Drives me nuts that when I dial a number without the area code it will not pull the name from my contact list. I've never had this problem with any other phone. Is there any way to get my contacts to show when dialing the number without the area code?

No way. One phone number per contact? I can't afford to clutter up my contact list like that. My Android device syncs up to Google just fine, thanks.
My wife started getting these weird text messages from an over seas number. No idea what it is but she replied one time to get rid of it. We ended up getting charged more than than normal and was told the only way to stop was to change phone nimbers. She now started to get them now. Whats weird is now out of the blue I stared to get them on my phone. Any ideas?
That's annoying. I get blank texts messages from this one number, and it started about 1.5-2 years ago. It happens randomly, and I even called the number back at one point explaining to the middle-aged lady that she was sending me blank texts. She was surprised and said she had no idea that it was happening. I have screenshots to prove it, *****.
Luckily, I don't get charged for her blank texts.
Maybe an app u have is pushing them try downliading air push finder and see what comes up

My wife is stock and I just put eclipse on. I have not installed any new apps that I did not have before. I woke up and there were 5 messages from a number.

doesn't Verizon let you block numbers if you go into a store and ask?

Last time we were there they were not very help full and said I had to change my number which I did. Now my wife is getting these and she cant change her number as she uses it for work. Guess I will call verizon again and complain or talk to a person with more knowledge. Hmm since Im not stock will they ask for information from the phone? Dont want to change back and re load if I dont have too.
Just called and they said they cant block and dont see anything but as long as we dont reply we wont get charged. Its just annoying. Weird though how she showed them to me yesterday and overnight I started getting them.
I am now finding some information on a verizon website and will try and see if it works.
Well neither of those options worked. Guess Im just stuck getting them and deleting them.
Why not just download a root text/call blocker? i have the same problem and this works just fine. I'd get some stupid message from a weird number saying "Want quick cash now! Reply "CASH" for quick cash now! If you would like to stop these text messages, respond "STOP"!"
Just dont type anything to these numbers and get an SMS blocker

Must be doing it wrong or in the wrong place , the number that I keep getting is more than 10 numbers so it goes something like this
118012222357:OZMAIL
and then some other stuff.

Did you mention the Ozmail thing to Verizon? You're probably getting a message notification if I'm not mistaken. Verizon should be able to turn this off, just make sure you mention the Ozmail thing.
More info here: https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/668513/
Ozmail is the stock email app. Text 'stop' and it will stop. Every time an email comes in it is trying to go through the now nonexistent email app since you have an aosp email ask with your Rom flash.

Thanks for the replies , will check it out.
You can block numbers on Verizon's website but the block only lasts for 3 months which is pretty useless for this kind of thing.
I use Mr. Number from the market. So far so good. Blocks calls and texts. On the calls I have it set to pick up and hang up so they never get to my Voicemail. I think you can set a custom reply for texts as well.
The blocked numbers and texts never show up on my call log or text folder

Those work but in my case the number was too long and not really a
phone number. When I replied to the text it stopped.
I have the similar situation, but I am getting a wired phone call is from unknown caller ID. When I pick up ,there is always someone mumbling,, when you stop saying he stops. But the carrier can do nothing with it, unless i have to change the number.

Hello fellow XDA users.
I found a galaxy s 4g today, and I was wondering a few questions.
First off; I can't seem to get into the bootloader. When i hold Top + power it just keeps rebooting the device. Same thing with Bottom + power.
Also: Is there a way to super CID the device? Thank you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_4G is a good place to start.
(I'm not sure what "super CID" is though.)

Super Cid is basically unlocking it so you can use with other carriers.
There is an unlocker thread here somewhere as well, if that is not covered in the wiki. Basically, the SGS4G these days is
Flash a one-click Heimdall installer for root/recovery
Flash a ROM of your choice

Dont you think it would be a better idea to turn it in and make somebodies day by returning their phone? I do too, glad you agree.

i asked around if anyone lost a phone and no one said anything, and i know the school just uses it for their own good if they find it so no point.
I'd bet that the call log will reveal one or more contacts that will recognize the number if you call them.
The carrier also should be able to contact the owner if you give the phone number. Just dial 611 from the phone.

I can't get into the phone though, it's got a lock on it, I have no idea what the number is, and the emergency call won't call my number.

Does it show the carrier? Give them the IMEI; its under the battery.
T-Mobile would be a good place to start even if it doesn't. 1-800-T-MOBILE

You can place the sim in another phone and see the number as well

I am having a problem receiving texts from only 2 of my contacts. This has persisted thru 2 devices and custom and stock roms, so thinking its a network problem. However, in calling AT&T, they (of course) could find no visual reason for this. It started on my skyrocket with slimbean build 6, but has persisted thru updating builds on that, then I got a new s3 and of course brand new sim and am running stock based deTmobilized on that. One contact is AT&T also, while the other is T-Mobile. AT&T gave me a line about my Gmail account, and if I could troubleshoot by putting my sim in a non android phone to test. I don't have access to any non android phone (why would I want to? Lol) Can anyone try to help me figure this out? wouldn't be a big deal but since one contact is having my grandbaby, I really need to be able to stay in contact with her since I live 800 miles from her. Tia for any help, suggestions, anything.
Hmm lets see
Try changing sim(of another company)
Make sure u dont have blocked them and back up in sd card
See if that two people get message like sending failed may be problem in their mobile

Just found out one contact had my number wrong. The other is an iPhone and from what I've read, they are notorious for doing things like that. The iPhone got a message kicked back saying something about undeliverable. Thank you for your suggestions.

Yes I was too. But because the iPhone is my aunt, and I rarely txt her, I'm not as concerned anymore. The one who had my number wrong was my sons dork gf. Told her that was a total blond move. She had my area code and her area code added to my number. And she's gonna be my grandchilds mother. Yikes.

It might just be an encrypted message sent to the wrong number.
Not even sure. It looks like it has some patterns, but it also looks like it is somewhat random. I mean decrypting this is most likely impossible, and by most likely I mean certainly. I am intrigued, unfortunately, no way of satisfying the curiosity.
yeah.. it has repetitive fragments and looks like encrypted text. but I still don't have clue what is it
We have no cipher key, no clue what kind of encryption that is and what could be the context for it. So we are probably never going to find that out.... Unfortunately.

Hey man im from Alaska that's INSANE because if im not mistaken I've gotten alot of texts like that and learned not to open them because they usually (once opened) executed what id assume is your code given here, it may not run on newer android versions, ive had that number send me texts that return a '0' and proceed to delete themselves on 4.4 and lower.

Interesting! I guess it's an "OMA" msg (silent msg) which could be "legit" (if you think it's ok your carrier can potentially mod your phone without you knowing) from your carrier but could also be malicious. Are you also on Rogers, maybe they use OMA msg to set your phone for their network? I didn't expect them to look like encryption though, thought it would be higher level type code...
Would be interested to hear from someone who knows about this sort of stuff.

Nope I was on GCI up there and they absolutely do use those messages (from the tower bouncing) from my understanding GCI was the only company to set up towers in Alaska. AT&T and Verizon both bounce off of them . Very odd and ive never heard of a R customer receiving one (especially from an Alaska area code)
I forgot to add, I wouldn't doubt if you're in the Yukon or western areas of Canada you're indeed bouncing off GCI as well. To be honest I came across this thread by accident & totally got sucked in by seeing the area code haha. They have a lot of tech up there no telling what that is all about, weird as hell though.
