Just want to know if its just me or other people also. Lately even when I have service I don't actually have service..... Internet won't work/don't get texts I have to restart my phone to get it working again. Just want to know if it my phone or the service. Im running on [ROM-Leak][ODIN] Gingerbread 2.3.4 T959VUVKG4.
I had a similar issue coupke if weeks ago. Lasted about a day here. do you have the problem when using wifi too?

No I have no issues with wifi.. This has been going on for about 3 days now... it pissing me off....
You could try flashing another modem and see if it gives you better results. It might just be that KG4 isn't good for your area.
um go To Wirless & networks then go to Mobile Networks Network operators and hit search now.. and when tmobile comes up click on it... try that see if it works
i don't know if this is considered a service issue or not though, but i did have a couple of calls that did not go through and i'm on Valhalla 1.3.2.
Anyone else you know in your area on T-Mobile? If so are they having an issue? If not, definitely turn off the phone, reseat the SIM (if it's old, go get a new one), then see if it's better. If not, try what bkoon said. Let us know how it goes.

I'm still new to this so I don't know how to flash a modem/what exactly a modem is but I will look it up and see.
Also I didn't say it in the OP but this happens randomly. I sometimes go for almost the whole day without it doing this and sometimes it happens 10 mins after I turn on my phone.

If she's having a similar issue on a totally different phone it would seem to be a T-Mobile issue. Does it only happen in a certain area (your house, places you go/hang out, etc.) or all over the city?

Ah, I misunderstood. I thought you meant she has the same issue. What about doing a factory data reset & also reseating the SIM? Barring that, maybe flash a new ROM onto it to see if that helps. As bkoon alluded to, some modems (the part that talks to T-Mobile as well as wifi) work better in some areas than in others. Flashing a different ROM via ODIN would give you a different modem.
If you just want to flash the modem itself via ODIN, take a look in the developer forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192436). You open ODIN, put the modem file in the "PHONE" location, and hit start.
If you need help, let me know & I'll help in any way I can.

I have to admit I'm CWM stupid Iv'e only ever flashed dsexton's Adrenaline Shot from CWM. I've never flashed a new ROM that way. I imagine it's the same as flashing any other ZIP, though. Tell me what steps you followed & where you're stuck & I'll do my best to help.
I'm more of an ODIN guy, but that's because I'm fairly new to this too.

Well the thing is I have full bars and even says 4G but it acts like I have no service(also this only started recently and I used to never have problems). It hasn't happened since I installed a new ROM yet but I have only had the ROM for about 5 hours. I am going to try out modems also to see if I can get better reception in some areas, but I have never changed the modem before so we will see how it all goes.
I am trying to upgrade my stock 2.2 Froyo phone to 2.3 Gingerbread through Kies, using a MacBook Pro.
I am running Mac OSx 10.6.8 and can not get my phone to be recognized by Kies Mini, despite trying every configuration of USB options.
Has anyone encountered a similar issue? I also cannot even mount my SD card anymore, even if I choose "mass storage," so perhaps my problems are rooted somewhere else?
Any help is appreciated, I have tried searching XDA as well as other forums, Google, Samsung/TMo's sites, to no avail.
TY in advance!

That is what I have tried following, with nothing going on. Finally, after several tries of going into "Kies (Firmware Update)", Kies Mini gave me an error msg that said "current connection mode is not supported by kies."
Do you use a mac?

Oh and to the first responder, I looked at everything on the page when you said that. Thanks for wasting my time. Saw nothing remotely related or helpful, except for someone with a rooted phone having trouble in "download mode," which I can't even get to. My phone is legit stock -- because I am lazy, etc.
"The device is not supported by Kies Mini."
I'm not a Mac guy, so I can't really help there. Given that it's even having issues in mass storage makes me wonder if you would have the same problem on a different Mac or a PC. Would you have the chance to try that?
I use Macs, and honestly I only used Odin on a friends PC to initially install Gingerbread, since then I've been downloading my roms and other files directly to the phone and using CWM to do everything. I'm done trying to use my Mac with this phone since Samsung doesn't support isync as they should.
I'm just waiting for the devs here to get their new roms up before upgrading to the official build.

