such as specs, how hard/easy it is to unlock and root, kernel sources being released (this def hurt the One S for a while), manufacturer support, etc.

You get flamed, because even though the community lacks. You cannot take ANYTHING away from the dev's who have put time into making quality Rom's for the community. The word "sucks" brings down everyone who has put in work.
When i first got my Mytouch 4g Slide. There was 2 Rom's for atleast a month. Maybe 3 roms by 2 months. Be happy for what we have. Not for what we don't have.. if the community "sucks" so bad. Pick up a book and learn to cook us up some Rom's. Until then don't bring the dev's down because you're mad there isn't 15 roms to pick from..
S4 is the best IMO right now. Eventually things will kick up. Once the phone gets some time under it's belt. TMO will start giving them out at discounted prices. That's when this phone will pick up..
By all means don't take this as a "flame" because it's not. Just a friendly reminder that we do have good dev's. And they do deserve respect.

I think Blaming and Bashing is more useless.
I mean, You can't compare the size and the Quality of the HD2 community with the ONE S community.
Once google releases a OS that didn't came preloaded with our phone we should not be whining about why X phone (which is inferior than mine) already have that OS and we don't.
We will get JB someday, thanks to the developer community. As I said earlier, if you cant wait to have JB don't complain, learn to build JB from source and do it yourself or buy a HD2 (which by the looks of it, they already have JB)
Hd2 is from t mobile and it's a great phone

I'm pretty sure we'll get 4.1. Even the Blaze 4G is getting ICS.
Everything is ported to the hd2. It's the swiss army knife of phones. You want windows, android, meego? Boom! It's great just watching it unfold! Going to flash jb as soon as theirs a solid rom. Don't forget the hd2 has paid its dues from booting from sd and duel booting, etc. It's been a long grueling 3 years. The hos is still in its infancy.

No, it's more that homebrew communities develop around the devices that can be used off contract or at off-contract prices.
Hence things like the HD2, the Sensation, and the Nexus become far more popular than they otherwise would be if they couldn't be used on a ton of networks without full data pricing. In fact, those devices continue to be relevant long after their hardware would indicate they should be.
Not really
The Devs have already started the JB 10 roms cooking, I think we have some good devs in here, they ave already started the JB 10 roms cooking. I for one would love a full CM9 port with a good camera. I try not to worry what roms the other phones have seeing as I don't have those phones.
Hopefully you guys can get a larger community going. The support for my Sensation has been nothing short of phenomenal. Got ICS super early, already have had JB alphas for a week. The number of ROMs can be overwhelming, and truth be told the support is what keeps me with a phone that is lacking in the hardware department.

People seem to be forgetting that the reason jelly bean updates are rolling out so quickly is because a lot of the work was done in ICS. And previous to that ICS was a laborious process hampered by the refusal of google to release honeycomb.
This device didn't exist during gingerbread so we didn't have a large base of developers refreshing for a code drop so they could release something for a hungry and eager audience. Also, it's difficult to develop for a device that one doesn't own. The One is still a flagship model and few people own one and even fewer want to brick their new device.
If another six months pass and development hasn't picked up then we might be able to express concern but right now being worried about where the stuff is seems premature to me.

LG Never Again!!.... wait...

I'm sure most people here have used that phrase before at least once in a comment or talking to someone. It's the feeling of us g2x owners that bought the device with high expectations because it was arguably the best Android phone at the time, and because it has a "with Google" branding on the back. But the lack of support from LG left us with a bad feeling towards the company that is hard to look past it.
But, all of the sudden, a bright spot appeared this week when LG released the source of ICS for the SCU660 and ICS and JellyBean are possible once again. On top of that, today Google announced what's arguably the best smartphone right now (not only android), the Nexus 4, and this time with the nexus brand it will not get left behind in the software department.
So, it looks like I'm willing to give LG another chance with this new device despite the history with the g2x. And when the new roms (g2x) start appearing in the development section, I'll sure be flashing them.
What do you think about LG, are you giving them a chance too?

