I was under the assumption that the Tegra 3 in the 701 was supposed to be 1.3ghz. At least all the specs say so.
Just got mine yesterday, and SystemTunerPro and SetCpu show it to be 1.4ghz.
Did I miss something in all the marketing specs??? Or did Acer pull a "fast one"?

I've seen conflicting specs on the 701. Some sites say 1.3, some say 1.4. Will be interesting to see what the other 701 owners confirm mate :good:

It is still 1.3 ghz
A Tegra 3 running at 1.2 ghz can go up to 1.3
The 1.6 ghz of the Infinity can go up to 1.7 ghz

I can understand that in a sense. But was just surprised that the CPU is adjustable up to a set 1.4. Most devices that advertise a certain ghz, usually are set at that until you modify the kernel for OC/UV.
Thought the Infinity 700 3/4G was still slated to use the Qualcom S4 processor?

I'm currently running phoenix ultimate w/Tagrak.
It's OC'ed at 1.3 GHz ATM.
It has made a seeming performance change to my phone. But i want to take it further and OC to 1.5 or even 1.6 if possible. After hours of researching, the CPU in the Cappy is capable of running at 1.6 at the fastest.
Does anyone know any APP that will allow you to OC higher than 1.3 GHz? and has OC'ed higher than 1.3?

What kernel are you running? AFAIK the only kernel that supports 1500/1600mhz is Onix, which is the kernel I'm running. Best OC experience I've gotten on the captivate was 1344. I was using Phoenix with the Paragon 1344 kernel.
Once you get Onix, voltage control will let you OC to 1600, but you might not even be able to hit 1400 and stay on for more than 5 mins (my situation)
I'm pretty sure this should be in Q/A, no?

no reason the chip cant do that running @ 3volts with dry ice or liquid nitrogen cooling

the kernel needs to support the different timing modes used. onix will allow up to 1600. to my experience nearly all phones go up to 1200 a vast majority to 1280-1300 im barely stable @1300 myself. but 1344-1400 is the limit with only a few exceptions. every chip is different and i have a feeling the earlier phones had less consistant manufacturing. samsung may also be cherry picking chips that clock better for the galaxy s 2 mini which is supposed to be a hummingbird clocked up to 1400 out of the box.
keep in mind that 30% overclock is significant. if i tried that on my pc it wouldn't run very long.
I can get mine stable at 1.4 using Onix kernel and Serendipity rom. I tried 1.5 and 1.6 but was not able to get it to run.
I've come to the conclusion that OC achieves very little... UV even less.

My computer has just over a 35% overclock on the CPU...
I went from 2.8 GHz to 3.8 GHz.

A ) im guessing not on the cheapo heatsink they sold you with the cpu unless it is one of those "black edition" something or other chips that are marketed towards overclockers
B) i dont see aftermarket heatsinks out there for cell phone processors

Just wondering. Is it at all possible to squeeze in an effective heat sink on the captivate? would be an interesting mod to have.
My Cappuccino can run at 1400 stable, but the extra 400 MHz didn't really make a difference.

the processor is rated @ 1.4Ghz..mine runs up to 1.8 so far, tried ziggy's kernel at 2.03 and it froze immediately...I run at 1497/368 and love it.

I've ran it at 1.8Ghz with no instability, but at a significant power cost. I currently run at ~1.4 with smartass on.

Couple of things for you:
First, I doubt your device will run stable at 1.6 GHz. Most Galaxy S-type devices won't run stable above 1.4 GHz, and while some do, only a very lucky few can run at 1.6 GHz.
Second, yes, you can damage your CPU doing that. Higher clock speed = more heat generated & more time at higher voltages. That means more chance of doing physical hardware damage to your device.
That being said... you are *probably* not likely to do harm to your device if you overclock to 1.6 (and it manages to be stable) and you aren't running benchmarks 24/7.
I think the real question for you, is why would you want to run your device that fast? If you want high benchmark scores to impress your friends, just cheat Quadrant, way easier, and less chance of causing problems. If your device is so unresponsive at it's current speed, then find a different ROM/software setup.
1.6 GHz should never really be necessary.

