The A510 and A700 have the same dimensions.
I cannot confirm, but I believe the A500 and A510/700 have different dimensions.
My A700 just showed up and I bought a case which is listed as being compatible with both the A510 & A700, and it fits just fine.
I bought stuff for the A510 (much wider selection on eBay), so I bloody hope so! :fingers-crossed:
I'll be sure to confirm here when my tablet arrives. Pre-ordered from the US and my buddy already has it, so shouldn't be too long!
no, A500 is absolutly not the same as A700
However A700 is the same as A510
yes a510 = a700
As far as I remember from numerous threads/posts during release of the tabs from a german forum, the cases for the A500 series are ok for the A51x/A70x in terms of proportion (not exact the same but not far away). But some cases will give you access to the external ports (headjack, micro-hdmi ...), the buttons and the (!) speakers and these are different. If you just need an encasement, A50x ones should be fine otherwise you should buy the ones designed for the new series.
One more time : absolutly not.
I got a500 i got a700 i got slim A500 case, you aware that there are slim cases along the cases ?
You didn't say much about fitting in your first post here . And I also didn't say they fit in every A500 case  but there are a few out there that are ok for A51x/A70x. But why should one buy a A500 case if he is going to get a new one?

With no release date in sight for the release here in the US, will you just give in and get the Acer? The specs are pretty much for the most part identical but you'll have to shell out $50 more @ $449. Good thing is that you'll have a tablet real soon. One thing I can think off that will slow my purchase of the acer is the development and support for the tablet by devs. Will devs really buy it and provide roms and tweaks for it?
Assuming Amazon, who takes anything back within 30 days, carries the Acer and there are no release date updates from Asus by then, I'll probably pick it up as a temporary solution.
I wouldn't count anybody out at this point. The Transformer looks awesome if it comes out with all the goodies for $399, but there's a lot of speculation on that point.
A few things I DO like about the Acer is:
Full size USB port
1080p HDMI output
Dolby Mobile sound (supposed to be the best sounding tablet...I dunno).
I'm hoping Asus gets it's crap together and gives us a date tomorrow with preorders via Amazon.

I agree. I might just end up giving the Iconia a chance but first I'd like to play with a unit. IMHO the Transformer looks way nicer and the dock just adds the icing to the cake but Asus, when's the party??? If the release date isn't released in a week and I like the Iconia then Acer will get my money.
Actually it's Best Buy that has the pre-order and I think they have a 14 day return policy. So at least you can use it for 14 days then return it.
I have stated a few times that I will at least heavily consider it. If I find out that the tablet had gorilla glass after all, it would be almost certain.
Gorilla Glass and IPS display. Now part of the must-haves for me.

I was thinking about the iconia, mostly because i like the brushed aluminum and the USB port
I hope best buy has a working display model when they release it so i can see how it is in person
I am still fond of getting the transformer though, i also think there is going to be more community development on it then the Acer which makes me want the transformer.

I'm guessing 399 is too low for it though, more like 450
I think I'm going to hold out. Just watched the video review here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039473) and it looks like its worth waiting for a little bit longer.
Part of the spec list of the Transformer you mean; correct? From what I've read the Acer does not have IPS only a 160degree viewing angle, and is unknown about gorilla glass. -
-edit... this was intended as a reply to the comment above about Specs... my apologies.
I saw the Iconia in Curry's last Friday and although I could have sworn it's IPS display.
Not sure about the Gorrila glass though.
Check if the screen looks like negative when viewed from the bottom at a very high angle - if it is, then it's TN. Good TN is not bad though and if it looks like IPS it could be good even if it's not IPS.
Got an iconia tab a500 and returned it 2 days after....
The display, compared with ipad ips ( same ips of the asus eee pad), really sucks... Much less contrast, not so lightful , under the sun is terrible
Asus's panel is one step ahead than acer's one, my 2 cents...
I've bought the Acer Iconia A500. It's a cracking tablet, awesome looking screen which is on par with the iPad that I had and sold. The viewing angles are immense as well.
USB host works a treat, had no issues copying a pdf and some jpgs over.
I think people going on about IPS etc need to actually have a go on these tablets.

