You'll need a custom recovery to install a ROM. Follow these instructions and you'll be good to go:
Harbb said:
Delete or rename /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and flash CWM one last time. It'll stick. Each boot, stock ROMs reflash the stock recovery unless you delete/rename that file.

do i have to Clockwordmod flash it first then root the phone?
Yea, first flash clockworkmod with nvflash and then flash the root zip file from jboxer's thread. Reboot and your stock rom will be rooted.
then i should be able to flash any rom correct

Exactly correct. No need to root first. That zip is for those who want to keep their stock rom and just root it.
If you want to flash another rom, then no need to root first. Just nvflash cwm and flash roms to your heart's content.
so i dont even have to root the phone to flash the rom? i can just nvflash and then flash the rom?

Yes and Yes. If you flash a rooted rom then it will be rooted. CWM runs a mini OS, not the full OS, so rooting is not an issue when you are in CWM. Clockworkmod always runs fully rooted.

You are on stock recovery if you get the !
You probably mistakenly flash the stock recovery before you flash the repacked ROM.
Easiest thing to do now is install CWM recovery again.
Download a stock firmware from Asus website and flash it with CWM recovery.
That will put you at stock firmware, unrooted and stock recovery.

What CWM version are you using? If its the lastest from Roach, it only flashes from the internal memory, not from sd card.

You will not have to flash a new recovery after flashing the new firmware Mac... but I do think that when you go the flash a new custom rom from here I would wipe the phone (ie) super wipe or use the builtin one in 4ext under (wipe and format) use wipe everything but SDcard.....
Thank you for the help and patience. Much abliged.

no problem, just one thing, if you have super wipe only use it with sense roms not AOSP roms, and if you are using any of the new sense 4 roms like OrDroid or Insertcoin that is builtin the rom when you install too, just read everything very carefully because of the installer (ie) Aroma installler.....

Rooting phone from CWM 5.0.2.7

I flashed CWM 5.0.2.7 via Odin, but I have not rooted it before. How can I root it now? To extract zip file and copy files to corresponding ones? I want to flash ROM. Please help me.:crying:
Flash any custom ROM through CWM. It doesn't require root :good:

Stuck at boot loop with costum rom after wiping/formating all data with no backup...

I have a galaxy s9+, and i wanted to get the best android experience by flashing a costume rom (TWRP) and rooting, i did it successfully with no issues, and working very well, downloaded some root apps and they worked fine one of the apps required me reboot my device to apply changes, once then...my phone stuck at a boot loop, i booted up to TWRP, did a factory reset, then format all data, still didn't work, i tried to repair/change system partitions and this time when tried to reboot TWRP shows a message: "os not installed" and now I'm still stuck the only thing I have now is TWRP...
I know how screwed up I am but I need a solution for this, it's my only phone i have ...
Reflash Stock ROM.
Ok I will try it then I will be able to install costum rom again ?
If you find a suitable Custom Recovery ( like TWRP ) and additionally a matching Custom ROM then the answer is YES.

The Actual rom I'm using TWRP it's the only thing I have now...
TWRP is a Custom Recovery, NOT a Custom ROM. Don't confuse things.
Just wipe everything from your phone and install custom ROM from TWRP.

TWRP recovery the custom recovery which you use the flash custom ROM.
Before you flash your ROM, you have stock Android and that means stock ROM.
Custom Android is the same as custom ROM. Stock Android is the same as stock ROM.
Magisk is a method you use to root your phone. It doesn't have to do anything with TWRP or recovery.
You have Magisk zip which you flash in TWRP recovery and your phone will become rooted.

I have S9+.
I suggest you download Alexis ROM and just flash it. It's literally like stock ROM but it's custom.
Download it somewhere on your USB and then move it to your SD card so you can flash it. You can install it from the USB as well. You need an adapter for that.

It's literally like the stock ROM. I'm using Noble but the developer is the same. Noble is Android 11.