Take a look at Chainfire3d with the Nvidia module.
Long story short, all of the current "dual core" phones are running Tegra2. But Tegra2 GPU <= Hummingbird GPU.
Problem is, games optimized for the Tegra will have a harder time running on our PowerVR. Not because of graphics horsepower, but because of specific optimization done by the programmers.
Chainfire's driver deal should help with that, in fact there is a thread floating around here somewhere with all the files you need.
PS Don't worry about those dual cores phones beating up on your little Captivate. Once you get it rooted, loaded up with a custom ROM and kernel, and running Gingerbread, I think you'll find none of the competition comes close...
I tried 1.6 ghz once and it was like insta-freeze. I'm very stable at 1.4 though.

Excuse me, I should say you can get it to 1.8, but 1.6 is the the highest that's really stable. I seem to have read that may people have gotten 1.8 with few issues however.

There was a kernel that reported 1.8 incorrectly.
I have looked at those 1.7 GHz kernels and there is some interesting development going on with voltages to make it more stable but it is a weird bastard conglomeration of clocks and those kernels have there own issues. The limiting factor it's not the quality of the CPU but that the multipliers are locked at no more than 8 times the buss speed. Overclocking beyond 1.6 means buss overclocking which causes all kings of issues that must be worked through often by under clocking other things. most infuses are perfectly stable at 1.6 with no special treatment like exists in those 1.7 kernels but heat can run away and cause crashes when using the cell and GPS radios. It would be cool to run some benchmarks on Miui with 1.7 GHz to see if you can break 5000 in quadrant but really it is only 6% more than what we have in a perfect stable form. Not to mention that the CPU is throttled and would rarely see that speed and tweaking the governor would probably do more for the user since going to 1.7 means compromises in other clocks and potential problems.
It's not a matter of possible but a matter of why?
And for the record the best experience I had with my captivate was on froyo with glitterballs' stream kernel which had some cool stuff going on with hardware acceleration running jfs lagfix at 800 mhz. If I could get some of that in a GB kernel that I could run at 600 or 800 mhz with the insane undervolt my CPU can tolerate I'd be in heaven. Battery life for days!
Nobody still have discussed it but... our Moto Z XT1650-03 are *really* underclocked!!!
Let's start from the beginning...
First models on marked were the Verizon's Droid version and their SD820 were clocked @2.15 GHz (at least so declared officially Motorola)...
Then came out the unbranded international version and, even if not so "advertized" by Motorola, it's clock was lowered (officially...), to 1.82 GHz. True?
False.
Even if apps like CPU-Z find the CPU able to work between 300 MHz and 1.82 GHz, the real clock frequencies used by Moto Z are in the range 652 MHz - 1.59 GHz!!!
Using root, both my "reference" apps, Antutu CPU Master Pro & FauxClock show this range (652 - 1,59) as used BUT while the lower clock can be lowered to 300 MHz (best setting for longer battery life in my opinion... ), there is NO option to go over 1.59 GHZ at all!!!
From my experience there should be two more setting 1.82 GHZ and, probably, something around @1.7x GHz, but both are unavailable on stock kernel.
So, if @erfanoabdi has really raised clock to real 2.15 GHz in its modified kernel, the difference in performance should be really noticeable! (I don't know about battery life anyway... ).

2 core of them is clockable up to 2.15
And other 2 core is clockable up to 1.5
And you can also check it by kernel adiutor app on your device.
International version of moto z using same hardware as Verizon edition but kernel of them are different and CPU of it underclocked to 1.3 and 1.8 Hz
There is some restrictions for GPU too and I fixed them on my kernel
So don't worry
Use my turboZ or Verizon (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69459891&postcount=205) kernel for better speed and performance

With turboz kernel 0.7 it never pass 1.59.
Performance are great all most everywhere with elementalX governor. Just some scrolling stuttering. All is fast and no lags.
It's probably because it's reading the speeds of the other 2 cores in the "efficiency" cluster.

Hello. I am interested in purchasing this phone but am confused by the different versions and conflicting specs that I see online for each. So certain versions have the faster 2.15GHz processor vs 1.8GHz but lack Band 12 support (I'm on T-Mobile). While the others have Band 12 but have the slower processor? Is that correct; there is no way to have both?

You can have both by unlocking the bootloader and installing custom roms.

I think only a specific variant like the Verizon one is in a bs state when it comes to software. Other than that one, you should be "on equal grounds".