Except that in real life a lot if women stay with their abusive partners...
In my case, I've had a good track record with LG (two dumb phones followed by two smartphones), then the G2x. My next phone was going to be the Galaxy Nexus, but that's been replaced by the Nexus 4 and for the same price so looks like LG has me for my sixth phone in a row. After my contract is up in July, though, I'm still considering Windows Phone 8 or I'll just use the Nexus on a prepaid T-Mobile plan.

Agree completely, some people are just bitter. If you don't like lg sell your phone and get something else. Don't worry about someone else that has changed their opinion. I don't like how the g2x turned out and just like the op I told myself I wouldn't buy lg again, but the nexus 4 and it's specs look pretty good. I'm not going to pick it up right away, but I'm going to wait a few months and see how development goes. The nexus line has always been awesome for development and often the first to get new release of android.

I'll buy another LG once they officially release and support ICS on this phone like they should have a LOOONG time ago. Alternately if they come out and publicly acknowledged they completely, knowingly, willfully F'ed G2X buyers and offer us free Nexus 4's or other phone running ICS/JB with specs similar to or better than the G2x to make up for the lost money and many, many hours of wasted infuriating frustration.
I have a feeing the source drop and the SU660 ICS release may have been done under pressure from Google given the current LG/Nexus partnership, and while it's very welcome, it's also just about the smallest, minimal gesture that would actually still help heal the gigantic bloody insult LG has perpetrated on those who tried to support them by buying their new untested flagship phone at launch!!
T-Mobile/LG all but stole $500 from me when they sold me this deeply flawed phone. I don't forgive such theft because of a fancy new product or some dramatically late, minimal source code.
Maybe, maybe in a few years if they earn a stellar reputation of supporting their phones after purchase and keeping them updated with the latest Android I'll reconsider. But unless the Nexus partnership really changes LG's development dramatically I will not expect that to happen.
People, be nice to each other. Have some tolerance, it is better simply to not add to the fired when one or two already started going offtopic or being offensive to the OP, think about the bandwidth! :good:

Every phone has its faults and not everyone will like that's a given. However it's best to be a bit more elaborate & explain your likes & dislikes.
For me i personally dislike the fingerprint reader placement & also that Samsung didn't do enough to separate the S8+ from the Standard S8 (they should have imo had Duel Camera's & 6gb Ram on the plus), but for whatever reason it wasn't to be.

Sorry but your comment seems to be contradictory, on one hand your saying his post was rubbish, while on the other your saying actually it's ok and that it's ok .....[emoji12]
I know how you meant to write it though, however it comes across a little wrong....

I think the phone is nice, not worth the mad price though! Agreed that the finger print sensor placement is just poor. Camera only slightly better low light pics, I just feel... Meh.
I want that display on my mate 9. Then that would be a perfect phone. Can't live without 10 hours SOT anymore

There is alot Meh but for me personally i never have high expectations. I base my purchases on what i like about said device & is there enough to warrant my purchase.
So for me i sold my S7 Edge to buy the 3T (which i very much like). The S8 & Plus were announced (Missed alot about the S7 Edge) so my purchase was to get the things i missed (Camera, Wireless Charging, Water Resistance, Screen & Build) back, however this time there are gains in the Nice change of design, facial recognition, iris scanner, Camera does have a different Sony Sensor, faster more efficient processor.....
For my case it was worth purchasing, if however you have the S7 Edge then for the high price tag, unless you must have the latest device then you are perhaps better off waiting for the Note 8.

Aesthetics are always going to be subjective.
I think we are reaching a ceiling with mobile phones. They tend to be slowing down in terms of dynamics and capabilities rather than groundbreaking. Having written that the S8 does advance the screen real estate to a new level. I do ponder if the S8 is enough to warrant such a price tag when the S7 is still a highly formidable mobile?
I have to confess even a die hard tech geek like me questions the evolution of the S7 to the S8 but how far can one go with a mobile phone? For the first time in decades I am hesitant and rather unexcited about the 'latest and greatest' must have.......Having written that I will end up with one. Hopeless case...
