Does anyone know if the A700 is Gorilla Glass or not?
I normally always feel people are very harsh to new comers. But even I am shaking my head at why you didn't go down 3 threads and find where I asked this several days ago...

Wow I am an idiot :-( I didn't even see that. I am truly blind my fault close thread please....
No worries mate, but in the long run it'll save us a lot of duplication etc.
Thanks for being cool about it :good:

See the thing is I have been thinking about stylus development a lot lately. The Stylus on my Wizard was fine for the first few months but started to come lose eventually. Now with my new Hermes its all nice and Toight again but I almost feel guilty when I pull it out to use it.
THEN it hit me
Why not go to one of those fancy nail shops and ask the kind lady there to give me a fake nail on my index finger, but shape the tip just like a stylus! Now I know what you are thinking "Dam thats clever, Why didn't I think of that"
Just think you will always have a stylus at hand and it will be much easier to use than any other.
You will of course need to take care when picking your nose as to avoid doing some serious harm to yourself
The thing is people will think your a fruit cake when you try and explain why you have a pointy bit on the end of your finger, but if there are thousands of XDA users who all have "little pointy bits" on the end of the fingers I won't feel so strange.
Hmmm maybe those people are right huh!

or you could have just bought something like this

Would save you the humiliation of telling your friends you have to go get your nails done
I hope your signficant other doesnt mind that you are now high maintenance..... lol
Yes... and could be a problem picking your nose... and wiping your a**.
and ppl will suspect that the nail is for sniffing drugs
Hey, you're not weird .... I was thinking about this some time ago, especially if you use your pda in your car. In the Germany, you'r not allowed to kepp it in your hands while driving.
My idea was some kind of glove or something you can stick on your finger, like accountants use for sorting paper. If you play guitar, you'll know that there's an item especially for fingerpicking (you wear it like a ring) ... maybe this will do if you find one made of plastic, cause i only know them made of steel, waht definitly will kill your screen.
Regards,
Some one did just that quite a while ago, IIRC there were photos posted at the same time either BA or Uni section - can't find it now though.
Only problem is you can't opperate the reset with your fingernail, and your other half might have something to say about it! - Mike

Anyone else already getting lint accumulation and know of a good way to get it out?

Really? Come on. Use your common sense.
Have you considered compressed air? It's commonly the most popular way to get dust off of electronics... I always have a can or two for clearing out the dust in my computers or occasionally a laptop if i take one apart (no reason not to clean at the same time).
Hope that helps.
you should prob. clean your pockets out too while your at it lol
Vacuum it out. :]

I've always been more of a book smart kind of guy. Not so much street smart/common sense smart, lol.
And its not a ton of lint, just a couple little pieces stuck in the grill. I'm going to try some double sided tape.

Wouldn't regular tape work? You weren't kidding when you said you didn't have common sense.
I haven't noticed this problem though.
Wow! I am shocked by how rude everyone is about a simple question.
So much for turning to the community for answers these days.... if you ask something "stupid" or "obvious" you get grilled for it.
It used to be that people either said something helpful or moved along if they had nothing to contribute to the thread. Now everyone has their little online egos and feels like putting someone down makes them look like a hardass.
My pockets are clean and I have also noticed dust specs in the rear speaker (under kick stand). Go ahead... crucify me now!
Agreed. The way these things work is everyone working together to help each other out, anybody from devs to newbies. We all have our strong points, so you can share your knowledge, or just do your self a favor and move on. Let me know what works best for you!
P.S my pockets are clean too

You are 100% right. I don't know what it is about this forum section but the N1 area was nothing like this. There are a few really rude people in this area and imo mods may have to start cracking down. I've questioned my Thunderbolt purchase several times just based on the other people who have bought it...not sure I want to be a member of this group.
I got my tab back from RMA (doa) they replaced the screen and there is now a speck between the screen and glass... I can live with the light bleed but this speck is frikin annoying Its not a dead pixel with the device off it is clearly seen under the glass... HELP i am sooo annoyed and I dont want to rma again! How do you take this thing apart?
Thanks!
You don't want to risk taking the thing apart. If you **** it up it's your fault and Asus will NOT give you free warranty service after the fact.
If you can't live with it you have to call Asus and tell them you want them to fix this. They'll probably tell you to prove that they did this by taking a picture of something that's impossible to take a picture of.
Good luck. Another casualty of ****ty Asus QC and an even ****tier RMA service.

