Hey everyone,
I have tried several different custom ROMs on my Nexus S, but I can never seem to get my data working with any of them. I can always send messages and make calls, but I can't do anything that involves data. Wi-fi usually works fine, but for some reason data just doesn't want to work.
I am in Canada, and I am on the Rogers network. Could this have something to do with it? I can't imagine why it would, but maybe these ROMs are all designed for American networks? I really like some of the custom ROMs out there, but it sucks because I can't take advantage of them!
I'm currently running a genuine updated version of ICS (4.0.4) that I found on the forum, and it works great.
Any help would be appreciated!
Also, when Google releases 4.1 for the Nexus S, will there be a genuine update available for download on XDA?
Thanks
Go to settings>more>mobile> networks>access point names and delete anything there, then type in your carrier's specific settings. Google 'Roger's apn settings' and you fill it in.

What numbers? I don't use rogers network, so I am obviously unfamiliar with your carrier settings, they do change over time. So how did you solve the problem? By flashing a different radio?

It is working, but only on the genuine ICS build that I'm running...still can't get it to work on any custom ROMs
any other suggestions??

Did you backup the genuine ICS (nandroid)? If so, the stock settings would be backed up including the apn settings. That's why it's working. try copying those settings or go to a Rogers store (not the one you bought the phone from if you still want the warranty) ask the guys there to set it up BECAUSE CALL AND SMS WORKS. THE ONLY REASON INTERNET DOESN'T WORK WHILE CALLS DO IS THE APN SETTINGS. IF CALLS DONT WORK, flash a new radio.

okay I will definitely try this. Is there any ways to keep all of my apps and contacts when flashing a custom ROM, or do I pretty much have to start from scratch? I know when I applied the actual ICS update I kept everything, but not when I flashed a custom ROM overtop

Titanium backup keeps all your apps and data, Google syncs all your contacts.

okay so it was the APN settings! turn out when I flash a new custom ROM, the default APN settings are set to the chatr network instead of Rogers. Thanks alot Billchen0014!

I installed CM7 alpha and this got rid on the Wifi Calling app. It doesn't even show up in manage applications.
I've tried flashing t0ny0's fixes and xboarders but nothing helps...
Anyone know what to do?
Try wiping cache and dalvik. If that doesn't work, nandroid backup and then factory reset. CM7 #5 does indeed have working wifi calling app
Same thing happened to me. Is there a way to install it separately?
From what I have read in the thread its suggested you wipe davlik b4 and after flashing. Cm,and also flash fixes posted within thread.
I have done all of that and still nothing...
Its not that it doesn't work, its that its nonexistent.
Did you it install for you in alpha 4?
Hmmmm, it's there for me. Well, there's a zip u can flash in the op of core Droid ROM

Ok thanks. I'm thinking it has to do with the do with the fix I installed from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261008
Maybe it somehow messed with some settings, but then again even if I go to my sense rom and clear everything and flashing cm7 alpha 5 and format everything wifi calling is still messed up...
I'll try again
Edit: i saw other people have had this problem in persiansown's thread

Do you have TMOUS sensation? If you do, paste me the output of: cat /proc/cmdline
The reason it is disappearing is that on flash, we check to see if you have a TMOUS sensation4g via your modelID, and if you don't we remove the apk. That way both euro and US people can use the same build.

I noticed the wificalling apk isn't in /system/apk in the cm7 zip files anymore.

How should I get it back? I flashed some guy's wifi calling zip from some sense rom, and it totally screwed up my entire phone, had to do nandroid restore.

Also I just reverted to stock via ruu, updated to ota, then flashed latest cm7 alpha6, and still no wifi calling
Persiansown says its probably due to people with super cid. The app is in the zip but it has a nonsensical file name. According to him the cm7 they built for sensation checks your cid and only installs the wifi calling app if your system has the t-mobile cid.
For anyone not on t-mobile, the app is just worthless bloat. Doing it this way means they only need to maintain one ROM file for both t-mobile and European phones.

I have been trying different ICS roms (MIUI, CM9) but something went wrong and now I am unable to call or send sms no matter what rom I use. I checked with MIUI, CM9, stock. Though 3g data works perfectly fine and I am able to use internet without any problem.

I have been unable to send or receive MMS messages to/from anyone. Outgoing messages just get stuck at "sending" and I've had multiple people try to send me an MMS. I believe my APN settings are correct based on other threads here. Has anyone else seen/dealt with/have a solution for this bug?
I'm currently running CM10.1 April 8 Nightly off of a clean complete wipe flash, but I believe the problem has occurred with prior versions as well.

I saw some commits related to unicode encoding with the MMS app. It's possible (Disclaimer: I am not a dev, these are just theories) that these have something to do with the MMS issue. You could extract the MMS.apk from a prior build (where your MMS was still functional) and push it to /system/apps, rename your current MMS.apk to MMS.bak (just in case), set permissions to R-W, R, R, then reboot. If that works then we know there's an issue with the CM commits to the MMS.apk.
Had the same problem this morning. Turns out I had mobile data turned off.

What that means is that your APN's might not be configured properly. Compare them to the ones listed here. If that doesn't fix the MMS issue then we'll have to investigate further.

I've put in a trouble call with AT&T hopefully they find something....
So according to AT&T there are no network problems but my phone is not responding to push notifications from them. They want me to bring it into a "core" store to have it checked out (not going to happen on behalf of the rooting/custom ROM). I'm wondering if my Android ID#/device hostname may have changed when I did a full wipe? Although I'm not even sure that would have any effect on my problem. I'm just tossing out ideas.

If I were you I'd just make a nandroid backup of my current setup, transfer that (and any other important data) to either my external or PC, ODIN back to stock and head over to an AT&T store. Just my two cents. You can always re-root and flash a custom ROM again. If you'd corrupted something through flashing (not saying you did, just a thought) getting AT&T to straighten it out and then going custom from there might be your best option.

Sinnce AT&T uses the IMEI number as the ID for the device, that wouldn't be the issue you aren't receiving push messages. I agree with mrfeuss, back up the phone, flash the stock rom, and go have AT&T fix it on their end. Then you can re-root and install your custom ROM again. Better to have them look at it than live without MMS.

Here is the most up to date Inverted Exchange Security Bypass Email modded apk out there. This allows you to use your corporate email without using a security pin. It is also the only 4.2.2 that is also inverted.
I was looking for this, and couldn't find one compiled for easy use, so just put it together for those flashers that couldn't/didn't want to put it together.
This was tested on CM 10.1 and AOKP JB. It should work on any AOSP JB ROM. Please let me know if it works for you. If you have a non AOSP rom, then delete your current email and exchange apks (backup) then flash this.

That was to lead into asking if there is an updated modem available that will not entail getting to the locked bootloader that I am on. The reason I ask is that for the i747, the AT&T SGS3, a fix to your issue is updating the modem. I have seen more than one reference to this solution.
