Guys I am planning to buy a new phone. I want your suggestions about choosing the right one. I am relying on good battery life and phone which has a good amount of development going on (custom roms, kernels, miui, cyanogenmod, ics etc.) coz I love to fiddle with devices a lot. My current choices are :
Samsung galaxy R
Samsung galaxy S plus
HTC Desire S
HTC Incredible S
These are my options but senior members can suggest me phone in range of 23000 INR ($475).
Thanks in advance guys

Isn't Galaxy Nexus coming to India soon? It definitely has those things (though battery life preferred with custom kernel) and is probably of choice (until the new quadcores come out in a few months anyway) for tinkering. But I'm not sure you can get it for $475, unless they offer it more cheaply there. I got mine for $550ish, and that's considered cheap here.

Yup. But $550 is costly for me. Already pushing my limits for my said price range

Umm.. If you look for design and Sense UI, go for HTC. But if you want a performance device then I would suggest Samsung R or S Plus.
Thought for 23k you can even get Optimus 2x or Optimus 3D.
But if your just gonna stick with Samsung and HTC. I would suggest Samsung for the performance. No wonder HTC's Sense UI is far better than any other device out there but its just your decision whether wanna go with Design and Looks or Performance and Built Quality!
have a look at the new Htc series One,
HTC One X, HTC One S and HTC One V
DEFINITELY GALAXY S III!!

2 years ago, I prefer 3.7" phones to 4.3" phones. But now, 3.7" and 4.3" seem too small for me. Just try it first and you'll like it and even want a bigger one. Anyway, the 4.8" screen was rumoured to have a 16:9 aspect ratio.

I see. For that price, you might consider the HTC Sensation. I think the HTC Rezound occasionally gets that low (say with special promotions), but I can't find any at this moment.
I'm not familiar with any of the "cheaper" manufacturers (Huawei or the like) but it might be something to look into.
If your not in a hurry to get a phone. I would suggest you too wait for like till April or May. There are like 20+ phones getting launched by then.
HTC's One series are gonna be available globally by April. Even LG, Samsung, Sony has launched some new phones and they all comes with ICS 4.
So you may wait for sometime and I bet its worth waiting for.

That's actually a good point. Old phones usually take a price dip when their successor comes out. The HTC Rezound is sure to take one when the One X comes out, for instance, similarly for the Samsung Galaxy S2 when the S3 comes out.
So if you can wait, I'm going to speculate that those phones might dip down into your (OP's) price range. (But you should allow for a margin of error ).
If I were you, I would check the forum on what phone has the most development ... That way, you can have a lot of Rom choices hehehe

I'd like to know why too.
I've got my HTC desire for ~two years and never had any problems. + there are a lot of roms for the device.
Among your choices I'd go for the HTC Desire S.
Hi boys, and girls
As my 2 year contract on my carrier, is getting to the finish line, i want to get something new. (I will keep my small litle muscle phone O1 as a second phone )
At the first i wanted the galaxy nexus, because of the great software support, and the developement, in our xda forum.
Then suddenly i saw the new Optimus 4x, but, there is one but. There is no developement in here, because of locked bootloader
I really don`t know what to take. Thought about the Xperia S, but nope.
The phones what i need to choose from , are - 1. Galaxy nexus
2. Optimus 4x
Maybe Acro S ?
Maybe some other suggestions?
Maybe the new LG Nexus? It'll be $399 on Google Store unsubsidized according to rumors.

Yeah, but it will not be available in my country for a while.
seeing how often google release OS.
I will stick to nexus device for fastest OS update
I love my Google experience device motorola xoom running AOSP jelly bean
Yeah. I think I'd go for the new nexus phone. Just wait for a lil while
I think getting a new LG phone is a waste, Anything other than a galaxy nexus is.
The new android OS? Availably from day 1.
Every app is tested on that first, which means closer to no bugs.
I think that i will take Galaxy Nexus. Just because of software support, developement. The performance is also o.k No need for 4 cores.

Yes, i know, but it is the only device, with the best price/performance on my carrier. I will take it on a contract.
As i said, maybe something from xperia line - The acro s?
Galaxy s3??? Htc one x???
Coz i like quad core!

Ahh. Bought Galaxy nexus today. No need for a quad core phone, becouse there is not where to put in all potential. Its enough with a dualcore.