I'd a go on this tablet, but my opinion is quite different.... perfect tablet, except for display
Actually the market of tablets is changing quite a lot.... there are so many options that im actually lost....
in terms of battery life, and speed (browsing, multitasking, user experience...):
1) iPad2 vs honeycomb?
2) Which honeycomb tablet? Galaxy Tab? Motorola Xoom?
3) would you wait for the ipad2 prices drop in january due to the ipad3 release?
tablet
I personally have an HP Touchpad (and am anxiously awaiting the android port to be complete, or close enough) but my boyfriend has the Asus EEE Transformer Tablet and he loves it. Android Honeycomb is definitely smooth and user friendly. More customizable than the iPad2 (which he took back to the store on the 10th day).
Chris
Waiting for HP port to android too.
I like the transformer but alot of Apps aren't compatible with it.

I thought the TF had the best "docking thing like a notebook"
I'm using Galaxy S telephone but i want to buy IPAD2 that is the best of the tablet i think.
I would buy a nook color cause it's cheap.
Kindle Fire sounds like it can't be beat, thinking about pre-ordering that bad boy
Im afraid of the android slowness... i want something that simply works... not to worry for the battery usage in background and so on.... ipad looks something simplier and smooth
I was going crazy over the thinkpad tablet because of the pen capabilities but reviews haven't been good so far. Now I think I might just wait till the next round of tablets are released.

Aconia
It seems the 10.1 is what you're after
I find Aconia A500 or the A501 which I have is the way to go,
They all pretty much the same, the big the Aconia is they have the USB port as a extra and that's so useful.
with Ipad the big thing is some much software, you can get software to do anything. still look for one to scratch my ass but I bet its out there.
Yes I have a Ipad to, jailbreaking is the set back with Ipad
For out on the road the samsung galaxy P1000 is the go, special the GPS

battery and screen sucks...
Good afternoon all,
I'm in the market for a tablet (first tablet for me!) and while everyone and their mother around me has an Ipad, I just can't stomach iOS (Or Apple for that matter).
I've been checking out the hardware on these two tablets and they seem identical. I don't have any to compare them to, so I'd appreciate some input over which has better performance.
The main reason I want a tablet is because I hate reading on my laptop and while the kindle fire seems appealing, 7" screen is just too small imo. So basically I'll be using it for reading, watching videos and casual gaming.
That said, I'd appreciate any input on the matter!
Thanks!
TF101. I own an Acer A100 and TF101, and I can tell you that acer still doesn't respond to the many pleas to unlock the bootloader on the A100 (The A500 lucked out using earlier exploits later fixed), and the A200 is likely to follow this direction.
If you want a good dev community behind your device, asus is the way to go.

Do you know of any online retailers where I could find it cheap?
I don't have any local retailers near me and need to order it online.
I've tried tigerdirect, Amazon, bestbuy even has the 32gb model for $399.
Found a refurbirshed model for $289 on ebay, but I'd rather try to get a new one. =)
www.tigerdirect.com/applications/se...CODE=GOOGLEBASE&cm_mmc_o=VRqCjC7BBTkwCjCECjCE
Cheapest I found from respectable retailers.
The way I see it, if planning to modify the device (thus voiding the warranty) you only need to make sure it works.
Alternatively, you could look at another popular device like the Xoom:
google.com/products/catalog?q=xoom&nomo=1&client=ms-opera-mobile-android&um=1&hl=en&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=763&bih=1182&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=18377715572139848066&sa=X&ei=rl81T-GmJqSwiQKT8aWrCg&ved=0CIIBEMQVMAA#scoring=p
Get the TF101. Some really good prices now. There are so many custom ROMS out there it is nutz. I would suggest getting one from a store near you where you can exchange it easily. That way if you have lightbleed or any other issues you can return it.
Hold out and wait for asus to release the new tegra 3's T700 etc. Unless you want to take a chance on the prime. I had to mod mine and void the warranty to make it work. But, its the best android tablet in my house atm.