Yeah ok well thank you for being so helpful then. Ended up having to use an old XP computer at a friend's. It took forever, but I have gingerbread now. I am running stock with Screen Filter set at about 40% most of the time, and I am getting INSANE battery. Like I have not used it too much at work but I would usually have about 40% right now, maybe lower because I have been checking it periodically/texting.
I am 90% at 3 p.m... 7 hours after I took it off of the charger... Is this what I should have been getting all along? Did I have a virus or just a really ****ty battery hogging app? My phone used to always say it was the screen using all of the battery power.
Or is my phone calculating more battery than it really has?
Glad you got it working! Enjoy the crazy battery life. How fast it goes down really depends on usage per person but I believe most people reported better battery on GB vs. Froyo.
I tend to turn off my wifi when not in use, GPS is always off, display brightness is at the minimum, etc - basic things one can do to help the battery life. I've not attempted the under-volting or anything others have used to get even more life from the battery.
Hi everyone, this is my first post requesting help.
My skyrocket charges with the usb port but wont connect. I tried a darkside wipe, format of system data cache emmc and reflashing many roms. I want to use odin and try to use stock.recovery and rom to see if it works. I enter download mode and it still wont connect. I reinstalled kies and still doesnt work. Its not my computer cause my t989 galaxy s2 connects and these two phones are nearly identical.
Running ics real thing 4.2 v9 cwm touch by realsk8tr
If possible, try another computer.
I have the same problem with mine. This is a new problem that just started a couple weeks ago. Mine seems to be a hardware problem since it won't recognize USB connection in CWM, Odin, the stock rom, or my current Sky ICS rom.
I'll flash back to stock and send it back for warranty repair once I get another phone to use. I have a contract renewal coming up in May, so I'll do something then (I bought this one off contract, so I have to send it to Samsung)
Its a real pain because I have to transfer everything wirelessly between to/from my laptop.

It is a new problem that occured after using the ics leak. I cant believe there isnt a solution. Can you link me to a zip method that will return me to stock GB without the use of odin? And can i send my skyrocket in for warranty replacement? I never got insurance on it, i brought it in november from att nyc. This skyrocket also gets dev/block errors upon format. Any ideas guys?

Just for the heck of it try uninstalling kies, the drivers should stick. Sometimes that'll do the trick

Mine happened while I was still stock/rooted. I had changed nothing for several weeks. It just stopped recognizing when it was connected to USB. I have tested on multiple computers and tested another sgs2 on my laptop. The problem is definitely with my phone. No other computers recognize my phone is connected, phone won't mount USB, etc. Yet other phones work fine when connecting to my laptop.
I even flashed back to stock GB 2.3.5 , etc. Its not an ICS issue since this happened prior to flashing ICS (it actually went tits up in March prior to the leak).
I have a GB 2.3.5 Nandroid backup I'll flash before sending it to Samsung.
Samsung warranty is good for one year. AT&T will only do a 30 day exchange type warranty. Anything after 30 days has to go back to Samsung repair.
My only concern is without a USB connection I can't flash to the stock recovery. I can flash to stock GB and unroot and clean it up on the ROM side, but it will still have CWM recovery. Oh well.
The way I see it this is definitely a hardware issue. Samsung should fix the hardware problem regardless of the recovery software.

I guess I should have stated I have tried about 6 different cords.... I am a Systems Admin, so I've tried all the obvious fixes. It just absolutely will not recognize a USB connection anymore. Also, none of the computers recognize that a USB device has been connected.
It's definitely something wrong with the USB on the device.

I did flash the note modem once maybe my efs is corrupt
No, it's not that. It's hardware. It's almost certainly a cold solder joint. Must be a bad batch of I727s out there, mine's doing the same thing.
Sunday, I had a 30 minute call. After, I noticed the phone would charge, but couldn't get the computer to see it as a USB device. Last night, after an hour long call, I tried it and it worked. Managed to get it into download mode, flashed the stock .tar with ODIN, and got back to stock. About five minutes after that it started failing again (charging but not connecting, etc).
I'm using my T989 as a charger. If you can find a way to charge the battery, what I'm testing now might work. [EDIT: I re-read the OP and you have a T989 as well so you're set!] I'll post back. I set up a call to a test number (909-390-1390 is a 1Khz continuous tone) and placed the phone on the back of my video card with the USB cable connected. If it connects, we'll know this works for heating the phone up enough to temporarily 'fix' the cold solder joint.
But my skyrocket charges perfectly, via wall charger and usb, i have no need to use a external charger
You may not have the same issue as I have. I will note that as mine degrades it'll start acting as though I'm repeatedly unplugging it (PC rapidly going through USB connect/disconnect cycles, etc), then it'll still show that it's charging although the PC no longer recognizes it, until finally it acts as though the USB does nothing at all. The hotter I get the phone, the longer each stage takes.
Im just concerned that cwm will bone you from Samsung. one crazy idea is force brick so it doesn't turn on at all if they can't see recovery then you can anyways claim power failure

