I am trying to upgrade my stock 2.2 Froyo phone to 2.3 Gingerbread through Kies, using a MacBook Pro.
I am running Mac OSx 10.6.8 and can not get my phone to be recognized by Kies Mini, despite trying every configuration of USB options.
Has anyone encountered a similar issue? I also cannot even mount my SD card anymore, even if I choose "mass storage," so perhaps my problems are rooted somewhere else?
Any help is appreciated, I have tried searching XDA as well as other forums, Google, Samsung/TMo's sites, to no avail.
TY in advance!

That is what I have tried following, with nothing going on. Finally, after several tries of going into "Kies (Firmware Update)", Kies Mini gave me an error msg that said "current connection mode is not supported by kies."
Do you use a mac?

Oh and to the first responder, I looked at everything on the page when you said that. Thanks for wasting my time. Saw nothing remotely related or helpful, except for someone with a rooted phone having trouble in "download mode," which I can't even get to. My phone is legit stock -- because I am lazy, etc.
"The device is not supported by Kies Mini."
I'm not a Mac guy, so I can't really help there. Given that it's even having issues in mass storage makes me wonder if you would have the same problem on a different Mac or a PC. Would you have the chance to try that?
I use Macs, and honestly I only used Odin on a friends PC to initially install Gingerbread, since then I've been downloading my roms and other files directly to the phone and using CWM to do everything. I'm done trying to use my Mac with this phone since Samsung doesn't support isync as they should.
I'm just waiting for the devs here to get their new roms up before upgrading to the official build.

Yeah ok well thank you for being so helpful then. Ended up having to use an old XP computer at a friend's. It took forever, but I have gingerbread now. I am running stock with Screen Filter set at about 40% most of the time, and I am getting INSANE battery. Like I have not used it too much at work but I would usually have about 40% right now, maybe lower because I have been checking it periodically/texting.
I am 90% at 3 p.m... 7 hours after I took it off of the charger... Is this what I should have been getting all along? Did I have a virus or just a really ****ty battery hogging app? My phone used to always say it was the screen using all of the battery power.
Or is my phone calculating more battery than it really has?
Glad you got it working! Enjoy the crazy battery life. How fast it goes down really depends on usage per person but I believe most people reported better battery on GB vs. Froyo.
I tend to turn off my wifi when not in use, GPS is always off, display brightness is at the minimum, etc - basic things one can do to help the battery life. I've not attempted the under-volting or anything others have used to get even more life from the battery.

Hi All,
I have a mt4g which is rooted with S=Off. I switch between the Sense launcher and Launcher Pro Plus. Usual apps on the phone, not too many.
For last week or so, I have been seeing that sometimes the phone gets really really laggy and Norton Util tells me that the CPU is 100%.
Also, I think most of the times, when this happens, I see a Sync icon up top. I do not sync a lot, just 2 GMail Inboxes and weather (every 6 hours). But I do see that Sync icon most of the times when this lagging happens.
I have tried removing apps, but this still seems to be a problem. I have see somewhere that turning the USB debugging to ON has helped many, but did not work for me.
I tried CM7 RC1 when it was out, but didnt like it (stock camera etc...) and I restored back to my stock ROM. Could this have done something?
Thanks
Ravneet
On your home screen hit menu key. Go to settings. Select accounts and sync. See what all is listed there. Chances are something with sense is constantly syncing.
Disable everything from syncing. See if the problem goes away. If so turn on one thing at a time until you find the culprit.
Hope that puts you in the right direction.

Have tried that. When I go there nothing is synching. Strange.
I have tried to remove all accounts from synch but still see the problem.
Went into recovery and wiped the cache about a hour ago. So far so good. Hope it stays this way.

I've noticed that there are apps that as soon as i download them, and open them that my cpu will go to 100% until I reboot my phone. System panel is a good app that isn't too obtrusive that will tell you exactly what app is doing what.
Have you installed anything new lately?
I uninstalled everything new.
Moreover I think every time this happens the battery is less than 30%. Maybe in low battery profile there are some apps which are over utilizing the CPU.

