[solved]Replacing power button - Samsung Infuse 4G

My sister-in-law has an infuse and I think the power button is stuck in the "on" position. It just loops at the Samsung logo. I'm quite familiar with Odin, ROMs, Heimdall, etc. This isn't a bootloop. I pull the battery and the second I replace the battery it tries to boot without touching any buttons. So therefore I can't get into download mode, should this be a software issue. I think it is hardware, because I can replicate this issue on my infuse by holding the power button at all times.
The phone is 13 months old, so just out of warranty but not eligible for upgrade yet. The phone has insurance, but the deductible is $199...
Question is, can I replace this myself and where to get the replacement part?
Or can I trust this website?

Never mind. They don't have the button.
Just noticed this line on the page that you were looking at:
You will receive a message at your account inbox (account created during order process) on directions with details on HOW and WHERE to ship your device.

So, untill you pay, you have no idea where you're sending your phone.
Does the button look like it's stuck in? If the button is just stuck, try bumping the phone a few times.

No, the button still feels like it is able to be depressed. It feels right, but the phone is acting like the power button is always being held down.
I have googled and found numerous people with the same problem and most bring it in for a warranty exchange, I am just out of that window...

I know ebay has parts for phones, if you're good with a soldering gun, you can fix it yourself

Any luck with the power button problem? I seem to be having it too

Just to follow up, I reluctantly decided to send my phone to the link in the OP. I say reluctantly because I was super paranoid it was a scam.
let me tell you A++++ experience. Fixed overnight and I also paid for express shipping, I was back up and running in a week.

That was my experience also.
$8 = Shipping phone from my home to MobileTech 1st class ($5.50) plus insurance ($2.50).
$30 = Power Button replacement plus 1st class return shipping
Total cost to me = $38
I had my (daughter’s) Infuse back and running in less than a week.
I do live about two hours drive from MobileTechVideo's location, so shipping may be slightly more expensive or slower for others.
It was great service. They give you updates about the status.
Highly recommended by Nick and me for Infuse Power Button Repair

Just as another opinion...my warranty was up on my infuse when this started happening so an exchange wasn't an option. What I do is slam the device on only the power button a couple times and it works fine. I probably have to do this every couple of months, if at all. It works for now so...

I just sent my S2 phone to mobiletechvideos... I called them up yesterday and the person was very helpful...will know when I get it back hopefully next week...Based on what I read, seems legit.

I received my phone yesterday. I have no longer have issues with my S2 rebooting. I purchased the service through the website, mobiletechvideos, and paid through paypal. I purchased the basic powerbutton repair for $35. I immediately received an email with instructions. Send the phone with no battery, I printed out the instructions with a brief summary of what is the situation and included my order number. I mailed out the phone last Saturday, make sure you pay for insurance and it was sent on a first class box with the phone wrapped up in bubble wrap. Keep receipt for tracking information and insurance purpose. I received notification by email when the technician received it. You can check periodically for the status of your repair. He emailed me on Friday it was completed and shipped it out. I received my phone yesterday. Total days since I mailed it out, 9 days. There is an option on his website if you want faster service- purchase it.
Phone is working great, highly recommend his service.
Please remember to register an account on his website before your purchase the service. I will be sending out my other S2 next week. I destroyed my powerbutton by a fix that a member posted here, using pliers to squeeze the powerbutton. My other S2 didn't reboot like my newly fixed S2,the powerbutton just stopped working.
I highly recommend this service for $35 instead of buying another phone or you flashed the phone to another carrier and have no insurance.

Phone was rebooting right after saying rom name. Engaged power button. I COMPLETELY took apart the entire phone. Blew very hard on exposed switch. Removed board saw the power Switch looked normal blew on it Still Rebooted. Said what the hell doused it in alcohol Still Reboot.
Pushed the power switch REALLY hard... worked just fine now. Thanks much.

