Hi
I have a captivate now.and I can upgrade to a play or arc at a very good price
Should I do it? And which one?
Thanks!

I think the xperia play is a great concept, poorly executed. Eventually if they start to get games, having dedicated buttons for playing games would be awesome.
I am almost ready for upgrade, I'm holding out for SGS II. That's the next android powerhouse.
At this point if you get anything that isn't dual-core you are getting last Gen tech.

not much difference. depends on your priorities. samsung has more media capabilities out of the box. als has a great headphone amp coupled with voodoo sound the captivate is a great portable music player.
the arc has hdmi and is about the thinnest phone i have seen advertised anywhere. it's only about 8.5 mm. also it has a bigger screen and is super lcd so it is a pretty good picture. amoled might have more brilliant colors but really a matter of preference. also has a camera flash.
as far as power and benchmarks they are very close powervr sgx540 gpu in the captivate beats the adreno 205 gpu by a enough to note but not enough to base a decision off of. the quallcom chip in the arc has a better fpu and gets great linpack scores. i think the cappy beats the arc overall if it gets loaded with gingerbread but we are not talking huge margins here.
really unless there is a need for a feature on the play or the arc id wait for a better phone that catches your eye. you may prefer the fact that the arc has gingerbread and th ecappy need it to be ported. you may want hdmi conectivity. really i cant tell you one is definatively better than the other. you will have to decide for your self.
I would get the Arc if you can. The play thing doesn't look too special to me. Unless you plan to play a lot of games on your phone.
I've really not heard many good things about the Play. I would consider it a bit of a downgrade from the Captivate.
I've heard some better things about the Arc, but I would wait until the SGSII to come to your location. Looks amazing!
I ended up getting the Arc and traded it to my GF for her iPhone 4 and sell it. Keeping the Captivate for a while. I may still end up getting the SGS2, but right now because the arc is so heavily discounted for me to renew my contract, it makes sense for me to do that. At least I know there's still a lot of hype for the iPhone 4 and can sell it very easily.
I've read many reviews of people who say that the Atrix 2 is "slightly laggy." I'm sure that after ICS comes out which will enable hardware graphical acceleration, that lag will be pretty much gone. The phone will be much smoother with ICS. What do you guys think?
What lag? o.o My phone hasn't stuttered at all even in games.

ICS performance on the Galaxy Nexus should be an excellent indication of how it will run on the Atrix 2, as its chipset is the same one used in the Galaxy Nexus, except for lower clock speed. GPU performance between the two is expected to be quite close even though the Atrix 2's SGX 540 has an 84 MHZ disadvantage because it doesn't have to render at higher resolution.
I agree with Kori, my phone has 0 lag even when downloading multiple apps and constant texting as well as syncing

Somebodys lying to you then cause my A2 doesnt lag at all

It is funny that A2 has such a nice review from everyone, but not many peoples are actually getting it.
+1. For $99 its an unbelievable steal as far as what you get for your money.