haha what do you mean by so many roms? there are about 5 stable good roms
more like 3 rom
anyway all acer tablet have locked bootloader.
you can do anything with them
get TF101
the best thing you can do is go out to a store and try each 1 out.
i started out wanted the galaxy tab but was concerned about price, went out tryed out each tablet with similar specs and ended up choosing the tf101. if modding is a big deal check out each tablets forum to see whats up
goodluck with ur decision
I had a similar choice when I was looking at tablets for the first time, although for me it was TF101 VS A100. The thing that swung it to Asus for me was the versitility of the keyboard addon which is so useful and it still turns heads when I undock it in public lol. The extra ports and battery power afforded by the keyboard is a real winner too. When you are on a train for example, the dock holds the screen just right for watching movies and charges it too so when you flip it over to read a book - you have a nice full battery.
The screen is also lovely on the TF101. Turn off auto brightness though ... that's a bit dim for my liking. The manual settings are great.
Asus has been responsive in updates, and the dev community is great. I have very much enjoyed the performance enhancement of the Revolver parts ROM.
I've been looking around for a car mount. Ebay has apparently only one type, like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Suction...ccessories&hash=item3a72a0136d#ht_2109wt_1139
But I'm looking for one that is a better fit for the tf700 and that I can "flipp" the tablet in and out of, without having to clamp it down each time I mount it.
Amzer® Universal Tablet Windshield Mount looks like a better fit. Anyone tried this one?
And is there any mounts that uses the original clamp that the dock uses to hold it in place? That would be the best solution.
Found it for you!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbW95iRJos8&feature=plcp
Yes as I linked to it I've already found that one. But nice with a video.
Yeah, I understood that you had found it already, but you asked if anyone had tried it, so I simply linked the video to show you how it actually worked.

Ever heard about a carputer? Google it. ;-)
As soon as I can find an infinity locally I'll be getting one (hoping this weekend if bestbuy comes through). I'll be making one out of Kydex and working up a proclip like attachment. I made a how-to thread and video, if your a DIYer and wanna give it a try it's cheap and pretty easy. The thread was left to die as there wasn't alot of interest in the Note forum on it. Finished product has since been cleaned up and smoothed out as compared to rought results in thread. Total cost for a Infinity size one would run you $15-$20 most likely.

Hey folks,
I currently have an Acer a500, and it's been beaten to hell. It still works, but the outer case is alllll messed up and one of the speakers is blown. I recently found out about the a700, and it looks like it would be a great tablet to graduate to, but is it worth it? Has anyone here had an a500 and now has the a700? And those that have the a700 that have or have not owned a tablet before, is it a really nice tablet? Specs are awesome, the tablet is really nice. What are your thoughts? I know one of the greatest things about the a500 is, it NEVER gets hot, even when clocked out @ 1504MHz.
Pros / Cons?
Thanks.
My wife has had an a500 for about 18 months. I just got an a700 for Christmas. I kind of wish I got the a510 which is the same as the a700 except for it does not have the high resolution screen. It has the same res as the a500 which imo is plenty good. The high res causes some compatibility issues. Other than that, I am enjoying my new tab.

The higher dpi of the A700 is the only reason I bought a Acer A700. I wanted an Asus TF700 but the prices here :silly:
I'm very happy with the A700. For the price this is a good device, except a few lags and some not very reactive apps. I'm waiting for a really, really good CR.
Hi i own a acer 500 rooted 1544mz. I have been testing the aacer a700 and the asus tf700 side by side for about 30 days. I like both units and they both have their advantages however the only advantage over my a500 is the display and slightly longer battery life.
I picked up the acer a700 for $329 and found for my use it seems to work well(photo portfolio)
The asus tf700 was a little more at $429. My photos look great on it and the display is very bright in the sunlight. Plus it is liter than both of the other tablets.
I still have not decided on which one to keep and my 30 day return time is running out and i still don't have a clear cut reason to upgrade from my very smooth and fast a500!!! Any thoughts??

Hi, well I don't know about the TF700 but I can tell you for sure the reasons why the A700 (I own an A701, version with 3G) is better than the A500...
- Location features are better, A700-A701 has A-GPS and, most importantly, GLONASS, a Russian system than can improve accuracy and fix speed by a lot... TF700 doesn't have it (and has more GPS problems anyway, I read). My A701 gets a fix almost instantaneously (some 10-15 sec.) WITHOUT a data connection.
- Battery has three times the A500 capacity, I can't say how longer will it last than the A500, my A701 is good for 7-8 hours of navigation on Wifi. I take it it is about as much as the TF700.
- Most importantly, if you use the tablet for showing photos, then it's a no-brainer... the A700-A701 has a screen with 16M colors, whereas the A500 has 265K. TF700 is on par with A700 on this regard.
Cheers.