I read, I see, I understand
This is a good thread. My skyrocket is a used one from Texas. Won it on Ebay. Shipped out quick. Nice unit except it did exactly what I see described here.
It worked great the first day as a stock ice cream sandwich or whatever you call the ATT skyrocket software package Android 4.0 something. The USB hookup started getting flaky the more I used it, it would disconnect. It was unhooking, and I'd click to "copy files to PC" button again and again. It made rooting it a real challenge.
As if getting your arms around "Odin" wasn't intimidating enough...
I thought it might be from being jiggled, so when I was stashing the last of my downloads to flash CM9, I was careful to have it on a surface when I gently touched the screen and got all the files copied I wanted, and the phone, computer, and data cord left untouched, appeared to "work" ahead of the epic fail.
After I flashed the new CM9 from (wow thanks team chopsticks!) the USB is not recognized either in the skyrocket nor the computer, nothing. It shows charge, that's it.
I intend to get a USB reader for the microchip as a work-around. The phone screams. This is my second skyrocket and the new CyanogenMod 9 is the love I've been looking for. At last, a phone that can bring up a gallery full. My first skyrocket had trouble when the 32 GB microchip approached full. This one flips the 20 GB worth of pages full of folders up like nothing flat.
Also, interesting detail on this used Ebay phone... the first thing I noticed is you can't power it off. The seller shipped it with the battery removed. I tried plugging it in, leaving it unplugged, this i727 just will not power down. I do love the touchwiz recovery, and how you can select to reboot and then choose to boot into recovery. That part worked nicely and I am over all happy.
I know its late replay but I got solution!
I had same prob all i did was took toothpick stick it inside phone USB connector thing and pushed it little bit up and now it works perfectly FINE!
Yes the toothpick fix does work. Had the same problem with mine. Read about using the toothpick to fix this problem from a post back in December of last year. Don't pry up too much and break the toothpick off inside. A little twist is all it needed on mine. Noticed some dirt and grime came off on the toothpick. Maybe this helped clean it as well

First of all I would like to say I appreciate all the work that the XDA forums has been doing, and I am pleased to see that the community is as strong, if not, stronger since the last time that I have been here a couple years ago. The questions, answers, feedback and help, let alone for the Samsung Galaxy S 4G released by T-Mobile in February of 2011, is amazing. These forums have really helped people make the most out of their device, and had it not exist, this Galaxy S in my hand would have been long forgotten by Samsung, and the Gingerbread stock ROM that I was given with would be my home. It reminded me of how much I had missed messing with these android devices; nothing like jailbreaking and installing cydia on my iPhone. The experience is not the same. Anyways...
Pulling out my T959V from its box I decided it was time to finally install ICS on it after Samsung have let these great device fade away.
I installed ICS last night and stayed up searching for kernels and testing out different ROMS some slow and many faster than others and decided that Cyanogen 9 was the best looking and performance-wise ROM on the phone in my opinion. Considering that all other ROMS base it on the nightly builds extra stuff was just junk, considering this phone only has one processor. So I upgraded from Gingerbread 2.3.6 and I've tried many different kernels and everything works except WiFi. It can not even search for one network no matter how many times I press "Scan". I'd appreciate all the help I can get.
Thanks

I'd check the MD5 of the CM9 DL and make sure it's a match. I haven't heard of anyone else having that issue. Also make sure you DL the latest CM9. If the MD5 matches format system, wipe cache/dalvik and flash again. Reboot an let it sit for five minutes then try wifi.

Yeah I've checked the MD5 sums of the zip packages after download. This is so bizarre, and the CM9 is not the only ROM I've tried. I've tried about 4 or 5 of them and different kernels as well and all of them do not connect to WiFi. I have formatted system, and always wiped any trace of the prior ROM before installing. Plus, I have tried the method where I would boot to recovery and "fix permissions". No good.
I would use a heimdall one click go back to stock kj6 then flash up to cm9. Sounds like you have some bugs that will only get squashed by going back to stock. IMO I would flash bootloaders too. Just so it overwrites EVERYTHING.

Sounding more and more like a hardware issue. Wifi and bluetooth are on the same chip so if your still on stock try and turn on BT. If it turns on it might not be the chip. If it gives the same error I'd bet money on a bad chip.
This would be a good time for logcat and dmesg...