Smart choice, and yes Android doesn't make use of multi core efficiently as yet.

Nexus of you want it right now. I say wait till the holiday is over. I bet you a slick new device will come out by then. A new nexus and HTC has already announced the HTC one x+ and also a 5 inch device. You sir must wait.

Was just on chat with support. Contiually lying to me that both versions s4 and s3 jb were released at the same time and I shouldn't rely on third party websites like xa for news hmmmmm
I hate HTC. My next phone will be a Nexus device. But that's my own rant. I still love the One S!
AW: HTC lying again
No wonder why htc is going down!

Kinda like HTC president commenting that it was poor marketing campaigns that made for lower sales than other brands.
I really like the build quality on my HTC devices. But some things could be improved on other ends.
+1. Build quality is great, much better than sh*tty Samsung devices with plastic all over it. The software side, support, and updates are what is lacking at a disgusting level.

Nope, Jelly Bean update for One S C2 is still in developement process (God Knows, when it will be live?)
I recently checked a thread on HTC UK's Facebook page they have specifically mentioned that Jelly Bean update for HTC One S C2 is in developement/testing phase

So there probably is an issue with it eg performance or it wouldn't be this long. Most likely the fact they used an older slower processor. They should replace every s3.

When I buy a device, I honestly dont give a rats ass about what the manufacture says. I check the XDA section for said device and see how the custom rom/root/unlock support is , and google a bit for build quality etc.
The only thing that we have to rely on the manufacture for, is the kernel source for said device/version. GIEF THE SOURCE ALREADY!
But theres always AOSP options...
Half the point, for me at least, with an android device is that you are NOT LOCKED to whatever the manufacture puts in it - you are free to change it!
Hi my brother wants a new phone he has 350. What ia the best Android phone unlocked for that price?

Try asking for sony prices I think they have mid-range phones that has a good price and a good build quality
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk 2
try some china manufactured phones
Chinese phones can be great for what they are if you find a reliable seller, but I wouldn't really recommend them due to lack of development support and often a lack or warranty and help if anything goes wrong. I think they're better suited for people who already have a phone and want an extra to play around with.
Hi I check prices on amazon and the HTC one and the galaxy mini are those good options algo for 300 the nexus 4 is a very good option :screwy:

Lmao galaxy mini? You're joking right? The HTC One is pretty much the best phone on the market right now (not even close to mid range) and the Nexus 4 is easily the best phone in that price bracket.

To be honest I haven't try a Samsung device yet
But after my experience with my htc sensation I think it is a bad idea to have a htc device :banghead:
Or isn't it?

I would say go for the nexus 4. You always have the latest android and this for a long long time, for the price you get some good piece of phone (hardware wise). One of my friends also has one and hes really happy with it, he never had any problems.
Agree you will never gou wrong with any nexus product ant nexus is the first device that gets all latest rom updates.

Depends on what kind of phone he wants.
I wanted a galaxy note a year back and bid one from ebay at 350!

The galaxy mini is a budget phone and performs awfully. The HTC One is above the price range but has received ridiculously good reviews across tonnes of tech sites, including my personal favourite pocketnow.com (where it got the highest score they have ever given a device). In the price range the N4 is the best device available IMO.
Nexus 4, gets the latest software updates and its cheap. Performs well and functions like it should with a big development support.

@LlabTooFeR, who has been a pretty good source for HTC info in the past, reckons the update for the Mini won't be coming until "late December":
https://twitter.com/LlabTooFeR/status/405241922975191040
Perhaps if HTC stopped wasting time making pointless football apps and endlessly tweeting about match results we might actually have it sooner ... or at least give us an ETA instead of ducking questions about it
Come on HTC, don't neglect this little gem just months after release.
We need kit kat too, but nobody khows about the update...

I don't think the 4.4 is out on the HTC One yet and you're expecting a Kit Kat for the Mini? There is a cm11 right now but it's still being work on. You should check it out.

I got the phone three days ago , and I'm in love with it. Unfortunately , the community is waaay more smaller than on my ex android devices ( Galaxy S3 LTE, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7).
It will be too bad if HTC will leave this little gem without support and updates.
Even here, on Xda the Community for Mini is not even half comparing to other my ex devices. I hope it will grow .