Thanks
My Infuse was boot looping for a week or so now. It was the loop of the Samsung white line and the Rogers screen. Over and over again. I read extensively as I didn't want to clutter the board with a question that was already answered. I came to the conclusion after much reading that my power button may be at fault. In this thread I read about just pressing the power button really hard. I thought what the heck. Nothing to lose. I tried it and WOW! My Infuse is sitting here running just fine. Many thanks again.

My Inspire died!

Help! I took the phone out of my pocket and it won't turn on. Tried pulling the battery. Plugging into wall charger does not light up the LED. Tried holding down power button, holding down volume button and then press power button. No response... Any other suggestions?
Has my phone died? I only got it on Friday, and is all stock. Have not rooted, never dropped or wet the phone. This is not good.
At least it's brand new and you can get another. Sorry man
Take it back and get a replacement

Yeah, I might have to take it back for replacement. This is not good... I hope it's just an isolated incident. Usually with an iPhone or Captivate, pretty easy to reset and bring back to life... Now I'd be scared to root and flash ROMs in the future if so easy to die.
Was your phone rooted? What Rom did you install?

Just got it exchanged for a brand new phone. The Costco cell booth guy couldn't get it started either. Hopefully won't happen again.

Any new phone would be covered in the OP's case as it's within the return window and warranted by the mfgr. Insurance wouldn't need to be used.
Strange, hope it doesn't happen again!
i haven't had any issues with mine. sounds like a defective product from the box. glad you got it taken care of.

My girlfriend bought this phone last night after i hyped it up cuz i have the evo. Anyway she got it home let it fully charge we went to use it and the screen wouldn't come on but if you held it to the light you could see all the capacitve dots (don't know if thats what they are) in the screen and you could see the clock and icons almost as if the screen was on without the backlight. so we had to pull the battery it worked for a about 15 minutes while i showed her stuff and when i went to log into the market i got a "force close" error and the htc splash screen came up and then it kinda did an awkward boot loop thing. it wouldnt stop so i pulled the battery again and now it is dead just like the OP phone no charging lights anything. i've read around the net a little bit and it don't sound like an isolated thing. i'm taking her phone back today but i don't know if i should have her stay with that htc or go toward the xperia that she was eye-ing up. sorry for the 5 page story

Not sure where to begin, but any help given is appreciated

I purchased a G2X online without the battery or back cover. So I go on ebay and buy a back cover and a battery.
I try to power it on, but holding the power button does not work. If I hold the power button and the volume down button simultaneously, I get the LG Splash screen and the bottom button lights come on, but then it shuts off. And it only does this when it's plugged into a power source.
Does this mean my battery is dead? Or has someone tried to flash something incorrectly and now the phone won't work? Again, I'm not even sure where to begin troubleshooting.
Much obliged

Is it a third party battery? You may want to try buying an official one from T-Mobile, pretty expensive but at least you can have some assurance that it'll work (if that is the problem).
It may not be the battery though, because my phone will turn on without a battery while plugged in so, try NVFlashing clockworkmod recovery and then see if you can boot into clockworkmod recovery, if you can then I think everything should be okay.

Yep sounds like a corrupted cwm install just search nvflash its super easy one click program.
If not get a new battery on Amazon or something good luck
Pin it to Win it.
Just a heads up. Typically replacement phones are sent out without a battery or back because they are a replacement. The company expects the customer to use his old battery and back from his previous phone. So people sell their old phones which may or may not have fixable issues. Therefore be very cautious when purchasing a naked phone.
That said. I would search xda, see if you can connect your phone to a computer and get your custom bling on.

Thanks for the input guys. I just realized in addition to the weird boot issue, the battery connecting pins inside the phone are broken. What a nightmare
If this phone was released last april, can i send this to the manufacturer for a warranty repair?

Yeah, you HAVE to be the original owner. Not have a receipt as T-Mobile checks who was the first person to put their SIM card in it.
Why would you buy a phone without knowing if it works or not anyways?