Bluetooth works fine, WiFi just wont turn on. Its not a hardware issue, and WiFi was working the same day before I flashed to ICS
Done use stock + blastoff that is a stepping stone one click for people to go back to stock then either flash another gb rom or ics rom. Wifi is broken because of the new wifi module used. I never meant for it to be used as a daily driver. Use the heimdall one click bhundven has posted in his one click thread.
@mkho30
I had the same exact Wi-Fi issue a few months ago. I tried everything you tried and what members are suggesting in this thread.
I also asked about this issue on irc (Team Acid) and was told by Bryan that ICS (if I remember correctly) doesn't support WPS button connection. I assumed it was "on my end" and not ROM related.
Bryan suggested that I reboot my router. I had done that several times before asking. I didn't even know you could log in to your router to reconfigure it so he suggested that I Google to learn.
Long story short. I googled and read allot. I reconfigured my router many different ways. I disabled my WPS button connection and reset my router many times. I changed the security every way possible. I even set up a guest network.. the ONLY way I was able to connect to my Wi-Fi network was if I disabled the security COMPLETELY.
That wasn't an option for me. I live in an apartment building and I have seen people in the halls with laptops using their neighbors Wi-Fi.
I tried everything for a couple of months and finally went back to Gingerbread last weekend.
Sorry I can't be of any help with this reply. I just wanted to share my experience and let you know that you aren't the only one that has this issue...man I miss ICS. I didn't have an issue with the battery after "I settled in" Hopefully we can find out what is going on with us.
Btw. I'm back on Gingerbread and I connect to Wi-Fi with no problems.

I tried that several times FB. During my searching I came across a thread (one of those answers sites) that gave your answer as a fix.
I REALLY did my do diligence in trying to get connected. I hadn't seen anyone else with this problem until today so I spent hours trying WPA2 and other configurations. I thought WPA2 would fix it for sure because that was what I had read so I kept trying it. It never worked for me. The only thing that did was having no encryption at all..I started to think that it was a "Black Ice Voodoo thing" lol. Remember how some users, no matter what they did, could never flash Black Ice Voodoo?
Btw the error I always got was an Authentication error.
Thanks for replying
If you're up for it and your router is supported, try OpenWRT. It really sounds like a router issue.
Posted from my SGS4G, thanks to Team Acid development
Sorry. I don't use a pc at work. I have to sneak on xda using my phone and they don't like seeing is on our phones for to long.
I forgot to mention in my reply to the OP that I DIDN'T have a problem scanning for Wi-Fi access. I could do that. I just couldn't connect without getting an Authentication Error. My phone would scan, connect, then discontent and give me the error.
I've had the exact same authentication error, scans, asks for password, tries to connect, then errors out, usually always after flashing CM9 and either a reinstall (recopying to my SDcard too) or a fix permissions have fixed it.
ALSO, this is very important. FORGET the connections in your wifi list after doing the fix permissions. IT WILL NOT connect to a saved connection. Reboot to recovery, fix permissions (don't use a tool within android), goto wifi, click on the connection and choose forget, then choose the connection again and try that.

If you're up for it and your router is supported, try OpenWRT. It really sounds like a router issue.

Thanks Jeff. I'll try it when I get home. I have a Motorola Surfboard that is less than a year old (It's a modem/router combo) so the unit is "up to date"

I will try this. I have done much of what you have stated here maybe even all of it before. But not in the order you describe.. I'd really like to go back to ICS. I had 4G on it (home) where I used to get 3G on Gingerbread. Also at home I needed Wi-Fi calling on Gingerbread but on ICS I had great reception.
@jeff. I just googled OpenWRT and I should have before I said I'll try it when I get home lol. OpenWRT might be to much for me right now.
Thank you for all your help people. I'll update you as soon as I can. I must go sailing now. It's Red Flag!
I dl'd Beans 12, and wanted to flash it, but my home PC didn't recognize my phone this morning. I went to the office, dl'd it there as well, and still, no recognition.
That's:
two different computers
two cables
heck, two different buildings.
This all worked before. They are both Win7 64 bit.
Also, after finally flashing Beans 12 (via sd card, which I had to remove to get it on the phone), still, nothing. So, I don't think it's something I removed. It's highly unlikely to be a computer/cable/port thing, as stated above.
I have KT747 and checked fast charge, that's not set. I tried with usb debug on and off. My computer DOES recognize my Archos tablet.
Any ideas?
Were the two cables the Samsung OEM cables?
Did you try re-installing the drivers?
At home, OEM Samsung cable. At work, OEM from my old Droid X.
I'll try the drivers, but on two different computers? I know I didn't un-install them.
I have this issue from time to time. My solution which works for me is un install Samsung drivets from your pc, reboot pc, install drivers, and reboot one last time. Make sure you download new drivers from Samsung site or Verizon not sure where from it's been awhile for me, but that should do the trick.

It sounds like it is a ROM issue.

I wonder about that, but it was working on Beans 10 until that day I posted, and I was thinking/hoping it was something I had uninstalled, but even with a clean install, nothing.
I once had a bad download of a ROM and couldn't transfer it. That is a little different from your situation, but have you checked the md5?
Checked MD5 before installing.
After many gyrations of installing, uninstalling, cleaining, rebooting, etc. my home PC, I saw on some board a few people with this problem, and a battery pull fixed them. Worked for me last. Just got in to work, where I touched nothing on the laptop, and it works here, too. That must have been it.
Now that I seem to have a fix, I wonder what the problem was.