I think thats due to a few reasons
1. It came on the coattails of the iP4
2. It got no marketing push and isnt even avail. at all AT&T stores
3. It has just a few upgrades over the OG Atrix
4. It came just before two overhyped devices, the RAZR and Nexus
I think the combination of people not knowing about it, the timing of its release and the release of two heavily marketed devices has paralyzed the market for the A2.....and a locked bootloader doesnt help at all.
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
There really isn't much lag except with some ****ty apps that are badly coded/not optimized yet. Really though, the Atrix 2 runs quite well.
Glad to hear that you guys have no lag on your A2s. I'm just repeating what I read. Some have reported it as laggy compared to the GS2.
For the price ($50 on Amazon), this phone is a steal. I'll be getting it next month. Really looking forward to ICS!
No lag here, smooth as silk compared to other Android phones and especially my OG Atrix.
Honestly, I don't know what all the lag statements are about. I guess if I switched screens at a rapid pace continually it might lag once but who uses their phone like that?
I don't see much lag at all...there is an occasional slight stutter, but every android phone does that at some point.
Everyone with a GS2 just wants to talk smack on the Atrix 2, bro. I tried the GS2 and I'm glad I made the decision to go with the Atrix 2.
I think the GS2 is a nice device but I just didnt think it was $150 better than the Atrix 2
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
Also i think another advantage vs GS2 is that the omap 4 series cpu are using duel channel memory controller. I think this is one of the reason that A2 doesn't have lag issue.
If you had the choice between the SGS 1 and the Incredible S, what would you pick and why?
The incredible has a better cpu the galaxy s has a better gpu. In day to day use they will be around the same performance, it just comes down to wether you like sense or touchwiz and which hardware you like more. I'd go for the incredible because the cpu is a lot more overclockable and the build quality is better in my opinion.
Not a simole answer
Depends. I hate sense a lot more than touchwiz so the sgs is better for me in that regard. People say HTC has better build quality but I prefer the plastic cases Samsung use as they are lighter and actually protect the phone more if dropped. I also think the sgs has a nicer screen. HTC however it seems the sgs won't officially get ICS, not sure about the incredible s.
I would get the sgs of the two but in reality I wouldn't get either now. I would buy either the galaxy nexus or sgs2 if I wanted something cheaper.
sgs by far
I'd have 2 go with the galaxy s,even though the incredible s might have a better CPU,the 1 in the galaxy s is still fast enough and because the CPU is better,be graphics and quality r very high and allow u 2 play games like modern combat 3 and real racing 2 which require very high GPUs,Ive been using a galaxy s 4 about 3 or 4 months and this phone has impreesed me a lot
Incredible s is better device but bootloader is locked and better roms , kernels, support for galaxy s .

when sgs has a lot of better things than incredible s I don't understand why sgs so very lag and sluggish both a browser and all of transitions when I use my girlfriends aha eventhogh I installed Cm7, darky ROM and so on. It is slower than my stock ROM on inspire 4g.
PS even I try voodoo to convert partition file type but nothing to improve speed the best case I found it fast for one week after that it return to sluggish as I used to.

both of them are good phones
but i like p990 more
If you don't mind the software(Sense vs touchwiz), I'd say go with the Incredible S, Because:
CPU Wise : the MSM8250 is better more overclockable and more efficient than the Hummingbird
GPU: in terms of 3D the SGX540 might tops the Adreno 205 but the Adreno has better 2D performance, and better efficiency but with either you can't go wrong
Built quality, being an HTC the Incredible S is a better quality product than the SGSI, better material used and industrial feel (but if you are someone that cares about weight and don't mind the plastic the SGS might better for you)
Screen, being a recent generation SLCD with full RGB I'd say the screen on the Incredible is better, but again if you are someone that don't mind the visible Pentil and like vibrant colors over realistic ones the SGS screen would be better for you
Ram the IS has 768mb vs the 512mb on the SGSI
And deal breaker for me, is that the IS is a newer device than the SGSI there is almost a year difference between both device, despite the IS being a middle end device it meens it will get more support than the SGSI it is sad because some people just brought new variants of the SGSI that just came out some month ago and samsung already said they are coming with one last update for the SGSI (because people got mad ) and it will be a gingerbread skined with some ICS elements on top, where as the IS might get the ICS, in fact, IS got a recent update to 2.3.5 + sense 3.0 which is the latest software used on HTC devices (appart the decices that came with sense 3.5)
Edit: I forgot to mention that the SGSI had some issues in it debut, if you are someone that relies on A-GPS on your phone you'd better not get any closer to the SGSI
Incredible s!!!!!!

Incredible S win with Sense!
Definitely would have to agree with the Incredible S, just knowing it's a little more matured than a SGSI.
Just get a Galaxy S2 and be done with it! ATT's got refurbs now for $9.99, you really cant beat that..
Galaxy s is better because it has better support for developers

I am currently using T-Mobile G2X.
I am planning to jump ship to different phone.
My choice are HTC SENSATION and Samsung Galaxy R.
Can anybody point me to some benchmark that compares g2x with GB and sensation?
most of the comparisons done so far only with froyo g2x and GB sensation and sensation wins.
Moreover do you people find the battery capacity reasonable?
For dual core, 4.3" qhd screen having phone, isn't 1520 mah battery too tiny?

nvidia tegra 2 is way faster than HTC sensation's processor in terms of benchmark result.
Moreover HTC sensation is the slowest dual core android mobile phone in terns of benchmark results .
But I have jumpshipped to it anyway.

