Help me get the kernel source unlocked for CM/other dev related. - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Please like my comment on HTC Australia's facebook page. If we harass them enough, hopefully they will cave in.
I can't post links yet so look up HTC Australia, and or liam lambkin (llambkin) on facebook.

We have no idea what comment it is that we should Like though...

That's like saying a doctor will only save a life if X amount of people like this photo. It's stupid - no offense. If, and I mean a big if, facebook comments were ever taken into consideration for tech feedback it would be quantity of posts about it that would be taken seriously, not one that's just liked a lot.

Is HTC in the habbit of not releasing kernel source or something? this is my first HTC phone so i wouldn't know but I'd think they are going to release it eventually. don't they really need harassing?

They typically release it within 90 to 120 days apparently.
Haha, or of they are particularly spiteful they add a day every time someone asks.

threads like this take me back to the vibrant and g2x days. guess I got spoiled in the 5months I spent in the GS2 forums lol

just liked it

I really wish someone could hack into HTC and get the source code.
Release to source or pay the price, muaahahahaha.

Yes unlock Sensation Bootloader.
yes unlock bootloader... but this will not help... what will really make htc unlock their bootloader is if we boycott them and say we will not buy the sensation at all if its locked and convince others not to buy it... but its a longshot so i vote yes
Ofcourse Yes!
Yes unlockable.

And that was for phones already sold & HTC was still in its beginings as the "HTC" brand outside the umberella.

I doubt this is the best way to make a petition. Can't we make a petition on Petitiononline.com or something? We would reach a wider audience and get more signatures. We could send it to Android and tech related websites for people to sign. So we can make a more powerful statement to HTC and maybe also Motorola that the public wants to have the choice to do whatever they want with their devices.

Agreed, but the threads in this Sensation section aren't getting many hits. I'd say ask moderators for a petition on the homepage or something that catches more eyes than here.
But great idea, I was waiting for someone to start a petition. Keep up the good work! Let's maximize the potential of this petition!
I agree that the use of a petition web site outside of XDA would be useful. Not everyone who would want to vote is a registered XDA member and I'm not the type of person to be inclined to register somewhere just to cast a vote.
Now, if you were to use something like Facebook... I'm sure you'll get more votes there. Plus, other web sites probably wouldn't have a problem linking to it from their web sites (Android Central, Phandroid, Engadget, etc.).

wont buy a locked sensation
this device sounds like the promise of the year,
but i wont think about buying it till i see the development threads filling with custom ROMs .
i love HTC hardware , but i hate the sense !!!!! and although the sense3 looks better it will still be far behind Cyanogen mods, performance wise .
and as a HERO owner ( hopping soon to be ex ) i know how HTC neglects the old devices . had 1.5, HTC promised 1.6 and then they promised 2.0, and finally when i got 2.1, everyone already had froyo. ahh
I dont want to see their stupid flipclock weather thing ever again
bottom line is:
only when HTC sensation will run CM7 ill buy it..
Why is it locked in the first place? Noobs won't know what bootloader is and so won't be messing up their phones and people like us who mod our phones know what we are doing (or at least think we do) and so won't mess up our phones anyway... Having it unlocked just saves us the time of having to hack it to unlock. Really don't see what they achieve??!?
116 (yes) is better than 5 (not) but I want to know who voted not?
If you don't like Sensation just don't vote... (samsung fans)...

Counting updates. Evo 3d & Sensation

Have you noticed how quick HTC & Sprint are to fix the issues with the Evo 3D?
Evo 3D has had 2 updates already. 1 before and 1 right after launch.
T-Mo on the other hand does nothing..and the Sensation has way more issues than the Evo 3D.
Let's weigh in and see what you guys think the reason is.
Personally i think it was just a bad batch or 2. Each device seems to have different versions of different problems. most people are only complaining because they go looking for an issue most times. Dust can only be seen if the screen is off is not anything honestly to complain about to me. A couple dead pixels? yes. Lag and things like that can be fixed i think.

