Not sure where to begin, but any help given is appreciated - T-Mobile LG G2x

I purchased a G2X online without the battery or back cover. So I go on ebay and buy a back cover and a battery.
I try to power it on, but holding the power button does not work. If I hold the power button and the volume down button simultaneously, I get the LG Splash screen and the bottom button lights come on, but then it shuts off. And it only does this when it's plugged into a power source.
Does this mean my battery is dead? Or has someone tried to flash something incorrectly and now the phone won't work? Again, I'm not even sure where to begin troubleshooting.
Much obliged

Is it a third party battery? You may want to try buying an official one from T-Mobile, pretty expensive but at least you can have some assurance that it'll work (if that is the problem).
It may not be the battery though, because my phone will turn on without a battery while plugged in so, try NVFlashing clockworkmod recovery and then see if you can boot into clockworkmod recovery, if you can then I think everything should be okay.

Yep sounds like a corrupted cwm install just search nvflash its super easy one click program.
If not get a new battery on Amazon or something good luck
Pin it to Win it.

Just a heads up. Typically replacement phones are sent out without a battery or back because they are a replacement. The company expects the customer to use his old battery and back from his previous phone. So people sell their old phones which may or may not have fixable issues. Therefore be very cautious when purchasing a naked phone.
That said. I would search xda, see if you can connect your phone to a computer and get your custom bling on.

Thanks for the input guys. I just realized in addition to the weird boot issue, the battery connecting pins inside the phone are broken. What a nightmare
If this phone was released last april, can i send this to the manufacturer for a warranty repair?

Yeah, you HAVE to be the original owner. Not have a receipt as T-Mobile checks who was the first person to put their SIM card in it.
Why would you buy a phone without knowing if it works or not anyways?

My Inspire died!

Help! I took the phone out of my pocket and it won't turn on. Tried pulling the battery. Plugging into wall charger does not light up the LED. Tried holding down power button, holding down volume button and then press power button. No response... Any other suggestions?
Has my phone died? I only got it on Friday, and is all stock. Have not rooted, never dropped or wet the phone. This is not good.
At least it's brand new and you can get another. Sorry man
Take it back and get a replacement

Yeah, I might have to take it back for replacement. This is not good... I hope it's just an isolated incident. Usually with an iPhone or Captivate, pretty easy to reset and bring back to life... Now I'd be scared to root and flash ROMs in the future if so easy to die.
Was your phone rooted? What Rom did you install?

Just got it exchanged for a brand new phone. The Costco cell booth guy couldn't get it started either. Hopefully won't happen again.

Any new phone would be covered in the OP's case as it's within the return window and warranted by the mfgr. Insurance wouldn't need to be used.
Strange, hope it doesn't happen again!
i haven't had any issues with mine. sounds like a defective product from the box. glad you got it taken care of.

My girlfriend bought this phone last night after i hyped it up cuz i have the evo. Anyway she got it home let it fully charge we went to use it and the screen wouldn't come on but if you held it to the light you could see all the capacitve dots (don't know if thats what they are) in the screen and you could see the clock and icons almost as if the screen was on without the backlight. so we had to pull the battery it worked for a about 15 minutes while i showed her stuff and when i went to log into the market i got a "force close" error and the htc splash screen came up and then it kinda did an awkward boot loop thing. it wouldnt stop so i pulled the battery again and now it is dead just like the OP phone no charging lights anything. i've read around the net a little bit and it don't sound like an isolated thing. i'm taking her phone back today but i don't know if i should have her stay with that htc or go toward the xperia that she was eye-ing up. sorry for the 5 page story

[resolved]I think my digitizer is broke. maybe its the rom

I dont know it it is a software issue to what. Last night I put my phone in my pocket. I pulled it out and the screen was a frozen white noise image. I dont know it my phone is locked up cause I used the revolution rom or the screen went bad. Any ideas?
I will try to add a phone. I currently am using my old pantech c300 due to lack of back up phones.

Before I offer any advice, what have you done so far to try and remedy this (i.e. battery pull, reformat phone, bang it on a desk...)? I just need to know what you've done before I try and offer you the same solution...
WHat I have tried
I have currently tried battery pull. Restore via power/volume down. I just tried to restart again for giggle. my bt headset did say phone 2 connected.
currently this is what the screen looks like,.
You can just text me with advice if it would be easier. thanks again.
Where you overclockign at all? GPU,CPU or OV~UV gpu failure could do that
No overclocking I know of. Heck I'd stock if I could get it back