Grey screen when waking up from sleep mode

Ever since I installed the latest firmware (basically it forced it right out of the box on 7/20) I've been having issues getting out of sleep mode. About 80% of the time, when I hit the power button to wake it up, instead of the home screen I get a grey, snowy looking screen. Usually if I let it go back to sleep and hit the power button again, it comes up normally. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries before it works. I contacted Asus and they want me to send it in for diagnostics. I refuse to send this in after only having it for 4 days. If anything, I'm taking it back to Best Buy for a refund.
I'm hoping someone has experienced something like this and can help me so I don't have to return it. I waited so long just like everyone else for this thing and I just want it to work. I've attached two pictures of the problem. Any ideas?

One thing I forgot to put in the first post, I have done a cold boot and it did not solve the problem.
Sounds like a hardware issue to me. You can try a factory reset first, just yo be safe though....

I tried another Cold Boot first, and it was working fine for most of yesterday afternoon. Then it happened again, so I did the factory reset. Got my stuff loaded back on and was using it for a few hours before bed. Got up this morning, picked it up and hit the power button......grey screen. Waited a minute, hit the button again, everything was fine. Got ready for work, had some cereal, picked it up and tapped the power button...grey screen. I gave it a minute and once I got the home screen to come up I hit factory reset and once it was wiped I powered it down, cleaned off the screen and put it all back in it's original packaging. It's going back to Best Buy.
Here's the nice part. I called Best Buy customer service and this is why I love Best Buy. They're sending me a UPS return label to ship this one back at no cost. They're also sending me a brand new one today via next day air at no cost to me. They're not charging me up front for the new one and then refunding me when the old one gets to them. This was a very smooth transaction. Very happy with Best Buy right now! :good:
Let's hope the new one doesn't suffer the same issue (or a different one!).

Nexus S won't power up?

I recently flashed CMRex with Kejar's 4.1.1 gapps and was going about setting up my device. I got everything set up how I like with all the apps I wanted downloaded and running how I wanted them. I then ran the v6 supercharger mod that I had used on my past two roms with no problem whatsoever. After finishing the set up of the script, I rebooted my device and all was well. I went to browse on craigslist's mobile app, then I saw something I wanted to google, so I opened my browser. My browser took an ungodly amount of time to load my homepage(google), and wouldn't respond hardly. I couldn't get the touchscreen to respond. My hardware buttons did respond and I got haptic feedback from them, but no response on the screen. Eventually, after numerously pressing the home button, I got a message saying the browser wasn't responding, selected ok to close it, then back to the non-responsiveness of the touch screen and hardware buttons. And then another eventually later, after another multitude of home button presses, I got to my homescreen but everything was laggy. The most lag I have ever encountered with my device since I obtained it, not to mention that my device was beginning to heat up. So, I decided I would power off the device, remove the battery, let it cool down, and then replace the battery before powering it back up. Well, lo and behold, I did just that, went to power back up my device, and there was no sign of life at all. Tried to get into the bootloader, no response. Tried a normal boot, no response. Tried to plug it into the charger to see if it would charge, no response. Well, my girlfriend told me to leave the battery out for a while and leave it alone for a while before trying it again. So, I played some MW3 for about 45 minutes to an hour, repeated all the above, and still no sign of life. Can anyone help me out? (I don't know if this is supposed to go into the Q&A or here, so I just post here.) I'm so distraught at the possibility of losing my phone, that I'm finding it hard to cope at the moment. Should be thinking of ways to gain some money in order to purchase a new device or is there still hope?
what a long message.do you have any point form here?
i hope you solve the problem .
Do you have access to a separate charger? You can try charging your battery there and see if that works. Did you try connecting it to the computer? Maybe that will show some sign of life. Also, how old is your phone and did you over clock?

I did not overclock, I do believe that my clock speeds were at the kernel default, either 100/1k, or 200/1k. Not sure which, but definitely one of those. The only other charger I would have access to would be my mother's HTC charger, but I will try that and connecting it to the computer as well. Well, I'm not exactly sure on the age of the phone because I purchased it off of craigslist, but it's in great condition. Only had a small scuff on the top left corner, but I know that has nothing to do with the age of the hardware. ): Could it possibly be that my battery decided to die for some reason? I've been having horribly battery life lately. Granted, I had horribly battery life when I got the phone, but it's gotten worse and worse since then.
My Nexus S wouldn't start but gave a flash on the screen when the battery was first inserted. Just got it back from repair and it was a motherboard problem. Was looking at a Huawei G300 as a cheap replacement if the repair wasn't covered by warranty (which it was). Good luck!
Thing about it is, I bought the phone off craigslist so I have no idea if its covered by the warranty still. Should I try calling samsung and find out?