Why do you **** on every thread that has anything to do with with Asus support or QC of these devices?
If you hate the thing, sell it and buy something you like.

mmmmmk I rooted so I don't care about warranty... I am pretty good at this stuff... if not I know a guy that is a freakin meticulous electronical surgeon.... he made me new insides of the left button on my g9x mouse when the copper wore out.. if I mess it up he'll fix it. Best part hes fam so he does it for free ;D
Would just like a rough idea before I tear into it.

No. (LOL)
I don't hate the TF, I do hate the way service is handled. Your whole post and your line of reasoning is so ****ing flawed it makes me embarassed just to see how embarassing you are. A case of serious contact embarassment. I should sell the TF and I must hate it because I hate how Asus runs things and I hate their QC? Are you stupid or just deficient?
By the way, ****ting on threads would be like what you're doing, making a moronic post that doesn't even begin to answer the OP on a thread, instead you sidetrack the whole discussion. Great job you selfish asshole. I don't "**** on" threads, I tell it like it is. I don't lie about the RMA process or QC, it's the truth (in less than flattering terms) and it's relevant to the OP. Next time you want to send me a love letter go do it by PM instead of hijacking another persons thread.

You can unroot it and "preserve" that warranty. This isn't really a good reason to go ahead and rip through it.

Sounds good until you miss a clip and break it. It doesn't really matter how good you or your fam is at doing this. There's a chance for anything to break especially when you're dealing with a particular device you haven't had any experience disassembling before.
Would just like a rough idea before I tear into it.

There was a disassembly thread somewhere here that shows a minor teardown. Do a google search for it. Although I'm not sure it goes as far as the screen and glass. In addition you have no way to guarantee that you won't introduce more dust since I doubt you own a clean room. I highly advise you contact Asus first, you don't want to do this. There are too many risks that outweigh removing a stupid fleck from between the screen and glass. You'll end up breaking clips that hold the back to the bezel and then you finish up the job, fire the unit up and FUUUUUUUUUUU there are eight huge pieces of dust under the screen. Oops.
My I noticed a spec of dust last night on my TF and concur that its driving me crazy! Would asus' warranty cover something like this?

Xoom for $400
figured I would post one last update and fix for anyone else affected. I (accidentally) dropped it and it went away as well as the sd card heating up issue. So if anyone else has any issues with this tablet try smacking it into the floor (Hard wood is preferred but it should also work with tile)

Noticed this when I looked at tablet from angle anyone else seen anything like this. Its under glass and can't be cleaned.

Nope, never seen this before -- I do have some "fluid-like" sheen when ushing on the screen with some force (especially on lighter backgrounds), but that can only be seen with the unit turned on.
Off-topic: I would like to request you to not double-post. It is generally frowned upon -- not only because it clutters the forum but since it splits up the answers to your question in two different places. That makes it harder to see what has been taken up and what is let to b answered and/or amended. Just ask once, and if we know the answer or can help out in some other fashion, we'll get in here. Thanks.

that definitely looks like a warranty covered issue, i'd guess that there's a bad adhesive seal between the screen layers.

It looks like mold. :S I thought they used clear (that is, transparant and colorless) glues for that?
I have this on occasion, but always on the outside of my screen. Never on the inside.
If it's on the inside, send it back.

White residue on the outside and not the inside: not chlamydia. You'll be fine with a simple scrub-down.
Sorry, I'm on shift in the hospital, couldn't withstand the opportunity. I'll scurry off now.

Buy only the glass and change it yourself?
How difficult is this? Is there a tutorial link. I have tremors and spasticity in hands from spinal disease but I may give it a try if double. Thanks for the response. Any other thoughts are welcomed and appreciated

does your screen cracked severely or small crack only? if small, you could go for glass screen protector only for $9 just to hold the glass stable with pressure spread evenly. if it hinder your usage i suggest replacing would be an option because note 8 is still a great device and i use it a lot in my study so for me repairing it would be a great investment. if you thought about changing it yourself, its not that hard but still need a stable hand but still very moderate for people with no experience. Just think about it, buying a new tablet is a waste unless you get tablet that is more powerful than note 8.
edit: Im sorry for your hand, i hope you get better soon
edit again: you might want to consider replacing it sooner, with a crack, unwanted things can get through the crack and can damage the internal if you're not careful