T-Mo likes to put out collective updates that fix multiple things, rather than two small updates that might lead to other issues...
There aren't many major issues with this phone either...most of the ones complained about are hardware (which must be replaced) or user error. There are alot of clueless people complaining about problems that aren't even problems here.
Agree with the above post.....
People have to keep mind that the Sensation is, for a vast majority of owners, a problem free device.
Other than a speck of dust on my first one, my second one is just about perfect....hardware and software.
It's a VERY small % of Sensation owners that ever even look at any forums, let alone post on forums. Even then, the people who are on this forum and have major issues over and over are in the extreme minority.
As far as updates and s-off and all that stuff....wasn't it just a month ago that the CEO of HTC said they were going to change their policy on bootloaders? Thats not long at all...gotta give corporations time to get their ducks in a row.
For me and a VAST majority of owners of this device.....its great and doesn't really need anything that's urgent or absolutely necessary....
Oh....the OP should add one more poll question..... Is everything great with your device? My answer would be yes!
Htc has already "leaked" an update for their unbranded sensations...

Have you seen the reviews on tmobile.com? This phone has 5 STARS. There's 2 reviews that have 1 star. Probably from an apple fanboy who created accounts to spam.
I picked up my Sensation today, and the only thing that bothers me is the dang voicemail icon that's always there. Other than that. This phone is pretty awesome, and T-Mobile's network speeds compared to what I was getting with Sprint makes me wonder how in the world I stayed with Sprint so long.

Yeah. I don't understand why we all can't get along. We all have the same passion for the same devices. I guess newbies ARE annoying..I can agree on that. But flaming for no reason is so rude and nonproductive.
So far I'm quite happy with my Sensation. Best device I've had and I've had quite a few. However, it does seem that the Sensation is being pushed aside. At Bestbuy today there were plenty of accessories for the 3D including the Otterbox cases but absolutely nothing for the Sensation. Why? I'm not sure but its becoming rather annoying as this seems to be the case everywhere so far.

[SOON] Kernel Source Getting Released?

Hi guys,
I recently complained to htcdev about the kernel source not being released and I threatened legal action as they are in violation of GPL. Here is what they came back with:
Dear Rohan Mathur,
Thank you for contacting HTC. I will gladly assist you with your request for the kernel source code for your HTC One X.
New source codes are typically posted to the HTC developer site within 90-120 days after a new device is released or after an update is released for the phone. In most cases it will not take this long for the source code to be made available Rohan. The kernel source code for teh One X will be posted as soon as we have it ready for the developer community.
Please check back from time to time on the developer site for the One X source code. HTC does their best to make the kernel source code available as soon as possible for all HTC devotees and android enthusiasts. For more information and other developer resources, be sure to check other areas of our developer site from http://www.htcdev.com/ .
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause Rohan, and I hope that this will not detract from your overall use and enjoyment of the One X until the kernel source code is made available. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.
If you have other questions for me Rohan, please don't hesitate to reply. We are open from 6am to 1am eastern time, 7 days a week. Please include your serial number or IMEI from menu> settings> about> phone identity> with all support requests.
Take care Rohan, and have a great weekend!

I'm kind of suprised that an actual human responded to me and didn't just send me the generic answer (notice the typo of "teh" instead of "the")
Anyway, this leads me to believe that it will be soon. 30 days of those 90-120 are almost done, so lets hope that it comes soon!

I don't understand why AT&T would do that. What's in it for them to make then wait? Eventually it will be released. I mean I just can't understand who the are trying to screw but not releasing it. It can't be developers because they wouldn't want to lose sales. I'm sure they don't care who buys the phone, developer or not.

I'm amazed at how some people can act like little children.
I never used any of Scott's work before but I've heard he turned out some pretty kickass stuff.
*sigh* People will never learn.
When people ignore mods telling them to knock it off, you know it's not going to end well.
Maybe a timeout for a day or two will let cooler heads prevail in the end.
I understand, if I was in Scott's position I would probably do the same. I just thinks it's funny how things clearly say what to do, and someone still messes it up.
I just sucks that people have to take it so far as to blame the dev for not doing something. When it for one flashing any thing has always been at your own risk, and two getting pissed off, and posting a nasty thread instead of just asking for help politely.

I'm pretty sure he is on his rom forums, maybe, just maybe if those people apologize, and we all ask nicely he may come back.
His work is great, I mean the s3 forums are donating to get him a phone. That alone should say something.
Now we are down to, we'll one sense rom that is kept up. And our aosp roms which can't progress much more without source.