Sorry for my late reply! You could try, but u guess you can get a battery from Ebay and check if that solved the problem. Or if you have a friend who has one...

Testing the battery can be done differently, do you have a multimeter? Maybe your neighbours have one, it's a common thing. You can measure whether it has any power left. If you measure low voltage (below let's say 3400 mV), then it could be battery related.

If you've got no warranty, perhaps time to buy a new phone? Bought myself a new Galaxy Nexus.
I would like to get a new galaxy nexus, but I have no money to do so. I'm currently trying to get a job and i m going to save up for a new phone. Im either going to get an s3, a galaxy nexus. Either one of those two or the new nexus if it comes out.

Anyone have their T-Mobile G5 completely die on them?

My phone was at about 26% battery left... Next thing I know I try turning it on after watching a half hour of TV and get no response. Removed/re-seated battery, tried booting into recovery, kept the power cord plugged in for a half hour thinking it was a dead battery.. No luck.... It just wont turn on! Completely stock.. No abuse, drops, spills whatsoever..
Any tips on what else I could try save for taking it back to the store to get it replaced?
Thanks.
Mine wouldn't turn on when I unboxed it. I plugged it in for an hour but never saw any lights or led or acknowledgment of charging then I pushed up and down volume and it turned on. I thought it was dead
Interesting... I left it plugged in overnight..Booted right up but it shutdown right away.. Maybe a bad battery...I guess it's going back today.
I've had my phone up and going for about 3 days now and haven't had a problem since taking it out the box.
No problem here

Mine got progressively worse. It started with the lock button not locking the first try then the second and then the third. Then the fingerprint scanner went. And then the power button/ lock button completely went. I sent it back to T-Mobile and they sent me a new device. It did however cost me some money like $5 or $10.
So if you got insurance it's 5 dollar processing u can call 611 and they can send it out like the guy above me said If u don't have insurance T-Mobile can process the warranty extchange for 20$ through lg or u can do it or self through lg for free but if your in 14 days it's free through the store
yeah 5 or 20 bucks to tmobile, 150 to asurion lol
I bought mine from a wholeseller and brand new and it just died completely for no reason at all. Nothing powered it on.

Sadly, I had this happen to me back in May. Spent the day taking pictures and got back home to place it on the charger. After an hour or so, when to use the phone and it locked up. Had to do a battery pull and could never get it to start again. Ended up calling T-Mo tech support even though I didn't have insurance on it and was past 30 days, they still shipped a new one out. Made sure to put insurance on just in case it happened again.
My power button died during my recent Europe trip.
It started displaying the power menu (like the power button was being held down) several times in a row, and using it as a screen-off button became more and more erratic.
Finally the button stopped working at all. I pulled battery, even tried a factory reset. By some miracle I was able to press the button just right, and it came back on.
Thank goodness for double-tap, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to keep taking photos of my trip!
Rather than deal with T-Mobile and (no) insurance, I just submitted a repair report and Fedex'd it directly to LG (free shipping). I'm currently on my old Samsung Galaxy S4 that I unlocked from Sprint.
Right before I sent it in, I pulled the battery again and was able to get the button to respond about 3 out of 10 presses. I didn't want to risk this on my trip, and this is obviously not acceptable, so I boxed it up- hopefully they are able to recreate the problem and not pass it back to me with no repair/replacement (don't want to be the guy whose car only makes noises when the mechanic's listening).
Hopefully this is a hardware problem that LG can recognize and diagnose for a more robust device, like the boot-loop epidemic on the G4.
Other than that, I love this thing! Great photos during my trip. The wide-angle and long-exposures are my favorite.
