Problems downgrading from 4.0.4 - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hi,
Just wanted to sell my SGS 4g and flash it with valhalla 3.5 firmware.
I just flashed Teamacid 4.0.4 firmware and it worked nice for several days.
Then I wanted to flash KG4 via Odin, But it gave me some error after the flash in the yellow text base screen. Can't access to /system/csc/TMB/system/, But it managed to flash the rom.
I read in google it has something to do with the bootloader.
I tried afterward to flash KJ1 via ODIN, But although ODIN was successful - it didn't updated the rom to KJ1.
I needed to root the phone, So I used the zimage+root then the zimage patch with the red piranha fish and it got the phone rooted.
For some reason I couldn't flash the valhalla 3.5 rom to the machine. It said it was sucessful, but it didn't changed to valhalla after reboot.
I did managed to flash CM7.2, But I wanted the valhalla......
is it possible that the teamacid 4.0.4 rom changed some file/bootloader in a way I couldn't go back to 2.3.4 flawlessly ?

Do a Heimdall One-Click to KJ6. When the CSC error comes up, ignore it. It flashed fine. That warning is always present. Then do what you wish (install valhalla, etc.).

Thank you m4x and itzik.
I will do as you both suggested, and hopefully could flash the wanted rom in the end.

[Kernel][GB][KG4/KG6/KH2/KI1/KI3/KJ1] Stock Kernel + CWM + Voodoo EXT4 Lagfix

These are modded stock kernel from all gingerbread leak. I didn't change anything to these kernel, they are pure stock but did added few mods to it.
Things I added:
- CWM Recovery (Voodoo Red).
- Voodoo lagfix (it will convert /system, /data, and /cache partition to ext4 during first boot)
- Auto root (kernel will automatically root your GB ROM if its not rooted and install superuser.apk)
Installation procedure for RAW LEAK version:
- Install kernel using ODIN version, phone will reboot automatically.
- Go to recovery (adb reboot recovery).
- Disable voodoo
- Reboot
- Install busybox from market
- Go to recovery (adb reboot recovery)
- Enable voodoo
- Reboot

Actually where can i find the bootloaders? I flashed hawks deodexed sans the bootloaders. will I have to extract from original leak? Or should I still be on froyo cause I can't get into recovery on this rom

im flashing back to KD1 then ill flash the debloated version then ill odin this kernal see if that works
Damn! Now I have to switch to Gingerbread. Great work drhonk!
Thank You! You are the Man!
So... my kernel flash failed, and I got the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue." message... Am I screwed? or should I still be able to enter download mode?
EDIT: Scratch that, it took a bit, but my phone appeared in Odin again. No worries
DOUBLE EDIT: This just flashes in the 'PDA' field right? I'm not doing anything wrong?
AThis sounds like good news, if only i understood what most of the stuff meant. Can someone give me accurate, precise directions on flashing this, it would be greatly appreciated. Current info: I'm on balil 3.3UV kernel, ICBINB, and kf2 modem. Thanks for all the help awesome community! Thanks to drhonk for making this kernel too!

[Q] Kernal to Soft Brick

I've done this twice but tried to flash an updated kernal via odin and the result ends in a brick. I'm running Octane v2 and was flashing the KJ3 version. I can't remember what I was running before, but did the same thing as well. What gives?
Hard to say without more detail. You said you were trying to flash a kernel on top of Octane but, to my knowledge, no one has put a KJ3 kernel out there. You may be flashing a new ROM vs a kernel.
If you are trying to flash a new ROM (KJ3 in this case) to replace Octane, then you need to insure you don't have voodoo enabled when flashing a stock ROM as stock ROMs cannot read the ext4 filesystem.
If you've already flashed a stock KJ3 ROM, download drhonk's KJ1 kernel with root/cwm/voodoo, flash it via ODIN, let the phone boot, reboot into recovery, disable all voodoo, reboot the phone, then you should be in a good place to flash whatever GB ROM you want.
I meant KJ1 kernel. I already had octane flashed but flashing the kernel via Odin, it bricks. I don't want to flash thru cwm for fear of the same

I get no response from the screen, power button, or touch keys. It wont even respond to my JIG. It'll respond to the pc when I have odin open to let me know it's connected, but other than that, almost like a dead rock. When I odin it, It will flash with just the blue status bar.
If you're using Odin, could it be that you're flashing the kernel in the wrong slot?
It could also be a bad download.
I just flashed Octane v2.X two days ago, and I flashed the KI3 kernel through CWM. Everything worked fine for me.