So I have a few choice words that I think this entire forum should read, but its mainly directed to whomever was talking crap about Scott. And I don't know who it was. And I apologize for the occasional profanity, but its stuff like this that really hits home for me.
As developers, we try to enhance the user experience of our phones for the good of the community. We don't get anything out of developing besides the occasional donation that someone gives us since they like our work. We aren't forced to do the work that we do. I can turn around right now and cease all development on the two ROMs I do (AOKP and Evervolv) for this phone. But I don't. Want to know why? Because of all the people in the threads saying "Wow, this ROM is awesome! Thanks Rohan!" and "This made my phone really awesome! Thanks!". If I didn't have those people then I wouldn't feel like updating the ROM. Even if you aren't using my ROMs and you drop in to say "This looks awesome, though I will wait for more stability!" That feels good too since you know someone still liked your work.
When you have someone calling you "selfish" and "annoying" it gets to you. When you put your work out, you want it to be the best. When it isn't the best, you try to make it the best. Thats why I and every other developer on XDA update and fix bugs. We want the ROM to be the best it can be. Thats why I stay up regularly till 2 AM looking up new Android features and the Platform Guide on the android developer site. I want to become a better developer for the community. Not for myself, but for the community. When you have someone degrading yourself, you feel like ****. And when you don't feel good about your work, you feel like the community is not enjoying your work. At that point it becomes a "why bother even updating this" sort of thing.
So when someone is being an asshat in the forums against you, it hurts. If you think that putting these ROMs out benefits us, the developers in any way besides the infrequent donation, you are sorely mistaken. We put these ROMs out for the community. I enjoy making ROMs for the community because I like to see all of the "Great job!" posts in my thread. It vindicates my work and proves me right that I can indeed make a ROM people like. Sure, the donations are an added plus and they help as well.
And now onto the "selfish" part of that statement. Are. you. effing. kidding. me. Seriously? You call us selfish. After staying up late hours to get a ROM out for YOU, you turn around and call us selfish? I dont even know what to say to that statement. We are not "selfish." You think putting our name onto a ROM is the best prize in the world? Why the flying f*** would we need that? So that people know my name? Are you effing kidding me?
So whomever it was, GTFO. The work that we do as developers benefits nobody but the people of these forums. We, the developers help make XDA how great it is. If you don't want to deal with developers, please, go back to stock. We don't need you to run our ROMs.
And to the rest of you, thank you for showing your support. Its a sad day when someone as nice as Scott is lost due to a few spoilt brats in the forums. And please, if you are using a custom ROM and you are enjoying it, tell your developer that you like it. Tell them that this phone became better because of their work. I promise you that we read the posts when we have time. And whenever we do it makes us feel a bit more warm and fuzzy inside.

It doesn't work that way, you sniveling little d!ckheads. Sad thing is like at least 4 people had the same issue, and it's all from lack of reading.

Yep, back when the SD card wiping issues first started happening he told everyone not to use CWM and to use TWRP instead. Buuuut people don't want to do any actual reading so it becomes Scott's fault for not showing up at their doorstep and holding their hand for them when they flash his ROMs, cross the street, take a piss, what have you. Bottom line is if you flash, you assume ALL risk. It's your own damn fault for not reading. Even if you're flashing an updated version of the ROM you've been running for months, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS read the entire OP for changelog, flash instructions, etc. The moron in question said that it's because his xda app didn't put the warning in red but bottom line is it was still there. Had he READ THE ENTIRE OP, he would have seen the warning whether it was red, green, blue or purple with pink polka dots. His own damn fault, and at this point I'm glad his phone got eff'd up. Serves him right.

Axiom ROM

Has the Axiom ROM's development been stopped? I see the thread is now closed.
And I can't seem to find the download link to the Axiom version 2.8 version anywhere...

Running Viper Rom now. Quite good.
But with Axiom gone, it seems like Viper Rom is the only game in town....for me at least, because I like de-Sensed ROMs
Thanks!

Ok, why?
This was the last working T-Mobile ROM, it seems. Viper doesn't have WiFi calling, I am not sure if anything does. Why the heck did they close the thread and take down all download links?
Too many people complaining, there were also some bugs but I think over time axiom could have evolved into something better, its not the end though, energy ROM is still going and that is just as good

I'm not going to comment further on this other than to say this guy is incorrect and certainly is in no position to speak for the team.
Energy rom is very nice, if you guys need wifi calling.
And nothing huge was wrong with the last version of axiom, the sense version anyways.