There's a couple threads like this. The stock Rom seems to have issues running rooted. Best bet would be to flash a different rom

@NicGraner: Why would the stock ROM have problems with being rooted?
I am still having this problem. Uninstalled everything that is not important.
The phone just becomes unusable and I have to reboot. Un-installed Watchdog Lite too, as I thought since it is monitoring, it is taking up some CPU in background too.
No widgets on the home screens.
I guess I am gonna do a full refresh using the PDxxx.zip and go back to stock stock and then see what happens. not sure if I will lose my root once I do that.
Try the royal glacier rom it's solid stable and the sh!t
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/stop-t-mobile-from-being-bought-by-att/.......
I returned 5 phones for this exact problem, then I finally got one where the usb debugging trick actually worked. Before that I was just using OSmonitor from the market to see when I was hitting 100% then I would have to yank the battery as that was the only thing that would make it stop.
When I got this new phone I installed os monitor and waited for it to happen again, which it did, then I turned on usb debugging and watched my cpu usage graph drop to 0%. SUCCESS! Unfortunately since this was my 6th phone this solution seems to be the exception rather than the rule.
I did a lot of poking around on google trying to fix this and found a lot of people with different results. Try disabling t mobile sync and go to the myaccount app in the market and uninstall the updates. If that doesn't work try getting a new sim card and sd card, or just keep returning phones until t mobile offers to send you a g2x...
Also if you search around you'll see that this isn't just a problem with the mt4g. I found multiple threads where this happens on the nexus one, and several galaxy s phones. I really hope google is aware of this.

@johnsmith970: Thanks for the info. I will try calling TMO tonight and see what they say.
I am really bugged by this now. The phone gets totally unusable once this happens.
They will say to do a factory reset. Every tech support person I talked to told me to do that. This didn't solve the problem for me at all. It still exhibited the same symptoms on a fresh reset and not even signed in to google.
I would advise calling htc support just to let them know you are having this problem. Sending back a half a dozen phones per customer can't be good for anyones wallet or their peace of mind.

I have no idea why the stock rom doesn't like being rooted it's just what's been said and the solution which is most widely given (and mostly worked unless theres an underlying problem) is to flash a custom rom.
OK! I have more information for anyone interested.
I am tracking processes now in OS Monitor app from Market.
Most of the times it is the bluetooth daemon (bluetoothd) that goes bonkers. I was connected to my GPS in my car while driving, and when I came out of the car...the bluetoothd is going bonkers...looks like it may be trying to 'find' the device it was connected to. At the same time logcat2 process is also utilizing 30+% of the CPU.
I turned off Bluetooth and both the processes went away
So let me see if this sticks for couple of days.
Thanks

Hi to all this morning,
I spoke to the local AT&T manager about my phone. The lock screen numbers and letters are "burned" on to my screen. Every time I go to a "light backround, I can see the month, time and "phone locked". The manager told me to call AT&T service. I called the 800 number and was told I have to do a "hard reset" on my phone for the warranty procedure. I have an "unlocked", "rooted" phone. Will a hard reset unroot and lock my phone?
Do I have to "unroot" and "lock" my phone before calling them back?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Jim
Before u return the phone to store, I would strongly recommend restoring to how it was when you got it (stock).

I assume that you are using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251 one.
I had to use this a whole bunch of times when I just started flashing and though it worked really well the first time after that it started to not work as well. Switch your USB ports that you plug your phone into. This will make it show up in a different are other than just COMM 9. If you cannot get it to work in any USB try a different computer, leave it sitting there for a long time. I don't think that it really had anything to do with my eventual sucess but after just leaving the battery out and the cord plugged into nothing made it work. Just telling you my experience. I hope that you are able to figure out what is wrong and flash back to stock before your screen gets any worse!
So you tried to odin back to stock and it doesn't work?

No problem. Glad that I could help. And do push the issue. Right to the manager if they still won't take it. Or you could try calling them and eventually you will find one rep who is willing to push it through. Either they will be dumb and don't know what they are doing or they will know where you are coming from and help get it returned. If not, and you are still under warranty you might be able to send it back to Samsung and see what they will do about it. Good luck!
i believe if its under 30 days they take it back on the spot and exchange it for you.. if not they might ask you if you have insurance on you phone and send it out to a authorized ATT repair store... just my expierience...
So sometime over the last few months with all the flashes that I've done, I lost actual 4g (4+Mbps) and appear to only have 3g or edge possibly now at less than 100Kbps when I do speed tests. I'm also having several other problems that I'm sure could be resolved by flashing back to stock with odin or heimdall, but I have windows 8 which doesn't like to allow drivers for the Infuse... I tried linux, couldn't get anything to work. I don't have any computers with windows 7 available to me.
Ideas?