I'm not sure exactly how this applies to HTC phones, but for Samsung phones, the 3-button boot into recovery usually clears these kinds of issues right up!
Once you get into recovery, we clear data, cache and dalvik cache, potentially restoring your phone back to stock condition. Yes, you lose all your stuff, but whatever was causing the malfunction is usually gone at that point. There's a possibility it could just be how your ROM was interacting with your lovely manufactured equipment (YMMV - Your Mileage May Vary, meaning not all phones are built the same so what works for some may not work for others due to the small differences in every manufactured part...)
Now as far as your screen goes, did you drop it or anything like that? Do you think this was physically damaged while in your pocket at all? Does it get pretty hot when in your pockets or was it hot this time when you pulled it out?
Not hot. It wont go into boot loader

I followed this. Several time. I changed batteries. changed sd card. and left the battery out for 30. Still not working.
1. Remove the battery, wait for a few seconds, then reinsert the battery.
2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
3. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button.
4. Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button."
So the phone works.just had the alarm go off. If that's any help.

It was found out to be the screen. I had a friend mess with it and he said it just came back on. he made it stock again and it goes out Monday for warranty. I gotta pay for shipping but its alot cheaper than a new phone.
Interesting. Who manufactured the screen? There seem to be a lot of issues with the Sensations display, it would be cool if we could isolate it to one of the two manufacturers.
Might want to change your title to reflect "[SOLVED]" somewhere in it, also.
Sorry I couldn't help more, but hardware isn't my thing

When you say he messed with it, what exactly did he do?
I quoted wdhat he said. sorry for the vague wording. I believe he took the back off and suspended it upside down from teh back for an hour then restarted it 15 times and it came back on. after that he went put it all back together. From what he said if you press on certain parts of the screen it goes out. but then others if comes back. Similar to a teeter totter. as he put it. I am guessing a ribbon has come loose or something

Need Major Help!!!

My Phone is dead!!! I came into work and all was well. I turned on the Mobile Internet and turned off the Wifi and then it froze. I waited and waited. No change. I took the batter cover off and removed the battery. Put it back in and put the cover back on. Now my phone wont charge or turn on. The battery was at 50% when it was on. I just flashed to a new rom (see sig) on the 30th but haven't touched the radio.
I need help because I do not get a replacement phone until July!!
EDIT: I got my phone up and running. I removed battery and SD card and put them back in. The phone is booted and charging.
1. Take out the battery plug in the power only and then power it on. Hold down the power button for a long time. Remember this phone will not power up without the cover on.
2. Don't worry you can exchange it for a new one.
3. Don't freak out its only a phone.

That SD card should not have been the cause for his problem...without some sort of a log for when the problem intially happened it'll be tough to really diagnose the exact issue that happened...either way I'm glad you're up and running! now that I'm curious though, did you mess around with any UV or OC settings? or flash a new kernel or script?
I wish I could find a log. I have no idea why what I did caused the phone to work. But to my knowledge since flashing to this Rom, I have not under volted or oced the phone.
Yes... I realize it is a phone but it's an expensive thing to replace when you have no extra money to buy a new phone at cost.

no worries man, logs are difficult because unless you're running one when the problem happens, the log itself is useless so unless you had prior knowledge that this was gonna happen, really can't expect you to have one lol, hence the big issue with logs haha! When you do battery pulls, it's best to wait like a minute before putting it back in and restarting, I don't know if there is a scientific reason behind it but I figure it's best to give it time to fully settle before you try restarting.
Thanks for the reply and the tip.
The main reason you want to leave the battery out for a bit is to give everything a chance to discharge and go completely to sleep. I have found with smart phones that usually 60 to 120 seconds is enough. Cars on the other hand can sometimes take hours!
If you need an activity log to diagnose what happened, maybe Carrier IQ can help.

[solved]Replacing power button

My sister-in-law has an infuse and I think the power button is stuck in the "on" position. It just loops at the Samsung logo. I'm quite familiar with Odin, ROMs, Heimdall, etc. This isn't a bootloop. I pull the battery and the second I replace the battery it tries to boot without touching any buttons. So therefore I can't get into download mode, should this be a software issue. I think it is hardware, because I can replicate this issue on my infuse by holding the power button at all times.
The phone is 13 months old, so just out of warranty but not eligible for upgrade yet. The phone has insurance, but the deductible is $199...
Question is, can I replace this myself and where to get the replacement part?
Or can I trust this website?