That is without Hardware acceleration and stock tests.
I am referring the phonedog comparison of G2X and sensation.
In which they ran 3d benchmark against g2x running 2.2 and sensation runnning 2.3
Sensation got a score of 1900 and g2x got a score of 2300, if hardware acceleration may not be taken into account then it wont be for g2x also no?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
The benchmarks don't take into consideration dual cores and the fact that the Sensation is running Asynchronous cores.

I think that Sensation shows bad benchmark results because of that crap heavy Sense ui. Qualcomm's s3 processor is quite powerful.

And benchmarks don't mean you-know-what.
Slowest dual core? lolno.
Ive only been here a couple of months. Ive gathered quite a bit reading all these forums. Ive read up on stuff like these elsewhere. Ive also played around with a LOT of phones. And by playing around I dont mean the 15 mins in a shop opening apps and checking camera of different phones before you buy them. My friends have pretty good phones (O2X, GS2, GS, Desire HD, O3D, Xperia arc, neo etc)
Ive done almost everything there is to do on those phones and always I end up glad I have my sensation. Looks - hands down winner. Sexiest phone ever, tied with the arc imo. Its no slouch. Benchmarks? I get **** high scores on custom ROMS. After I proved it, I uninstalled the apps from my phone cos they meant nothing. People are always gonna claim their phone is better and cos an app gave them a coloured bar with a nice big number, its way faster. Trust me, you're gonna be glad you got a senny. (Unless its defective of course) S2 feels like crap, runs at the same speed mine does if not seemingly slower and the screen is tough to work with. (SAMOLED? lol not as cool as it claims to be) and its less responsive than mine. Im happier with my sensation than I would have been with any other phone in almost EVERY aspect. The xperia Live's speaker volume has me a bit jealous but thats about it. I use earphones anyway. G2X feels awful. I cant work with it. Ever. And the camera on the senny blows the others outta the water. With the crap HTC drivers and the asynchronous system, the senny is bloody amazing and can easily easily keep up with any phone and beat the crap out of most. Wait till ICS. Proper ICS.
Ok end of rant. If anyone says your phone is the slowest dual core - laugh. Then walk away
Oh and all the websites that review phones.. I relied on them quite a bit myself. Trusted the pics of benchmarks they put up and read how they reviewed phones and took tiny little things like the 2MP FFC on the S2 and worshipped it, etc etc. 90% of those sites have no idea what theyre talking about. Any phone with the bigger MHz clock speed on the box is faster. .7MP more FFC is holyshishkebab. phone is .3mm slimmer! OH MY GOD! Thats the basic idea. Dont trust that. Do your own research.
Now - actual end of rant.
Thanks for your rant, as even I am now owning a sensation too.
I am an avid fan of Htc sense ui,
I didn't know any other strength of HTC sensation before reading your post.
Eventhough g2x is more slimmer than sensation, in look wise sensation is class apart from any android Mobile phone and can be comparable only with Sony Ericsson xperia arc and iPhone

Buy Samsung Galaxy S2. It will be the best choice for gaming as mostly all games support it. Modern Combat 3 runs like a beast on it.
Dont buy Xperia Play...! It only has 512MB Ram, 1.2Ghz single core cpu and an old Gpu which is not good to run latest games like Nova 3, etc...
And btw game developers have stopped optimising games for XperiaPlay.
So S2 is the best choice for your budget.
And 1 top reason for buying Galaxy S2 : Galaxy S3 has the same Mali-400 GPU which means all games in the future which will support S3 will also support S2...!!!

Yes..galaxy S Advance is also a good choice but its price is only around 50$ less than S2. S2 comes with a 8mp cam while as S Advance has 5.0mp...and S2 scores more in benchmark results...GPU only plays a small role in running games..CPU and RAM does the trick..So i think u should wait a little bit and save some enough money to buy S2. You will never reget the wait once you get it.