[Q] How to get Red CWM

I was running Infused 2.2.3 for the longest time and when I always went into recovery it was red.
Well, I was switching roms and got a hiccup in the install and had to revert back to stock using odin and gtg unbrick.
Once I was back to stock froyo, I rooted, replaced the recovery.bin file with the no sig file and then went into rom manager and got cwm, rebooted, reinstalled packages, etc...
Well I have cwm, but when I get into it, its green lettering...not red.
Only reason I ask is because just about everywhere I see, they say get into red.
Any ideas on how I can get red installed?
thanks

When in cwm, choose to install zip from SD card and go all the way to bottom and select "update.zip" and if it doesn't reboot, select reboot now and it should boot into Red CWM. That might do it i think

thanks, I will prob have a rom with a stock kernel...if thats the case, can I flash entropys kernel (which is my choice one on custom roms) through odin in the pda slot?
thanks for the help.
I will only want to flash a custom kernel to get root, then back to stock because the rom I will be running is based on one of the newer leaks, and I want video.

Well you need to have a kernel with voodoo enabled like Entropy's or you can't get red cwm. The stock leaks HAVE to have a stock kernel for video to work however. Oh, and yes you can. You can do that or through SGS Kernel Flasher on the market. What do you need red for anyway?
Don't forget, if I helped you, hit thanks please

[Q]Rooting 2.3.6?

I am trying to help someone root their Tmobile Galaxy S 4G. Unfortunately, the threads I am reading here talk about voodoo lag fixes, altering the partitions to ext4, using super one click, etc. It all seems outdated as well.
The phone that I am rocking was rooted by simply flashing an insecure kernel through Odin and that's it. It delivered SU, a custom CWM, and busybox.
From my understanding his phone originally launched with froyo and was later pushed up to GB 2.3.6 by OTAs.
This is the phone's info:
Model: SGH-T959V
Firmware: 2.3.6
Baseband: T959VUVKJ6
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-T959VUVKJ6-CL694230
Build Number: Gingerbread.VUVKJ6
Is it not possible to Odin root onto this phone?
Yes. Odin one of the cwm kernels by drhonk, such as kj1, and then I would recommend flashing bhundvens latest kernel in cwm so you have the newer version of cwm.

Can you please explain what this voodoo lag fix is all about? I have seen in other posts where this has to be disabled(somehow) when moving from rom to rom.
So, flash drhonk's kernel to initially get CWM, but then follow up by flashing bhundven's kernel via CWM to update it?

Check out the wiki. It contains quite a few definitions including voodoo lagfix. Quick answer - it converts the /data, /cache, and can also convert /system partitions from the rfs file system to the ext4 fike system.

Or you could just go to the Dev section, find bhundven's "Subtlety Modified Stock" kernel. It's a CWM package but if you read through the OP, you can extract the kernel zImage and just fladh the kernel & recovery using Heimdall.
The latest SuoerOneClick will root it if that's all you really want or need.

I like odin myself just because I'm familar with it. But I hear heimdall is more reliable, so one of these days I plan on getting to know heimdall also.
So I get where your coming from. Of course way back when I thought cwm sounded too complicated, until my desire for a larger selection of ROMs forced me into it
as far as being simple to use ...
use bhundven's 1 click.
it is much easier than odin. and the name says it all "1 click" and you are done

Where I am sure that one clicks have made advancements since I last used them, they make me wary. I had a very bad experience with using super one brick in the past. So I tend to stay far away from them.
Everything worked out great for him though flashing KJ1 first in Odin followed up with bgundven's updated 2.3.6 kernel afterwards with CWM. It really helped him learn a lot of the behind the scenes stuff pertaining to rooting and I learned more than I ever wanted to know about a phone I will never use.
I just wanted to stop back here and say thank you for the information and the patience.
the one-clicks and SuperOneClick are totally different things. SuperOneClick is just for rooting but the one-clicks can install whole new ROMs or new kernels. Glad all is ok now though.

Soft-Bricking Phone Each Time I Flash

AT&T replaced my Infuse (which I was running JB and before that ICS), so I have a brand new phone.
Came stock with G 2.3.6.
I was able to flash jscott30 2.3.6 Gingerbread with root and CWM recovery option - link below. I chose option C. Phone is running great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613523
However, when I try to upgrade to a custom ICS or JB rom (doesn't matter which one) from CWM, the phone soft-bricks - meaning when it resets it's either stuck in Samsung boot loop or that crashed recovery loop.
I have to reflash in download mode to the link above, which thankfully works!
Bottom line - I can't flash any ICS or JB and can't figure out what the deal is. I had no problems flashing before with my old Infuse.
I'm clearly doing something wrong - any ideas? I know I'm not providing a lot of info, but I'm following each flash instruction to the letter (in each OP).
Thanks for any insight!
I don't want to wait for Samsung to upgrade to ICS - if they ever do.
I know it might be a dumb awnser/reply. But did u happen to pull battery out and reflash after it froze? Sometimes that helps. There shouldn't be any need to manually install CWM, as the ROM zips have the udated CWM built into them. Since you're coming from GB, the first reboot after installing ICS or JB, should boot you into the new BLUE CWM, after which you may need to format System, and flash again. Also, have you removed your External SD card before flashing? That's caused problems for some people.
My concern is that he said he flashed ICS but still has red CWM. I suggested Heimdall ICS recovery to get him to blue. I am relatively new but that is what I had to do to get ICS on the phone. But I am sure that there are other methods too.