So, untill you pay, you have no idea where you're sending your phone.
Does the button look like it's stuck in? If the button is just stuck, try bumping the phone a few times.
No, the button still feels like it is able to be depressed. It feels right, but the phone is acting like the power button is always being held down.
I have googled and found numerous people with the same problem and most bring it in for a warranty exchange, I am just out of that window...
I know ebay has parts for phones, if you're good with a soldering gun, you can fix it yourself

That was my experience also.
$8 = Shipping phone from my home to MobileTech 1st class ($5.50) plus insurance ($2.50).
$30 = Power Button replacement plus 1st class return shipping
Total cost to me = $38
I had my (daughter’s) Infuse back and running in less than a week.
I do live about two hours drive from MobileTechVideo's location, so shipping may be slightly more expensive or slower for others.
It was great service. They give you updates about the status.

I just sent my S2 phone to mobiletechvideos... I called them up yesterday and the person was very helpful...will know when I get it back hopefully next week...Based on what I read, seems legit.
I received my phone yesterday. I have no longer have issues with my S2 rebooting. I purchased the service through the website, mobiletechvideos, and paid through paypal. I purchased the basic powerbutton repair for $35. I immediately received an email with instructions. Send the phone with no battery, I printed out the instructions with a brief summary of what is the situation and included my order number. I mailed out the phone last Saturday, make sure you pay for insurance and it was sent on a first class box with the phone wrapped up in bubble wrap. Keep receipt for tracking information and insurance purpose. I received notification by email when the technician received it. You can check periodically for the status of your repair. He emailed me on Friday it was completed and shipped it out. I received my phone yesterday. Total days since I mailed it out, 9 days. There is an option on his website if you want faster service- purchase it.
Phone is working great, highly recommend his service.
Please remember to register an account on his website before your purchase the service. I will be sending out my other S2 next week. I destroyed my powerbutton by a fix that a member posted here, using pliers to squeeze the powerbutton. My other S2 didn't reboot like my newly fixed S2,the powerbutton just stopped working.
I highly recommend this service for $35 instead of buying another phone or you flashed the phone to another carrier and have no insurance.

Phone was rebooting right after saying rom name. Engaged power button. I COMPLETELY took apart the entire phone. Blew very hard on exposed switch. Removed board saw the power Switch looked normal blew on it Still Rebooted. Said what the hell doused it in alcohol Still Reboot.
Pushed the power switch REALLY hard... worked just fine now. Thanks much.
Thanks
My Infuse was boot looping for a week or so now. It was the loop of the Samsung white line and the Rogers screen. Over and over again. I read extensively as I didn't want to clutter the board with a question that was already answered. I came to the conclusion after much reading that my power button may be at fault. In this thread I read about just pressing the power button really hard. I thought what the heck. Nothing to lose. I tried it and WOW! My Infuse is sitting here running just fine. Many thanks again.

How to fix a phone when you have "deleted" its ability to charge

So I just did this.
My phone was dead. A paperweight. It in its coffin, its box.
Until I received a message from one awesome person who told me I can still save my phone.
Basically, what I did was wipe out my recovery and wipe a lot of other stuff using TWRP recovery and using format data and advanced options.
My phone wouldnt even charge so I gave up hope.
Then I received an awesome message from an awesome person who explained how I could still access my bootloader and guided me through this guide as to how I can flash in a stock OS- https://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701
So I told my brother to charge his phone, and then took mine apart. and then took his apart. then used his battery to turn on my phone and flash the image. I did it.
then I turned my phone on and it got stuck at the google screen. Similar to the problem the first time around.
I turned it off and tried to charge it and thankfully I could. So it wasnt as bad.
So I flashed again and this time we got to another screen. Still google but a better animation.
It was taking too long to load so I turned it off and then on again.
And voila. One of the quickest boot ups I've had with the Nexus 5.
So that's how you do it. I'm not 100% sure if this is the right place for this and I apologise for the rantish style of this post but I am so happy about this.
There was a casualty though. My brothers phones power button was broken. Meaning I could only turn it off once and I wouldnt be able to turn it on unless I fix the power button.
I have not been able to fix the power button because the inner power button is broken. I,e I think it needs to be soldered back on. So thats one phone which died in order to save another.
I could look for help with someone in my family who knows how to solder stuff on and see what we can do.
Does anyone know any way I could get away with this without soldering?
even if it means I can only use the power button once. As in like, if there's any way I could turn on my phone, even just once, but then I dont need to solder?
I can keep my phone charged all the time after that...
The power button to turn it on is a very cheap piece... Think about a 2 USD 10 pcs.. buy it on eBay and take the mobo to any place that could do the job (take the old button apart and put the new one) it's sounds like a big deal but it's not
Good luck mate

I opened it up and the power button seems fine. Its just been separated from the motherboard so it needs to be soldered on so idk why I would need to buy a new power button.
I have no experience with soldering stuff so yes I am going to take it to a shop and ask the guy to repair it.
Still recommend to get a new power button, you'll have to go to a shop and ask somebody to do the job, it's better to do it with a brand new button