Wind 8 doesn't allow you to install sammy drivers?
As far the 4g...that to me was just for looks, didn't really get anywhere near 4g.
but with it be odin or one clicked, does wind 8 have a compatibly mode, I know in wind 7 you can right click on an exe file and change the compatibility to lower windows...I ask this to see if you can install the sammy drivers, but odd that you cant install them.
Now heimdall has its own usb type drivers and your saying that wont install either.
are putting the phone in download mod to see if driver are there...for both odin and one click?

You should be able to use heimdal on linux...just make sure you have java (I used the one from the ubuntu software store thingy...it was called openjdk or something like that)
For the longest time it would always prompt me to update heimdal but I would always choose no. Heimdal would never recognize my device until one day I chose yes on the update prompt...so if you try again on linux and you get an update prompt try updating it...see if that helps

Also, it might be worth checking your apn settings. I have on a couple of occasions entered them incorrectly and saw a considerable decrease in download speeds.

I'm afraid to try new modems anymore because ever since I installed CM7 any modem I flash completely messes up either wifi or all connections (including just the cell tower connection). I had good luck with UCLK2 so I might try that again.
Yeah I tried KL2 again and it just completely destroyed all connectivity. I don't know what my phone's problem is.

Nope. They used to work and help, but since I installed CM7(like half a year ago, and stopped using it a month later) all they do is mess my phone up. Which is weird because I've used odin back to stock several times, which should make it like it just came from the factory and destroy anything causing issues.
Should I call AT&T or something and see if it's a problem with them?
In case you haven't seen this yet here is the link.
Now if I understand this correctly, I have to be stock gingerbread and not rooted in order to get this working on our device? I am currently on ICS Codename Android and I receive the error message "Firmware is not compatible". Is there perhaps anyone on gingerbread that would like to give it try and see if it works for them rooted?
If I've heard right you can use super su to turn root off/on
That doesn't change much for me being on ICS haha
I'm on barebones and will try this out later today.
Ok lol it works very well on barebones with root.
You can go back and forth either way ....controlling the computer or just watch or even mess with someone on your computer...and vice versa....control the phone from the computer...
I read and watched the video, it says it works on ROMs that uses TouchWiz mainly... or stock-ish. So my guess is that it works on ICBINB, Barebones and RemICS? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
@shortbus, can you send texts from Team Viewer and place calls? That would be a good thing.
I will try it later, I might go back to GB. Need battery life. Have to charge like 3 times per day now.
I haven't tried...I noticed that on team viewer it say $0.05 per minute so i wasn't goin there.
Btw if you watch the video the Guy states it works on devices with gb or higher so it should work with ics.
Tried it on CM9 and controlled my Windows 7 laptop from my phone. It worked. And it's free for non-commercial use.

Yeah I know the standard TeamViewer app works fine with any ROM for our phone, the app we are talking about in particular is for controlling your phone from your computer.
The one for controlling the phone from the computer does work with root custom gb roms but I find it laggy as hell....almost to the point of it being worthless.

I have been experiencing an issue with my phone freezing once each day (usually in the late evening, or in the morning if the preceding evening caused no problems) so I'd like to update the operating system. When I connect my phone to Kies via USB, Kies whines that there is a connection error, despite showing my SGH-1727 is connected. I can connect to Kies air with little to no problem and have honestly rarely connected to the Kies program I downloaded from the website. I updated Kies yesterday and actually uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times to no avail. I've also run the connection troubleshooting option under "Tools".
Can anyone help? I'm not too technologically inclined when it comes to cell phones so please explain things to me as if I'm your grandmother

Forget what you did and root then install ROM like CM10/AOKP/SlimBean/MIUI...
The stock update is really crappy.
It's time to learn the real things.
Follow this step by step guide and DON'T SKIP any step.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773659
Again, DON'T SKIP a single step.
Read it completly before doing anything, 2-3 times if needed to fully understand!!
Don't do it if you still not confident after reading.
If need more info, search search search. Everything IS on the forum (often multiple time) on how you device works.
Remember READ ALL the guidet!!
Also, is you srew up, we cannot be take for responsible for it.
But everything should go fine if you follow EXACTLY the guide.
Finaly, don't forget to hit thanks on the vincom's guide.