As i said i cant go with the original s2 because its not available here.
Now i have a galaxy ace which has an armv6 proc. and its no more supported not in games or any other app. Now the main problem is i can live very well with my galaxy ace if i have to wait for a new generation of proc. Aka cortex-a15 or something like that.

I bought my S2 from Germany too, and it's not G. You just have to look for one.
Maybe you should look for one used?
Sensation is a little bit cheaper, but its GPU is nothing compared to S2's.

Then maybe you should buy Sony Xperia Arc S. Price is too less for its features which the phone has.
It costs 200$ less than Galaxy S2. So it will be a good choice. It scores nearly the same in benchmark results like S2. Morever Many games are also supported.

Ok am not gonna pimp you my current phone or pimp you the fantasy phone i would like to buy if i could myself.
What am gonna suggest is the criteria for your choice of phone, and one other utterly vital issue if your main concern is gaming.
1:
Get a phone that is know to work with sixaxis
If your unaware what it is it is a completely awesome app that allows dualshock PS3 sticks to be used as controllers for Android devices via bluetooth, its well developed and ultra stable, best updated regularly (but not recently).Has many features that make it THE BEST choice for a decent controller for Android gaming.
These include full button config, touch control emulation, apparently Earl the dev is working on accelerometer emulation too. Nothing else on the market or that is proposed yet covers the options list of sixaxis.
It completely TRANSFORMS the experience of playing games like MC3, or ShadowGun, N.O.V.A., etc. But it is just as awesome for racing games, arcade games, emulators, etc, any gaming (that's until its implemented) that's not accelerometer dependent.
Oh yeah it easily works out as the cheapest Android controller solution too
2:
Gaming will HAMMER your battery, it will beat it down like a red headed step child, then beat it to a pulp as it lays on the ground, then round it off by violating any moist orifices your battery may have. Gaming will keep doing this to your battery without any shred of empathy, guilt, or remorse.
So make sure that the phone you get either has a good battery life or one with plenty of high capacity 3rd party batteries to choose from.
The ideal would be a phone with both characteristics. Buy a few spare batteries 3+ unless you don't mind being caught short of battery when out and about.
Also remember the faster the CPU and the more cores the faster your battery will get flensed down to low power warning. Not encouraging you to get a low end CPU just reminding you.
Everyone gets all school girl excited about quads, but the current generation of duals are more than enough to run current games with ease.
I own an old HTC Desire Z 800mhz stock CPU i usually OC it to 1.1 -1.3GHz when gaming but many games don't even need this boost.
As i stated am not suggesting a low end CPU but guys get over focused on the fastest they can get ........ often its an exercise in Geek willy waving ...... and is often just as purposeful
3:
Screen size, obviously you do not want a 3" screen to play games, my approach is biggest you can get when taking all other features into account.
4:
Roms choice many custom Roms usually the more stripped and optimised ones like CM, AOKP, or Miui often give better gaming performance than a whole slew of other Roms.
5:
Maybe with your budget you should consider going 2nd hand. If done carefully its nowhere near as fraught with risk and danger as many seem
to think. Its probably THE best way to guarantee HUGE bang for the bucks spent.
Hope this helps bruv

First thanks for your detailed post.
Second i dont want a 2nd hand phone (bad experiences) and maybe im going to sell my ace so i can maybe buy a s2:victory:
the ace costs now around 160Euro (new), what do you think i will get for it if im going to sell it. It has no scratches only some micro at the chrome case and the chrome is at the bottom a little bit decomposed. but thats not a big thing. AND i have rest warranty.
Bad news for me.
I searched for the original s2 here in germany but the only thing i found was that there is no s2s whitout the g anymore:screwy:
I also checked for the adreno 320 aka s4 pro. Its very fast i surely very good for gaming but the first devices will be released to the end of this year

What do you guys think about the galaxy ace2 or s advanced both have the mali 400 gpu (the same like s2????) both would be in my budget and have a dual core proc.

Should be good, but are you bothered with the screen size?
Anything with dual core and decent graphic are still up to par with today's modern games such as nova 3, but if you really into gaming i suggest you to get a phone with bigger screen size because it's what matters they most.. e.g galaxy nexus?