Aww. That sucks. I love de-sensed ROMs that keep the Sense camera. Can we at least have a download link for the latest Sense-less ROM? Or someone can PM it to me, thats ok

Well, you are in a position to speak for the team. Do you think leaving one's users hanging without any warning or explanation is something a developer should ever do? I know from own experience that ROM development is hard work, and you were doing it for free. However, your ROM had a following, people were mostly very happy, you promised some future. Than out of the blue - boom! No more Axiom S! Gone! No explanation, no warning, no clarification - nothing! Closed the thread, turned off the lights, went home.
I see Mike is already hacking SGIII. That's cool, but you don't just stick a finger at your users, and go find another set of users. At the very least you owe them an explanation where you are going and why.

Not speaking for anyone...but the Axiom team did post on Twitter that they were ceasing development due to hate mail...probably what he meant when he referred to complaining.
"Development of Axiom ROMs has ceased. After much thought, tons of hate mail & other nonsense, we've come to the conclusion it's not worth it"-Axiom website/Twitter
I Am? I didn't know I was hacking the SGS3. Lol
Here's the thing...Axiom ROMs was never.....ever in my plans. Honestly how it started was Zylith and Zydroid. Zylith got busy so I picked up the slack and did more. Keep in mind I was doing this because this is what I wanted in a ROM and just happened to share it with the community, because it was Zylith's to begin with.
Personally, I got tired of the lack of support for HTC phones as of late. I originally was going to get a SGS3 over the One S, but decided not to wait for its release. Now I'm where I wanted to be originally. I'm sorry if you feel like I turned my back....AXSuite was open-sourced.....all that was needed now was a stock 1.84 base and those tweaks to be dropped right in...and BOOM, Axiom ROM again.
Things are rather busy in my life right now.....How? Well....I'm married for one.....got a kid on the way for two, getting into real estate for three, and Apple just did a product release which me, being a Tech Support Advisor for them....have to work much more hours.....which is already cutting away the time i had before.
Don't lash out at the rest of the team because of the unhappiness or disappointment you've experienced with production of a ROM ceased. Everyone has a brain and can learn this stuff people! You depend so much on people like us to do the work, why not learn it instead of getting pissed off because we choose personal lives over Android?
Last I checked....no one pays my bills, no even paid to use Axiom ROMs.....so we're not obligated to discussing anything really.
Don't mean to sound like a asshole, but I'm the only one who gives a damn about my personal life, no one else in here does. I gotta llok out for my best interest....so it is what it is. As for me doing work on the SGS3....not gonna happen. I won't be doing any ROMs for it, I'm much to busy to maintain a public release!
Stop with the PMs, stop with the frustration. AXSuite is open-sourced and for public use. Learn how to make a ROM and get it running. The whole reason we open-sourced it in the first place was to inspire others that want to learn how to do it, to actually do it!
Hate me or love me guys, I had to say what I needed to say. Not trying to be no douche or inconsiderate....I felt you guys deserved at least a reason as to why things happened the way they have....Nothing personal against anyone....but I gotta look out for me and my family and thats time that I can't spend on Android for now....

Thanks for clarifying that....
Some of the team members lost interest because of how things started to turn out... People calling us kangs of Venom tweaks etc etc....you know the ordeal. We decided it's not fun anymore, not worth it either. We did it for free....asked for nothing in return. Seeing you all happy was enough for us. But the hate mail along with what's stated above....just killed the motivation....
Don't hate us for it, look at the users of other One S ROMs....not saying names....they're the ones who discouraged us. Imagine catching BS from people you don't know for you contributing something you expect nothing in return from....we're all human...

By all means man, family comes first. Thank you (and your team) for the hard work that you put into the rom. It is very much appreciated. I myself would love to get to a level where I could develop, rather for myself or public, but between work, kids, and life, it would never happen, thank you for using the little free time you have to help us. The fact that you put as much time and dedication into the work you did is truly a source of charity for everyone who used your roms, or any of the information you provided. I'm sorry that you had to deal with hate mail and complainers. Too many people out there feel they are 'owed' something, and don't get the fact that what you do is out of kindness and hobby, and not something that you are obligated to do.
Take care, congrats on the upcoming baby, and good luck.
...oh, and sorry about all the hate mail you're going to get at work for the lack luster iPhone 5

Here are the key parts being over looked, highlighted in bold: Development of Axiom ROMs has ceased. After much thought, tons of hate mail & other nonsense, we've come to the conclusion it's not worth it". By the way I don't need anyone to remind me what I WROTE on Twitter. And one last thing the hate mail wasn't from our users!
