Strange glitch...no update option (GT-P6210) - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

Good morming...I just was looking around under settings, and noticed under under the "about device", I dont have an option to check for updates. I remeber before seeing it, but would me being rooted have anything to do with that. I am enclosing a screenshoot to show what I mean. Any input on this would be appreciated.

Very weird. Are u sure it cant be scrolled ?
Or maybe try full wipe ?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using Tapatalk 2

Samsung remotely removed the option because they never plan on updating....
just kidding of course.
This happen to me a bunch of times, Its from removing a certain samsung .apk from /system/app/ not exactly sure which one.

Have u tried reboot?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using Tapatalk 2

I don't have one too. But I know I had one. I uninstalled the Update apk of some sort though so I know the reason why it isn't on mine. I also disabled it at Start-up.

Thank you all for your input. I just checked and I still have the software apk installed. And i did a reboot and still dont have the option to check for updates, so I guess I will try a wipe and see what that does.

Have you tried simply turning on and off the "Auto update" option right below the "Update (Check for updates)"-listing?
That sometimes helps.

I havent been on honeycomb for a long time, but I know this happened to me a few times, and I researched by deleting one samsung apk at a time. I think its the SamsungApps.apk or the samsung store, strangely enough.
there is a way to check for OTA's without this option in settings.. at least for gt-p6200 by going into service mode.. ( you can choose from 3 different OTA servers..; at least for my device I could)
cheers.

Update: I tried doing a full wipe but didnt restore the update button, so I had to reflash the firmware with Odin, and have the update option back. I just wished I knew what I deleted that caused this and not happen again.
Sent from my GT-P6210 using Tapatalk 2

Damn dude, it is very unlikely the ICS came as OTA update or samsung releases any HC OTA update before ICS. So you have all this trouble for a dead option.
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk 2

Well, I've very similar problem with my P6210. I have Software update option in About device menu but if I tap Update (Check for software update) nothing happens since I put CWM to my tab.

Toggle the "Auto Update" button first couple of times and then the "Update". That should work.

This is all that needs to be done. When mine was doing this, I just unchecked both boxes for automatic software update.

[Q] System firmware update problem.

Hi Guys,
Running the latest stock firmware here, but when I click on the system firmware update option, check update is greyed out and I'm told "There is a system firmware update for your device. Please check notifications."
Well there is no notification and I am running the latest firmware..... Is this a bug? Anyone else have this?
Ta
Paul
Hmm I assume by the lack of replies it's just me. I've tried plugging into my dock to see if that was the issue, but alas the same problem persists.
The notification is a little triangle in the status bar. It's not the most obvious icon.
Lastly, if you can download the update, you can rename it to update.zip and maybe flash it through recovery.

Ive gotten the notification recently but im on a rooted tf. when i click it, it just dissapears and nothing downloads or anything. Seems like a bug because im also on the latest firmware, even if it is the Prime rom. Plus only 2 or 3 ppl have reported it.

Sorry, my reading comprehension was below par. I understand the issue now. Try going into Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/All. Find DMClient and hit the clear data button.

That's the file responsible for firmware update. If u are rooted, u can use titanium backup to freeze the file to stop the system from checking for and notifying of updates

Ta mate, I understand now.
Thanks for this --- had to Google to find this thread because a lot of people don't seem to mention it, so it must be a problem that isn't very widely spread.
I was wondering why I hadn't gotten an update since September! Finally, abnormal battery drain solved! Wooo
Clearing the data for the DMClient when the system says an update is available but has no actual notification to hit, should be added to the troubleshooting thread as a fix.
Many thanks for this tip !!!
I have the same problem but your advice doesn't work ;/

[Q] T & N shutting down setting

I'm running 5.0.1 stock, kernel 3.4.0, build LRX21Y, S/W version D85020f. Rooted and verified with root checker. TWRP is working fine. Problem: When I attempt to enter the "Tethering & Networks" settings, settings shuts down. As far as I can tell, everything else works just fine. Any ideas what a solution might be.

The title makes no since until you read this post lol no one will know what T&N is. Did you change your build.prop? That causes that.

You can block SDM.apk with this debloater if you don't want to be nagged anymore. Seeing that the update was already downloaded you will have to enter recovery mode and clear cache to get rid of the install nag. After you do that and disable SDM.apk you will no longer get the notification. I went ahead and installed it anyways because I'm not too concerned with root. I'd rather have a secure device.

Your welcome. I feel the same here. My S6 lost root the Note 4 never had it except the dev ed I had for a short time so I got used to no root as well. With the debloater it's no big deal for me anymore and being able to theme really settled the issue for me. I can do basically everything I want and still have a secure phone without worrying when root will get killed. I do miss building ROMs a little but I can deal without it.
weird layout after update
So I took the update and since the all my menus are on the right side of screen, my send button in text is now on the left side as well as my statusbar icons. Nobody else mentioned this. Is it just my n5?

New update - PD2

Full build is G920VVRU4CPD2 and as the firmware isn't available, you are to check for an OTA to get it.
Comes with loads of new stuff, and removes some (bye-bye Amazon app).
Find the changelog here.
And, be sure to check for a firmware here - Galaxy S6 firmware

I got it OTA.
downloading now...will post an update on my thoughts
edit: pretty much just minor bug fixes, removal of amazon music and expanded application manager capabilities...nothing spectacular
My only thought- May 1 Security Patch and May isn't even over yet? OMG! Maybe Verizon has gotten serious.
Captured .md5 for the update and am uploading to Mega now. Will provide link when completed. Edit: Link is https://mega.nz/#!M15nCSyJ!n1p78jWWdRJNGejBT8BaqqXC1c-TzPx8CSuoiTQkt6Q sorry I had forgotten encryption key. Mirror

Accidentally took the update yesterday. Nothing new. However, lots of apps seemed to be acting strange after the update. Spotify crashing and Maps not displaying all results. Did a system cache wipe and all seems to be better. Anyone else?

Now, Advanced Calling is not working. I toggled it on and off, tried switching to just HD Voice, rather than HD Voice and Video calling. It appears as though everything is correct, but it is not working when a call is actually placed. Boo.

Yes and no. Verizon has a nasty habit of disabling it at hardware level. So not only did they decide we don't need it but will NEVER need it. Honestly just another money thing for them. Why would you use your data, and maybe pay for more, to listen to music?
