You knew this question was going to come. Now that 4.1 has been announced, when are we getting ours?
This will take a longer time for sure, as HTC is still busy to release ICS
Jellybean dev kits are supposed to be released mid july. At least that's what this source says: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/06/27/google-announces-android-41-jelly-bean/
But it may be a while before we get a working ROM.
Given the time it took the CM team to release CM9 RC1, I'd say 6 months!

While ICS is quite nice, it is hard not to want the latest, greatest thing on our devices Still, at least the Nexus 7 is available to fulfil the JB goodness until it's available. That may end up replacing my Nook Color which hasn't been used in a month since it's ac adapter gave up the ghost.
HTC says they "don't yet have an announcement" for Jelly Bean on existing devices.
... I can't post a link because <10 posts, but there is an article on pocket-lint.com
That will only lead to an anemic SDK ROM. sure it will show us the cool new features, but I wouldn't expect much. I wonder how long it takes to hit AOSP

Q1 or Q2 next year would be my guess

Since i'm assuming jellybean isn't as big of a change internally as ICS was from gingerbread it'll be a shorter wait. Still I wouldn't expect anything shorter than like Oct of this year.

Actually most of the changes are internal. I think project butter is a big internal change. Although the One S is already very smooth, squeezing more performance out of the S4 is a welcomed thing

Google doesn't care
I remember reading recently that Google knows about fragmentation but isn't worried about it. Now that I'm tempted to buy a media device to have the latest and greatest software, I can see how fragmentation can actually work for Google because now more and more people will look to buy nexus devices.
the main reason i got a HTC phone is because unlike Samsung's strange choice in hardware it dosnt take 5 months to port a fast stable release from the MOD team unlike HTC
lets hope this takes off !
the one X got already a port

Yeah... that's true.
It's sad because we the owners that use the s3 version of the htc one s didn't get android 4.0.4 and sense 4.1 and others will be getting jb this month!
Another F.U. post for HTC !
Yea, but if you read at the bottom, tmo one s won't get it with the rest, it's bad enough having to wait on manufacturers to work the new version into their skin that they just haaave to have, but we also have to wait on the carrier to approve and add their extra layer of crap. I really wish they would all just give us the option to run vanilla android if we wanted without rooting. It does me up the wall. Ok I'm done ranting now.

Yanno with how tmo is constantly trying to improve everything. Common sense would b to get these updates out quickly. To build confidence with there customers.

You do have a choice.... its called get a Nexus!!! HTC/Samsung/Motorola/etc, always have, and always will add a skin to their phones. It's one of the reasons I bought my One S... For Sense!!!!! I never understood why people complain and ask companies to remove the one feature they add that is PURPOSELY added to help differentiate their phones from all the rest.
I prefer vanilla over sense. I bought the One S because of the excellent hardware, not because of sense. Still I would say that sense is better than vanilla for beginners. Some reasons:
1. Labels under every button so its behavior is clear. In some Google apps, for example Gmail, there are lots of buttons without labels and its not always clear what they do. Yes, I know I can long press to get description, but not everyone does.
2. More functionality included without third party apps. Why hasn't Google included something as basic as stopwatch in their clock app?
Theres probably more, but this is what I could think of now

AW: HTC Sense 5.0 rumours?
I'm quite certain as soon as the sense 5 build leaks our devs here will do a port. But I think that our One S won't get official sense 5 by HTC. Maybe one with less features...
based on how long it took htc/tmobile to release jelly bean. I doubt we will ever see sense 5.0. the best we can bet is having a developer to release it.

I'm almost sure HTC will release this for the One series devices. Soo many people use the X, XL, S, and V and are locked into contracts.
I also see no reason why they would not roll out an update. Our device is perfectly spec'ed still (even though Sense is a complete resource hog and drain) and we have plenty of room on NAND to support it. We just will have to wait about 7.6 years for HTC's slow arse (screw t-mo) to finally release it...

HTC can easily said that since the phone only has 1gb of ram, it will not get it or have a slim down Sense like what they did with the older phones before One. It would be a huge mistake in my opinion either way. HTC really needs to step up and support the One series more. I feel that it gives current owner a reason to continue to purchase and recommend their products. While I realize some of the camera features may not work on the current device due to potentially lack of the needed hardware, it would still be nice if HTC will try to bring a much of the new features to older phones to finally hae a unified One series.

Because HTC officially confirmed only for the international quad core version of the phone. Also, I have no clue who the person tweeting it is, hence why I put the question mark in the title. But it seems legit...
The "guy" is Football. It is spelled backwards since some issues in December.
A well respected source of info.
He leaked about 90% of the RUU's we have for our devices before he stopped doing that in December 2012.
He gives highly accurate info regarding the state of devices and their updates.
I believe he is a HTC employee with at least access to RUU's for both internal and public builds.

If you're rooted it doesn't really matter when AT&T releases it, just when the first carrier does or when it gets leaked. Still, I wouldn't expect it for a bit, probably not until the summer at the earliest. Unless HTC really is being truthful about updating their phones in a timely manner.

agreed, i'm so-so on sense 5, but would much rather have 4.2.2 if given the choice between one of the two software developments. 5 seems like it could bring about a new set of issues that sense has already worked out in the 4.x versions, but 4.2.2 stands to improve a lot of the little issues that 4.1.x is experiencing.

Are we referring to one xl or one x? (Or is it the same?) I think it is strange to update the one x straight from sense 4 to sense 5 (skipping sense 4+). Both the One X and One XL have been updated to Sense 4+ officially, so not sure what you mean by "skipping Sense 4+". The only big thing is that they would be skipping 4.1.2 in favor of 4.2.2, which would make sense IMO
I know that from the Twitter a famous HTC developer said One S(S4) has high chance to get 4.2.2 sense 5 later but a new war just started.
http://technosamigos.com/htc-android-4-3-jelly-bean-update-schedule/
Here is a list for HTC 4.3 updates but no One S it clearly said that no Ville(S4) but I'm surprised HTC Valente(HTC J) z321e is on the list.
HTC J got exactly the same hardware(S4 1.5G dual, 1G, 16GB, 8M BSI imagechip, QHD Super AMOLED) with One S(S4) but with microSD, basic water resistance and 1800mah exchangeable battery supported(so it's more fat and heavy, not as cool as One S). It's only on sales in Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong regional.
I call BS on that list, it shows the Desire HD as a "yes" for 4.3, lol!

Proper Kernel, Bluetooth, properly sized apps, more working features, etc, etc, etc...
But yes, pushing for 4.3 at this point is just plain ridiculous and may actually discourage them from giving us 4.2.
